Plant Closed
Nothing is being shipped or produced anymore here in this factory, located in Southern Ontario. Yet closing plants and kicking workers to the curb is always justified by CEO's. After all, their only concern is to maximize the return on their shareholders investment. Sounds like a good plan, right? One problem. Now the unemployed can't afford to buy goods and services while most investors have seen the value of those shares drop in half. Nobody wins. Its lose/lose ... super plan guys.
Note: For every factory job lost, 7 more full-time jobs in the local economy are eliminated.
Published in an article on unemployment.
Angels No More
The economic recession is having an impact on angel group investment strategies. Angel groups’ 2009 strategies include increased investment in portfolio companies, preferences for co-investing, less appetite for new deals, fewer anticipated exits, and a predicted increase in both quantity and quality of deal flow.

NYC: American Stock Exchange
The American Stock Exchange (AMEX), a mutual organization, owned by its members, traces its roots back to colonial times when stock brokers created outdoor markets to trade new government securities. The AMEX started out as such a market at the curbstone on Broad Street near Exchange Place, with the curb brokers gathering through even the harshest weather conditions. By 1900, millions of dollars' worth of securities were being traded in the streets. Brokers began renting rooms above the street, where they could receive telephone orders and call down to their curb. As trading activity increased, the shouting reached such a high level that special hand signals had to be introduced. In 1921, the New York Curb Market, as it was called then, moved indoors inside and the hand signals remained in place for decades even after the move. In 1929, it became the New York Curb Exchange, and moved its current facilities in 1931. It was not until 1953 that it officially became the American Stock Exchange.
The American Stock Exchange is the only primary marketplace in the United States for both equities and derivative securities. The Amex trades more than 900 issues on its primary list. The Amex trades options on 30 broad-based sector indexes and more than 1,000 domestic and foreign stocks, as well as Long-term Equity AnticiPation Securities® (LEAPS®) on 116 stocks. In addition, the Amex is a leader in listing warrants on foreign currencies and indexes as well as hybrid instruments and other structured products. AMEX's core business has shifted over the years from stocks to options and Exchange-traded funds, although it continues to trade small to mid-size stocks. In 1998, the American Stock Exchange merged with the National Association of Securities Dealers (operators of NASDAQ) to create "The Nasdaq-Amex Market Group" where AMEX is an independent entity of the NASD parent company. After tension between the NASD and AMEX members, the latter group bought out the NASD and acquired control of the AMEX in 2004.

February 9, 2011
Hey Tasha,
So I've been thinking about this "loosing all my friends to foreign countries" business and I'm thinking it's gotta stop. So now Mel's leaving for Ecuador and I'm just wondering if that means I have to write letters to Melissa now or if she will just start commenting on yours. I know she reads them because her facebook picture is totally the last one I put up of us four. It's not intentional, but so far every one has had a photo of either you me, Mel, or Katie! I'm going to keep posting a few letters tonight since I missed a few in January.
I'm almost done at the Art Institutes! I'm stressed but I invested in a giant wipe off marker-board calendar that has me task mastering like mad. I'm really glad that by the time you come visit I'll be done with classes and you will have my full undivided attention! I can't wait for summer on water street, getting out of the river just long enough to get a drink.
love ya girl, oh and I hope you like the quote on the chalkboard. You know what that's from.
love,
Mel.
I'm writing you another one. Keep checking back.
Like A Bad Girl Should - I
The Cramps - Like A Bad Girl Should
I love your ass for bad or worse
I love your nasty way you curse
When you sit down, it's wild how you sit
Grind your heel in the ground, the groovy way you spit
Ooh, you look good, ooh, you smell good
Ooh, you taste good, like a bad girl should
When I need love, I love how you feel
When I need dough, I love how you steal
I love your sick way you think
The way your perfume makes you stink
Ooh, you look good, ooh, you smell good
Ooh, you taste good, like a bad girl should
I love your boots, your fancy clothes
Your bouffant hair, your pantyhose
I blow a gasket for your pink jellybean
Your picnic basket splits my spleen
Ooh, you look good, ooh, you smell good
Ooh, you taste good, like a bad girl should
Bad, bad, bad, bad girl, bad, bad, bad, bad girl
Bad, bad, bad, bad girl, bad, bad, bad, bad girl
