Steel Blades and Blower

Toronto has been hit by successive snowstorms and unusually cold weather in February 2008 ( a few Alberta low pressures, called Alerta Clippers, as well as Texas low pressures that travelled up the Ohio Valley).

The "snow banks" (snow piles) became higher and higher, blocking traffic and reducing parking space, as well as making it difficult for people to cross the street.

Finally the municipal government had to call in the giant snow blowers and dump trucks to remove the snow and dump it into Lake Ontario. This series of pictures show how snow removal is done. It's an expensive and time-consuming operation. The project would take about one week, and cost 3 million Toronto tax payers about CAD $20 million (Eur 13 million, USD $ 20 million, GBP ? 10 million).
