Anonymous has been a big supporter of this demonstration. This particular Queens-based Anon told me he was happy to get away from the keyboard and meet up with other like-minded people who are actually out doing something. He was angry with the NYPD for pushing them into Zuccotti Park ("out of sight") and was getting bored with what he called "Ghandi" tactics of sitting around instead of being seen and heard.

Casanova Brown

Casanova Brown

A picture of Gary Cooper gurgling with fatherly pride and busying himself in vain confusion over a cooing infant's care is not one most likely to glimmer before the average movie-goer's mind's eye, For Mr. Cooper is not the type of fellow you would normally suspect of mushiness. Yet that is precisely the picture in which Mr. Cooper is involved in "Casanova Brown," a mild farce-comedy, which came to the Music Hall yesterday. Let those who prefer Mr. Cooper in more cir cumspect roles beware. But let those who are suckers for a new gag have an eye-opening look for themselves.

New gag, did we say? Let's change that to an old gag in modern dress. For the gag which is pulled in this picture is as old a one as there is in the comedy book. It's the one about the shy young fellow who gets himself matrimonially involved and suddenly discovers that he is holding a darling infant without benefit of nurse—or wife. So he undertakes the problem of care in a masculine way Man-versus-diaper, they call it. Always good for laughs.

In this case, the laughs at Mr. Cooper making goo-goo eyes at a tot and furrowing his brow in anxiety because the infant has shockingly belched are supplemented in some measure by well-planted laughs in other spots, particularly at Frank Morgan as a testy potential father-in-law. Nunnally Johnson, who fetched the screen play from "Little Accident," an old stage farce (which itself was based upon a novel, "An Unmarried Father," by Floyd Dell), has built up the gags about the baby within a slightly more adult plot, and has given the best of the wise cracks to Mr. Morgan, a far from gentle soul.

As the father of a girl whom Mr. Cooper is engaged to (but doesn't wed) he whips out some acid witticisms regarding sentiment which are sharply to the mark. In contrast, Mr. Cooper's somewhat obvious and ridiculous clowning over the babe takes on a silly complexion. Mr. Morgan clearly has the upper hand. Teresa Wright plays the baby's mother (a girl whom Mr. Cooper loved and lost) in conventional lace-and-satin manner and Patricia Collinge plays her mom, a flighty dame, as though she were trying to find some meaning in a thoroughly inconsequentle role.

All in all, there is so much endeavor with so little subject in this film that one is exposed to the impression that anything went for a laugh. Laughs there are, but the action loses content and reason on the way. A tremendous amount of talent went into a childish film. Since this is the first production of International Pictures, a new firm, let's call it a start at the literal beginning and hope for better next time.

CASANOVA BROWN, screen play by Nunnally Johnson; based on the play "Little Accident" by Floyd Dell and Thomas Mitchell; directed by Sam Wood; produced by Mr. Johnson for International Pictures. Inc.; released by RKO Radio Pictures. At the Radio City Music Hall.

Wild Wonderful West Virginia

Wild Wonderful West Virginia

West Virginia is without doubt one of the most overlooked and under-rated states in America. It is a southern state that reaches into the North, and an eastern state that touches the Midwest. Formed out of the state of Virginia, during the Civil War, West Virginia is a rugged land of mountains, rivers, and hardy independent-minded people.

With fewer than two million inhabitants, West Virginia is one of the less populated states. However, locals jokingly say that if you could iron out the rugged terrain it would spread out as big as Texas. I lived in West Virginia for a year when I was in my twenties and fell in love with the state then. I've returned for visits many times since living there and it remains one of my favorite corners of America.

This view is of farmland adjacent to Cathedral State Park, in the northeastern part of the state.

It is just one of the many pre-depression structures found on the US-12 roadway in Detroit.

Though it is abandoned and in disrepair, the structure still retains its beauty. Of note architecturally are the facial reliefs that finish off graceful columns that flow down from the elaborate roofline, to create a frame for the bay window and corner window. While not much is known about the history, "John Ciagle Lawyer" is still displayed prominently in an upper floor window. Dar-pol Travel once operated out of the Michigan Avenue storefront.

This bell was rang many times for those who have died at the hands of illegal aliens. However, the list is too long to read them all. On average at least 25 Americans die each day from actions of illegals. An estimated 40,000 since 2000, a number that would make 9-11 seem small.

I am not blaming all who are here illegally. I am blaming the government. Had the immigration laws been enforced so many would have lived, including my son.

WHY...

WHY...

the long face Kachina ?

they want to slaughter (they call it hunting) my brothers and sister wolves of Idaho and Montana.
what happened to the word kind in humankind?

Try to be kind; a world filled with kindness is a nicer place to live.
~Urgelt

from Defenders of Wildlife website:
More than a hundred wolves were killed the last time the Bush Administration lifted federal protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies this past spring. Now the Bush/Cheney Administration is once again eliminating vital federal protections for these wolves.

Defenders is already calling on the incoming Obama Administration and Congress to overturn this eleventh-hour attack on our wolves. And our lawyers are preparing immediate legal action to challenge the latest delisting of wolves in the Northern Rockies region.

from the NRDC website:
In a cruel parting shot before leaving office, the Bush
Administration has stripped wolves in Idaho and Montana of their
Endangered Species protection -- leaving them at the mercy of
two states that are gunning for them.

Hundreds of wolves are effectively on death row. As soon as the
hunting seasons begin and "Open Fire" orders are issued, state
officials and hunters will fan out through Greater Yellowstone
and Central Idaho in search of an animal that should be on the
Endangered Species list.

NRDC is racing to court to stop this slaughter before it can
begin.

As you know, this is the second time that the Bush
Administration has removed federal protections from wolves in
the Northern Rockies.

Last spring, more than 110 wolves were brutally killed in as
many days. The wolf-killing rampage only stopped after NRDC and
11 other conservation groups prevailed in federal court --
thanks to your support!

We must win again -- because the plight of wolves has never been
more dire. Yellowstone's wolf population has already declined,
as wolf pups die of a yet-to-be-determined disease.

The bottom line is: Greater Yellowstone's wolves urgently need
and deserve federal protection.

thanks everyone...
let's put the pressure on our representatives to stop the de-listing.

“Success tends to go not to the person who is error-free, because he also tends to be risk-averse. Rather it goes to the person who recognizes that life is pretty much a percentage business. It isn't making mistakes that's critical; it's correcting them and getting on with the principal task.”

Stuart - GPN Model

Stuart - GPN Model

Interesting evening tonight.
I went along to a GPN meeting.
(Gay Photographers Network).

A lovely chap, Gaz, was demonstrating studio light with big Bowens studios strobes along with a variety of softboxes, beauty dishes and grids.

And helping out was the chap you see in the picture here, Stuart. Who very patiently and kindly modelled for everyone for each style of set up.

I couldn't give accurate lighting info, being unfamiliar with the lighting system.
But above and camera right was a beauty dish pointing down at the model. And a background light was off camera left slightly behind to get that light running down his arm.

The point, and my favourite part, was managing to get that lovely dark triangle under his chin.

Processing: Only my favourite three layer de-saturation technique. It didn't need much else.

A good evening.

Drug trafficking suspects Jorge Joseph, Joseph Tecson and Richard Brodett

Drug trafficking suspects Jorge Joseph, Joseph Tecson and Richard Brodett

Prominent drug suspects dubbed as the " Alabang Boys, " (L to R) are Jorge Joseph, Joseph Tecson and Richard brodette on their way to a congressional hearing at the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs , House of Representatives, Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

In a related updated news clipping from The PHILIPPINE STAR dated April 21,2009 by Perseus Echeminada as stated:
' ALABANG BOY ' pleads not guilty in drug case
A member of the socalled " Alabang Boys" pleaded not guilty of illegal drug trafficking before a Quezon city regional trial court yesterday.
Judge Jaime Salazar of Branch 103 set the pre-trial of the case against Joseph Ramirez Tecson on May 18.
Tecson, together with Richard Brodette and Jorge joseph, were arrested in a series of drug busts by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency last Sept. 20.
The charges were initially dismissed by the government prosecutor but the decision was overturned by Malacanang, which ordered the filling of the case.
The cases of Brodette and Joseph are still being raffled off at the Mandaluyong regional trial court.
During yesterday's hearing, Salaza also ordered Tecson's transfer to the Quezon City jail pending the resolution of his case.

Updated on line news from MANILA BULLETIN dated July 24,2009 by Ellson A. Quismorio as stated:
The camp of Richard Brodette, one of the so-called " Alabang Boys, " nabbed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for alleged drug peddling, on Friday said it sees a good chance that the accused would be allowed to post bail.
Brodette's lawyer Felisberto Verano Jr., said this following the hearing Thursday in the sala of Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 204 Judge Juanita Guerrero which tackled the rebuttal for the bail petition.
In the hearing, PDEA agent Jigger Juniller testified that he acted as "poseur buyer" or undercover buyer during the buy-bust operation last September 20 that arrested Brodette and his alleged co-accused Jorge Joseph and Joseph Tecson.
But Verano, after digesting Juniller's nearly two- hour testimony, said the latter " admitted " that he did not see any drugs during the conduct of the operation.
"That's what he said. He did not see anything, of buying drugs, " claimed Verano, insisting that their petition for bail was even strengthened by Juniller's account.
The PDEA operative's testimony could even be used to bolster the " Alabang Boys " case during the trial proper, Verano said.
For his part, PDEA Chief Legal Counsel Alvaro Lazaro said taht their witness " was able to narrate in a straightforward manner what transpired during the buy-bust operation."
As such, Lazaro said Verano deluding himself into believing that PDEA would actually present a witness that would do any favors for the defense, let alone " bolster their case."
I think Atty. Verano had too much to drink. he's hallucinating, " Lazaro said.
The next hearing on the bail petition has been set on August 16,2009.
PDEA alleged the Alabang Boys have links with the Valle Verde group, which allegedly supplies illegal drugs in Manila, Baguio City and to a larger, international syndicate that peddles through the internet.
