Bathroom - ceiling, walls, woodwork

Large bathrooms with good ventilation do not necessarily need water resistant paints - such as silks and eggshells. In this case Dulux Trade vinyl matt on ceiling and walls gave a hard-wearing matt finish and Dulux Trade Satinwood gave a soft, durable finish on all the woodwork including window, door and skirting.

I painted the walls, and got us and all of our kids and grandchild to draw around their hand. Then I made stencils and put all of our hands onto the wall. As soon as Abigail is big enough to draw around her hand I'll add her too :)

ROMANTIC GUEST HOUSE IN THE HEART OF MARRAKECH

“This is one of the best riads in Marrakech”
We have just returned from a 4 day stay at Riad Bab Marrakech, we had a fantastic time and highly recommend this riad to everybody.

The location of the riad is around a 5 minute walk away from the main Jemma el Fna square, I would say the location is perfect, you are in the middle of the medina, living around the locals and taking in all of the culture that Marrakech has to offer. On the other hand you are only a 5 minute walk away from the main sqaure. Transport can get to within 30 yards of the riad, so if you don't want to walk far, then you don't have to.

The decoration at the riad is all very tasteful, it really feels like you are in the middle of another culture. All of the fixtures/fittings at the riad looked brand new and everything was working as it should be.

The riad has 4 rooms, 2 on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor (all of the rooms were en-suite). It has a large terrace, where there are lots of seats, both formal for dining and sofas for relaxing. There is also a lovely "Chill Out" room on the terrace, which is a lovely idea, if you just want to relax and listen to your own music. There is also a futher level, where there are sun loungers for you to relax on, this was one of the best features of this riad, as you could relax on the loungers in the night, looking up at the hundreds of stars, drinking freshly squeezed orange juice.

There were 3 of us visiting Marrakech so we had a double room and a twin room. Both of the rooms were a nice size and had there own large bathrooms. There was individually controlled air-con fitted in each of the rooms as well as a fitted wardrobes. There is free WIFI available throughout the riad, the WIFI was working and was very fast.

The food at this riad was so nice. The breakfast was cooked freshly everyday for us and consisted of omelettes, breads, pastries, waffles, honey, jam, fresh orange juice, tea/coffee. We ate at the riad on our last evening in Marrakech, the kefta tagine was excellent, as was all of the side orders that came with it. We were just gutted we did not eat at the riad before as we could have had a few more meals there.

The staff at the riad were so friendly, if you asked them to do something (at anytime, day or night) they just smile at you and do what you have asked, excellent service, just as you would expect in a high class riad. The owner Oliver, is a great guy, he is a long time tripadvisor member and really knows how to look after his clients. He will be happy to arrange airport transfers, daytrips or whatever else you need, he is a genuine person and we fully trust him.

The riad also serves complimentry soft drinks all day/night. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and tastes just as good as the one you get at the square, you can have tea/coffee or mint tea whenever you desire.

All in all, this has to be one of the best riads in Marrakech, it has only recently opened and I am sure in time will be the best riad in its class. If you get a chance to stay here then go for it, we will be returning to Riad Bab Marrakech again later this year.

haha, making this picture was much harder than you would think. i mean, setting everything up for it was really funny and involved a lot of pushing furniture around and stealing tablecloths out of dining rooms. need i say more? :)

i'm not in the best mood because of three things:
1) biology test didn't go so well.
2) there's drama at school because of homecoming, ugh.
3) art club. let me explain this one, because i need to vent. i'm in art club at school, and we're in charge of doing all the homecoming decorations. cool, right? well, then the school band decides to ask us to make them a backdrop to play against for their show, that has to be done BY NEXT FRIDAY! that's insane, we need at least three weeks on this if we want it to be good, as it's going to take up about half the field once we assemble all the parts.
but still, we painted most of the road onto the big canvases (their show is called "road to victory") and had just started sponging in clouds, when we stopped and went inside to finish glittering the homecoming sign. when we stepped back out about a half hour later, it had rained! all of our hard work on the backdrop was ruined, the yellow and black and white all mixed together, and now i have to stay after all week fixing the stupid mess we made! and we're behind on everything now!

I will be putting up photos of the various quilts in my home. This is a modern, machine-quilted one, approximately 4 x 4 1/2 ft. It graces a rather unattractive wall in my livingroom & really adds cheer to the room. I won it at a church auction for $20--a huge bargain, I think! Added on June 8, 2009.

First off, I need to straighten the piece in the frame. :P I plan on making another one and putting it in a second fram (same type of thing but a little different on the colors and design). The light frame doesn't look right on that bright yellow so maybe a green rectangle will be painted on the wall underneath.

One of the most sumptuous examples of modernisme in Barcelona, the Casa Fuster sparkles elegantly at the top of the Passeig de Gracia. It is considered one of the most costly buildings ever built in the city, and it is precisely the combination of simplicity and harmonious decor which imbues the building with its great value and beauty.

Lluis Domenech i Montaner’s last building in Barcelona, which he worked on from 1908 in 1911 in association with his son Pere Domenech i Roure, was a wonderful gift from the wealthy Mallorcan, Mariano Fuster, to his wife Consol Fabra. The facade on Carrer Jesus features a relief bearing the initials C.F., reminding us of the original owner of the property. The entire building is infused with a neo-Gothic feel and understated modernista style. In fact, the beauty of the building lies in the use of very expensive fine materials, such as the white marble on the facade, glass and slate.

Domenech i Montaner left his unmistakeable imprint on the building with the characteristic pink columns, trilobate windows and classic floral motifs. He designed the building with an amazing combination of curves and straight lines; two flat facades meet a cylindrical turret on the corner with glass galleries decorated with sculptures reminiscent of swallows’ nests. The French-style top floor, and the elegant entrance, which was the home of the Cafe Vienes for many years, make the Casa Fuster a perfect example of the modernista style. The building has housed a luxury hotel since 2004.

El atico, de estilo afrancesado, y la elegante entrada, ocupada durante mucho tiempo por el Cafe Vienes, culminan la perfeccion de este edificio. Desde el ano 2004 la Casa Fuster aloja un hotel de lujo.

POLKA DOTS and CHECKS

POLKA DOTS and CHECKS- Chocolate- Pink- Michael Miller- Chocolate Rick Rack- 3 Pockets- Medium Tote Bag or Purse

I have combined two different Michael Miller prints to make this tote. A polka dots print and a checked print in the trendy colors of "chocolate and pink". Chocolate "rick rack" on the front of the tote separates the two prints. To close the bag I am using a hand covered button with a tab closure. It is fully lined with 3 pockets inside of the bag.

What a great accent for any room. It’s a modern pillow cover is made with heavy white satin as background and hand-cut polka dots black appliques. (The appliques are fused on to minimize fraying) Then I embroiled around the edge with decorative stitches (tiny stars) to give a fresh and unique look. The back of the cover is in a black fabric.

BH&G 1961 Contemporary

Of course one of the main styles is Contemporary, which has that much loved sleek mid-century modern vibe. It rarely feels sterile though, there are almost always homier elements mixed in - like this room, sporting a wall of wood paneling and lots of wood furniture and plants.

Natural elements dominate a lot of the book, actually. Wood furniture and paneling, stone and brick wall treatments, green plants (with or without flowers), fruit as a decorative accessory... you get the idea.
