(12 String Guitars) The twelve string guitar usually has steel strings and is widely used in folk music, blues and rock and roll. Rather than having only six strings, the 12-string guitar has six courses made up of two strings each, like a mandolin or lute.


Unsurprisingly a guitar with 12 strings, it features the normal notes but each of the 6 normal strings has another string next to it which is pitched an octave higher. These guitars give a fuller sound when playing chords.


A string is the vibrating element that produces sound in string instruments, such as the guitar, harp, piano, and members of the violin family. Strings are lengths of a flexible material kept under tension so that they may vibrate freely, but controllably.
