New York Watch: Does It Every Time

New York Watch: Does It Every Time

With an impressive surge in the final hundred yards, Does It Every Time broke her maiden in Aqueduct Racetrack’s second race on Sunday and is the first filly to be featured in the recently introduced “New York Watch” series.

After finishing second by a head at 8-1 odds in her debut on December 27 at Aqueduct, Does It Every Time, trained by Richard Dutrow, Jr., was sent off at 6/5 for her second start, a six-furlong sprint. The 3-year-old Malibu Moon filly broke very well and settled into third place, a few lengths behind Tranquil Song.

As the horses entered the stretch, Tranquil Song spurted away to a three-length lead with Does It Every Time in pursuit and the remaining five competitors fading quickly. But Does It Every Time found another gear, gradually closed the gap, and got up to win by a neck over her game rival. It was more than six lengths back to third place.

Ramon Dominguez, New York’s leading jockey, had the mount on the filly for the first time, and was very impressed.

“I felt I had a lot of horse the entire race,” Dominguez said. “Tranquil Song never really stopped, but I had enough horse where when I asked her, she switched leads and was able to win. She has a lot of talent and did everything really professionally.”

Dominguez added that while the filly was close to the early pace in today’s race, he believes that she will eventually become a runner that comes from further back in the pack.

Does It Every Time, bred and owned by Jay Em Ess Stable, is by Malibu Moon out of the Gone West mare Andtheliviniseasy. Similarly to Does It Every Time, Malibu Moon broke his maiden in his second start, a maiden race at Hollywood Park in 1999. Unfortunately, he was subsequently retired after a knee injury cut short his promising career. However, he has gone on to become a very successful stallion, with seven graded winners in 2009 including Devil May Care, winner of the Grade 1 Frizette, and Funny Moon, winner of the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks.

Does It Every Time’s dam, Andtheliviniseasy, ran five times spanning 2004 and 2005 without a victory. However, her dam, Hedonist, won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks in 1998. Does It Every Time is Andtheliviniseasy’s first foal to race. Andtheliviniseasy also has a 2-year-old colt by Officer and was bred to Heatseeker in 2010.

Dutrow’s assistant trainer, Juan Rodriguez, was confident that Does It Every Time would break her maiden in her second race.

“In her first start, she broke poorly and still almost won,” Rodriguez said. “She breezed very well up to the race today. She has a lot of heart and will try every time.”

Picture Series

Picture Series

This is a visualization of an internal struggle with the process of learning. Personally, this struggle can best be applied to the overwhelming (but much needed) task of plant species memorization. To begin, the photo on the left represents where I typically begin the learning process – cold memorization in an academic setting. The blurred black and white image of books with no visible titles or interesting details exemplifies the cold feeling of initial introduction to new knowledge. The hardback books in this photo are out of focus and uninviting. The next photo in the series is to the right and shows an escalation in both the elevation of the stairs as well as a sense of gaining ground in knowledge retention. The idea of allowing vegetation to grow between steps is an example of a concept called scale jump because it is a smaller version of vegetation growing on the foothills of barren mountains. Scale jump was first introduced to me in the classroom in a power point presentation and took me by surprise when I saw it for the first time away from an academic setting. This photo exemplifies an unexpected encounter with an idea that triggers a memorable situation. This is an important jump in the learning process because it is an association of classroom knowledge with real world experience and causes an elevation in the learning curve. The third photo in the series is saturated with color and adds a human element to the learning process. The bright image represents the most powerful step in memory retention where there is direct contact between the learner and the idea. The best way for me to remember a concept or plant species name is by interacting with it in a self-motivated manner – for example, potting a plant species and watching it grown to become familiar with a particular plant species.
This series of photos began as an escalating linear composition to represent a simple learning curve. It has been completed in a continuous circular shape because as I have learned, the learning process is continuous. Also, important to notice is that no photo is larger than another because a learner is not statically in one step of the process but rather is in many stages at different times for different pieces of knowledge. From this project I have learned to come to grips with the fact that I cannot learn everything and that learning takes patience. The best way to attain the greatest amount of knowledge is by patiently allowing the process to take place gradually.

Camel and Kid

somehow i got talked into riding camels over to the pyramids of giza before dawn and watching the sun.

of course, there were several important flaws to the plan: it required me waking up really freaking early (i agreed to join the trip at around midnight the night before); the hill they were taking us to was east of the pyramids, which means the sun would not rise over the pyramids but rather on the opposite end of the sky from the pyramids; apparently a fog rolls into giza most mornings making the pyramids very difficult to see; and because of the hard sell the camel owners gave us for an extended version of the pyramid ride, we would actually miss the actual sunrise.

but i only knew about the first of these problems when i agreed to join the trip. this photo i took that bleary-eyed morning, before the sun rise, of my camel and the buy who would guide us to the pyramid-watching hill.

SDSU Sorority Girls in slutty Halloween costumes

I was taking pics around Frat Row at San Diego State, when all these cars suddenly pulled up. Suddenly, I was surrounded with sorority girls dressed up in slutty Halloween costumes. Needless to say, I grabbed my camera out as fast as possible. haha

One of the head girls challenged me and asked me what I was doing. I told her I was shooting in public legally and wasn't going to put these up for commercial puposes. Needless to say, she didn't seem too happy about this as the girls headed into the frat houses to surprise the frat boys.

G-SHOCK MUDMAN

G-SHOCK MUDMAN

Casio say:

"There's a reason why they call G-Shock the toughest watch in the world and these are just some of the many examples. Mud & Shock Resistant, 200M WR, Super Dual Illuminator and 48-city world time...the mission is on.

The CASIO G Shock Series of watches is one of the toughest in the world. Each watch is drop tested, vibration tested and water resistance tested to make sure that it will survive most active lives.

This CASIO G Shock Mudman Watch has rugged looks, Dual Illuminators for better visibility at night and is water, shock and mud resistant. It is the perfect companion for the men who likes to get down and dirty."

Anyway...decided to grab the closest thing I could find...throw together a quick lighting setup (SB-80dx bounced of the ceiling at full power) to test out my new NIKON D300s. And I must say...I LOOOOOVE IT.

And yes the watch is a little grubby, but well I am a man who likes to get a little "down and dirty"! :)

Baby sea bird!

Baby sea bird!

I have been watching this cute thing for about a month now. I have no idea how long the baby is in the egg before it hatches though. The mom (above) has been sitting on this egg day and night and seemed to never leave.

There was no nest - simply one egg lying on a branch that the mother sat on. The branch was low so I was able to walk up ever so often. The mother never even moved as I got as close as six inches. Today I was shocked to drive up and see the mother gone. Instead I had this thing chirping down at me. I took a few shots and came back about an hour later to take the shot above. The mother is actually sitting on top of the baby.

4-10-08 BANGS

4-10-08 BANGS

So, I've been sick for 15 days. I'm finally feeling good today. I've got energy. My throat is only moderately sore. And I'm not coughing. I'm convinced suddenly that I might not actually die from this horrible flu/strep throat combo.

When I finally dragged myself out of death bed, I realized how horrible I look. I need to go on a health kick. I need to refresh my body, my look, my spirit.

What better way to get started than to log onto YouTube and watch videos on how to cut bangs into your hair! After a few videos, I leapt out of my chair and grabbed the scissors. NOW I HAVE BANGS. I've never had bangs before. It's kind of exciting.

My new bangs are pictured here with my hair up in my usual lazy day knitting needle buns piled on top of my head. Now I need to shower and cut the rest of my mop. And get rid of those caterpillar eyebrows.

The new bangs cover the forehead wrinkles nicely. I left them especially long to cover the furrowed brow line between my eyes. But then I part it to the side, so you can see that canyon no matter what.

Anyway! BANGS! What do you think?

Isle Sainte Marie in a nutshell

Isle Sainte Marie in a nutshell

Not many nice maps on Google of this small island east of Madagascar. You can dive around the island, but most sources point you towards Isle aux Nattes for the best diving. The island is most famous for humpbackwhale watching from July until September.

Dive Sites:
The South
• Ile Aux Nattes:
La Pagode, an accessible, large coral formation that drops to 12m and allows for an easy dive. You may see rays, lobster, moray eels, turtles, trumpet fish and many coral species. The pagoda coral is a unique feature of this dive.
• The wreck that is situated not far off the coral reef is at 12m. You can easily penetrate the wreckage and the propeller provides some fun photo opportunities. The wreck is home to the bigger wreck dwelling species.
• Shark Pass is an 8m dive that is only done at high tide. Strong current flows along a small canyon and you can see small grey shark, surgeon and parrot fish.
West Coast
La Crique: Coco Bay an easy 25m deep dive down a granite stone slope. This dive has a variety of coral formations as well as orange and pink sea fans, pelagic fish like barracuda and tunnie and the usual coral fish abound like surgeon fish, rock cod and gobies. There is also the chance of encountering a turtles. A special feature of this dive is the black coral.
• The wreck dive is a challenging deep dive to 40m, but the sight of the huge pelagics makes this a very rewarding dive.
• Paroi des Merous drops to 40m is a site for experienced divers only and offers some exciting diving. You can see big groupers called Merou, potato bass, kingfish, barracuda, snapper and the usual coral fish. This is also a good site for nudibranches, porcelain shells and turtles. This dive site often had current and only advanced divers will be allowed to dive here.
The North
• La Cocoteraie:
Anivorano Rocks offers diving on granitic rocks with barracuda to 20m on this dive you may be lucky enough to see the Napoleon Wrasse. The strong current allows for an easy drift dive.
• The wreck of a Reunion cable boat is an easy dive at 15m providing magnificent photo opportunities – stonefish, crocodile fish, lionfish, puffer fish, octopus, lobster and the usual colourful reef fish keep you entranced.
• Cape Alebrand on the island’s North Cape, has a sandy sea bottom with granite rocks it drops to 20m. It is a beautiful dive, and there is the opportunity to see grey shark, black tip sharks, rays and barracuda as well as eagle rays.
The East
• Ile Aux Sable: This is a sandy islet off the east coast which has 3 good diving spots that range from 15 – 25 metres. The fish species that can be seen are: little black and white tip shark, groupers, lobster, kingfish, tuna, stingrays, pipefish and traveller fish. Turtles are also often sighted here and the coral gardens abound with the usual coral fish.
• Ile Aux Baleines (Island of the Whales): The same type of diving as at Ile Aux Sable, but a lot wilder and unexplored.
Humpback whales migrate past the island from July to October.

36/52 -- Watercolors

36/52 -- Watercolors

I picked another hot, humid day to go out and try to catch a colorful sunset again, and this one worked out a lot better than the last attempt! I took my camera and tripod out to 100 Acres: the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and set up at my favorite spot on the eastern edge of the lake about a half an hour before sunset. I watched the fish coming to the surface to make ripples, and the martens diving for bugs, and I even held very still while a couple of great blue herons squawked at me for invading their space. There was no breeze, so it was hot and sweaty, but it was peaceful -- 100 Acres always takes me a million miles away from my stress.

I was hoping for that perfect combination of clouds and color that turns the sky into a blaze of colors, but something was amiss, so I ended up with a very uniform was of pink and orange instead. I was a little bummed at first, but the more I look at this photo, the more I like it. It's warm and peaceful, and it was a nice start to the Labor Day holiday weekend. And then the mosquitoes decided that they were not impressed by my insect repellant after all, and they tried to gnaw off my left arm. I had to give up and head back to the car before it got completely dark, so I don't know what happened to the colors after this, but at least I got this far.

After all, the sun sets every single day, so there will always be another chance to try again! It was 99 degrees on Friday (the evening this shot was taken), then 100 degrees on Saturday, but now the weather has broken, and it was only in the high 60s today. *whew* I associate the most colorful sidewalks with hot and humid days, but I'll have to keep my eyes open now that it's cooler, too.

This photo is borderline impressive on black.

We met Philip and Julie in Xpuha.. They are very nice Swiss (all the SWISS are pretty nice so that I am not misunderstood) that let us crash on the living room for a couple of nights. It rained alot whilst we were there.. The snow level got real low and we were leaving along the Alps to Lyon.. "hey turn off the bright lights!!"., the two guys say!!! Actually we were eating easter bunny swiss chocolates and shelley thought it would be fun taking a picture of people eating.. Phillip and Julie didn't have any watches or gold bars, but lots of Swiss chocolate and Mexican beach pics.. thus destroys the myth that all Swiss have gold bars in their homes..

Busy Under-Card Taking Shape For Holyfield-Williams: Barrett, Kauffman, Johnson, Boswell, Welliver In Action

Busy Under-Card Taking Shape For Holyfield-Williams: Barrett, Kauffman, Johnson, Boswell, Welliver In Action

Busy Under-Card Taking Shape For Holyfield-Williams: Barrett, Kauffman, Johnson, Boswell, Welliver In Action

By James Slater: The upcoming January 22nd clash between faded legend Evander Holyfield and durable journeyman Sherman “Tank” Williams, which will go out on a Pay-Per-View, looks like having a stacked under-card as support. This may be just as well, because in truth the main event has failed to set pulses racing.

But, with a number of other heavyweights, and some decent lower-weight fighters set to be in action also, fans may feel the urge to buy the card. According to Boxrec, supporting the Holyfield-Williams ten-rounder will be fellow heavyweights: Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett (against Charles Davis), Travis Kauffman (with the once-beaten hope taking on the towering Julius Long), Chauncy Welliver (the fan-favourite facing Hector Ferreyro) and Cedric Boswell (against an as yet unannounced foe).

“King Pin” Kevin Johnson, according to his own recent press release, is also expected to fight a TBA on the bill. Also set to see action, according to Boxrec, are Lanardo Tyner and a couple of unbeaten up-and-comers/prospects. There will at least be plenty of bouts to tune in for two weeks today, then.

No, none of the heavyweight bouts planned is in any way big news, but there could be some fun fights taking place in West Virginia. The Kauffman-Long fight could go one of two ways in my opinion. Either 25-year-old “GW Hope” Kauffman, 21-1(16) wipes the 7’1” journeyman out in quick fashion (as guys such as Sam Peter, Audley Harrison and Alexander Ustinov did), or Long will be allowed to get warmed up and he will give Kauffman a hard night’s work.

Long, 15-14(13) has proven durable in recent outings; taking Ray Austin, Kelvin Price and Maurice Harris the distance. The 33-year-old can throw a guy’s timing off due to his incredible height and reach, and Kauffman may have to work to get his 22nd win.

It’s always fun watching Welliver fight, and his bout with “Hurricane” Ferreyro, 21-9-2(12) could be entertaining. “The Fat Dorky White Guy,” as Welliver, 45-5-5(15) was once known, is 10-0 since his sole stoppage loss, to Odlanier Solis in October of 2008, and his weight has come down in each successive fight. Possibly even on the verge of a big fight (Welliver even had his name mentioned as a possible Klitschko foe recently), the hard-working 27-year-old will look to put on a show on the card.

It’s almost always fun to watch “Two Gunz” Barrett in action, too. Coming off that unexpectedly good showing against David Tua, the 39-year-old New Yorker will look to keep busy as his talked-of return with Tua gets finalized. Davis, 19-21-2(4) doesn’t figure to trouble Barrett, and he was stopped by Johnson in the 4th-round in his last outing.

Will the Jan. 22nd card prove to be value for money? Maybe, maybe not. But enough fans will be curious enough to tune in to the show to make it a success.

Holyfield (43-10-2, 28 KOs) will defend his World Boxing Federation heavyweight title against battled-tested veteran Sherman “Tank” Williams (34-11-2, 19 KOs) in the 12-round main

event. Redemption In American, presented by ARK Promotions in association with The Greenbrier, will be distributed in North American by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 9

PM/ET 6 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay per view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, Avail-TVN and DISH Network in the United States, as well as Viewer’s Choice and Shaw PPV in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95.

Graham Gooch on his way to 333-England vs India 1st test Lords 1990

Graham Gooch on his way to 333-England vs India 1st test Lords 1990

The Indians, and especially their captain, Mohammad Azharuddin, had small reason to think so by the end, but the First Test was as brilliant a match as the players could hope to take part in, or spectators to watch. England's winning margin made it look one-sided; and no-one would dispute that, from lunch on the first day, when they were 82 for one after being put in, England were in control until the end. Certainly England's win, inspired by Gooch's historic innings of 333 and 123, which broke all kinds of records, was the result of a powerful performance by his team, and following the victory over New Zealand in the last Test of the previous series, it provided the first instance of England winning successive Tests since 1985.

Yet it would not have been the match it was without the vibrant batting of the tourists. Shastri and Azharuddin made splendid hundreds of contrasting styles, and Kapil Dev struck a high-velocity 77 not out, jauntily rounded off with four successive sixes to limit England's lead to 199 and thus save the follow-on. Each was straight-driven off Hemmings's offspin into the building works that throughout the season masqueraded as the Nursery End. When India were challenged by Gooch's second declaration to make 472 to win, or bat seven hours on a crusting pitch to draw, it was possible retrospectively to see that they were fighting a losing battle once Fraser and Malcolm had dismissed their openers in eight overs on the fourth evening.

Such was the depth of their batting, however, and the dash and artistry with which Vengsarkar and Azharuddin batted on the last morning as they put on 51 at four an over, that it was not until the former was caught at the wicket, trying not to play an offbreak, that it became obvious there could be only one result. When Azharuddin followed 20 minutes later, superbly caught at third slip as he tried to turn a straight ball into the leg side, India's spirit cracked, and the score, at one stage 114 for three, was eroded to 181 for eight. A flourish by the last two wickets added 43 and so raised the match aggregate to 1,603, two runs more than the previous record for the ground, established in England's 1930 classic with Australia.

In similar conditions of pitch and outfield, true and fast respectively, Bradman had scored 254 in that Test, Woodfull 155, Duleepsinhiji 173 and Chapman 121. What, if anything, could be inferred from the fact that in 1990 the average scoring-rate was 4.08 per over, whereas in the four-day Test of 1930 it had been 3.16? A different lbw law, favouring the modern bowler, and the swing to heavier bats, supposedly, favouring the batsmen - Gooch hit seven sixes with a three-pound Stuart Surridge Grand Prix Turbo - left too many imponderables for the question to be answered.

Of England's winning team against New Zealand at Edgbaston, Fairbrother and Small were dropped, while Stewart was put out of the reckoning by an injured back. They were replaced by Gower, returning after seven Tests, Morris of Derbyshire, a new cap, and Fraser, recovered at last from a rib injury suffered while in the Caribbean. Gower, debatably given out caught at point in the first innings, was outshone, while through no fault of his own, Morris faced only 21 balls. The 6ft 5in Fraser, however, played a leading part. Figures of five for 104 and three for 39 were due reward for his accuracy, bounce and movement at a lively pace. By using Shastri to open the batting, India made room to play the 17-year-old Bombay student, Tendulkar, who in England's second innings brought off as wonderful an outfield catch as Lord's has seen, holding Lamb's straight drive one-handed at knee height after hurtling more than 30 yards from wide long-off to a point behind the bowler.

At close of play on the first day, when England were 359 for two, Azharuddin tried to justify his decision to field by pointing out that had More, the wicketkeeper, held a routine chance when Gooch was 36, the score would have been 61 for two after 90 minutes' play. But 653 for four declared, with hundreds also from Lamb (in 276 minutes and 187 balls) and Smith (194 minutes, 155 balls), painted the picture truly. Azharuddin had made a bad misjudgment, and England made the most of it. Gooch, sharing with his vice-captain, Lamb, an all-wicket England v India record of 308, went on to make in 627 minutes (485 balls, three sixes, 43 fours) the highest score at Lord's, the third-highest by an Englishman in Tests, and the sixth-highest Test score overall before being bowled by medium-pacer Prabhakar, missing an off-drive. He was just 32 runs short of the world record of 365 not out, scored by Sir Garfield Sobers for West Indies against Pakistan in 1957-58.

Shastri, who made his hundred in 246 minutes and 184 balls, absorbed England's fast bowling like a born Test opener, only to mistime an on-drive off Hemmings. By contrast, Azharuddin dazzled. Not a few strokes early in his innings would have been hard t

One of the biggest influences of my life. I heard Tommy Gun when i was 4 and i used to jump around and hit things, i haven't changed much. I would play Tommy Gun again and again and again. I started getting their albums, London Calling was the first one i got, it was a bit disappointing at that age cos i just wanted punk, i really like that album now, death or glory, hateful, rudie can't fail, clampdown, all classic stuff. I got into the Sex Pistols a bit but when you're six a picture of Johnny Rotten or Sid Vicous scares the hell out of you. Plus i only really like Never Mind the Bollocks. I can remember i was sat on my dads knee at my nanas house watching the news when it came up that Joe had died, i was devastated. I went to a Clash tribute band gig with my dad n his mates, one of the best nights of my life. As i got older i understood more and more of his lyrics. I probably wouldn't be doing graffiti if it wasn't for him, he made me want to rebel. He has got me interested in politics also. I advise anyone to lisen to the Clash. Even though i'vee played his songs 5 million times before he still inspires me today. There's a part right at the start of The Future is Unwritten where Joe is singing white riot without music and then it kicks in, that bit is class!

** Smurfette in Taj Mahal, Taj Mahal or " The Taj " is considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles. While the white domed marble mausoleum is its most familiar component, the Taj Mahal is actually an integrated complex of structures. Building began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, and employed thousands of artisans and craftsmen. The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Wikipedia

In Hinduism, Durga (Sanskrit: ??????, meaning "the inaccessible"[1] or "the invincible"; Bengali: ??????, durga) or Maa Durga (Bengali: ?? ??????, ma durga, meaning "Mother Durga") "one who can redeem in situations of utmost distress".[citation needed] Durga is a form of Devi, the supremely radiant goddess, depicted as having ten arms, riding a lion or a tiger, carrying weapons and a lotus flower, maintaining a meditative smile, and practicing mudras, or symbolic hand gestures.[citation needed]

An embodiment of creative feminine force (Shakti), Durga exists in a state of svatantrya (independence from the universe and anything/anybody else, i.e., self-sufficiency) and fierce compassion. Kali is considered by Hindus to be an aspect of Durga. Durga is also the mother of Ganesha and Kartikeya.[2] She is thus considered the fiercer, demon-fighting form of Shiva's wife, goddess Parvati. Durga manifests fearlessness and patience, and never loses her sense of humor, even during spiritual battles of epic proportion.[citation needed]

The word Shakti means divine feminine energy/force/power, and Durga is the warrior aspect of the Divine Mother. Other incarnations include Annapurna and Karu?amayi (karu?a = kindness). Durga's darker aspect Kali is represented as the consort of the god Shiva, on whose body she is often seen standing.
Durga Slays Mahishasura, Mahabalipuram sculpture.

As a goddess, Durga's feminine power contains the energies of the gods. Each of her weapons was given to her by various gods: Rudra's trident, Vishnu's discus, Indra's thunderbolt, Brahma's kamandalu, Kuber's Ratnahar, etc.

According to a narrative in the Devi Mahatmya story of the Markandeya Purana text, Durga was created as a warrior goddess to fight an asura (an inhuman force/demon) named Mahishasura. He had unleashed a reign of terror on earth, heaven and the nether worlds, and he could not be defeated by any man or god, anywhere. The gods went to Brahma, who had given Mahishasura the power not to be defeated by a man. Brahma could do nothing. They made Brahma their leader and went to Vaikuntha — the place where Vishnu lay on Ananta Naag. They found both Vishnu and Shiva, and Brahma eloquently related the reign of terror Mahishasur had unleashed on the three worlds. Hearing this Vishnu, Shiva and all of the gods became very angry and beams of fierce light emerged from their bodies. The blinding sea of light met at the Ashram of a priest named Katyan. The goddess Durga took the name Katyaayani from the priest and emerged from the sea of light. She introduced herself in the language of the Rig-Veda, saying she was the form of the supreme Brahman who had created all the gods. Now she had come to fight the demon to save the gods. They did not create her; it was her lila that she emerged from their combined energy. The gods were blessed with her compassion.

It is said that upon initially encountering Durga, Mahishasura underestimated her, thinking: "How can a woman kill me, Mahishasur — the one who has defeated the trinity of gods?"[citation needed] However, Durga roared with laughter, which caused an earthquake which made Mahishasur aware of her powers.

And the terrible Mahishasur rampaged against her, changing forms many times. First he was a buffalo demon, and she defeated him with her sword. Then he changed forms and became an elephant that tied up the goddess's lion and began to pull it towards him. The goddess cut off his trunk with her sword. The demon Mahishasur continued his terrorizing, taking the form of a lion, and then the form of a man, but both of them were gracefully slain by Durga.

Then Mahishasur began attacking once more, starting to take the form of a buffalo again. The patient goddess became very angry, and as she sipped divine wine from a cup she smiled and proclaimed to Mahishasur in a colorful tone — "Roar with delight while you still can, O illiterate demon, because when I will kill you after drinking this, the gods themselves will roar with delight".[cite this quote] When Mahashaur had half emerged into his buffalo form, he was paralyzed by the extreme light emitting from the goddess's body. The goddess then resounded with laughter before cutting Mahishasur's head down with her sword.

Thus Durga slew Mahishasur, thus is the power of the fierce compassion of Durga. Hence, Mata Durga is also known as Mahishasurmardhini — the slayer of Mahishasur. According to one legend, the goddess Durga created an army to fight against the forces of the demon-king Mahishasur, who was terrorizing Heaven and Earth. After ten days of fighting, Durga and her army defeated Mahishasur and killed him. As a reward for their service, Durga bestowed upon her army the knowledge of jewelry-making. Ever since, the Sonara
