Traditional Elegance - Flowers and Butterflies

I was so happy when I was asked to make a cake with flowers, butterflies and the color pink. What a classic combination, and a great opportunity to practice making sugar flowers. Cake is french vanilla with strawberry buttercream. Flowers and butterflies are made out of gumpaste.

Sugar Flowers

There were approximately 170 roses, Cymbidium Orchids, Hydrangeas, Lilies, leaves and buds all around the cake. I just kept making them, thinking I would have WAY too many and I'd just keep them as spares, so was completely shocked when I ended up using pretty much ALL of them!
