Dobry wieczor panstwu!

Zapraszam panstwa na najnowszy film Malgi Kubiak „Gay hell at Dante Cafe' porazka wampirow (2007). Tytul filmu jest jedynie aluzja do filmow o wampirach. Ale podkreslam tylko aluzja. Byc moze nawet do slynnego filmu Romana Polanskiego „Bal wampirow”

W rzeczywistosci film ten nie nawiazuje do zadnego klasycznego tematu wampirycznego. Milosnicy popularnych filmow o wampirach moga byc zawiedzeni, ale nie do konca. W koncu wielkie filmy o wampirach byly najczesciej bardzo madrymi i gleboko ludzkimi filmami. Mowily cos o czlowieku i jego naturze, o jego glebi i jego demonach. Przypomnijmy chocby filmowe arcydziela: „Nosferatu – Symfonia grozy”' „Nosferatu – Wampir” Wernera Herzoga (zapatrzonego we Friedricha Wilhelma Murnaua) oraz przepiekny i poetycki film „Wampir” dunskiego tworcy Carla Dreyera (autora slynnego filmu „Meczenstwo Joanny D'Arc”).

Juz sam tytul jest wizytowka Malgi Kubiak. Napisany jest w polowie po angielsku a w polowie po polsku. Od razu widac, ze nie jest to film tradycyjny. A mowi wiele. Choc film jest nakrecony w Polsce, to czesto realizowali go tez artysci spoza Polski. Zdjecia robil James Lancaster z Londynu jako jeden z operatorow. A scenografie (a takze zdjecia) stworzyl ksiaze Nikolai Galitzine. Muzyke napisali muzycy z Londynskiej i Nowojorskiej sceny undergroundowej (Alan Vega z NYC, Steve Morell z Berlina, Sebastian Oberg ze Sztokholmu /Flash Quartet/, Andreas Brandt...)

Wejdzmy wiec do swiata wampirow. Nie dajmy sie zwiesc kostiumowi wampira. W rzeczywistosci wchodzimy do swiata Malgi Kubiak. Film ten rowniez w tytule nawiazuje do mitu Dantego, do Piekla (gay hell) do „piekla gaya”. W koncu to szatan wydaje bal w salonie Le Madame. Wyrazne nawiazanie do slawnego juz warszawskiego klubu.

To wlasnie na balu wampirow poruszane sa podstawowe, egzystencjalne problemy zarowno dla sztuki (czym jest jej istota) ale przede wszystkim film opowiada o zyciu, i to o zyciu prywatnym samej Malgi Kubiak. Na balu mistrzem ceremonii sa dwie krolowe wampirow, grane przez Danute Kubiak i Megii Solkowska. Czy krolowe ocala pewne wartosci? Czy poniosa porazke? Czy ocala Malge Kubiak? W roli pierwszej krolowej wampirow wystapila matka rezyserki, Danuta Kubiak, 80 letnia schizofreniczka, malarka, ktora „gra” znakomicie i nad wyraz przejmujaco, bo gra siebie. Daje ona dla filmu i swojej corki, cala siebie, cale swoje istnienie.

Problematyka calej epopei podsumowana jest przez znamienne zdanie slynnego pisarza Williama Burroughsa. „Kazda gra jest niebezpieczna. Wszystkie gry sa zagrozeniem. Iluzja to rewolucyjna bron” z ksiazki „Electronic revolution”.

A jedna z najwazniejszych mysli jest zdanie „Czy Poeci klamia?”. Byl motyw matki. Teraz motyw ojca. Malga Kubiak jest corka, znanego poety Tadeusza Kubiaka. Jezeli poezja jest „gra”, to raczej nie moze klamac. W filmie duzo jest przewrotnosci. Wampiryzm, „Realne to nie dokumentalne, a nawet „paradokumentalne” - jak to sie najczesciej pojmuje. Sa watki autobiograficzne, ale inaczej potraktowane. Ale proba podsumowania jakiegos etapu zycia jest oczywista. Problematyka w warstwie spolecznej mowi o Polsce. Prawdy sa trudne, ale jest duzo zatroskania o jej los. Ale sam dyskurs jest metaforyczny, wrecz przyrodniczy miejscami. Realnosc jest na kazdym etapie. Jest tam pelnia zycia. Erotyzm i seksualizm jako srodki wyrazu, ktore maja swoje uwiarygodnienie w przedstawieniu pewnego zamknietego swiata. Film w koncu opowiada tez o srodowisku gayowskim. My husband had always wanted to do Sphereing, so as part of his birthday present I bought him Harness Sphereing for Two. Thought it would be good to share the experience.
Not quite sure what to expect, we arrived at the site to see two massive balls in a field. After completing the safety brief we were able to spend a short time watching what was going to happen to us before jumping through a hole to get into the sphere. Once strapped in, we were off and began our descent down the hill. We started to pick up speed finally coming to a stop at the bottom. It was a really weird feeling but very exhilarating. Luckily after getting out of the sphere we did not have to walk back up the hill allowing us to get our breath back! We both really enjoyed the experience – thanks!

Velcro Flash Mod

A little...very little in fact...velcro modification I did to my Vivitar 285HV. I'm not entirely sure how well this will work on other flashes, but it works well on this with the lip.

I got the idea from a post that some one put on the strobist group about a similar item you could purchase for $10. I had a roll of the velcro straps that we use to bind network cables at work and cut off a piece to fit around the flash. You just have to make sure you pull it tight when fastening it so it doesn't slide around.

And there it is, a very cheap way of adding velcro to your flash that will not leave residue. I'm sure some one out there's probably tried this before or mentioned it.

I had to leave one edge of the blanket open to put the beanbag pellets inside. I used an applied binding to close it up after I got the pellets in. This is also another view of the hook edge of the velcro, with its protective flap.

The birthday girl.. Aunt Beverly is more than just an aunt to us.. she's my mom's sister, who never married and lived with my grandfather until he passed in 1989. She's done so much for us and never asks for anything in return. She watched us when we were growing up whenever mom and dad went out for dinner or were away for the weekend. Lisa and I gave her the nickname "The Warden".. what we thought was strict back then, we now know was loving concern for our safety while she was on watch..

She lives a simple life. She worked in the textile mills until they shut down, then moved onto assembly line work at the cardboard plant. She retired five years ago and stayed retired for about three months.. she hated it. she went back to assemply line work, but now at a plastics plant, working third shift. She's a night owl and actually prefers the third shift.

She comes to our house almost every day to have coffee with mom.. she stocks Lisa and me up with anything and everything that is on sale at Stop & Shop.. I never go back to DC with an empty trunk.. She sends me notes with a five dollar bill folded inside as well as coupons she thinks I will use. She takes good care of us.. She's always there when we need her..

Dakota adores her.. Every single time she comes into our house, Dakota goes beserk.. aunt beverly always has treats in her pocket for him.. she also babysits him while mom and dad are away.. she buys him a new toy weekly.

We love her dearly. Happy Birthday Aunt Beverly.

garage sale scores...

we had a garage sale today.. one of those community ones. during ashton's nap i walked around our own neighborhood and found some things. a tape cassette player/recorder/karaoke ($1), a vintage (1970) playskool wooden hour glass(50 cents), and a wooden insect puzzle (25 cents). can't beat that right? ashton loves them all, especially that hourglass. that was an unexpected hit.

we had hoped to sell some of our large appliances that have been sitting in our garage since we moved in (we updated). no takers but we still managed to score $65 on random junk lol! i guess next step is craigslist.

i also listed my 24-70L and 15mm fish eye on craigslist and only got one hit. he never called back after i sent images taken with the lenses so i guess i will have to ebay them. i didn't want to. i hate ebay and paypal fees. oh well. lol. i'm this much closer to getting my 35L back!

As you guys know, it's so hard not to spam photos of a new doll especially a hunky piece of resin with that nice smiling-smirky face looking at me with those mesmerizing eyes~ And i just have to give in... XP

These photos are taken at night with "artificial" lighting using my Canon digital camera so some photos may appear a bit washed out~ but i doubt any1 will be paying attention to the lighting anyways.... LOL!

I finally managed to slip this piece of V-neck top that i bought from Iplehouse on Jaden and i liked how it turned out! ^_^ I also bought the pair of black boots and ring watch from eBay and it's just how i picture it on Jaden's wrist although its a bit too small on his muscles~ xp.. He is also carrying a drawstring bag which i bought at a local value store. It is perfect for Jaden when he goes gym-ing. And last but not least, i made that necklace specially for him.. XD

Vintage Seiko (66-0010)

Although this didn’t turn out quite how I intended, I do rather like this picture, particularly the way I’ve captured light on the dial and the watch case.

I’ve been playing around with shadow in my watch and razor pics, and what I was after was a more graduated change from lit foreground to darkness at the top of the picture. I certainly did not intend on having a band across the picture. Having said that, it does give contrast to the silver case around the winder, and it does draw your eye to the watch. Sometimes you spend hours taking junk photos, then some days the photo gods smile on you; you make technical errors but still walk away with a usable shot.

I have a King Seiko, but don’t wear it because this vintage Seiko 66-0010 is my favourite. It’s thinner and more elegant. I don’t like those angular designs they put on high end watch cases – just to make is scream high end.

The dial of this watch is different in every type of light. I know I can get a bit obsessive about this type of thing, but I can sit staring at it, completely hypnotised.

It’s a great timekeeper too, just outside of COSC – it will lose between five and six seconds in 12 hours on my wrist, and gain between three and five when left face up overnight.

I have a watch fetish. On the left, this Longines was given to me by my grandfather a long long time ago. This is a simple wind-up watch, original leather band (as original as it was when it was given to me) What I love about it is its mechanical nature, unlike all the modern battery powered, this marks seconds with continuous movement, smooth and all.

On the right, my current wear. The brand is Nixon, yes, like the President. No, I don't know if it's connected. This is a present from my Wife for our most recent wedding anniversary. Nixon sells watches and other accessories that are a lot hipper than I can pretend to be. This Nixon watch has a name: The Dork. And it has a gimmick: press the button and it tells the time. Sometimes using the voice of Tony Hawk (or so they say, I've never heard the voice of the original Tony Hawk).

UPDATE: Damn! Our home was broken into the other day and, as a result, the two end watches (the Movado and Cartier Panthere) were stolen. Fortunately, they were insured; but going through the "insurance game" is a pain in the ass.

Our insurance tried to not pay, citing we weren't married. DUH! We can't do that in WA state YET! However, WA states has strong Domestic Partnership laws (called "Everything but marriage"). Scott's tenacity and pit bull-like frustration at a hegemonic system seems to have prevailed. They are going to allow the claim and reimburse us (at a lower, depreciated rate, of course).

I suppose I should be happy. I am a little. I mean, so the watches were stolen. Big deal. I can always go buy a new one if I want. It's more about the fact that insurance companies try to deny people who are in committed, loving relationships who don't have the same rights are their heterosexual counterparts.

R71 (in WA State) is now more important than ever!

I must have taken 50 + shots of these damned watches. I can't believe how difficult it was. It seemed no matter how I placed them, in whatever kind of light, I just couldn't capture what I really wanted to get. It's really amazing how every damned scratch seems to be magnified!

Anyway, this is my collection thus far. I actually just bought another one but it hasn't arrived yet., I'll be sure to post a photo for all you watch enthusiasts. Both of the end watches I bought. The center one was a gift from my husband.

Video Contruction Update - Sept 28

Watch the video to see the latest construction updates to the Genesis Centre of Community Wellness. The 225,000 square foot, $120 million multi-purpose complex is scheduled to open January 2012 - built to enrich the health, wellness, and unity of communities in Northeast Calgary.

The Genesis Centre will include two indoor field houses, an oversized gymnasium, several community multi-purposes spaces and boardrooms, a community kitchen, and three outdoor soccer fields. In addition to traditional sport and recreation activities, the Genesis Centre will be capable of hosting a wide range of social, cultural, and corporate events. The facility is also shared with the Saddletown YMCA and a branch of the Calgary Public Library.

This was Elkin's first time playing an actual game of soccer so as you can see, he wasn't always sure what to do. Him and another boy his age looked a bit confused.

High-spirited high jinks on Christmas Eve put Frank Cross (Bill Murray) in a ghostly time warp in this hilarious take-off of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Cross, who has made the meteoric rise from the depths of the mailroom to TV network president, is mean, nasty, uncaring, unforgiving and has a sadistic sense of humor - perfect qualities for a modern-day Scrooge. Before the night is over, he’ll be visited by a maniacal New York cab driver from the past, a present-day fairy who’s into pratfalls and, finally, a ghoulish, seven-foot headless messenger from the future.

Most critics couldn't get behind Bill Murray's modern retelling of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, finding it too unfocused at times and not nearly wicked enough. Still, if you're a Murray fan, you have to enjoy his deliciously nasty portrayal of the world's meanest TV executive, who has his cathartic moment one cold Christmas night in New York City. The various ghosts lead him on a ghost-town tour of Manhattan, with stops at holidays past, present, and future and a Kumbaya moment when Al Green and Annie Lennox sing "Put a Little Love in Your Heart." The effects are otherworldly, but one wishes the writing were as sharp as Murray's edgy portrayal. --Marshall Fine

Boxing trainer and manager who produced four British world champions

Terry Lawless, who has died aged 76, after a gall bladder operation, will be remembered as one of boxing's outstanding managers and trainers, having guided four fighters to world titles and watched two others become world champions after he had parted company with them.

His was a career that blossomed in the 1970s and 80s, in a promotional alliance with Mickey Duff, Jarvis Astaire and Mike Barrett, when Lawless became one of the most influential and respected figures in British boxing history.

His world champions were the welterweight John H Stracey, flyweight Charlie Magri, light middleweight Maurice Hope and the Scottish lightweight Jim Watt, but his name will also be forever linked with those of Lloyd Honeyghan, who became world welterweight champion after splitting with Lawless, and particularly Frank Bruno, whose career he moulded with painstaking care before they split prior to "Big Frank" winning his world heavyweight title at the fourth attempt in 1995.

It can be something of a boxing cliche to say that a trainer treated his fighters like his own sons, but few can have offered more in terms of emotional and physical support.

With his wife of 53 years, Sylvia, he would often take fighters into his own home before major bouts, reasoning that nobody was capable of attending better to their needs and that they would be mentally and psychologically honed to perfection by the time they stepped into the ring.

Lawless was born in West Ham, east London, and was a boyhood friend and later best man at the wedding of Sammy McCarthy, who would go on to become British featherweight champion.

Although Lawless never boxed himself, it was a friendship that inspired an involvement with boxing that saw him first work as a trainer and then, after completing his national service in the mid-1950s, take out a boxing manager's licence.

He and Sylvia ran a shop in Leyton, which he continued to own after boxing, but it was the Lawless gym above the Royal Oak pub in Canning Town in London's East End where he achieved his fame, employing such figures as Jimmy Tibbs, Frank Black and George Francis to work as his training team and cornermen for the fighters he managed.

Small of physique, quietly spoken and polite, Lawless had an encyclopedic knowledge of the boxing world, with a remarkable memory helping him assess fighters, their strengths and weaknesses.

He managed dozens of fighters in his career and, in addition to his formidable list of world champions, he masterminded the careers of the likes of Mark Kaylor, Kirkland Laing, Gary Mason, Horace Notice, John L Gardner and Jimmy Batten, as well as many of more limited ability.

For all of them, he was always a calm and compassionate cornerman whose concern was, above all, his fighters' safety.

Lawless's greatest work was probably in developing the strong but raw novice Bruno into a fighter of world renown.

His critics said he matched him too cautiously, but the regular appearances of Bruno on BBC Television ensured that his fighter earned a place in the sporting nation's heart even if the calibre of some opponents was questionable.

His partner Duff spoke of Lawless in his autobiography saying: "Terry's attitude to opponents was simple.

He wanted to impose a condition that they could defend themselves, but couldn't hit back.

He worried about his fighters if there was nothing to worry about," but Duff conceded: "I don't think anybody could have done a better job in Bruno's formative stage than Lawless did."

Their association ultimately led Bruno to earlier cracks at the world title, as for instance the second attempt, when he took on the then intimidating figure of Mike Tyson in Las Vegas in 1989, only to be stopped in five rounds.

Although the Lawless-Bruno partnership had broken up by the time Bruno achieved his lifetime's ambition in winning the world title, the fighter was distraught at hearing of his former mentor's death.

Watt, now a commentator with Sky, recalled a phone call he received from Lawless in 1975 shortly after Stracey had won his world title in Mexico.

Disillusioned by the lack of success in his career, Watt was told by Lawless that he could achieve more if he signed with him.

"That one phone call just completely changed my life," said Watt, who would win the world title four years later. "If Terry hadn't picked up the phone that day, I'm not under any illusions, I would never have been world champion."

Lawless's career was not without controversy, and he had to face a British Boxing Board of Control hearing after details were made public by the Sunday Times and News of the World of a profit-sharing contract that existed between Lawless, Duff, Astaire and Barrett.
