Vegetarian Dumplings Making vegetarian dumplings is a mindful process. For the most time consuming part, the fillings, you need to cut different vegetables into tiny pieces. During that process, observe the different colors and textures of the vegetable pieces, feel the crisp and soft of vegetables and tofu, smell the fresh and earthen smell of vegetables. Here is how I make them. This recipe makes 100 to 200. Dough: 1. 7 cups of flour 2. 1 tsp of salt 3. 2 cups of water (if too dry, add more water) Mix all the above and knead until dough is smooth. Cover dough with plastic film and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Fillings 1. 6 eggs, beat and mix in a bowl. 2. 1 carrot, cut into tiny dices 3. 2 cups of cabbages cut into tiny dices 4. Chinese Wood-Ear Mushroom (or sometimes it is translated as black fungus, does not sound very good, but taste good, and lower cholesterols), soak it in the warm water for 2 hours and then cut into tiny dices, needs about 2 cups of it. 5. Chinese Five-Spice Hard Tofu (or just plain Hard Tofu), cut into tiny dices, needs about 2 cups of it. 6. Green onions, 3 pieces, cut into tiny dices 7. Ginger root, about 2 in. x 2 in. size, cut into tiny dices 8. Garlic, about half glove, cut into tiny dices. 9. Salt ( just add enough to your taste) 10. Soy source (2 tsp or enough to your taste) 11. Sugar (same amount as salt 1:1 ratio) 12.Sesame oil 2 tbsp (optional, replace with butter) 13. Vegetable oil or butter 2tbsp 14. Chinese peppercorn oil 2tbsp (optional, replace with sesame oil or butter) In a pan, add 2tbsp Vegetable oil and 2tbsp Chinese peppercorn oil (or use butter to replace it), Pour the egg mixture into the pan and lightly stir fry until cooked. Cut the cooked egg into tiny dices. Mix the egg pieces and all the ingredients above, taste a little bit to see if you have enough salt and sugar. The filling is then ready. Dipping Source: Vinegar, soy source, sesame oil, chili source Steps 1. Cut the dough into about 1 in. cubes and flatten it into a circular shape and then roll it with rolling pin into about 3 in. to 4in. circles. 2. Put some fillings in the middle of the dough 1. And then pull the 2 sides of the dough toward the center and pinch the edges together, basically, your purpose to seal the fillings inside the dough. You can make it prettier by adding some folds on the edges. Cooking: 1. Boiled Dumplings: Boil water, add dumpling s in it, boil for about 10 minutes or less until the dumplings float up. Vegetarian dumplings don’t need to be cooked very long. 2. Pan Fried Dumplings: put 2 tbsp of butter in the pan, lay dumplings one by one in the pan until pan is full; let it fry for half minute, and then add about ? cup of water; cook until the water is dried and bottom of the dumping is golden brown. murakami: hard-boiled wonderland and the end of the world [pages project] "I can tell Bob Dylan in an instant," she said. Antique Yellow Beehive Cookie Jar with Bees and Flowers This is a fun, vibrant cookie jar! USA is marked on the bottom side. It is large and would hole a good many cookies, depending on their size! Its lid has a crack with a chip running across it. I am not sure if this was repaired or not. The crack continues onto the top of the jar but doesn't go through. The lid can be turned so the crack faces the back. It also shows some crazing, a normal thing for something this old! It is a great addition to a cookie jar collection or to brighten up that kitchen corner! Measurement approximately 9 1/2" tall x 8 1/2" wide ( I will get exact measurements) The cookie jar lid toppled to the floor as Jan and Fred wrestled the jar back and forth vying for the last chocolate chip cookie. It spun on the floor as if in slow motion, each one watching their mistake unfold. Jan picked up the lid and showed the crack to Fred. They gingerly put the lid back on the jar with the crack to the back hopping their mother didn't notice! Deciding that they shared guilt they decided to share the cookie as well. My very first Gay Fad!! This is a hard work of a whole year.... I live in a beautiful country that there are no vintage Pyrex...But this is not a problem for me. I have to say that is hard but not impossible! During this year I have been buying pieces on Ebay, my sister that lives in LA, bought some for me and in my last trip visiting her, I went to a lot of Flea Markets and Antique Stores, just hunting some treasures for me! Then I packed all this stuff very carefully in a huge box (with my sister?s help) and send it to my country. Here comes the hard part of this story... WAIT them for a whole month until they arrive with no problems....(last year I do the same I collected for a whole year and the box full of Pyrex desapered with all my happiness...) But this year I have been so lucky that I have all Pyrex here with me.... Four years making the same process, I am thinking next year will be the last one... I said "I am just thinking....." Save the water. Insert pieces of tamarind into the salmon steaks. Heat veg. oil in a large skillet. Add mustard seeds, cook until they start popping. add shallots, cook a minute, add ginger and garlic, cook another minute, then add curry leaves along with 1 teaspoon of ground red chili. Add 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander, a pinch of turmeric, a pinch of fenugreek, and a teaspoon of salt. Add the tamarind soaking water and cook everything for about 30 seconds more. Add fish with some more water cook covered on medium heat until done. When cooked sprinkle coconut oil over the top of the fish for the aroma. Serve with rice and plain yoghurt. tandoori chicken I picked up these awesome stainless steel flat skewers at BBQ's Galore, and they worked out perfectly. I grilled the rubbed chicken over an open flame at 350, visually checking in every few minutes. After the chicken looked cooked, I brushed the skewers with a mixture of fish sauce, agave nectar, and dry kadhai masala. In hindsight, I should have added lime juice, but it still turned out great. Once ready, I added to the curry, tossed lightly with the potatos and peppers, and served over wheat noodles. I'm kicking myself for not making naan, but I changed my mind halfway through cooking on how I would serve the meal. Twin Creeps This is an old McCoy pottery cookie jar that I've "inherited" from my parents' house. This couple frightened me as a kid. I can see it would be an effective cookie jar as no little kid would dare to sneak a cookie! As a young girl this sat on top of the refrigerator and mom & dad use to store their Raleigh cigarette coupons inside. (Cigarette coupons for those too young to know about such things are similar to S&H Green Stamps. You collect them with purchases and save them up, then turn them in for "stuff". ) When the folks were clearing out some old junk, I just HAD to have this. Now I love it - all cracked and mended as it is. It's so old that the paint is almost totally off their hats. (Yes, owls wore hats back in the 50's) IMG 3566 You look fabulous! We have several of these girls with heart lips and "Scrubbing Bubbles" lashes, probably based on the Holt Howard Christmas head vase, several made by Tilso (including this one), a few figurines by Sonsco, and a head vase series with flowers by Lipper Mann. Chef L'eau Rider So, I decided to quit engineering and become a chef! Just kidding! I am the teaching assistant for a course called Thermal Systems Design (MECH 430). This coming weekend, 72 students (18 teams of 4) will be participating in a solar hot dog cookoff. As part of their coursework, the students must design, build and test a solar hot dog cooker. For their final report, the students must include engineering drawings (done in AutoCad) and conduct a heat transfer and thermodynamics analysis on their cooker. Each judge is going to wear a chef's attire during the competition. The first and second place teams will receive their very own 2 W solar panel (on special at Canadian Tire this week) and a solar powered pathway lamp.
