Area Rug Pad
- A rug that covers only a part of a floor in a room
- (Area Rugs) Rugs are also woven or felted from fibers, but are smaller than the room in which they are located, have a finished edge, and usually lie over another finished floor such as wood flooring.
- a rug that only covers part of the floor of a room; a carpet
- (Area Rugs) "Medium-sized rugs are ideal just about anywhere in your home or office. Whether you want to place them as an accent, or display them as a centerpiece, these rugs can meet any decorating need."
- Travel along (a road or route) on foot
- embroider: add details to
- Walk with steady steps making a soft dull sound
- a number of sheets of paper fastened together along one edge
- slog: walk heavily and firmly, as when weary, or through mud; "Mules plodded in a circle around a grindstone"
corners of our home - yoga corner
This is an area I identified in the first week as having potential. As you can see from the before picture I had been using it for a sewing area but it wasn't organised in any way.
So we moved this bookcase here and used it to hold yoga items. Although this isn't technically a playful learning space I have included it as I had a need for myself and this is how I have accommodated that need while still interacting with a small child.
We have, mats leaning against the bookcase (I have one for myself and I cut an old one down to a child size). Even though Jess is too young to be involved as such, it's useful for Jess to have her own mat (eg: stops her from climbing all over me, lol!). Next we have baskets to hold yoga books and DVDs, a small treasure basket to entertain Jess, bolster, cushions and rug to provide extra padding during postures, a 'dog' themed basket and books for Jess and a basket of various sized balls and small beanbags. I also have an oil burner here and ipod shuffle for times when Jess is asleep and I can meditate. I have found it is used as a quiet and peaceful corner and has helped to have some things on hand that Jess can readily access when I do my yoga practice. As this area is just outside my bedroom door it is generally our first stop in the morning and my last stop at night.
You have an open floor plan in the living/dining area. I sest you place the LR furniture as shown to help define the areas of that room. Putting a 5x8 area rug further defines the area.
Put your TV on a low table centered across the two windows. Treat those two windows as one large window and install colored/print curtains on either side with sheers in the middle. The sheers will help diffuse the light while watching tv.
It helps if you buy curtains to go on a traverse rod so that you can open and close easily. Another option is to put blinds on each window. What ever you do here at the double windows, do the same for the smaller window by the door.
Whatever you put on the wall near the kitchen door way make it a focal point as this is one of the first things seen as you walk through the front door. I sest a buffet because it gives you added storage.
The wall to the right of the front door is a good place for a bookcase for added storage or to display decor items.
If you can coordinate your chair pads (if there are any) with whatever you put in the living room. You want everything to flow nicely even though they are separate areas.
