Oscillating Piston Pump
1940's Westinghouse Oscillating Fan
Picked this up at a thrift store yesterday, haven't cleaned anything, except the logo. I like it, the motor is a tad weak (as is to be expected) but when it gets up to speed, good lord this thing will put out some air. It'll blow papers right off the desk I have at the other end of the room (25' away) when on high. It's a 3 speed fan, with a oscillating function, and the "head" itself can pivot (it can actually be mounted to a wall, and the head can be rotated 90*, to compensate for the mounting) but I'll refrain from trying that.
While it's getting up to speed, it literally sounds like someone increasing the throttle of a WWII bomber. It's ridiculous (but awesome.)
As far as the exact year, I can't place it, but I'd estimate between 1944-1948.
Bear with me. This is the linkage that oscillates the piston pump. As the piston reaches the end of it's stroke, it flips the over center lever in the center, which switches a hydraulic valve to the opposing position, which sends the piston traveling in the other direction.
