Mantel, Tree, Railing… Unite!
Inspiration: My husband really loves Christmas & Christmas decorations, which to him means giant lighted reindeer on the roof or possibly in the house (if I would let him). I have come to grips with the fact that I am never going to get away with “just a tree” and will have to decorate the rest of the house as long as we both shall live. Determined to make our first Christmas in our first house one we both would love, I wanted to unite our tree, mantel, and railing. While decorating my tree I saved a few of the smaller bulbs for creating these bows that I placed on the end of my railing and on a vase on my mantel. If you have a dining room table you could put one there too… but we don’t have one yet. Hopefully by next Christmas!
What you need:
•Wire-edged ribbon - allows you thread the bulbs easier & helps you to manipulate your bow so you look like a pro
•Small Christmas tree bulbs – preferably ones that match larger ones on your tree
How to: I simply made a bow the size I needed first and set it aside. I then threaded the number of bulbs I wanted and then added them to the center of the bow and attached them to my railing and vase. The wire ribbon allowed me to fix any loops I messed up if squished while attaching everything. The result – Glittery Green Goodness!!!
This was such a treat. I felt so lucky to have visited. I cannot even describe in words how wonderful this house was. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Quite possibly perfect in its intentions, design, and execution. The couple who live here are young artist types who also keep it spare and minimally decorated with occasional postcard/art magazine-like artwork, tiny white votives along the floating staircase and in the corners of rooms, small plants on the rooftop and window ledges, minimal furniture. With something like 10 distinct levels, the beauty of this space is all of its individually calibrated areas. Nothing felt too big or small, the concrete was never oppressive, there was plentiful natural daylight. This is a very difficult house to document by photograph.
