The Story:

I decided to bring my camera to work on Wednesday and took it in a rush, not noticing that the lens I had attached was the Sigma 10-20mm wide angle. My original thought was to take some portrait-like shots of the musicians who play at IFC mall during lunch time. I did my best to take some shots with the 10-20, but between the poor lighting and the distortion I wasn't very happy with the results. In the end, I ended up with a shot of a violin player but the background was extremely cluttered and noisy and the picture looked.., for a lack of a better word...., boring.

I played around with selective color, making the whole thing B&W and keeping the violin at the original color. However, this also didn't work for me. The main thing I liked about the photo was the musician's left hand and the position of the fingers during a very climatic part of the performance. Thus, I started playing around with the filters. When I stumbled across the Glowing Edges filter I really loved the fact that it took out most of the background and provided the outline of the violin and the player. Additionally, most fo the color was contained in the violin which to me really exressed the feel of the musical sound waves and made me remeber the sounds of the performance. This inspired the name for the photo as this effect made me feel the energy of the musioc without the sound. The only additional processing involved some cropping and cloning of the black background to remove some additional clutter / noise.

This is a handheld HDR of the main building at Hofmansgave (same place as yesterdays "sun rays" shot). It is a cropped vertical shot, so the size is somewhat different than usual, since I normally post two images side by side when I do vertical shots. I had the ISO set to 400, since this was handheld. I really don't have anything to add about the history of this place, so if you want more background info, read yesterdays image information.
