Everyday I go to Sonic. I almost always park in the same stall. Today we pulled in at the end of the 3foot stockade fence was a dog, tied to the fence, howling and yelping, and whining in the opposite direction. My daughter and I looked at each other and studied the dog. Obviously distressed it kept looking in the direction of the building across the empty lot. A block down and to the left from it is a large homeless shelter. We watched and studied. Then I noticed a small piece of cardboard with writing on it. My heart skipped a beat, my daughter (must have seen it at the same time) looked at me and in unison we said “No, Oh no”!!! Tears welled up as I sent her to get the cardboard note. Too far away to read, I knew what it said. I read the first line and lost it. “My name is Meme I am 7yrs old. I am Fixed & Very Lovable My owner could not Keep me – We are Homeless. Please Keep Me or Take me to the Animal Shelter. Thank You.! Without a word, we exchanged looks and she got back out of the car and got back in with the dog. Now with Meme on the front floor and her lap We all cried.. My grand daughter in the back seat asking, “What’s wrong” I took some time to explain. And then she acted sad too. And put her hand on Meme and said “It’ be okay, we love you now” How many broken hearts this day?!! There is nothing sadder than the cry of a heart broken basset hound. Meme was not consolable. When we could talk, over her wailing. We decided we have too many animals and too tight a budget. So we pulled out (without ordering) and headed for the shelter (on the other side of town) I made a point of driving past the Homeless shelter ( slowly), it was the only one of two times Meme stopped crying. Her nose worked the air as she searched the groups gathered along the street. My daughter stroked and hugged her. If her owners were there maybe they saw she would be cared for. I hope it helped them, I know they are in pain too. As we pulled out onto the next street her crying continued. 3 miles down the road, while sitting at a traffic light, there was a homeless man with a sign, “Will work for food” , . She stopped crying and watched him, Her nose working overtime.. We smiled at him and nodded. I think he knew her but was not his. He waved looking at her. The light turned green and she began crying again. Looking forward now. We began to howl, and she howled with us. She seemed comforted that we would join her howl. ( howling hurt the ears less than wailing So for the rest of the journey across town, all four of us howled. We must have been a sight. When we reached the shelter, I looked at my daughter and said “If she doesn’t go into adoption” and my daughter cut me off saying ”We WILL adopt her”. Meme stopped crying. We got out of the car and I took this picture. We took her inside, showed them her sign and cried a little more. signed her in, gave her hugs .They gave me a sheet with her picture on it and all the numbers I need to check on her. We went back to Sonic. (past happy hour now). We found out Meme had been there about an hour wailing, howling and crying. But no one saw anyone leave her. By law the shelter has to keep her in lost dog area for 3 days (not counting Sat & Sun). I call Wednesday to find out if she goes to adoption or….. Well, there is no or !!! Except coming to our home. And for $25 she’ll have a fresh bath and all her current shots. I really hope she gets to go to adoption. But she is an o Luna's Bashful Pin-up Dog Poster Mom, this is embarassing! I don't want the world to see me naked like this. Luckily, this carpenter's toolbelt is big enough to cover me up where it counts. I refuse to let go of it until you put that camera away. Really, when will my Mom outgrow this camera thing? The next thing you know, she'll capture a picture of me when I've just gotten out of the bath tub! Then I'll be naked all for the whole world to see. Clarence W. Swank 1850-1895 I'm not related to Clarence Swank but felt I should find him. While researching my genealogy, I found an 1895 newspaper article about Clarence and my great grandfather, Judge Thomas Rusk Yantis. It seems my GGF was at the train station in Wills Point on 16 Feb 1895 when he got into an argument with another attorney. The two got into a scuffle and then the other man pulled a gun. My great grandfather beat him to the draw and fired but as he did, the other man fell and the bullet struck Clarence W. Swank who was just stepping off the train. Swank was killed and my great grandfather was tried for his death but found not guilty as it was an accidental shooting. The sad irony was that Clarence Swank and my great grandfather were the best of friends. Mary E. Swank was born Mary Elizabeth Graham, they had two children, Ammye (1875-1948) and Archie B. (1878-1950). Ammye married John R. Finney and the one word Finney appears on the other side of this marker. Archie married Olin Gilchrist, she committed suicide in 1934 by jumping out of a 3rd floor window at a hospital in Galveston, TX. Ammye, Archie and Olin are all buried adjacent to this stone. This stone is at White Rose Cemetery, Wills Point, Van Zandt County, TX. The following article was taken from the Wills Point Chronicle: "WRONG MAN KILLED AS JUDGE AIMS AT ATTORNEY-21 Feb 1895- A very deplorable accident happened in our little city last Saturday morning at 11:35 o'clock, just after the Texas & Pacific passenger train No. 2 ran into the depot, resulting in the death of one of Wills Point's best citizens, Captain C.W. Swank, who was at the depot on business. "The cause of the accident was a difficulty between ex-County Judge T.R. Yantis and County Attorney W.W. Berzett. On such occasions there is always much excitement and almost everyone sees things in a different way. As to the facts in the case, we simply give the statement of City Marshall Marabel, who was on the scene of disturbance. Mr. Marable ways: 'I was inside the office of the Texas & Pacific Railroad as the east bound passenger train No. 2 came in, about 11:35 o'clock. The train had been in but a few seconds when I went to the door and discovered W. W. Berzett and T.R. Yantis engaged in a fist fight. I immediately attempted to stop them by getting between. I saw Berzett draw his pistol and in an instant, and before I could prevent it, Yantis had drawn his and fired, his hand just in front of me. Just as the first and only shot was fired, Berzett turned to run and slipping, fell, and I think the ball passed over him striking Mr. Swank. I am of the opinion that Berzett was between Yantis and Mr. Swank. At first I did not know who was shot as I took charge of Yantis and carried him inside the depot.' "Physicians were summoned immediately but to no purpose, for the leaden missal had done its deadly work and Capt. S.W. Swank was beyond all human aid. The ball passed entirely through his body striking the lower point of the heart and causing instant death. "Judge Yantis was taken in charge of Marshall Marable and, as Justice Riley was disqualified from hearing the examining trial, by reason of his kinship with Mr. Yantis, was carried to Canton where he waived examining trial on a charge of negligent homicide and was admitted to bail in the sum of $1,000. Mr. Yantis and Capt. Swank were the warmest personal friends and no one regrets the unfortunate affair more than he. "The funeral services took place from the family residence Monday morning at 10 o'clock under the beautiful and impressive ceremony of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which he was a member. All the business houses closed and near the entire population of the city followed this good man to his last resting place, all bemoaning his untimely death and sympathizing with family and relatives in their sad affliction. "Deceased was born in Illinois, 27 Aug 1850, but moved to Texas when quite young and for many years has been a resident of this county. He has been on the road for a number of years, holding various important positions with large St. Louis firms. His high standing among the business men is evidenced by the numerous messages of condolence received from his associates. The traveling men of St. Louis wired that a floral offering might be presented in their behalf as the only possible means of expressing their deep friendship. He will be missed by his friends, but those who will miss him most are an aged mother, and a wife and two children. "At the time of his death Capt. Swank was a traveling salesman for the Wertheimer-Swarts Shoe Co. of St. Louis, Mo." That fall the following item appeared in the newspaper: "7 Nov 1895--The case of ex-County Judge Yantis, for the accidental shooting of Capt. C.W. Swank here on the 16th of Feb last, was tried in District Court at Canton with the jury returning a verdict of not guilty." Judge Thomas Rusk Yantis Judge Yantis was born 9 April 1857 in Millville, Rusk County, Texas. He was educated at the Alexander Institute in Kilgore, Texas. He moved to Canton, Van Zandt County in 1879 as a school teacher. He read law on the side and was accepted to the bar in Van Zandt County in 1881. He was the Van Zandt County Judge from 1892 to 1896. He also was the senior partner in the law firm of Yantis & Hubbard with attorney Charles L. Hubbard. In 1890 he had married the popular Belle Riley, daughter of David Love Riley, Jr. and Mary C. Hobbs. Thomas and Belle had 8 children, 5 surviving to adulthood including my grandmother. Belle died in 1917, Thomas died on 8 Feb 1932 at his home in Canton. Thomas and Belle are buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Canton, Van Zandt County, Texas. Thomas and Belle were my maternal great grandparents. In researching my great grandfather, I found an article in the Wills Point (Texas) Chronicle newspaper, dated 21 Feb 1895, that he had been involved in a fatal shooting on 16 Feb 1895 at the railroad station in Wills Point. A Texas & Pacific train had just stopped when, for some reason, Thomas Rusk Yantis and another attorney, W.W. Berzett got into a scuffle (two lawyers, go figure). Yoakum, lifetime railroad man and agriculturist. Road was built 1902-07 from Houston to Cleburne, and with special trackage arrangements it became a short-cut hauler from Galveston to Fort Worth and Dallas. It introduced diesel passenger streamliners to Texas; belonged to Burlington-Rock Island complex during most of its first 60 years of service. Texas attained a peak of 17,078 miles of railroads in 1933. Trains still have respected roles in freight hauling. But the era of regulating family clocks by passage of the "Boll Weevil" or some other train is now largely a matter of warmly-cherished history. [37/365] The Truth Is Out There Day thirty seven Cheesy title, hurray =] So yeah, took this in the theatre right after seeing the new X-files movie. I was trying to get something good out of going to the theatre that day, since the movie was so unbelievably terrible. I've never been a huge X-files fan, but I know enough about it to know this movie was suck-tastic compared to like, any one of the good episodes. And if you don't happen to know anything about the show, you would think it was awful based off the movie. Anyways, I know I sound harsh, but the movie got an average rating of like, two stars ok? It's not just me. Anyways, that's all I have to say about that movie; don't go. Instead, go see The Dark Knight, which was pretty amazing (if you haven't already - but I'm sure you were going to anyways) that's all, I'm slowly catching up on my pictures! Kinokuniya Purchases :( I spent $150 today at Kinokuniya ;/ 18 other items aren't pictured 'cause they're going in swaps/packages for some flickr gals (; Anyways.. this was a total impulse buy 'cause I had an argument with my bf. I was really upset/pissed so I went to Kinokuniya just to see if looking at Rilakkuma/Korilakkuma items would make me feel better. I ended up grabbing everything I wanted&paid.. what sucks is that they don't accept refunds x: ahcrap. LOl The only things I regret buying are the sticker sheets and the magazines ahhhh! I adore the clear files(all new designs that I don't have)&the drawstring bags though. The event is going to have to be a "Bring something for Jay to cook/burn" kind of event, as because Mum and I have to save up as much cash as we can find to fund a BIG CHANGE that will be occurring soon (You'll see), we can't afford to get all the food. I will be supplying a few burgers, sausages, chicken legs, etc, but I will be relying on some of you to bring some food for me to cook for others. For those of you thinking "Hey! The council CAN'T do that!!" Sadly for mum and I, they can. It's being dealt with, and Mum and I are already in talks with Hounslow Council about finding a place near-by so I don't have to miss you guys. Let's face it, guys, the UK has fallen in to decline really bad recently, and honestly.. Who sees it getting any better? We're not allowed to smoke in our own pubs/clubs, yet the houses of parliament have a "smoking room".. There are hardly any jobs available anywhere in the country now.. The economy has gone insane, and fuel prices have gone through the roof (and will continue to rise). Immigration rules have gone out of the window, and we're now actually over-populated. The f*cking country is sinking. ... Alright, it's sinking REALLY REALLY slowly, but it's a matter of principle. If the land can't hold us, then there has to be something SERIOUSLY WRONG with our population, and the way the government runs immigration laws. Who here pays taxes? Who here pays a big chunk of their wages to the government? You really wouldn't want to know where most of that money is going now. Anyway, on a brighter note, this BBQ will be a no-holds-barred, fun-packed, music-blaring, drunken, J-Beat style piss-up Party that will ONLY HAPPEN ONCE. Solicitor fined for ignorring clients' letters - The Scotsman 7 January 2002 Solicitor fined for ignoring clients’ letters EXCLUSIVE Frank O’Donnell and John Robertson A SOLICITOR who ignored scores of letters from clients and the Law Society of Scotland has been found guilty of professional misconduct and fined ?5,000. Michael Robson, a solicitor for 26 years, was condemned by the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunalfor his “cavalier attitude” and told he could no longer act as a lawyer except under supervision. The Law Society of Scotland, which operates a self-regulation system for solicitors, began an investigation into Mr Robson, 49, after clients complained he could not be contacted despite repeated phone calls and letters to his office in Ratho, near Edinburgh. The tribunal heard that the solicitor, who has his own firm, Robson’s WS, ignored 50 letters from the Law Society. He was eventually brought before the tribunal, which is made up of lawyers and lay members. In mitigation, it was said Mr Robson had an exemplary record. After starting as a sole practitioner in 1998, he had experienced cash-flow problems and did not have proper secretarial support. The tribunal stated: “Regrettably the events recorded in relation to the present matters indicate that Mr Robson had a wilful disregard for the Law Society and its duty to investigate complaints. “The tribunal were also concerned by his cavalier attitude towards the Law Society and his disrespect for authority and susceptibility to improper influences, and it was with this background that the tribunal has directed a restriction on his practising certificate.” Mr Robson was restricted to acting as a qualified assistant for three years. After that period, he can return to the tribunal where “he would be expected to demonstrate he has a maturity and responsibility such as is expected of a principal solicitor in private practice”. Ian Laird, 53, from Foulden in the Borders, was one of those who complained. He had hired Mr Robson to act in a long-running complaint against another solicitor. Mr Laird said he was delighted with the decision, but added: “We need an independent body to investigate lawyers.” The tribunal itself has previously been criticised by the Scottish Legal Services Ombudsman for being too lenient.
