But they'll always remember the tree they launched from, and when they smell that river smell--wherever they are--part of them will be home. Cheap wine, Good labels, and a Story For the record, I HATE wine. I prefer white to red, but they both reek taste-wise. I don't care how much $$ you spend or how snooty you feel because you spent so much on rotten grape juice, wine is gross to me. That being said, whenever my friend buys some cheap wine and I happen to be there, I drink a glass and ask for the bottle. The Pinot Evil is for when you feel like "monkeying around", according to the bottle. From the back of the Mad Housewife: "Somewhere near the cool shadows of the laundry room. Past the litter box and between the plastic yard toys. This is your time. A moment without the madness. The dishes can wait. Dinner be damned." FYI, the Pinot was slightly less gross than the Sauvignon, which had a smoky flavor that gagged me. :OD (Explanation: when I was about 6 years old, in the dead of Winter, the power went out. My dad had to go to work, but to keep my mom and I from freezing, he decided to bring in the charcoal bbq and light it up. IN the house. I don't know if we had not established that fumes can kill you in 1966 or we were just a family of idiots, (or perhaps it was a failed attempt by my dad to kill us) but needless to say, my mom and I got terribly sick for about three days from that. Since then, the smell or taste of smoky bbq or even the flavor of smoke in food or beverages makes me wretchingly ill. Hence I hate Burger King. Except for those cheesy tots, MMmmmm.) Cheap a55 sofubi I'm not a big vinyl collector, but had to nab this guy when I saw him packed into a robot toy gift set at a 7-11 back in about 1993. Came with a soft dart gun and a robot mask styled like those cool Japanese children's festival masks, but not nearly as 'nice'. He's about 5 inches tall, and only has one joint at its waist which barely holds the thing together. "gun", brush & ink, September 1991, Natchitoches, LA this was a drawing i remember vividly doing- i was listening to the pixies "Little Eiffel" on Track repeat for hours, in my dorm room in Natchitoches Louisiana, i think we were abou to have a holiday break and a lot of people had left or it was a friday night and people kept trying to get me to go out dancing. so the room and dorms were strangely empty, but i was completely content, in fact totally entranced, and had entered this ecstatic, totally engaged state while fooling around drawing my favorite toy gun (i had a lot of effluvia strictly for altars, costumes, aesthetics, accessories, and pure sensual eyeballery) and my smiley face garter snap the sweet and talented writer and career gothist Madelyn Boudreaux (now rollerderby mc!) actually saved this (it was once a submission for the "Argus" Student Art and Literary Review- that eventually supposedly got me kicked out of college in absentia for violating some obscenity law (decided by an eldritch cabal consisting of 2 priests and some staff member) in absentia- even though i wasn't the editor of the specific category (i always tried to be editor in something i wasn't submitting in- think i was non-fiction sometimes). yep, me and Grant Wood were proud to say we received letters forbidding us to return to school without a police escort- i had already left (due to extremely frightening and depressing on-campus harrassment (bottles, threatened rapes, phone calls saying i was a dyke and would be killed). there went my small town we can all get along hey were all people here idealism but i dont regret it- i had amazing professors and fellow students in Scholars College and was pretty much given the keys to the art dept (graduate level studio independent projects as entering freshman) and dabbled thrillingly (again) in theater..... I miss the Yesterday's crowd and the heady intellectual discourse and community. Natchitoches for a short while was the center of the world for me. 39/365: the dress maker I went to the toy museum with Pelin today. It was unexpectedly interesting :) Especially the toy shops like the butcher shop, wedding designer shop, tailor, bakery etc. I am planning to make a set for my 365 of these shops. As you can see, the toy shop I am in(!) is made in the 1900's-Germany. The details were amazing. Nail size boxes, finger size knit cardigan, wall papers, furniture... random fact: Recently I've started studying German and all I can remember is "ich weisse nicht" which means "I don't know" :) although I have studied it for 2 years in the past. The Girlfriend It's really just a stuffed dog toy. But, we refer to it as Wolfgang's girlfriend. He takes her everywhere. "Hey, Wolfgang, do you want to go outside?" He runs to get his girlfriend. He's even learned the word, "girlfriend," in relation to this toy. More and more, we're wondering if Wolfgang recognizes the "head" of the doll as a face. When he stands on his favorite chair to look out the window, he props his girlfriend against the soft arm, so that the head is up. More recently, we've watched him at his food bowl. His girlfriend has to be with him. He often places her on top of the bowl, touching the food. Very frequently, it's her head that's in his dachshund dinner. Can a dog be smart enough to recognize a face when it's on a toy? Kilts Mummy made us kilts because we are in Scotland and lots of people here wear them. They are made in tartan and this one is a Stooart I think but I like it because it is red. Mummy said that we could wear them with our fancy shirts from our pirate outfits because they are smart white shirts and that is dressy kilt outfit. I think they look smart. Cheap, cheap, cheap I was walking through our local toy store and holding another Neo-Viper wich I wanted to buy to armybuild a few off these guys. The shop manager walked up to me and said: 'You're the guy who's buying up all these things aren't you? Tell you what, you can have everything for 8 euro's, so I'll be rid off the stuff. At first I said; 'well I'd be stuck with a lot off doubles, so thanks for the offer but no thanks'. But then I thought maybe some off you guys may like some off these, or maybe I can use them for customs. So I bought them, and I got the wristband thingie as a bonus :P busouSanta01 There is the MMS Type Santa Claus figure from the Busou Shinki series. As this figure does not include the MMS body, I used one mms body from the Sky Girl series. The Sky Girl body (although it is a mms body) it is not 100% compatible with the Busou series, I have to do some modifications; removing the chest and back pack (they are glue in the figure) and cutting a border in the back (where the sky girl's tail is attached). The pieces are very small when broken down, to decrease the necessary storage that a typical pre-built playhouse requires. Overall, Bildy fort building supplies allow for children to decide how far they want to go. There is no prescribed combination, and the children can customize, leave out, add more, find their own building supplies, and build something as big, or small, in any shape and size they can imagine! Fort Lawton was established in 1900 on the Magnolia Bluff to serve as a fortification intended to defend the South Puget Sound from potential naval attack. Much of the park was sold as surplus to the City of Seattle in 1972 and turned into Discovery Park, the cities largest park. Many of the original buildings still stand, including the Fort Lawton Post Chapel, built in 1942. My father used to bring my brother and I to the park in the fall every year to run a muck, but since then I have neglected to really explore the 534 acre park. Something I plan on remedying this spring, as photography opportunities abound in this gem of a city park. Wolverine for Project Rooftop My redesign of Wolverine for Project Rooftop. This was fun, I enjoyed tackling a design that wasn't intended to be loaded with symbolism or backstory. Basically, for this, I figured that there are two sorts of Wolverine: You've got your high-octane adventurer and you've got your brooding loner. The basic outfit is a superheroic goulash, lots of those absurd tiger stripes which Wolverine periodically gets on his costume, neverminding the fact that wolverines have nothing of the sort (nor are they yellow and blue, but I digress). There's plenty of X-symbols, those great shoulder armor things he's had since he debuted, and then I added a rakish off-the-hip belt and something relatively like chaps, for the adventuring feel. I also eschewed the mask and opened up the arms so that he's got a more loose, wild attitude. Plus, I got to draw that hair. There's a hood and a small cape on the back, which can be unzipped, unfolded and worn in the gray version to the upper right. This is handy for looking depressed in the rain, which I think is something like forty percent of all Wolverine stories. So, ta-daa, my Wolverine for Project Rooftop's current contest. I don't get to participate as a contestant, but it's always fun to join in anyway.
