Plantation Here is a view of some ruins of a “plantation” home from 1830’s. There is a very nice resort built on the grounds of the original building. This resort is just North of Atlanta in Adairsville, GA. I visited there this past Saturday for the first time in 15+ years. The resort wasn’t there when we went there the last time. A lot of changes. (6) Main Bathroom Third room to be decluttered. Got less chucked out than I wanted, to be honest. Most of the bathtoys are still well used, so it seemed a bit heartless to do a major cull - Might need to rethink storage of them though. Why is it that purply colours don't photograph well? In some of the images it looks almost pink, in others blue - none of them are the colour the bathroom actually is. I've noticed before that purples can be a bit dodgy... You can't tell well from this photo - but we've got carpet in the bathroom - I hate it. Next savings goal is to get a cheapish offcut of wood-effect lino just to make the room a bit more hygenic. Day 174: My bathroom blinds I take this picture a lot when cleaning my sensors. I do it in the bathroom 'cause it's the least dusty room of the house (because of the steam), and so I need to take pictures at extremely small apertures to see what's still on the sensor to clean. To make it easy to tell if it's sensor dust or dust on the blinds, I move the camera during the picture so the things that aren't moving along with the camera won't be blurry and everything else will. This was basically the only picture I took today, because I was lame. I auto-curve-adjusted it, too, which made the colors all crazy. bathroom blinds Sure, there are other talking clocks out there. The Moshi Voice Control (VC) Alarm Clock, however, is not a talking clock. The Moshi VC Alarm Clock is the first 'listening clock' that allows you set the time and alarm by your voice alone. With the Moshi Voice Control (VC) Alarm Clock, you can ask for the time while getting ready in the bathroom, set the alarm or turn off the alarm without moving from the comfort of bed, and know the current temperature all the way from the closet. No more small buttons and no more impossible programming. Just speak, and Moshi listens. We believe that you should be able to control your electronics and not the other way around. With the Moshi VC Alarm Clock, you are in complete control by using our voice activated commands. Simply activate Moshi by saying, "Hello Moshi". FIRST UP CANOPY PARTS - GROMMET SILK DRAPES. First Up Canopy Parts
Stonecrop blossoms up high Stonecrop growing up at the 6,500' level of the viewpoint saddle on Three Fingered Jack, in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness of Oregon. I placed my wrist watch in this flower photo to give the viewer an idea of "scale". [Sedum oreganum] or S. divergens or S.spathulifolium. I feel good if I get the genus right. STORY: Monday August 24th, 2009 I drove from my home in Eastern Washington down Oregon highway 97, and then turned right through Sisters, Oregon and up to a trailhead at Jack Lake in the Mt. Jefferson wilderness. The plan was to take Hike # 28 [Canyon Creek Meadows - the 7.5 mile loop] in Sullivan’s “100 hikes in the Central Oregon Cascades” book, at dawn Tuesday morning. Then I hoped to do Hike # 20 [Jefferson Park - 10.2 miles round trip] Wednesday morning. The last six miles of the dirt road up to the Jack Lake trailhead was rough washboard, so it made for slow driving. I got there just as dark set in on Monday night and crawled into the bed in the back of my canopy equipped pickup truck. The wind was blowing. Even though it was almost dark, I could see a major forest fire had swept the area. There were only two other vehicles parked at the trailhead and I could see a “camp light” across Jack Lake. I woke up in the middle of the night and exited my truck canopy bed for one of those camping exigencies. I was treated with one of the most beautiful views of a night time sky, complete with the Milky Way, which I haven't seen in quite some time. Beautiful. A forest ranger arrived at the trailhead at around 6 am to check the wilderness permits at the trailhead register and clean up the trailhead latrine. After I saw him leave, I got up and got ready to hike. The first part of the Canyon Creek Meadows hike is pretty pedestrian - through the forest (both burned and a portion that survived the fire). But once I reached the lower meadow and got my first of Three Fingered Jack, I knew this would be a great hike. Note: The B & B forest fire as it was called, burned nearly a third of the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness Forest in a spectacular 2003 event. Remember though as you see the burned forest, that some forests can not regenerate WITHOUT fire, so it is part of a natural process that has been going on for millions of years, before man started trying to “control” natural fires AND started starting unnatural forest fires of his own. Following the guidebook’s instructions, I climbed the rounded terminal moraine mounds that dam the canyon that forms the mountain cirque lake (suspended glacial silt - aqua marine). Then I hiked the lateral moraine path along the top of the moraine ridge and up to the high saddle “viewpoint”. From here you could see Mt. Washington and the Sisters to the south, and Mt. Jefferson looming to the north. Also a nice view of the fire lookout topped cinder cone, called Black Mesa. I took off my day pack and lingered at least a half an hour at the saddle viewpoint. It had taken me two hours to reach that point. It would take me an hour and half to complete the trail loop and arrive back at my truck. Back at my truck, the thought occurred to me that I had plenty of time left for a 10 mile hike to Jefferson Park (Hike # 20 in Sullivan’s book), so I decided to drive back to the town of Sisters (a cool clean nice little town), where I had seen a forest ranger center on the way in. I wanted to pick up a good Mt. Jefferson Wilderness map and get the latest trail info from a forest service ranger. Well folks, the next hike turned out to be not nearly as good as the Three Fingered Jack hike. After buying the map and spreading it out in front of a nice lady ranger, I pointed out the Woodpecker Ridge trail. It seemed to me, that though I would hike a bit further and might not reach Jefferson Park, that this route would allow me to do at least three miles more of the hike, along the Pacific Crest Trail. I asked if the views of Mt. Jefferson along that portion of the PCT were good. The ranger said “yes” (she was wrong). I asked about the crossing of Russell Creek, shown as potentially dangerous on the map, and we both agreed that the water level shouldn’t be that high or bad (we were both wrong). I asked about the road, FR40, leading to the trailhead of Woodpecker Ridge Trail (Trail 3442). The lady forest ranger said that the road was good (she was right). I sat down in the forest service center and looked over the map well, then made up my mind that I would hike the Woodpecker Ridge access trail 3442 to the PCT then hike north as far as I could make it toward Jefferson Park, turning around, no matter where that might be, to make certain I could return to my truck at the Woodpecker TH by dark. I went back up to the counter and let the lady ranger know of my decision (always good to let somebody know where you are). It was exactly two in the afternoon, when I arrived at the Woodpecker Ridge Trailhead. The trail sign had been vandalized, so I had to get out and look closely to make c ridge trail up from cirque lake Suspended glacial flour makes a wonderful reflected color for tarns and lakes. I'm always reminded of Peyto Lake in the Canadian Rockies, which is a large lake that carries this color. Taupe Velvet home theater Curtains / Drapes / Panels Curtain Length: 100 Inches Luxuriously soft to the touch! Rich, full color and smart styling will bring warmth, welcome and a handsome elegance to a room! Velvet curtains have a luxuriant, rich look and they are heavy which is great for keeping the light out and the heat in. Velvet refers to the soft, furry covering on deer's antlers and velvet-effect material is produced from woven fabrics made with cotton or man-made fibers such as polyester. Velvet has a soft, deep pile which feels almost furry when you brush hand over it and gives depth and richness to the color with strong contrast between light and dark. Velvet curtains are ideal for bedrooms as they do keep the room completely dark when they are drawn. (14) Shirley Luong All my life, I’ve resided in Flushing, Queens without ever acknowledging the rich history of this historical neighborhood. I believe that the background of Flushing has truly been lost in oblivion over the past decade. For example, located on Northern Boulevard at the end of Main Street is one of the greatest treasures of Flushing, the RKO Keith’s Theatre. It was perhaps the most gracious of traditional movie palaces in New York City, with its luxurious interior and marvelous architecture. According to the Flushing Freedom Mile panel, the theatre opened on Christmas Day in 1928 throughout the mid-1980s. Architect Thomas Lamb used the Mexican Baroque style to design the grandiose building. Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Mae West, and other popular entertainers of the day played the Keith's. The ticket lobby and grand foyer of the Keith’s were listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and granted landmark status by the City in 1984. Although the RKO Keith’s Theatre still stands today, it is only a sleeping and deteriorating structure and a ghostly image of its past. Before learning about the history of the building, I would always pass by it on my way to or from home and grimace at the crumbling exterior and pitiable maintenance. It always gave me disturbing vibes since it looked like a haunted theatre, like something out of “The Phantom of the Opera.” I learned that the unfortunate fate of the building resulted from corruption under poor management after it was bought off by Tommy Huang in 1986. Huang announced plans of demolition in order to have a mega mall built in its place. After much controversy, Huang filed for bankruptcy in 1996 and for the past 20 years, the RKO Keith’s Theatre remains a neglected thorn on the side of Flushing. After learning about its tragic history and choosing this undeniable eyesore as the subject of my project, I am determined to revive the reputation the former prominent Flushing theatre deserves. My goal would be to transform the RKO Keith’s Theatre into a performing arts center to honor its storied past and to entertain the community once again. The newly-renovated theatre would feature all kinds of performing arts, from dance to opera, from every culture in order to serve the multicultural residents of Flushing. This project would amount to $100 million, to remodel the exterior, interior, walls, ceiling, main stage, and the carpeting. Red and gold will dominant the theatre as they were the initial colors Lamb built it in. During the evenings, the exterior of the theatre will project rich reds and gold beams of color against the ivory marble building, which will highlight a luxurious flowing “drapery” that is actually carved into the facade. To evoke a feeling of grandeur, the interior of the theatre will be adorned in more ivory, silvers, gold, and reds, such as the carpeting and the draperies and paint on the walls. The ceiling will hang an enormous downward-spiral chandelier that will light the room with splendor. The spacious semi-circle performance room will have every visitor in awe with the elaborate colored light fixtures hidden on the ceiling and the opulence of the plush deep red velvet cushions. A grand stairway will dominant the lobby, built with granite stone complemented with a gold with silver lined railing, contrasting a scarlet red carpet laid against the stairs. The elaborate design of the theatre would contrast with its cluttered and primitive surrounding, making it the centerpiece of the Flushing neighborhood once again. My biggest goal in accordance to the revitalization of the RKO Keith’s Theatre will be to influence the residents of Flushing to appreciate the rich history of the neighborhood and to explore its roots, discovering what amazing things it has to offer. Orpheum theater @Downtown L.A. ORPHEUM THEATRE 842 South Broadway G. Albert Lansburgh, 1926 In 1926, this grand theater became the fourth and final home of the famed Orpheum vaudeville circuit in Los Angeles. As at his earlier Broadway Orpheum (now the Palace), architect G. Albert Lansburgh again employed a French theme inside the theater, this time executed in the full-blown grand manner. Polished brass doors, lush brocade drapery, silk wall panels, marble pilasters, and enormous chandeliers all contributed to an atmosphere reminiscent of the Paris Opera. Throughout the years, the Orpheum has hosted some of the greatest entertainers in show business including Eddie Cantor, Sophie Tucker, Will Rogers, Jack Benny, Sally Rand, and Lena Horne. The last of the great theater organs remaining on Broadway was installed at the Orpheum in 1928. This 13-rank, three-manual Wurlitzer organ has metal and wood pipes than can simulate more than 1,400 orchestral sounds. Now restored to working order, it is lovingly cared for by the Los Angeles Theater Organ Society. In 2001 the Orpheum underwent a multi-million dollar rehabilitation under the supervision of owner Steve Needleman. The venue currently is a rental facility for special events and location filming. home theater drapery Attention to detail and polish defines your approach to boardroom presentations. Thank god they are cheap gas station sunglasses, so it wasn't to traumatizing. I went to Wal-mart at lunch just to see if they had anything and found these bad boys. I felt like I was an old man with these on and a HUGE DORK to boot, since several people were walking past giving me odd looks for taking selfies in Wal-mart. LOL. I hate that this came from the iPhone but I don't think I will have time for much anything else as I am supposed to work tonight and wont really have time to do a cool shot with the D80. (12) Lesbia Weeping over a Sparrow Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, the painter of "Victorians in togas", was one of the most successful artists of the XIX century. He was internationally famous and so immensely popular that scarcely a middle-class Victorian drawing room was without at least one print of Alma-Tadema's painting. Yet a few years after his death he was all but forgotten. Laurens (later he changed to the more English Lawrence) Tadema was born on 8 January 1836, in the small village of Dronrijp, which lies about 3 miles to the west of Leeuwarden, Holland. He was the sixth child of Pieter Jiltes Tadema, a notary. It is unclear when and why he affixed the name Alma to his last name, probably it was the name of his godfather. His parents wanted him to become a lawyer and Laurens was enrolled at the gymnasium of Leeuwarden. Although Laurens was a good student, he always wanted to be an artist and, with great enthusiasm he tried to pursue both courses. This caused a significant decline of his health that his doctors even predicted he would die shortly. His mother decided to allow him to spend his remaining days doing what he enjoyed most, to paint. But happily after that he recovered completely. This marked the beginning of a new period of his life. In 1851, he went to Antwerp to study in the Antwerp Academy, where he was taught first by Gustave Wappers and then by Nicaise de Keyser. He left the Academy in 1856 and continued to study art and also took up the history of Germany, early France and Belgium under the guidance of Louis de Taye, the Professor of Archaeology at the Academy of Antwerp. Faust and Marguerite (1857) was painted as a result of these studies. In 1859 Alma-Tadema became a pupil of Henrik Leys, joining his studio in Antwerp. In 1861, Tadema's picture The Education of the Children of Clovis (1868) was exhibited and became a success. In 1862, Alma-Tadema left Leys's studio and started his own career. The period 1862-1870 is called his Continental period, he established himself as a significant contemporary European artist. His main works were of classical genre, dedicated to Ancient Egypt: An Egyptian Widow (1872) and Greek and Roman history: A Roman Family (1868), An Audience at Agrippa's (1876). In 1870, Alma-Tadema moved to England, where he was to spend the rest of his life. He became one of the most famous and highly paid artists of his time, acknowledged and rewarded by the fellow artists as well as by the governments of the European countries. In 1879, he was elected as a full member of the Royal Academy of Arts and in 1899 was knighted by Queen Victoria. Among his most famous works are An Apodyterium (1886), Spring (1894), The Coliseum (1896), The Baths of Caracalla (1899), Silver Favourites (1903), The Finding of Moses (1904), A Favourite Custom (1909).AlmaTadema died in 1912. With its scientific name dianthus roughly translating to "flower of love" or "flower of the gods", depending on the source, this flower is one that has been revered for centuries. One of the world's oldest cultivated flowers, the carnation is appreciated for its ruffled appearance, clove-like scent, and extended blooming period. The carnation's history dates back to ancient Greek and Roman times, when it was used in art and decor. Christians believe that the first carnation bloomed on earth when Mary wept for Jesus as he carried his cross. Carnations in these early times were predominantly found in shades of pale pink and peach, but over the years the palette of available colors has grown to include red, yellow, white, purple, and even green. Throughout so many centuries of change, the popularity of the carnation has remained undiminished. The fact that the carnation continues to endure is a testament to its vast appeal. The meanings of carnations include fascination, distinction, and love. Like many other flowers, different messages can also be expressed with the flower’s different color varieties. Light red carnations, for example, are often used to convey admiration, whereas the dark red version expresses deeper sentiments of love and affection. White carnations are associated with purity and luck, and pink carnations are often given as a sign of gratitude. In the early part of the 20th century, carnations became the official flower of Mother's Day in addition finding particular significance in many other cultures worldwide. To this day, carnations remain a favorite flower choice for many different occasions. They are immediately recognizable flowers, and they possess a charm and allure that continues to captivate people around the globe. In fact, in many parts of the world, the popularity of carnations surpasses that of any other flower including roses. The powerful sentiments these flowers can express are a perfect compliment to their classic beauty and long-lasting freshness. By retaining its status as a floral mainstay for such a long time, the carnation has proven itself to be a lasting flower in more ways than one. Double Garage Door Screen (13) instinctual apprehension. when we pulled over i instantly felt frightened, like people were hiding in those thick trees that obscured the house, smiling while simultaneously aiming loaded shotguns at my face. there was a path lined with recyclable plastic containers that lead through the trees to the front porch steps, i walked towards them tensed with extreme caution. i stood at the foot of those stairs for several minutes, quiet & still, scared & confused. i looked around in all directions, trying to catch a glimps of whatever it was that made me feel so surrounded. it felt as though there were people all around me, standing right next to me even. i would here sounds like shoes kicking through the trash on the ground, things seemed to move from secret vantage points just out of range of the corners of my eyes. but i saw no one. the house was very obviously abandoned. cobwebbed & dust-caked & rotted & grown-over, all the trash & clothes & housewares & personal mementos heaped into careless piles all over the front yard & porch, trademarked to the way most abandoned houses are decorated. it was abandoned, no one had lived there in ages, it was obvious. but i stood there on that front porch & hesitated for a century looking at that doorknob. i felt eyes on me, peering at me through frayed curtains. i was sure, almost positive, that i'd find a room full of sinister strangers waiting for me behind that door. they were all huddled together in there, waiting as quietly as they could, containing themselves like some kind of wicked surprise party. i was so sure those people were there that i knocked on that fucking door. i knocked with my knuckles & choked out an uneasy "hello?", which sounded so ridiculous in my ears that i immediately discarded my seemingly misplaced caution & reached out for the old doorknob. my eyes saw nothing to indicate a threat, it was intangible & therefor did not exist. i was being stupid. i twisted the knob, it rattled & the door gave easily. i pushed it half open & looked in at the living room, stunned still for a moment by an instant spike of anxiety, thinking in my gut i'd see the strangers seated there in the mismatched couches & chairs. i saw no one. i entered a few steps & froze there in that living room. i didn't explore the house any further. my feet had turned to stone. something landed on my chest heavy like a cinder block. something was terribly wrong. i stared wild-eyed like a stray cat at those couches & chairs, feverishly scanning them over & over again, looking for those seated strangers, they were there among the garbage & my eyes were somehow unable to catch them. the insticnt was heavy & overwhelming, they were there. but i couldn't see them, there was no evidence, my eyes couldn't verify the notion that gripped my mind. it was confusing to all my senses. it was terrifying. i was standing like a statue in the front doorway facing a long hallway lined with doors all open a crack, the hallway ended with a door & wound left at it, & from around that corner there was a sound growing faintly louder, a sound like weakly running water, a drizzling sink faucet or a leak in the roof letting rain in, landing on a soft plastic surface with a dull dripping drone. i felt certain that around that corner there waited a flesh-&-blood creature, seeking the perfect second to pounce & attack. the thing i feared about that hallway wasn't the thought that i'd find a person at the end of it, it was the fact that i'd find nothing at all. there were people all around me & i knew it, & somehow my eyes were blind to them. the threat was powerfully real, & it had the advantage of being invisible. my legs became agile then, & i was suddenly moving with the speed & precision of an animal escaping danger. i turned my pointed toes towards the door & all but leaped out onto the screened porch, carrying the doorknob with me in my tightly gripped fingers, securely shutting the danger inside behind the closed door. i began to walk quick & silent down the stairs but stopped dead in my tracks when i heard a noise from behind me. it was the soft metal rattling of that doorknob, turning. i turned & sharply focused my eyes on the door as it swung open fast & stopped suddenly after opening only a crack, just big enough to fit your face through, to see in (or out). a tiny bomb went off in my head & sent shockwaves down my spine, turning me feather-light on my feet as i raced up the steps & took hold of the doorknob again, slamming it tightly shut, wearing an expression almost like outrage, like a prank was being played on me that had gotten old. i scowled at the splintery white door hoping that whatever was behind it could see how out of patience i was, then turned & made my escape through the trees, down the path, to the empty street where my car waited, exhail Lincoln Cathedral INTERIOR has vaulted west porches with C14 blind
