RED DOG MINE PORTSITE, Alaska - An Alaska Air National Guard HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew lands at the Red Dog Mine Portsite 83 miles north of Kotzebue to participate in an Emergency Towing Exercise with Coast Guard and industry assets and personnel Aug. 9, 2011. The Air Force crew was able to familiarize themselves with the towing system and the procedures for slingloading it to a vessel, but equipment needs and the small deck space aboard the Kodiak-based 225-foot Coast Guard Cutter SPAR led the aircrew to abort the mission and the 126-foot Seattle-based tug Sidney Foss was used to transport the ETS from the mine to the cutter and tow the SPAR.
