Making Persian Rugs
This is a stupid little book, but it drives me absolutely crazy. I love the feel and smell and I would most likely enjoy the taste—but what makes this book special to my heart is that it is my tool.
A tool is an object made by man, or an object found or used in such a way that it achieves an end it was not naturally meant to do. This stupid little book is sacred in that in a mere two pages I have instilled in it my heart and soul. In that sense it has become a sacred tool. I feed it ink and thought and it grows and shines back with a snapshot of my soul. In that way—it is alive! So, what started out a stack of pages compressed between two panes of skin—and who can forget that dainty ribbon—has grown into a spiritual tool, with more function that a crucifix has ever held. This breathing, growing, heart-beating thing from a stupid little book.
Finished persian flower project, framed up and ready to hang. Measures 225 x 225 stitches, in 14 ct canvas. What a challenge to design and stitch, but well worth the effort.
Inspired by a print of a persian rug study that was published in the late 1800's. The print hangs on my wall, and on the print, this flower is about 3/4 in at it's widest. I always thought it would make an excellent needlework, and here it is!
