Breitling Navitimer Should have given it a clean before I took this, its looks filthy close up! Pleased with the lighting though, being able to trigger my flash wirelessly has made me come over all creative! I love this watch and suspect that my other Navi is going to be sitting in its winder for a while... 1950's Omega Seamaster This is one of several vintage Omega's I have. I believe it is from the mid/late-50's but it might be 1960's. It works perfectly (although I do not have an automatic winder box so the date is usually off.). Rolex Datejust 1601 with slate blue dial This is one of my favorite watches. There is just something about the slate blue dial that looks classy with the SS watch, 14k white gold markers and fluted bezel. The Jubilee bracelet makes it look dressy, too. BTW, did you notice this is an older 1601/4, with piepan dial and non-quickset movement? Pretty cool, huh? Tudor Prince Oysterdate with blue dial The dial on this Oysterdate was refinished prior to my acquiring the watch for my collection. The quality of the redial was excellent, though. I enjoyed wearing this watch, especially on the blue kevlar strap. Week 15: Formula 1 *catching up on my 43 Weeks Project* Truth be told, Formula 1 is the only sport I enjoy watching. Maybe because my uncle has greatly influenced me with this excitement for grand prix types of sports. We used to watch F1 races back when I was little. And since my friends and I randomly brought this topic up yesterday, I figured I might share my interest in such sport. The thing that struck me the most during our short conversation regarding F1 races is when a friend of mine told me that a DJ once said "A lot of girls brag about going to F1 races but they can't even name a single driver" I mean, wow. I'd love to watch F1 races in real life! I might even kill for a ticket (lol no, i wouldn't go that far but, well, you know what I mean)...and maybe even brag about it too. But at least I can name some of the teams' drivers (e.g. Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Kimi Raikkonen) because it's actually a sport I have grown to like over the years and not just some awesome talk-of-the-town event that I would want to attend to just so I can brag about it and become temporarily popular for a week *rolls eyes* Formula 1: British Grand Prix Sebastian Vettel - Red Bull Racing Silverstone 2010: Round 10 of the 2010 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, won by Mark Webber (RBR-Renault), with Lewis Hamilton second (McLaren-Mercedes) and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes GP) in third. "Columbus 47 Years Ago. Commissioner Bellows Talks of Old Times in the City" Columbus Dispatch 7/22/1896 Page 7 Columbus 47 Years Ago. Commissioner Bellows talks of old times in the city. Old Citizens and Landmarks Recalled for Modern Newspaper Readers. (UNREADABLE) and Incidents Described by a Pioneer Resident – Changes of Half Century. County Commissioner George Bellows is one of the old citizens of Columbus, and having been a very active man all his life has many interesting incidents stored up which are worth entertaining and of value in many ways. Recently Mr. Bellows was requested to address an appreciation of pioneers. He says it almost took his breath from him when asked to make a public speech, because that was not his forte. When it comes to relating reminiscences, however, Mr. Bellows is at home and relishes it as much as his audiences do. Recently Mr. Bellows, while taken with a spirit of going back to Old Times, told of the condition of things here 47 years ago, when he came to the city. He said Columbus had almost 18,000 inhabitants within the limits bounded by Livingston Avenue, the Scioto River, (UNREADABLE) street and Grant Avenue. The houses for the most part were small, plain brick and wooden structures with but few churches and only three school houses, the latter being the North, Central and South schools and a high school located on Town Street. Ada D. Lord was the superintendent and his assistants were Alma (UNREADABLE) and Anna C. (UNREADABLE). There were 23 (UNREADABLE) and 1,591 scholars in the High (UNREADABLE), and the school buildings numbered 12 with 16,746 scholars and over 400 teachers and principals. The churches have kept pace with the school houses. Mr. Bellows says he came to Columbus to assist in the construction of Starling Medical College, which Mr. R.A. Sheldon, the architect had secured. “I was at that time working for Mr. Sheldon in Brooklyn, N.Y.” said Mr. Bellows, “his office at the time was located at No. 8 Wall Street, New York. Many of those who worked with me upon that building have been gathered to their kindred dust, as have many of those who comprised its first faculty and with whom I was well acquainted, notable among those being Drs. Howard, Carter, Smith and others. Dr. Gay who was the first administrator of anatomy is the only one that is living of the first faculty, so far as I know.” "We had no railroads at that time. The present state house was not in existence at that time, but on the site of this building was a long line of low, plain two-story brick buildings fronting on High Street. The state house proper was situated about 100 feet back each way from High and State streets. It was only a two-story brick building with a (UNREADABLE) roof and (UNREADABLE) in which hung the belt made famous by the poetic lines of our brother townsman John M. Dening. And here I must not forget to mention the old First Presbyterian church in which the (UNREADABLE) Dr. Hogg ministered for so many years." "It was said of the architect who remodeled the old church (all but the steeple) that he accomplished in one year what the doctor had failed to do in many, namely bringing them all to repentance, it having cost much more than the congregation had anticipated. It was also said of the original builder of the old church that the reason why he should have the contract was that he had carried that steeple in his head for a number of years, which when the immense size of the timbers used in the construction is considered, undoubtedly had great weight with the building committee for they gave him the job. He must have had an eye for business, for when we came to take the old steeple and replace it with the present one we found this admonition written onto a shingle; “I wish you would work harder and drink less whisky.” "While we were getting the college building ready for the fall term we were very much hurried. I was at work on the stairs and I suppose it looked a little dangerous to Dr. Howard because we were up so high. One day while he was watching us, the doctor said “Hurry up the best you can George, and if you fall down and break your neck, I’ll set it for nothing." I appreciated his kindness, but in the mysterious providence of life, I am still here and he is not.” “Among the people of this city at that time there were the McCoys, Kelseys, Keltons, Plattis, Medberys, Gwynnes, Gills, Moodys, Kilbournes, Goodales and many others with whom I had dealings, all of whom have passed into the Great Hereafter.” “I remember of a (UNREADABLE) incident at the old city bank in which (UNREADABLE), Plate, McCoy and Moody were drinking spirits. They had an old Scotchman for a bookkeeper with whom I got quite well acquainted. I was making at that time $10 per week and managed to put into the bank $350 per year. One day I was putting some money in the bank and my old Scotch friend called me to him and whispered in my ear saying “That’s right, save your money for as long as you have money you will have plenty of friends.” “At that time the country around Albert G. Lucas1 Co. E, 34th ILL. Infantry Pages 627-632 from A Twentieth century history and biographical record of Crawford County, Kansas, by Home Authors; Illustrated. Published by Lewis Publishing Company, Chicago, IL : 1905. ALBERT G. LUCAS. Albert G. Lucas, A. M., long an active minister of the Christian church, almost throughout his long lifetime writer for or editor and publisher of newspapers, a man of varied experience in public, business and professional affairs, is now closing up his life accounts in his home at Girard, and at the age of eighty odd years is active in mind and body and hopes to continue so until the summons to the great beyond. Mr. Lucas not only has a long personal history but also his family annals cover and are closely identified with the most important phases of American nationality. He was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, June 23, 1823, a son of Samuel and Hannah (Blair) Lucas, who were the parents of nineteen children, fourteen sons, of whom our subject was the youngest, and five daughters, but Mr. Lucas is now the only survivor of this large family. His mother, who was a woman of excellent intellect, transmitting many of her qualities to her children, was related to the ancient Scotch stock of the Montgomerys, Campbells and McPhersons. On the paternal side Mr. Lucas has reason to be proud of the patriotic record of his forebears, for his grandfather served five years and six months in the war for independence, was with Washington at Valley Forge, at the fighting in New Jersey, at the famous crossing and recrossing of the Delaware river, and at the surrender of Cornwallis. Afterward he served nearly three years in the Indian wars, and he lived to the great age of one hundred and three years. The entire family are noted for vigor of mind and body, and longevity is one of their marked characteristics. Going back into the old ancestral lines, there is ample documentary evidence to prove that the Lucases descended from a long line of Saxon barons, who were among the first to accept the Lutheran reformation, and, although the more immediate ancestors married into a family of Irish Catholics, Mr. Lucas' father never yielded one jot of his Protestantism, but was himself a stout Presbyterian with all that word implied a hundred years ago. Samuel Lucas, the father, was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, April 10, 1778, and was a farmer and a school teacher. He voted for Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. He served eighteen months in the war against Great Britain in 1812-15. Mr. Albert G. Lucas, who is the only living representative of his parents' large family, was reared in Pennsylvania mostly, and began his education as a child, both parents taking part in his instruction and thus supplementing the meager work of the public schools. At his sixteenth year he was considered competent to teach, a pursuit which he entered upon in Clarion county, Pennsylvania, beginning February 14, 1839, and he taught every winter and some in the summers until the winter of 1850. In March of the latter year he graduated in medicine at Philadelphia, and in the April following took up practice. He continued to pursue his studies, literary and otherwise, with unremitting ardor till in 1878, when the faculty and management of Abingdon College, Illinois, saw fit to bestow upon him the honorary degree of "Magister in Artibus." He also holds two state teacher's certificates, one for Illinois and one for Missouri, and by hard study and honest industry attained the degrees of M. D. and A. M. At the outset of his career for a year or so he was inclined to ramble, incidentally forming habits of intemperance, which, indeed, he inherited to a great extent, it being customary in those days to drink on all public occasions and also in the family. As already stated, his first step was school teaching, by which he was enabled to continue his studies, and which also gave him an opportunity to study human nature, which he did to the extent of his ability. His life experience has in fact been a rather checkered one. He began writing for the press when only fourteen years old, and from that time on there was not a year when he did not produce something to appear in print. In 1847 he was engaged as associate editor of the Franklin (Pennsylvania) Gazette, a mildly Whig paper. His productions were all of an anti-slavery cast, and mostly in poetry. While living in Ohio in the early forties he was married, and he continued to reside in that state until the spring of 1845, when he returned to Pennsylvania, where he lived until the autumn of 1854, engaged in teaching, preaching, and studying medicine and the German and Latin languages. Becoming somewhat disgusted with the uncertainty of the "healing art," he left for Illinois, where he intended to put in his time teaching and preaching. Here he fell in with a homeopathic physician, and soon was convinced that i Similar posts: cheap swiss watches watch my name is earl episodes online where can i watch full episodes of true blood cheap watches for sale braided leather watch bands watch tv without cable watch cabin boy real diamond watch watch full episodes of one tree hill season 5 |

119/365 As I sat at my desk, trying desperately to convince my wayward mind that I in fact really did want to be doing my assignment, my eyes came to rest on a picture of an iMac that hung from my cork board reminding me of the sweet days that would soon be upon me, and any chances of concentrating on something that was not an iMac, were dashed. My visions of 24” screens, Quad Core 3.2GHz Intel Xeon Processors and sleek packaging that draws me close to weeping with anticipation, were blinded by a startling solution. Not only could I get out of my hot box of a room, and the guilt that follows me around the house whispering softly in my ear every time I sit down to watch an episode of the Amazing Race, but I could also be doing something directly related to my education thus silencing my guilt completely. I jumped onto the Internet with a speed that normally accompanies the arrival of a new DVD in the mail, and found that there was a free Art Show in Fremantle, on which I could base my shortly due Critical Analysis on. I felt a sense of accomplishment usually reserved for after I finish cleaning the house, and proceeded to rifle through my closet trying to find an outfit most closely resembling that of a young, funky yet slightly nerdy art critic. Putting aside my disappointment at finding a closet full of jeans and t-shirts, I headed towards Fremantle with a smile on my face and Traveling Wilbury’s in my ears. As my first 30 minutes at the Art Centre passed with only displays of old Merry-go-Round horses and examples of the cells in the old insane asylum in sight, I began to wonder if I had in fact come to the wrong place. The plethora of old people wandering the grounds seemed to confirm my concerns as I expected to be girt by appropriately dressed, young, arty, Fremantlians. Although I was pleased to be the best looking person there, the lack of an art show ate at me like a flesh eating bug. I wandered the grounds trying wretchedly to look like I belonged and wasn’t in fact lost and finally stumbled upon the exhibit I was looking for, that was tucked away right at the back, unsigned and so vague in it’s actual location that I thought they must have done it on purpose to make it more creative. Or to drive off the stupid people, as their displays were so mind blowingly interesting that it was only safe for intelligent people to view. As I found the majority neither mind-blowing or particularly that interesting, my thoughts were filled with worry that I wasn’t as smart as I professed to be, as I sauntered back to the car, finding the outside surrounds far more engaging than the exhibit itself. My thoughts swiftly turned to food, as I realised how hungry I was. As my blood sugar dropped, my thoughts turned more often to orange juice, jellybeans and hash browns and before I knew it, I was indicating and pulling into my old favourite hangout, the local organic store. Now when one is working full time and earning a decent wage they can be forgiven for indulging in expensive organic produce, but the knowledge that I am now a poor student loomed over me as I tentatively entered the store, wondering if I would set off the ‘poor people’ alarm. The silence and lack of security guards tackling me to the ground shouting, “Can you afford to be here Miss!!” set me at ease and a comforting fondness palliated my tense demeanor. After completing my initial circuit of the store I reviewed my purchases and calculated roughly that to pay for what I had stashed in my basket, I would have to somehow get pregnant, give birth and sell my child on the black market, all in the next 5 minutes, before the old Nonna in front of me finished unloading her San Pellegrino and Pasta Lensi. I again used my superior math’s skills to calculate the odds of accomplishing that feat and my answer caused me to return all but three essential items in my basket. I progressed through the checkout with my drastically desolate purchases and was surprised that I found myself cringing at the exorbitant total as I was quite aware when I entered that I would be using up a weeks worth of icy pole money. I traveled home, munching on my bio-organic licorice rope and sipping my organic fat-free choc milk, whilst Rod Stewarts voice skipped from the back to the front speakers every time I went over a bump in the road. I opened the window and with my mouth full of licorice, eed to the world “Bring over some of your old Motown records” day 62 Full moon with the results that one can see, hear and feel. First I pissed off my dearest gg but it's too embarrassing to talk about it here. Then, when it was about time to get some sleep I started bombing him with messages, soon realizing that my flatmate was suffering from insomnia as well. She even had started working again. At 1 AM. Quickly we formed a full moon emergency group in my room, howled and watched an episode of "Master and Margarita". At around 2:30 AM Maret gave it another try and went to bed. I couldn't resist the temptation and started the 1st episode of "Heros" season II. No sleep after I finished that one. Obviously. So, I continued with episode 2 after what I turned off the computer and waited for some sleep to come. It was 4:15. The sleep comes. It's insane but at 4:45 my phone is ringing. I look for the phone and see who's calling. A friend who's never done "drink and dial" trick before. I put it on mute and decide to ignore it. I'm closing my eyes. Well, after watching Master and Margarita and all this Heroes stuff one can't really expect to have normal fantasies about reasons why one might call during that time. Instantly I feel something might be very bad with the friend. I open my eyes and look for the phone. He's still calling. me: yes? friend: hey... what's up? me: (wtf?) - i?m SLEEPING. what's up, are you calling me to ask whether I am observing the moon eclipse? friend: actually... I wanted to ask whether you have some bandage or something. I'm bleeding. me: what? from where? how? why?! he sounds extra cool saying it. friend: well, we did a joke or something with friends and now i think i cut my veins. i'm getting irritated because he sounds really calm. me: what do you mean, you think you cut your veins. from where?? friend: my hand me: where exactly? friend: my finger. fuck. what a wanker. me: there are no veins in fingers. friend: well, it's an aorta then. me: there are NO AORTAS in your fingers. wtf are you saying to me? are you really in trouble or is it a joke? friend: it's not a joke. i'm downstairs. me: well, i don't have any bandage anyway. at this point I get really upset and hang up the phone. I switch off the light, close my eyes and instantly a huge wave of guilt comes again. The pictures of a friend, abandoned by all his friends and me, bleeding to death in front of my house avalanche my brain. I switch on the light once again and dial his number. me: hey. so, why don't you go to the emergency? friend: well.. i don't really want to. me: where did the friends disappear? friend: you know boys... they all went away... me: how bad is the bleeding? friend: i think the bleeding has stopped... kinda.. for god's sake. me: are you drunk? friend: yes. me: ahhh.. I hang up. Dr Luule Viilma has said: each person consists of 51% of goodness and 49 % of badness and this is the right balance. The more goodness you show outside, the less of it must be left inside, because it's the balance. The same with the bad side. New show recorded that had a key word 'sex' With BeyondTV you choose what you want to record. It's not like TiVo where it will download shows you might be interested in. On the weekends I delete shows Jeff and I have watched as well as check shows that may have the timing error. I delete them once I know I can find them online (FL, Hulu, EZTV). Today I saw a show that I saw a commercial for but didn't create a recording. Anyhow I guess Jeff watched it last night (I passed out) and knew I'd enjoy it because of the key word in the title and all the drama. Haven't watched it yet. Daylight Saving Time ends tonight. I'm glad. I prefer that it's dark at 5PM. For some reason I'm more active when it's dark and it'll be nice that the stores will be open. Cell phone dreams Went to the "Alberta Railway Museum" today with a few flickr peeps. While there the unthinkable happened, my Canon ran out of batteries!!! I was forced to resort to my cell phone camera. This is the result. Very cool museum. We'll see if I got any shots I like when the batts are recharged. If so I may put one or two up on flickr for all to enjoy. Happy picture taking! And remember, when all else fails your cell phone still has a camera. ;-) What constrains us is often not our technology, it's our imagination. edit: ... Valentines Day at the Races Racing is not my thing. Horses are not my thing. Despite the fact that Exeter Racecourse is but a few miles away, I have never been in my 30 years living here. Until today. My Mum watches the racing on the telly and she, too, has never been. So, for her 83rd birthday she got a day at the races! It's still not my thing, but I came back with a some photos I quite like, so I expect a few may follow. Here's a taster. I put a fiver on that guy with the blue top with pink shoulder flashes in the last race. He didn't win. None of my horses won but I always thought gambling was a mugs game. At least I only threw away about ?25. There were plenty of people bettting hundreds at a go. I find it hard to believe: different world! Roma Generations Roma Gypsies, Irish Travellers gather at Stow Fair once a year to trade horses, watch horse races, catch up with old friends and celebrate their traditional cultures. There are said to be 90-120,000 Gypsies and Travellers living in the UK today, although a further 200,000 of Gypsy/Traveller ancestry are thought to be living in housing. Restrictive planning laws have led to a significant reduction in traditional stopping places and many giving up the travelling life. Barrel of Monkeys ornament This ornament was sent to spookshowbaby77 as part of the IYP swap on craftster. This is a design of my own. I started watching iCarly with my daughter when it came out and noticed that they have huge plastic versions of these monkeys hanging on the wall behind the stairs. When I decided to design a new ornament this year, after having come up with an ornament last year that was based on a toy I grew up with, I thought that I wanted to stick with the era and possibly the toy idea. That's when I flashed back to the iCarly set and decided to see what I could do with a barrel of monkeys. :-) This is the first version, with the wreath. I also have one that holds an ornament and on carrying a Christmas tree. The arms are made firm and flexible with pipe cleaners, he is made from felt and is hand stitched. 30890PCN Miranda 30890, HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES -Thursday May 14 2009. Dave's apartment in Helsinki Another view of the living room. I get 6-7 channels including a Finnish sports station where I can watch motor racing, pro volleyball, equestrian events such as trotting, sailing, and pro badminton. I'm not kidding. I've seen all of those. They also pick up feeds of the European PGA and major soccer matches. I get BBC world, MTV Europe (Lordi rocks!!), and several other Finnish stations includng one that ran an uncut version of Beverly Hills Cop last night and showed an ad for Deadwood. Profanity and nudity do not seem to be much of an issue here. Programs generated in Finland seem a bit odd to me to say the least. They lean towards reality-DIY-webcast-online chat hybrids.
