Band Pass Filter Theory

band pass filter theory

    filter theory
  • Filter design is the process of designing a filter (in the sense in which the term is used in signal processing, statistics, and applied mathematics), often a linear shift-invariant filter, which satisfies a set of requirements, some of which are contradictory.

    band pass
  • (of a filter) Transmitting only a set range of frequencies

  • frequencies outside of a specific range are attenuated

  • A range of frequencies or wavelengths within which a component operates.

  • A band-pass filter is a device that passes frequencies within a certain range and rejects (attenuates) frequencies outside that range. An example of an analogue electronic band-pass filter is an RLC circuit (a resistor–inductor–capacitor circuit).

band pass filter theory - Classical Circuit

Classical Circuit Theory

Classical Circuit Theory

This book begins with the basic principles of circuits, derives their analytic properties in both the time and frequency domains, and states and proves the two important theorems. It then develops an algorithmic method to design common and uncommon types of circuits, such as prototype filters, lumped delay lines, constant phase difference circuits, and delay equalizers. The material also discusses the relation between gain and phase, linear and minimum phase functions, group delay, sensitivity functions, scattering matrix, synthesis of transfer functions, approximation of filter functions, all-pass circuits, and circuit design by optimization. This book fills a need for a modern text on the mathematical foundations of passive circuits in general and passive filter design in particular. The mathematical foundations are what classical circuit theory, which is the subject of this book, is all about. It is old, but it has survived the test of time and it is still relevant today because it is basic.

Rock on the Range is an annual rock festival played at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH. Rock on the Range is one of the biggest rock festivals in the Midwest and displays some of the most popular bands in alternative rock, hard rock, and metal today. Rock on the Range is always in mid-May, and is most well-known for having the first Stone Temple Pilots performance in 7 years, ending the band's hiatus.[1]
The first annual Rock on the Range kicked off on May 19, 2007. The sold-out festival ran all day, beginning around noon and ending a little after 11:00 PM. Due to such success from the first Rock on the Range, the second festival turned into a 2-day event during the weekend of May 17-18, 2008. The annual festival usually draws around 40,000 fans into Columbus Crew Stadium. Two stages are set up: The Main Stage is inside the stadium at one end of the soccer field, and the Second Stage is in the parking lot just outside the stadium. A limited number of guests are allowed access to the field.

After snooping around infrared photography on Flickr I decided I want me a piece of it, so I bought a filter on Amazon. Now that it's here, I'm struggling a little bit. All the pictures I take come out as monotone red.

My theory is that the IR blocker on my a390 is particularly potent, especially since this picture of the filament of a 100W bulb is just... red. One would expect a hot bulb to radiate a fair bit of IR light, so it must be that my camera is simply blocking it out.

This means that if I am to put my shiny new Hoya R72 filter onto my lens then I block out any wavelength below 720nm, which is still arguably in the visible spectrum. My IR blocker looks as though it's blocking out any wavelength higher than, oo, I don't know, 721nm?

I have a red camera.

Bugger no. 2

I went to the pet shop for some de-chlorination liquid and also to get a cheap filter that will keep the water clean. Changing the water every 4-5 days was getting tedious and the smell was unbearable every time I empty the tank. Anyway, while I was there, the shop just stocked up on new pets. One of them was a very cheap crayfish. It was going at RM2.50 and the colour was pretty. So here we go, a new companion for "bugger". Due to lack of imagination, I shall name it, "bugger no. 2". It took a instant liking to the new filter's "jet stream" and love sitting above it. Guess it's like a jacuzzi feeling for it.

Note: Bugger no.2 died 4days later. Sadly.

Filters of some sort are essential for extracting proper signals for most the electronic circuits. It is, therefore, in the interest of anyone involved in electronic circuit design to have the ability to develop filter circuits capable of meeting a given set of specifications. A novel approach has been made to realize floating inductor. The circuit implementation is based on the use of operational transconductance amplifier (OTAs) as an active element along with a grounded capacitor. The floating inductor requires 3-OTAs. The resulting inductance can be electronically adjusted precisely by varying external bias current accordingly. Different topologies of the filters are designed as per their need and the applications. Filters can be classified on the basis of response characteristics, components used, signals used, or mathematical approximations. The network of the 3rd and 5th order Chebyshev filter has been chosen and all the passive components, like resistors and inductors are implemented using the active device (OTA).

Well after the abismal few days ive had with my photos i thought i should brighten things up a little. Not what i had intended but i quite like the result with using the exclusion filter, plus i enjoyed the luminescence of the light layers i used! Anyway i have to apologise to everyone for not getting around to viewing your streams or checking out your new shots, things have been really out of control for the last few weeks and i really do hope to catch up with you all soon. On that note i have also decided today is my last 365............................., at least until i come back in two weeks from holiday! I have loads to sort out and i don't think it would do me any favours worrying about my shot for the day when i want to get everything sorted, i get major o.c.d when it comes to preparing for a holiday and being it's the first holiday ive had in two years and want my full attention on that! So excited, i was going to take my slr too but decided against it, after all it is a holiday and i have my compact which isnt too bad so that will do. Anyway thank you for looking at my stream guys will pop on every now and again in the next few days to hopefully see your work but until then, see you all soon, i should hopefully be sporting a nice tan or lobster burn when i start up again, fingers crossed! :)

Nikon SJ1 Speedlight Flash Color Filter Set

The SJ-1 allows for modification of the flash output to be matched to the background scene. This is especially useful for digital cameras where "white balance" can be controlled. For instance, when shooting with a flash under fluorescent lights the foreground will be white, but the background will still have a green cast. By using a green filter the flash output gets converted to match the rest of the scene, and the camera's White Balance setting can then be set to "Fluorescent". The blue, yellow, red and amber filters can be used for creative lighting control, and can add dramatic colors to the image, especially when more than one flash is used

The Roles of Scene Characteristics, Memory and Attentional Breadth on the Representation of Complex Real-World Scenes

This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSONAFB OH report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A227873. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: An accurate and detailed representation of the environment is presumed to help observers notice when an object moves or changes. Unfortunately, when change in the environment coincides with an interruption to the ongoing visual processing, observers are surprisingly slow to detect the change, if at all, The factors that play a role in the ability to detect scene changes in the face of interruptions caused by "flicker" are the focus of the research discussed here. Two experiments investigated the roles of intrinsic factors (e.g., attentional breadth, inhibition, perceptual speed, working memory) and extrinsic factors (e.g., change characteristics, scene context) in change detection performance with young and old adults participants. Results indicated that perceptual change detection was best characterized by attentional breadth and visuo-spatial working memory measures. To a lesser extent, perceptual speed was also associated with change detection performance, but the ability to inhibit irrelevant information (i.e., inhibition) had no detectable, independent relationship. Findings also revealed that change meaningfulness had a smaller impact on performance than did salience, especially for the older adults. Examination of eye movements indicated that early in their viewing of the scene, older adults landed on highly meaningful changes that were also of low salience; however, they were not able to explicitly detect the change.

This Item Includes: 1. UV Lens Filter 2. Polarizing Filter 3. Flourescent Filter 4. Filter Pouch 5. Nwv Direct Microfiber Cleaning Cloth. Lens filters are translucent pieces of glass placed in front of a camera lens to alter or adjust the light entering the camera and more importantly to protect the camera lens. Lens filters improve photographs by giving photographers control over light and allowing them to emphasize the features of a scene that they consider most important. This filter kit is a combination of the three essential filters no photographer should be without.UV--Film and a digital CCD are more sensitive to UV light than our eyes are. This often shows up in images shot from high altitudes and long distances especially over water. This filter will remove the UV light and more importantly protect your lens from moisture, scratches, and damage.Polarizer--provides color and contrast enhancement. Reflected light often shows up as a whitish glare that washes out color in an image. A polarizing filter will correct this problem creating deep blue skies. It also removes glare from non-metallic surfaces such as windows and water.FLD--provides color correction when shooting under fluorescent lighting. It will remove the greenish tint from the image, providing pleasing skin tones and true to life color renditions. Warranty:10 year manufacturer warranty. Made in Japan

St John River

The Saint John River (French: Fleuve Saint-Jean) is a river, approximately 418 miles (673 km) long, located principally in the Canadian province of New Brunswick but also in, and arising from the province of Quebec and the U.S. state of Maine. It forms part of the Canada – United States border in two different places along its length. The river drains an area of approximately 55,000 square kilometres (21,000 sq mi), of which slightly more than half is located in New Brunswick. Along that portion of the Atlantic shoreline of North America that lies between the St. Lawrence River and the Mississippi River, the Saint John River is the second longest waterway; only the Susquehanna is longer. The lower section of the Saint John River (extending from Fredericton to the City of Saint John) is nicknamed the "Rhine of North America" in reference to its popularity for recreational boating.

Circular polarizing filters reduce or eliminate unwanted reflections and increase the overall contrast of subjects in low-contrast situations Usually, light from the sky is polarized due to reflections and dispersions in the air. Circular polarizing filters cut these reflections, making the sky blueror intensifying colors. The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge spans the Ohio River between Cincinnati, Ohio and Covington, Kentucky. When the first pedestrians crossed on December 1, 1866, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world at 1,057 feet (322 m) main span.

In 1867 Roebling started design work on what is now called the Brooklyn Bridge, spanning the East River in New York. One day in 1869 he was standing at the edge of a dock, working on fixing the location where the bridge would be built, when his foot was crushed by an arriving ferry. His injured toes were amputated. He refused further medical treatment and wanted to cure his foot by "water therapy" (continuous pouring of water over the wound). His condition deteriorated. He succumbed to tetanus 24 days after the accident.

Roebling's son Washington Roebling and his daughter-in-law Emily Warren Roebling continued his work on the Brooklyn Bridge. His son Ferdinand expanded his wire rope business. His son Charles Roebling designed and invented a huge 80 ton wire rope machine and founded the town of Roebling, New Jersey where the John A. Roebling's Sons company steel mill was built. His grandson Washington A. Roebling, II perished on the RMS Titanic. His great-grandson Donald Roebling was a noted philanthropist and inventor who devised the amphtrack.

In 1831 John A. Roebling migrated from Germany, moving to Trenton, N.J. in about 1848, when he purchased some acres of land on South Broad Street where his new wire plant... John A. Roebling's Sons Co. Wire Works would be located.

His main focus was in producing wire for the telegraph, telephones, electric power lines, the newly invented elevator by the Otis brothers and the massive twisted cable for suspension bridges, the most famous being the Brooklyn Bridge, which he did not live to see completed in 1883.

My house and all the other houses on my block and in the area were designed and build by John A. Roebling to house the Roebling Wire Works workers and their families. My house was completed in 1863. The houses on my block are the last standing Roebling houses in the area... the others were demolished and the areas rebuild in the early 1900s.

Oldtown Alexandria Waterfront V.A.: dawn

Oldtown Alexandria Waterfront V.A.: dawn

A200/Tamron 18-250 Hoya MCUV filter, ISO200 > dcraw > Gimp with gradient blends & usm]

This was my original "blend". I started by brightening the center +80 and the contrast +75, the part away from center by about +40/+30 & blending with a bidirectional gradient in the middle at about 70% opacity. It came out slightly dark on the right in the middle yet with insufficient contrast away from center...

...it would be very-nice to be able to adjust the two layers and the mask independently and then see a combined version of them in real-time...

And to run a split mask in the middle and reduce the contrast on the right, but after a few attempts at that I gave up as it didn't appear to be worth the effort. Like I said it would be better to see these things before blending rather than after, I can only spend so much time & effort blending two layers on one image for Flickr. Just imagine doing this for an entire video. Literally I was just thinking of writing a 2D low-pass filter for this. Anyway on the bright layer you want to get the contrast in the ballpark, a little low and get the brightness a little high because the blend is going to darken and increase the contrast of the light parts and of course adding more contrast after the blend will make them that much darker and blow-out the highlights & shadows that much more. But the point is that with insufficient contrast the midtones will look pasty and gray and the whole shot looks fake. Obviously that can be overdone to the point where it is overcontrasty and fake, as well. So it's a balance.

Try starting with a linear shot, a raw conversion with no contrast added and the gamma set to 1 ;)

Or try it with two different exposures of the same shot, say one generated with H0W and H7W (with dcraw) and then use a threshold mask and an amorphous gradient blend ;)

This is begging to be done with a "smart" filter, really. But it's why I think the best approach is to just shoot it to expose the highlights properly and then rescue the shadows with a gradient blend, not use a complicated HDR tool and multiple exposures. If it's shot so that the highlights are slightly blown-out but the shadows are better-exposed, and then the shadows are rescued with H7W in dcraw (or the equivalent in your favorite RC) and you try to blend an H0/7W exposure set, then the shot will be slower and less stable. Plus that's a fine line to walk while you're in the field. It's easy to look at the LCD and see if the sky is blown-out, if not all the highlights. That's where I would start, maybe minus half a stop or so, as there will be saturated sections that are not "highlights", like in the above where the sky is saturated red in places. Pushing those will change the color entirely. Oversaturation is another reason why I don't like to shoot to the right even if the camera is noisy in the shadows, and you shouldn't need a meter to tell you what is happening to the highly-saturated parts of the scene if the scene has over 3 stops of DR and the overall exposure is near 0eV according to the camera meter. It is all a balance between the advantages of a certain technique and its negative consequences, in this case you have to balance blowing-out the highlights and getting a flat, dull result with getting noisy shadows and midtones and a shot that is full of crud. So this is one more reason to bracket even if I'm going to end-up throwing-away a third of the shots right there and another 3rd or more once I get home. And obviously if more than one exposure is used and it's not perfectly-aligned, then the edges will get softened by the blending process. So I always work from just one exposure and now I clone it to different layers, push them around, add contrast and blend. You can go from there to doing selective editing on each layer.

The problem of course is the idea of doing all this editing on thousands of shots, even if it can all be done fairly-easily by hand, which in general is far from the case. It simply is not easy to automate vignetting, CA & geometry-correction to the point where it is well-optimized for each shot. Not to mention if you don't hold the camera properly or crop or rotate the shots before processing, not to mention correcting the lighting and doing NR if you want to go that far. It *is* however easy to rip-off a half-a dozen thousand shots with average post-processing especially if you're happy just shooting jpegs. And in the long run, guess which really matters the most: excellent IQ on a handful of shots or good average performance over years of use. Especially when, let's face it: "excellent", for digital photography, means "a decent representation of what we would see if we were there". You're just not going to match, much less "beat", a view of the real thing with a camera, much less a digital camera. If you're lucky it'll be "decent". Sometimes even "impressive&qu

(Note: Various features are labelled with rectangles and notes if you pass the cursor/mouse over the photo)

Not a photo of Star Wars inter-galactic lightsabers, but a test long exposure night scene using a custom version of the Slow Shutter Cam app on an iPhone4. Looking northeast across Lake Burley Griffin. A cloudy night with a full moon in a city location with lots of background light, so much of the desired star trail detail in the sky has been lost. Still, it was a success in terms of a test of the long exposure. This app effectively stacks video frames, keeping the brightest pixel between the current stack and the new frame. A spring-loaded mount for the iPhone 4, obtained from Photojojo, was used to mount the camera onto a standard camera tripod.

The photo features a moon trail, partly obscured when clouds intervened. Various aircraft light trails were captured - the multiple trails towards the lower left relate to aircraft climbing out of Canberra Airport (across Lake Burley Griffin, behind the building), and some faint NE trails for aircraft at high altitude passing overhead en route from Sydney to Melbourne. The bright NW trail is from Jupiter, whilst the lighter trails are from various bright stars. The bright trails along the lower left edge are from vehicles, including some blue and red lights mounted on top of emergency vehicles.

Barton, ACT, Australia.

The photo was taken on an iPhone4 using the Slow Shutter Cam app in Light Trail mode (and Bulb exposure time length) - my thanks to Cogitap Software for their excellent customer service, willingness to provide help, and for making a custom version of the app available that included the feature that I had requested. The exposure length was approximately 12 hours! Some small spots were attenuated using TouchRetouch. A trapezoidal crop was applied using Genius Scan. Noise reduction was applied using Perfectly Clear. Some local tone mapping was applied using DynaLight HD. A further crop and some minor lighting adjustments were made using Filterstorm Pro. A blue (upper) black (lower) dual gradient filter was applied with Photo Fx Ultra.

I have found various iOS apps useful in this pursuit, notably FlightBoard (listing aircraft arrival and departure times for any airport), Pocket Universe (showing the stars, planets and satellites that will be visible in the sky, including a neat animated time lapse movie option), and Skyview (which has a Virtual Reality feature that allows you to point an iPhone camera towards an object in the sky and the app will tell you the name of the object).

have you ever wonder: - what is a cauliflower?

have you ever wonder: - what is a cauliflower?

The plant in the picture is also Arabidopsis thaliana. What happened to it? It is a mutant called ap1 cal. ap1 stands for apetala, and cal for cauliflower. Both are genes that are mutated in this plant.
ap1 is necessary for the plant to produce petals, and the absence of cal causes uncontrolled proliferation of the growing tissue that should produce flowers. It just grows and grows and grows, but never differentiate in proper flowers. As a result, the plants produces these little green 'cauliflowers' instead of flowers.
The interesting part of this story comes now. The common, edible cauliflowers are also undifferentiated "flowering tissue" of a plant called Brassica oleracea. But also cabbage, brussels sprouts and other vegetables are the same species. Humans have selected the plants with bigger edible parts and have grown them for many generations to get these varieties. But looking now in the Cauliflower genome, we can see that it has the same mutation than the little mutant cauliflower-weed, but "naturally produced" many many years ago and then selected, instead of being GMO.
