266: But in time we all forgot and we all grew Sunday, April 10, 2011 Song of the day: Panic at the Disco "Folkin' Around" Look at how wrinkly my hands are- I never knew! I have three tattoos total and two are seen in this photo. The other is a little blue star on the top of my foot. What can I say? I like tattoos on my limbs. Here's the story of the two on my wrists: The three hearts represent my immediate family- mom, dad, brother Tony. I got it on a family trip to the tattoo parlor which has become a tradition. My mom also got three hearts tattooed on her wrist for our family. The tattoo on my right wrist says "Bucurie" and I also got this one during a family trip to the parlor. It means 'joy' in Romanian- peasant Romanian. My gram is 100% Romanian and swears she's a Gypsy. Mine and my mom's middle name is Joy. I dunno, put those two facts together and bam- you got this tattoo. My gram was excited that I wanted a tattoo in Romanian because at the time she felt that "no one in the family admits they're Romanian" and that "no one cares." Ironically, the Romanian in me has always been the most interesting and intriguing. I love it when my Grandma shares stories about Romanian culture and defends Gypsies and talks about secret love affairs. Her first language was Romanian and she was even held back from kindergarten for a year because she didn't speak English well enough. Some funny bits of info about these tattoos, which makes the permanence of tattoos that much more apparent, is that they aren't facing the same direction. The hearts are facing me and the word is facing away from me. I guess the "correct" way is to have it facing away from you so that you can "present" it to others. Luckily, I like things a little whacky so the fact that they are opposite is perfect for me. Today was a great Sunday. I woke up at a decent time, got coffee drunk while watching music vids and cleaned. Then went grocery shopping, painted a new pot for one of my cacti, cleaned Fiona's (my betta) home, etc. etc. etc. I predict a relatively chill rest of my Sunday which will comprise of watching tele and trying to finish my &@*^#*(@YHD(*@# mime stop-motion video. 99 days, 99 days!! So excited. "99 red balloons go by" An old friend Today saw someone talking about watches on a web forum, and I was inspired to record this image of the Seiko I have been wearing on my wrist since I bought it in a Spokane, WA, department store in 1989. Clean, simple, reliable, not expensive but not cheap either (I think it was around $80 in 1989, equivalent to about $140 today). Hopefully it will be the last watch I ever have to buy. Every couple of years I take it into this little watch repair shop on Newport Blvd in Costa Mesa and the European guy there gets all excited (he likes Seikos) and replaces the battery and crystal and cleans it up for $5. "That's a good watch," he says as he hands it back to me, every time. Yes, that's a drawing on an AR-15 receiver in the background.
