The August Cover
This month's cover illustration was reproduced from a Kodachrome transparency made by Andre de Dienes, professional photographer, New York City.
He took the picture with a 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 Graflex camera and 8" Zeiss Tessar f 4.5 lens, and the exposure was 1/25 second at f16 on Daylight Type Kodachrome cut film.
After obtaining a bouquet of flowers, de Dienes arranged the attractive setup with the aid of two professional models. In addition to placing his subjects so as to obtain a pleasing composition, he used a high camera angle in order to take full advantage of the flowers as a colorful background pattern, and to eliminate the sky and horizon.
