40th Photo #10
In the 1980s I was becoming a "fine little boy," as the grown-ups said. At Lovett, I played alto & tenor saxophone in concert band, and I was a good student. But I was also a bit of a wise-ass, which made parent-teacher conference days dreadful. I wasn't the class clown or a troublemaker, but let's just say the sarcastic, sassy side of my personality was developing nicely. I guess I was trying to "stand out" to "fit in" among my peers. So, when I was disciplined by my mother, it was usually because of my behavior, not academics. But I was still a good kid! LOL.
UVA Band Day

After the riot
Expensive keyboards and display stands wrecked, many keyboards stolen.
Dawsons Music store in Manchester, the morning after the riot / looting spree. The ground floor was ransacked of keyboards and high tech gear like microphones, and considerable damage done to shopfittings, though it could have been much, much worse. The dumbass looters, whilst wrecking some guitars on the way through, largely ignored high-end Gibson and Taylor guitars to run off with entry-level beginners bass guitars. If only the'd paid attention in school, they would have been able to read the price tickets. And they complain that they can't get a job (not that they want one...).
Within an hour of these photos, the shop was open and trading, with a stream of customers and friends dropping in to wish us well - and buy stuff.

The Beatles Birthday Cake
For my sister's 14th birthday. Dark chocolate cake, buttercream icing. Frozen buttercream transfer and some really pitiful piping on the sides. I tried to use "hippy" colors. Oh, and the words along the side are lyrics to "Birthday" by the Beatles.
Converse with The Beatles
Ok, this title only have a "funny" signification if you read in portuguese. Something like "Talk with The Beatles" :)

031120 041
The pride of my collection: built sometime about 1870, this Buffet clarinet is probably one of the earliest Boehm systems built.
It has no serial number and has an in-line L3 tone hole. The "Buffet" logo is slightly different than the one that was used extensively in the late 19th century and early 20th.
Notice the integrated barrel making this a three pieces unit unlike most other Bb clarinets.
I play this baby on a regular basis and it has an outstanding tone. Like all other integrated clarinets, this one has a crack at the upper most joint. It has been professionally repaired has no effect on the sound qulaity.

Psst, check out my organ
Er.
So yes, neighbor was selling this at a garage sale for close to nothing, and it all works, and so I told him I'd take it and we schlepped it next door to my house and down into the basement. I played on organs a lot as a kid before I really knew much of anything about music, so this is a great big pile of bargain-bin nostalgia.

39/365 My Weekend Work
As I leave my day job for another week, I head into my other business: music. I rarely need so much preparation for a gig, but I am playing at a wedding next Friday and they requested a song that I don't know and need to learn. I should have charged more.
My future started with the first note that I ever played.
