Boarding

Orderly fashion, my ass!

They boarded the plane from the front AND back entrances simultaneously. The middle-section of the plane quickly turned into a giant clash of grumpy, sweaty tourists who had entered through the wrong entrance and now had to fight against the tide, oversized carry-on luggage in hand, to find their seats.

Once we took a big mental-step-back from the annoyance and frustration of the situation, we realized it was actually quite hilarious!

Oh vietnam airlines.....

ps: last Vietnam picture EVER! (...unless I go back sometime.)

Watchman: violent, aggressive, bad-tempered, B.I.G lifestyle

Watchman: violent, aggressive, bad-tempered, B.I.G lifestyle

Prior to becoming a Christian I was a very violent and aggressive young man.

I was bad-tempered and ill-tempered; I failed to retain composure and restraint when angry.

I would lose it and use it, contrary to scripture be angry and sin not; (Ephesians 4:26).

I would be angry and sin a lot.

On account of my perpetual behaviour and my notorious B.I.G lifestyle, I am now left with a criminal record amongst a string of convictions, escalating from Handling to Assault; three of which was on Police Officers. Boy, I remember it like it was yesterday.

Walking down Camberwell New Road I got approached by the feds, just one of those routine checks, you know what I mean!

Anyway, as one of the officers steps towards me he gets just that little bet too close.

I happened to be standing right in front of an edge, as I step back I lose my balance; reflexes kick in and my arms shoot out in the hope to prevent me from falling backwards. I've now just gone and grabbed the officer pulling him downwards to the ground with me.

It was an accident, I swear but it sure wasn't taken that way. Before I knew it we were both rolling around on the ground like two kids in a playpen; by this time things were in full swing, literally.

The officer took a swing at me. In self-defence, I swung back knocking the officer out cold. I could go on but its long; you get me.

I have been charged with Actual Bodily Harm (ABH) and Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) with intent, defined by law as a serious physical injury inflicted on a person by the deliberate action of another. Accompanied by intent, however, indicates a determined aim or plan to murder.

I have escaped large sentences, not because I was at large but on account of charges been dropped due to insufficient evidence or the fear to give evidence (False Evidence Appearing Real) because of reprisals, not to mention, Divine Intervention.

The pressure was too much for my parents who eventually threw me out of the family home. I ended up in a hostel in Peckham it was a six bedroom house but soon I was the only tenant left.

The truth is, I beat up everybody in the house.

The Housing Association refused to re-house me; instead they said I could keep the house. I had a six bedroom house all to myself with the Right to Buy.

If I knew then, what I know now, I would have bought the place. I had girls in every room and they were my girls.

I would go from one room to the next until my soul was settled down for the night. Soul Tie, that's another story right there!

Stitched up!

I was just one insecure brother unsure of myself, doing what insecure brothers and sisters do whilst trying all we can to fill that void in our superficial lifestyle.

However, when I became a Christian I began to analyse and look over my life in the hope to add scope and somehow make some sense of my past nonsense, and why it was, that I did, what I did. I wondered, if it was because as a youth I was stitched up, framed by the police right outside my family home in Brixton. Two plain clothes Police Officers (PC H*** and S**** J*******) pounced on me out of nowhere like two hungry hyena that hadn't eaten for days.

After a bit of a struggle on my part and radioing for backup on theirs, they finally bundled me into an unmarked police car. On my arrival at Brixton Police Station I was quickly marched to an awaiting cell, were I was to spend the next few hours of my day.

After smiling for the camera and having my fingerprints taken I was stripped, searched... humiliating to say the least. It was then that I was charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place, a blue, it may have been green handled 6inch Dagger (Knife).

To cut a long emotional story short, I went to court, was found guilty and was remanded at Brixton Prison. I will never forget the words spoken to me at the time of my arrest by those two Police Officers.

You know you never had it, we know you never had it, but you Brixton boys think you're hard. If that wasn't the answer to why I was the way I was, maybe it was because I couldn't read or write.

I'd heard somewhere, Many times rage is fuelled by the inability to turn thoughts into words.

I learnt to read in prison, by continuously reading the Bible. I learnt to write by copying my girlfriends handwriting when she used to send me letters.

Look! Whatever the reason for my disposition Satan was trying to take my life.

It was whilst in custody awaiting trial, the Lord spoke to me through Ezekiel 3:17 Son of man, I have made you a Watchman for the House of Israel, therefore hear a word from my mouth and give them warning from me!

On hearing this word, with tears in my eyes, looking up to Heaven, I said Lord I dont understand. I closed back the bible and opened it again.

This time it opened onto Ezekiel 33:7. To my amazement, it read the same as the above passage of scripture.

Since his conversion, he has been cursed and struck in the face turning the other cheek, onl

Phil Mellman

Phil Mellman

"I said, 'The court has violated every principle that is American.'"

1922. The nation had not seen such a sustained, concerted attack against a legal, if dissident, organization as the one directed against the IWW. Wobblies were assaulted by local police, company gunmen, and vigilantes. Federal troops patrolled the timberlands of the Northwest, raiding and occupying IWW halls, breaking up their street meetings, and holding them in bull pens beyond the reach of civil authority. By 1920, twenty states at the behest of employers had enacted criminal syndicalism laws, aimed primarily at the IWW. In 1922 and 1923, two hundred and sixty-five were arrested in California alone under that act. A life-long Wobbly, Phil Mellman, one of those convicted in California, spent three years and eleven months in San Quentin. "They said we could apply for a pardon. I refused. I said the State of California should ask us to pardon them."

From the set: " Portraits: Social Activists of the Last Century."

Ontarios Official Flower: the Trillium

Ontarios Official Flower: the Trillium

Jan 28th 2011, Expendable/Control/Fear

I don't know whether it has been a Platonic philosophy that defines the individual as expendable. Maybe it has come from the Communist Chinese, perhaps from people taking the ethos behind slavery and redefining them as service to a greater power alone. Come what may, the snakes and parasites of commerce seem to be getting their way with what has been cherished by all Civil Rights groups for hundreds of years. The death of the individual (and of the individuals' rights and freedoms) in favour of cheap and even criminal commerce seems to be in order, along with the dwindling of numbers of our Provinces' flower, the Trillium and the disappearance of bees.
In the past week, several human rights violations have been aired upon our local news channel (CTV). I have just seen a perfectly beautiful young woman on TV, who has appealed through media services about a Human Rights Commission decision. It appears that she shaved her head in solidarity with a relative who had cancer. Working as a waitress, she was wearing scarves or wigs to hide the baldness. In Ontario, many people shave their heads to donate to a cancer drive; it is very standard and an act of humble charity. What happened is that the restaurant owner fired her, saying that the shaved head was inappropriate. The Human Rights Commission , when appealed to, claimed that a person could be fired if the business did not like their looks. This kind of bizarre social prejudice has been condemned by just about all Canadians for nearly fifty years, and it is unheard of.
Earlier in the week, the same CTV aired an article about the death of human privacy, and of freedom of speech. A man who worked as a childrens' athletic instructor was fired for writing something fairly mundane and civil in the companys' Facebook. After the terrorism in the US, leaving six dead, and many wounded, including a congresswoman, this man had written that the congresswoman was "awesome", and only a mildly conservative Democrat and that terrorism like this must, of course, be addressed, seriously, by the law.
The organizations' director subsequently fired him for espousing an opinion that was slanted. Even though most people would see this as a regularly instructive moral opinion, and would most likely share the sentiment, adding (in Canada) that tighter gun regulation was in order, the company claimed that it was their business policy to espouse no opinion one way or the other, so the man was fired. He was rehired, however, but he had gone to the press. If the press does not back freedoms of speech and of the press it might as well drop dead.
During this same CTV article, a young woman, when interviewed, said that there essentially was no freedom of speech in industry; business owners or management are allowed to read even private facebook entries, in order to estimate their employees' concepts and directions, probably in case of industrial espionage. Apparently one does not dare discuss any polity nor spiritual endeavour without becoming subject to cries of 'inappropriate', or to actual discriminatory procedure.
Having gone through a proven case of employment discrimination made by Ontario government, and after seeing what a waste of time the chuckleheads are who support wrongful endeavour by some of its employees, because they were born to incestuousness and the steaming slum of rightist bigotry as if it were a silver spoon held to their nose, and because people are "there", to do with what they wantonly will, I could, literally, wite a book about the insanity and illegality of government process.
Today, I am willing to bet that there is more than one actual Nazi in Ontario Human Rights, or the system just does not support real civil rights cases anymore.
Our Bill of Universally held Human Rights is no more than "there", to pick and despoil, probably by the same people who have uprooted the trilliums and eaten the bees. What next - agreed upon flogging in the streets, so some politicians' fatuous wife can sufferless form diabetic frigidity?
So, go ahead, feel free to read this, too. I's posted in public because youa re the same people out there; industrialists who steal, torture and condemn the very people whom you have immiserated. Some of you enjoy our earnings that you've sufficiently theived for the purchase of large amounts of guns and weapons. You can't stop all of us decrying your right to keep somepeople down, all of the time. You'll never stop humans form evolving in civil and moral ways, rather than to march to your primitivism and either techno or realistic cannibalism, either.

Chainsaw Boy

Chainsaw Boy

On April 25, Gregory Despres arrived at the U.S.-Canadian border crossing at Calais, Maine, carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chain saw stained with what appeared to be blood. U.S. customs agents confiscated the weapons and fingerprinted Despres. Then they let him into the United States.

The following day, a gruesome scene was discovered in Despres' hometown of Minto, New Brunswick: The decapitated body of a 74-year-old country musician named Frederick Fulton was found on Fulton's kitchen floor. His head was in a pillowcase under a kitchen table. His common-law wife was discovered stabbed to death in a bedroom.

Despres, 22, immediately became a suspect because of a history of violence between him and his neighbors, and he was arrested April 27 after police in Massachusetts saw him wandering down a highway in a sweat shirt with red and brown stains. He is now in jail in Massachusetts on murder charges, awaiting an extradition hearing next month.

At a time when the United States is tightening its borders, how could a man toting what appeared to be a bloody chain saw be allowed into the country?

Bill Anthony, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said the Canada-born Despres could not be detained because he is a naturalized U.S. citizen and was not wanted on any criminal charges on the day in question.

Anthony said Despres was questioned for two hours before he was released. During that time, he said, customs agents employed "every conceivable method" to check for warrants or see if Despres had broken any laws in trying to re-enter the country.

"Nobody asked us to detain him," Anthony said. "Being bizarre is not a reason to keep somebody out of this country or lock them up. ... We are governed by laws and regulations, and he did not violate any regulations."

Anthony conceded it "sounds stupid" that a man wielding what appeared to be a bloody chain saw could not be detained. But he added: "Our people don't have a crime lab up there. They can't look at a chain saw and decide if it's blood or rust or red paint."

Sgt. Gary Cameron of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police would not comment on whether it was, in fact, blood on the chain saw.

On the same day Despres crossed the border, he was due in a Canadian court to be sentenced on charges he assaulted and threatened to kill Fulton's son-in-law, Frederick Mowat, last August.

Mowat told police Despres had been bothering his father-in-law for the past month. When Mowat confronted him, Despres allegedly pulled a knife, pointed it at Mowat's chest and said he was "going to get you all."

Police believe the dispute between the neighbors boiled over in the early-morning hours of April 24, when Despres allegedly broke into Fulton's home and stabbed to death the musician and 70-year-old Veronica Decarie.

Fulton's daughter found her father's body two days later. His car was later found in a gravel pit on a highway leading to the U.S. border. Despres hitchhiked to the border crossing.

After the bodies were found on the afternoon of April 26, police set up roadblocks and sent out a bulletin that identified Despres as a "person of interest" in the slayings, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The bulletin caught the eye of a Quincy police dispatcher because it gave the suspect's Massachusetts driver's license number, missing a character. The dispatcher plugged in numbers and letters until she found a last known address for Despres in Mattapoisett. She alerted police in that town, and an officer quickly spotted Despres.

In state court the next day, Despres told a judge that he is affiliated with NASA and was on his way to a Marine Corps base in Kansas at the time of his arrest.

After the case was transferred to federal court, Despres' attorney, Michael Andrews, questioned whether his client is mentally competent.

Fulton's friends in Minto, a village of 2,700 people, told the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal that he was a popular musician, a guitarist known as the "Chet Atkins of Minto" and a 2001 inductee in the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame.

Arthur was a womanizer, and around 1928 he ran off with another woman but never divorced Maria, his wife. The oral family tradition has been that she was a burlesque stripper, but the stripper may have been a woman that he was dating at a later time. Arthur never gave any money to support his family. Maria had to scrub floors and wash laundry through the Depression to pay for food and shelter.

Cadillac:
Around 1947 he sold one of the buildings he owned on Central Avenue in Jersey City, and used the money to buy a brand new Cadillac. This was the building that he had his office in. Everyone in the family told him not to sell the building and to keep collecting rental income from it. He sold it and the Cadillac he bought was ruined within a few years.

Edlycoe Klynman:
During the late 1940's he was living with Edlycoe Klynman aka AdaLee on Cottage Street and she had a daughter, but Arthur was not the father. Richard Freudenberg (1918-1994) aka Dick Freudenberg dated the daughter. Arthur wouldn't get a divorce from Marie to marry her, so she left him after taking all his money.

Diabetes:
Later in life he had diabetes and had to have a few toes amputated. His daughter Hel

Santa Cruz Island

Santa Cruz Island

From Wikipedia.com:

Santa Cruz Island was the largest privately owned island off the continental United States, but is currently part-owned by the National Park service (NPS owns 24%, and the Nature Conservancy owns 76%).[1] The island, located off the coast of California, is 22 miles (35 km) long and from 2 to 6 miles (3.2 to 9.7 km) wide. It is part of the northern group of the Channel Islands of California,[1] and at 61,764.6 acres (249.952 km2) or 96.507 sq mi) is the largest of the eight islands in the chain. Santa Cruz Island is located within Santa Barbara County, California. The coastline has steep cliffs, gigantic sea caves, coves, and sandy beaches. Defined by the United States Census Bureau as Block 3000, Block Group 3, Census Tract 29.10 of Santa Barbara County, the 2000 census showed an official population of two persons.[2] The highest peak is Devils Peak, at 2450+ feet (747+ m).
A central valley splits the island along the Santa Cruz Island Fault, with volcanic rock on the north and older sedimentary rock on the south.
Santa Cruz is the only place where the Island Scrub Jay is found.

[edit]Early history
Archaeological investigations indicate that Santa Cruz Island has been occupied for at least 9,000 years. People, of the Chumash Indian tribe lived on the island and developed a highly complex society dependent on marine harvest, craft specialization and trade with the mainland population. The Santa Cruz Island Chumash produced shell beads that they used for currency, which formed an important part of the overall Chumash economy. Native villagers had no known contact with Europeans until the 16th and early 17th centuries. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who is credited with the first European exploration of the California coast, observed at least six villages, though he and his crew did not come ashore. Cabrillo named the island San Lucas, although the Chumash called it Limuw.[3]
In 1602, Sebastian Vizcaino led the last Spanish expedition to California. His map named Santa Cruz Island the Isla de Gente Barbuda (island of the bearded people). Between 1602 and 1769 there was no recorded European contact with the island. Finally, in 1769, the land-and-sea expedition of Don Gaspar de Portola reached Santa Cruz Island. Traveling with him were Father Juan Gonzalez Vizcaino and Father Francisco Palou. Father Palou wrote of Father Vizcaino’s visit to the Santa Cruz village of Xaxas that the missionaries on ship went ashore and “they were well received by the heathen and presented with fish, in return for which the Indians were given some strings of beads.” The island was considered for establishment of a Catholic mission to serve the large Chumash population. When Mission San Buenaventura was founded across the channel in 1782, it commenced the slow religious conversion of the Santa Cruz Chumash. In 1822, the last of the Chumash left the island for mainland California.[3]
With Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821, the Mexican government asserted its control over California. In an effort to increase the Mexican presence, the government began sending convicted criminals to populate many areas. Around 40 prisoners were sent to Santa Barbara where, upon arrival, they were sent to Santa Cruz Island. They lived for a short time in an area now known as Prisoners Harbor.[3]
[edit]Mexican land grant
Governor Juan Alvarado made a Mexican land grant of the Island of Santa Cruz to his aide Captain Andres Castillero in 1839. When California became a state in 1850, the United States government, through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, required that land previously granted by Spanish and Mexican governments be proved before the Board of Land Commissioners. A claim was filed with the Land Commission in 1852,[4] confirmed by the US Supreme Court[5] and the grant was patented to Andres Castillero in 1867.[6] For twelve years Castillero’s claim to Santa Cruz Island was disputed, even after his property had been sold. During Castillero’s ownership, Dr. James B. Shaw, an English physician, acted as manager of the island. He built the island’s first ranch house by 1855 and is thought to have brought the first French Merino sheep to the island.[3]

Castillero sold the island to William Barron, a San Francisco businessman and co-owner of the company Barron, Forbes & Co., in 1857. During the twelve years that Barron owned the island, Dr. Shaw continued to manage it as superintendent and was charged by Barron to expand the sheep ranching operation begun during the Castillero era. The Civil War significantly increased the demand for wool and by 1864 some 24,000 sheep grazed the hills and valleys of Santa Cruz Island.[3]

What parents should know about the creatine industry.

What parents should know about the creatine industry.

CON-CRET sponsored the 2009 USAPL National High School Powerlifting Championships in Killeen Texas on April 3-5. The event had over 350 boys and girls from across the country.

Over the three days, the common question raised by coaches and parents was; is creatine a steroid, is it safe and is it legal?

It is not surprising that these questions are in the minds of parents and coaches today.

With the lack of regulation in the dietary industry-anything goes and that leads to confusion, as one corporate insider said, " When it comes to dietary supplements, it is like the wild west and the bad guys know they don't have to take the sheriff seriously."

It is soley up to the individual companies to decide how they intend to promote their product and present it to the buying public. Disclosure of all the ingredients on the label is not mandatory, and that means you can find anything in the product unknowingly, like stimulants, additives, binders, fillers, excipients and extenders.

Some ingredients can be considered banned or illegal often hidden behind "patent pending" or "proprietary" claims. Other ingredients can cause allergic or adverse reactions, but when you don't know what is in a product than you can be at serious risk.

Companies create their own science, often with little back up or none at all and some efficacy statements are layered with creative language that can confuse any scientist. Hype marketing consume the individual in advertisements convincing people using their product wil produce explosive results-some too good to be true-some to the point of "pulp fiction".

Can it get outrageous, the answer is yes, an associate from a vitamin store said, " some companies in the US get away with everything. In Canada there are strict laws regulating supplements. The same product sold in this store may not be allowed on the shelf in Canada due to compliance. Everything must be listed on the label, and often that presents itself as a problem. Some ingredients are banned or unproven and companies fail to get approval."

The General Accounting Office recently completed a report on dietary supplement recommendations to the FDA. One conclusion, the FDA needs more resources and also needs to address reporting adverse reactions, product safety and availability of reliable information.

Up to now, reporting a death was about all that was required, everything was voluntary bya company-"it just doesn't make sense" eed a parent at the powerlifting meet.

What if an illegal or banned substance is found in a supplement? Confusion as to who is at fault-especially if the athlete is tested and fails. Governing organiztions, like the NCAA and other amatuer and professional organizations do not test products-they test athletes. Companies can opt to have an outside firm test their products and also randomly pull their products off the store shelf to test for contamination. Still, the individual is at risk, and the question remains, who do you trust? It happens every year, an Olympic athlete, professional athlete or college athlete is found to be "test positive". Even when the item was an over the counter supplement purchased at a vitamin store and found to be contaminated with a banned or illegal ingredient not listed on the label. Finger pointing resulting in legal challenges and countersuits, in the meantime the athlete is suspended-often in jeopardy of their scholarship pending appeals which can consume one's college career.

Most parents I spoke with at the USAPL event rely on coaches to lend them advice and what they can gather on the internet. They will also ask other parents if their child is taking supplements. In the end they realize that one thing is for certain, if their child intends to compete and pursue playing sports beyond high school, they will eventually take something.

Today's strength coaches, athletic trainers and conditioning coaches are more informed through professional member associations and trade journals. Sports nutrition is a very important issue and concern with everyone.

Athletes don't always eat right or rest enough. They are often under-recovered and not over-trained. Athletes also fall into the area of asking their bodies to perform more than they are capable of producing or naturally born to do.

Creatine, which is what this article is about is often misunderstood. Creatine is an essential nutrient to energize muscle cells and that includes the heart and brain. It is naturally found in foods we eat like meat and seafood and is sythesized by the liver, kidney and pancreas.

Creatine is a normal part of daily life, firing ATP billions of time a day to create muscle activity. You need it to survive. Unfortunately, Mother Nature expends in an average athlete only 2-3 grams per day. less in females. The amount of grams is typically calculated by body type, density and mass. It is not calculated by how hard y

65-79 Worth Street

65-79 Worth Street

Tribeca, Manhattan, New York City, United States of America

Tribeca East Historic District, Tribeca, Manhattan

This five-story Ita1ianate store and loft building extends fifty feet along the north side of Worth street and seventy-five feet on the east side of Church Street. It was constructed in 1859-60 for Samuel Wyman, a dry goods merchant who resided in Baltimore, as two buildings. With the adjacent structure at 69 Worth Street, which was built at approximately the same time, it appears to be part of a larger building. The three buildings share a tax lot. The Church street facade of the building is marble above the first story. It is divided into three vertical sections by quoins.

The end sections have two window openings each, while the center section has three. Characteristic of the Italianate style, the windows have molded surrounds and flat pediments, a treatment which was popularized by the design of the A.T. stewart store. Windows have two-over-two double-hung wood sash, although the northernmost bay of window openings has been blocked for an elevator shaftway. Sill courses, balustrades below the second-story windows, and a marble cornice further enhance the design. The original cast-iron storefront framing, seen in an historic photograph, has been replaced by stone piers and an entablature.

The Worth Street facade is divided into two sections by quoins and features the same overall design and articulation of detail as the Church street facade. It is visually continuous with the building at 69 Worth Street, and is part of the consistent architectural character of the streetscape.

The present building replaced four frame dwellings. In 1865 the building was occupied by Low, Harriman & Co., selling agents for the American Print Works. Later, it was occupied by W.C. Peet & Co. and A.D. Juilliard & Co., both prominent dealers in dry goods. Currently the ground floor is vacant, and there is office space above.

-- Description of the District---

The Tribeca East Historic District, which encompasses 197 buildings and four undeveloped lots, is located in the area bounded roughly by Canal Street on the north, Worth Street on the south, and Broadway and Cortlandt Alley on the east. Church Street forms much of the western boundary of the district, although blockfronts along Franklin and White Streets extend the district to West Broadway. The district extends east of Broadway, between Franklin and Canal Streets, to include buildings on the east side of Cortlandt Alley. While many of the district's cast-iron and masonry commercial buildings were erected beginning at mid-nineteenth century and continuing into the early twentieth century, when the dry goods district was located in this area, later buildings in the district — office buildings and banks — also served the textile trade.

The Tribeca East Historic District takes its name from the acronym TriBeCa, for Triangle Below Canal Street. Coined in the mid-1970s as the result of City Planning studies and the adoption of a Special Lower Manhattan Mixed Use District, the Tribeca name came to be applied to the area south of Canal Street, between Broadway and West Street, extending south to Vesey Street, which is larger than the zoning district. The Tribeca East Historic District has a distinct and special character within the larger Tribeca area defined by its many blockfronts of ornate store and loft buildings which reflect the district's role as the center for dry goods and related businesses in New York City.

During the decades after textile mills were established in New England with its abundant sources of water power, American textile markets began to flourish in New York City and other northern urban centers, where dry goods importers, general merchants, and rs were concentrated. As New York City developed as the country's major port and trading center, a dry goods district sprang up on Pearl Street near the East River docks. After the disastrous fire of 1835, these merchants were scattered to various locations around Pearl Street, in proximity to the South Street seaport. As commercial shipping interests switched to longer ships and steam boats, it was found that these vessels could not easily navigate the East River, and new piers on the deeper Hudson River prospered. Beginning in the 1850s, the dry goods merchants relocated to the area north and west of Broadway and Chambers Street, allowing competitors to be in close contact with each other and closer to the Hudson River piers, and offering buyers the convenience of a central marketplace. That area of the city was transformed into a new commercial center after the A.T. Stewart Store, the fashionable "Marble Palace" which housed the first American department store, was built in 1845-46 on the east side of Broadway between Chambers and Reade Streets. During the early 1850s the first stories of many earlier residences were converted to commercial use, and some two dozen

Did you know that items from DisneyStore.com came from South Carolina?

Even better than that, did you know they have an outlet with returns, defects and overstocks?

It was a little of a budget buster trip right after Christmas but the deals were incredible! One of our finds was a snow globe I've been eying at World of Disney for several years. $100+ snow globe for $42!

If you are close to the area or driving through, be sure to stop!

They are only open on weekdays though!

Thomas Burke worked for her father's law firm. Although she must have caught his eye while he was there, Burke left the firm to start his own before marrying Caroline McGilvra in 1879.

The Burkes built a handsome mansion on prestigious First Hill, and a cottage on then-distant Lake Washington. Their rustic home was dubbed "Illahee," a term meaning "homeland" or "earth" in traders' dialect, Chinook jargon. The beach house was decorated with polar bear rugs, Indian baskets and artifacts. The guest book from Illahee is a commentary on the Burkes' life - peppered with photos and press clippings chronicling their social activities.

Rising up from a former pioneer town, Burke achieved quite a sophisticated life. She spoke French and traveled extensively. She acquired a collection of antiques and artifacts - it became the core of a generous endowment to what became The Burke Museum on the University of Washington campus.

Debbie Matani's Forgery (one of many)
Debbie Matani was ordered by the Superior Court of Fulton County to, amongst several items she still fails to comply with, notify her Father, Curtis Shatley, that she and her friends have NO contact with several of her victims . Comparing letters Debbie Matani wrote to several victims, this clearly appears to be HER handwriting. Also, notice that her Father's name is spelled wrong; "Curts". On other forgeries, she spells her fathers name as "Kurtis Shetley".

This document was supplied by the law offices of Alston & Bird. This is the law firm Bill Hughes, husband of Rev. Dana Hughes, is a partner. Committing a Federal crime doesn't faze Debbie Matani and her violent posse.

New York Botanical Garden, The Bronx, New York, United States

The construction of the Conservatory in the New York Botanical Garden was begun in 1899, eight years after that institution was incorporated by the New York State Legislature. The Botanical Garden, a non-profit institution, is located in the northern section of Bronx Park on land that was once a part of the Lorillard estate. After having visited the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in 1888, Dr. Nathaniel L. Britton, one of the most eminent botanists of his day, was inspired to establish a similar institution here.

Dr. Britton was influenced not only by the conception of Kew, but also by its famous horticultural house, built between 1845 and 1847 from designs by Decimus Burton. This relationship is seen in an 1896 clipping from an unknown New York source which shows a rendering of the proposed greenhouse, nearly duplicating Burton's design, and the New York Journal of June 16, 1901 states: "...New York will have the largest [greenhouse] equipment of the kind in the world, with the exception of the famous Kew Gardens."

Parallel developments were taking place in the realm of exposition buildings, epitomized by the design by Sir Joseph Paxton for the Crystal Palace which was built for the 1851 Great Exhibition held in London. Our Crystal Palace, housing the New York Exhibition of 1853, had a dome at the crossing which might well have served as a precedent for later palm houses.

A theoretical relationship between the two greenhouses definitely exists despite the half century separating their construction, which allowed for variations in structural methods and design elements. While British horticultural houses erected during the mid-nineteenth century were restricted to iron and wood construction, steel framing was largely utilized in the one built for the New York Botanical Garden.

The architectural design for the New York Botanical Garden Conservatory is believed to have been carried out by William R. Cobb, designer and architect for Lord & Burnham, the most noted greenhouse firm at that time and to this day.

This company (now a division of Burnham Corporation) was founded in 1856 by Frederick A. Lord. In 1872, William Addison Burnham, Mr. Lord's son-in-law, entered the firm as a partner. By then, the company had moved from Syracuse to Irvington, New York, in order to be near the many Hudson River estates which supplied them with so much cf their business. Perhaps the most prominent of these private greenhouses was the one built in 1881 at Lyndhurst, the estate of Jay Gould in Tarrytown, New York. The firm's early work also included commissions for public greenhouses, such as the one commissioned in 1877 for Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The New York Botanical Garden Conservatory comprises a central rotunds or Palm House and ten connecting greenhouses, which together form a C-shaped The central Palm House, which is approximately 100 feet in diameter, is flanked by two lateral wings, each about 116 feet long, and two cruciform-shaped corner houses. Projecting from these corner buildings are side wings, each 75 feet long, set at right angles to the central portion. The C-form is completed by two square pavilions at the ends of the side wings, and two 103-foot wings parallel to the central portion of the building. This elaborate plan was actually built in two stages: the central portion and one of the side wings, January 1899 to June 1900, and the regaining greenhouses, 1901 to early in 1902.

The central Palm House and adjacent greenhouses were set on stone foundations, to which were bolted vertical steel posts. These in turn were connected to bowed steel ribs, forming a curved roof. The bowed steel ribs are tied together horizontally by steel purlins. Intermediate wood ribs support the overlapping panes of glass. Many of these wooden members, which were originally cypress, were replaced during an extensive reconstruction carried out by Lord § Burnham between 1937 and 1933. It is believed that the original ornamental window en-fragments on the greenhouse wings and the acanthus leaf roof crestings were removed at that time.

The circular Palm House has engaged cast-iron columns set outside of the trussed members which support the main done. These trussed members, which originate at ground level, are curved inside the dome and are gathered together at the top to a steel ring, which, in turn, supports a clerestory and the upper dome which is carried on ribs.

The Palm House retains its original windows and elaborate transoms which create the effect of round-arched fan lights. Other decorative elements remaining on this section include slender cast-iron columns, crowned with Composite capitals.

Above these columns runs a pressed-metal frieze with garlands and swags and a dentiled cornice. These elements, considered to be "modernized" Italian Renaissance in 1900, are also reflected on the cupola atop the dome of the rotunda
