Pittsburgh Herrs Island Bridge B&O train 1974
Herrs Island in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was once a stockyard. Now it's being redeveloped for town houses. This bridge is now part of the Buffalo and Pittsburgh, a line owned by the Genesee and Wyoming operating company. At the time of the photo, it was a secondary mainline of the B&O, that headed north from Laughlin Junction on the Monongahela River through Panther Hollow and under much of Oakland in a tunnel, then to this bridge over the Allegheny River before turning north to the Buffalo and Rochester, NY areas.
