Kloster dining room
AMBIANCE: B -..... Very good
There’s a nice outdoor patio. The dining simply decorated. The wooden tables covered with white and black linens with gold runners. The rest rooms are very pretty with lots of flowers.
The restaurant has a private free parking lot which is rare.
There might be an upstairs terrace, but I don't know if that belongs to Kloster or another restaurant.
Really obscene. Maybe ok for US fondue … but the most expensive restaurant I’ve dined at in Guatemala … expensive by a WHOLE bunch.
I spent nearly $150 for three small fondues, the Caesar salad, a small crepe (really a taste each), one beer, coffee and cold drinks. That was pretty close to US prices and out of line with Guatemala. Had I taken the group even to a top restaurant like Panza Verde and everyone ordered a beverage and entree, the bill would have been less than that.
Seriously, anyone wanting to get a taste of the 1970’s … come to Antigua with its fern bars, carrot cake, cocktails like Black Russians … and fondue.
Kloster was not bad, but there should not have been items like the iceberg lettuce and wrong bread … especially at a fondue place. Had they paid attention to those details, I probably would not have minded the prices as much. After all, how many places these days have the tableside service as entertainment value.
The crepes Suzette and coffee were top notch, so if I was taking someone out for something different, I’d consider Kloster for dessert.
