The story : Antigoon - a giant - exacted a toll from those crossing the river Scheldt, and for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo(weaponsmith of Caesar), who cut off the giant's own hand and flung it into the river.

Brabo Fountain, Antwerp
(Local Name: Brabo Fontein) In the middle of the Grote Markt, the heart of old Antwerp, stands the large Brabo Fontein (Brabo Fountain) by Jef Lambeaux. Erected in 1887 it depicts the Roman soldier Silvius Brabo tossing the severed hand of the giant Antigonus into the Scheldt.
