SAXOPHONE SERIAL NUMBER - SAXOPHONE SERIAL
Saxophone serial number - What are the notes on a electric guitar
Saxophone Serial Number
- A number showing the position of an item in a series, esp. one printed on paper currency or on a manufactured article for the purposes of identification
- A serial number is a unique number assigned for identification which varies from its successor or predecessor by a fixed discrete integer value.
- (SERIAL NUMBERING) The numbering of a printed product in sequential order. Usually for tracking and accountability.
- the unique code that identifies your bicycle, also referred to as a frame number.
- (saxophonist) a musician who plays the saxophone
- The saxophone (also referred to as the sax) is a conical-bored transposing musical instrument that is a member of the woodwind family. Saxophones are usually made of brass and played with a single-reed mouthpiece similar to that of the clarinet.
- sax: a single-reed woodwind with a conical bore
- A member of a family of metal wind instruments with a single-reed mouthpiece, used esp. in jazz and dance music
Low & Mid Register F Key With "Rocker" Extension (1)
The F key cup is the topmost key cup on the right-hand stack. In this and the following pic notice a bit of corked metal extending from the side of the F key cup upwards and at a right angle to the chord of the cup's circumference. When installed on the horn, this arm extends over the key cup for the G note, which is the lowest pad and key cup on the left hand stack.
When the F key is depressed, this arm ensures that the G pad remains in its depressed position and maintaining a seal on its corresponding tone hole. When you play a note like the alternative fingering for Bb where you use the first finger of each hand, or low F# using the right hand middle finger, this arm keeps the G pad down so the notes play in tune, or play at all.
It's a small but very important part. On any saxophone, if the arm isn't adjusted correctly, the G pad won't close all the way and won't allow various notes to play at all.
The extension pictured here is more complicated that the same part on the earlier versions of the True Tone. On those, and most other saxophones (even today, it seems) the extension is a simple bar of metal with a flat underside. Cork is glued on the underside and filed down to a thickness that keeps the G pad closed but also allows the F key to fully close over its tone hole.
Buescher started installing this connector with a "rocker" cross bar late in the 1920's, I think around serial number 220,000 or so. It was not present when Buescher started adding the Front-F key and crescent-shaped pinky G# key at around serial number 200,000.
I guess it's supposed to make the operation of the connecting bar more precise and secure. The cross bar is attached with a screw rod running through on the perpendicular; you can barely see the slotted top of the screw at the flat end at the tip of the extension. The bar "rocks" on the screw. As you can see, you still have to apply cork and adjust that.
I am actually a bit dubious as to whether or not this is really an improvement over a solid bar. Could be it just made things a bit more complicated. It would be interesting to hear what a tech familiar with Buescher horns has to say about it.
Bass Saxophone-A.jpg
The 'B' is for Bass. The serial number puts the manufacture of this saxophone in 1922. The L signifies that it is a low pitch instrument.

36. these days
My husband was fooling around with some music, and it kind of struck a chord in me (no pun intended, I swear), so I wrote lyrics to it. Tonight, we sang it for Serena, and she put a harmony to it.
A few months ago, she couldn't sing a harmony while someone else was singing. Now, she's figuring out her own.
The whole song is on Facebook.
- - - - -
we solved the puzzles of the world
used to have those kinds of talks
traversed a hundred thousand miles
in one-hour autumn walks
but I’m not much for talking these days
I don’t have much to say
I’m not much for walking these days
except to walk away
so close your eyes—and you will see as far as I can see
I close my eyes because I hate to see how far I am how far I am
you’d strum a dozen favorite tunes
I’d sing along with all of them
we’d watch a comedy or two
on Sunday mornings in the den
but I’m not much for singing, these days
the notes are kind of strained
and I’m not much for laughing, these days
I’m feeling rather drained
so close your eyes—and you will see as far as I can see
I close my eyes because I hate to see how far I am how far I am
I pour the coffee from the pot
I wipe the spills and fold the sheets
I sweep the floors and make the beds
count down the heart’s infernal beats
yeah, I’m not much for thinkin’ these days
the thoughts are kind of grey
and I’m too long for livin’ these days
but I can’t walk away
so close your eyes—and you will see as far as I can see
I close my eyes because I hate to see how far I am how far I am

The Grave
Our high school stage was somewhat lacking in "serious" material during the 84-85 school year. We seemed to be doing a lot of light comedy. So I by God corrected that — and then some! Here I am performing "The Grave" by Don McLean, accompanied by the talented Gisela Westwater on guitar.
This song was something of a challenge as we couldn't find sheet music. I sung the lyrics as I heard them, and Gisela somehow managed to transcribe the chords by ear. I was pretty happy with my performance on at least one of the nights, if you can use the word "happy" in conjunction with a song like "The Grave."
I really have no idea what the audience made of this.

La botiga esta situada al bell mig de la ciutat pero, per sort, passa desapercebuda entre els turistes.

They seem a bit serious at first, but they aren't at all. Plus they know loads. The entrance sign is historic. It's right in the centre, but it's a shop that luckily gets passed over by the tourists.

Citole - Medieval guitar
Another wonderful sight at the British Museum - apologies again for the reflections from the glass display case. Late 13th or early 14th Century.
A citole is the medieval equivalent of a guitar. This example is both a unique survival of its type and an outstanding example of medieval secular art. It was highly prized in its day and highly regarded throughout its history.
Alterations have been made to the citole at several points in the past, including attempts to convert it to a violin. Among the changes is the insertion of a silver plate above the peg box, engraved with the arms of Elizabeth I, Queen of England (1558-1603) and her favourite and lover, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. One of the most likely uses for the citole in medieval times would be as accompaniment to love ballads. The amorous associations clearly persisted into the Elizabethan age.
The back, sides and neck are all carved from a single piece of wood and date from the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century. At this time the soundboard would have been flat and without the f-shaped sound holes.
The richly carved decoration reveals a close observance of nature and a fascination with the forest. A variety of creatures emerge from the dense foliage of oak, vine, hawthorn and mulberry leaves. Some are hybrid monsters, such as the archer with the head and torso of a youth but the hindquarters of an animal. Others are huntsmen, animals of the chase and a swineherd who knocks down acorns to feed his pigs - the traditional 'labour of the month' for October or November. The whole culminates in the head and wings of a green-eyed dragon.

Guitar Tabs For Free Bird
- Tablature (or tabulature, or tab for short) is a form of musical notation indicating instrument fingering rather than musical pitches.
- "Free Bird" (also spelled "Freebird") is a song by the American southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was first featured on the band's debut album (Pronounced 'Leh-'nerd 'Skin-'nerd) in 1973, and has been included on subsequent albums released by the band.
Free Bird
If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.
Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord help me, I can't change.
- "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
All I wanted was to be loved; too bad nothing lasts forever.
I'm as free as a bird now And this bird, you can not change
if I stayed here with you, girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird, you'll can not change
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird you cannot change
Lord knows, I can't change
Bye, bye, baby it's been a sweet love
Yeah, yeah
Though this feeling I can't change
But please don't take it so badly
'Cause the Lord knows
I'm to blame

Goran Bregovic & The Wedding And Funeral Band #1
Live @t Avellino, 9/3/2007
This is the second time that I see Goran Bregovic. Its balkan sound and his past rock influence was here on the stage across his soundtrack and the tracks of his new album Karmen. For a lots of photo here, I was very lucky, I stay for a bit sitting in the first line on the chairs under the stage, so focus and light quality is magnificant!
Composer and guitarist Goran Bregovic has been a household name in the Balkans for over three decades. Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (then Yugoslavia), Bregovic has composed for such varied artists as Iggy Pop and Cesaria Evora. He earned his fame wielding a guitar with his rock band Bijelo Dugme, a group that rose to stardom and set the groundwork for the Yugoslav rock scene. Known internationally for his scores for Emir Kusturica’s films (Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, Underground), Bregovic commands an ensemble that matches his larger-than-life persona. A rowdy brass band, bagpipes, a string ensemble, a tuxedo-clad all-male choir from Belgrade, and traditional Bulgarian and Roma singers make up his dynamic 40-piece band and orchestra. Bregovic’s compositions, extending Balkan musical inspirations to innovative extremes, draw upon European classicism and Balkan rhythms, evoking rock’s searing power as well as the repose of sacred sounds–all fueled by the insistent drive of brass.
Ennio Morricone Malamondo and Guns For San Sebastian
Pretty much every Morricone record Ive heard is amazing, and no exception here. MALAMONDO is an awesome one to have on vynil with that cool collage cover, and a white label promo in excelent condition I might add. Its an early Morricone score from 1964 for a Mondo Cane type film about teenagers around the world, and already has Morricones very unique use of voice as an instrument and that trademark spaghetti guitar. My favorite song on this one at the moment is Velvet Muscles. As for GUNS FOR SAN SEBASTIAN it was sort of what I expected, western music from 1968 by THE master of the genre, but a slightly less weird sounds than say The Good The Bad And The Ugly, and more calm very soothing pieces, this one is a recent reissue. Both records very impressive.

brad wilson. lexington, ky.
this is an image i shot for a local musician here in lexington, intended to fall somewhere within the liner notes of his band's latest offering. we met at his house for the shoot, and i must say i had visions of deliciously appointed music rooms with walls of guitars dancing in my head on the drive over.
you can imagine my shock/surprise when i arrived to find the entire house blanketed in rather ornate, classical decor with an endless supply of floral patterns, gold accents, and crystal collectibles. beautiful things, to be sure, but no background suitable for a rock album.
so after a short time spent nervously pacing around the living room, this idea thankfully popped into my head. we asked his daughter to assist by holding his (rather heavy) les paul high into the air, and voila! ...a flower-free setting. :)
thanks for viewing my images!
and for my esteemed strobist friends: one alien bees b1600 shot through a beauty dish at about 75 degrees camera right, one b1600 shot through a 10 degree grid from the left side of the guitar.
The neighbour
This guy is my neighbour, an awesome guitar player and a famous oud – the Arabic lute – player.
He occasionally teaches me (or at least tries to) the wonders of arabo-andalusian music, its maqamat (the traditional Arabic sets of notes, including quarter tones !), and a few excerpts of a nuba. The nuba is the traditional form of classical Andalusian music. Musicians used to play a nuba for each hour of the day, meaning there were 24 nuba in the Arabic musical tradition, each about a different theme (religion, love, etc.). Only 7 nuba have survived until nowadays, the others being completely or partially lost. This guy and his master spend a big amount of time in experiments and researches in order to recompose those missing nubas. If you come and visit the Oudayas Kasbah during the afternoon, you’ll probably see him (and maybe me, which is more rare) playing the guitar and drinking tea in front of his house…

coltrane
Review by Lindsay Planer
For his second long player, John Coltrane (tenor saxophone) joined forces with his Prestige labelmate Red Garland (piano) to command a quartet through a five song outing supported by a rhythm section of Paul Chambers (bass) and Art Taylor (drums). The absence of any unessential instrumentalists encourages a decidedly concerted focus from Coltrane, who plays with equal measures of confidence and freedom. The Coltrane original "Traneing In" is a rousing blues that exemplifies the musical singularity between Coltrane and Garland. Even though the pianist takes charge from the start, the structure of the arrangement permits the tenor to construct his solo seamlessly out of Garland's while incrementally increasing in intensity, yet never losing the song's underlying swinging bop. Chambers then gets in on the action with an effervescent run that quotes the seasonal favorite "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." The poignant "Slow Dance" is a dark ballad with a simple, refined tune that is established by Coltrane. He turns things over to Chambers, and then Garland — whose respective style and grace are virtually indescribable — before bringing it home with one final verse. "Bass Blues" is the second Coltrane-penned selection on the album. Right from the tricky opening riff, the slightly asymmetrical melody showcases Chambers' ability to mirror even the most intricate or seemingly improvised lines from Coltrane. The mid-tempo pace is a springboard for the tenor's spontaneous inventions as he interfaces with a rollicking and ready Garland alongside Chambers' unfettered bowing. "You Leave Me Breathless" provides everything that a love song should with long, languid runs by Coltrane, Garland, and what is arguably Paul Chambers at his absolute finest. Few passages can match the grace and stately refinement of the bassist as he pilots the proceedings behind Taylor's steady metronome and Garland's luminous, effective comps. John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio (1957) draws to a close on the bebop lover's dream, a fast and furious interpretation of the Irving Berlin classic "Soft Lights and Sweet Music." Clearly Coltrane excels within this context, laying down his note clusters more rapidly than the listener can actually absorb them. These are clear demarcations pointing toward the remarkable sonic advancements Coltrane was espousing. And although it would be a few years before he'd make the leap into full-blown free jazz, the roots can clearly be traced back here.
"I Generate My Own Heat"
I met Kurt today on my way back from the small business development center. He was jamming on his saxophone for over an hour here at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles. He said that he has been playing the saxophone for over 20 years, he said "you name it, i can play it." Unfortunately i didnt know any songs to request so i just asked him to keep jamming. He didnt hesitate to play another tune. I told him i would be back to visit him, he smiled and sent me on my way.
Note to self: whenever going somewhere, make sure you have the CURRENT address and not the old, outdated address. I attempted to go to the small business development center (SBDC) today to get some information on starting my own business and getting some books printed up. when I got to the address i noticed it was a beauty salon. I asked some people standing nearby if they knew where the SBDC was and nobody had any idea. When I got back to my office I got online and found out that the office has moved.

58/365: Music Store
Yesterday morning at the music store. I was aiming to get a shot of all the different instruments the store carried - its a very large store - until the brass section became sensitive to being photographed. Odd?
This is all I managed to get.
My husband was off elsewhere in another section talking "shop" so maybe I should have dragged him beside me the whole time.

THE WHOLE HEAVEN A MUSICAL SCALE AND A NUMBER
Judith Leyster portrayed children sympathetically, allowing them expressions and emotions, music and art, at a time when many of them did not survive their early years. The child in Boy Playing the Flute has fallen on hard times. He is teetering between poverty and comfortable domesticity. Though he still has a home with a violin hanging on the wall, there is no music master in the room. He is going it alone. But he seems to hear harmony from above.
This young musician still has an advantage over many of his contemporaries. He is healthy, having so far escaped the scourges of his times, though impending poverty undoubtedly puts him at risk. Pneumonia, diphtheria, diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis, and streptococcal infections were major causes of childhood illness and death, as they still are in much of the world. Some, among them respiratory infections that might have cut the youth's flute career short, are now under control because of expansive vaccination programs, including in today's Netherlands.
But while a young boy might tap into the music of the spheres for inspiration and survival, those who try to break the axiomatic connection between wealth, poverty, health, and illness can only rely on programs aimed at the great killers of children. Persistent and unrelenting disharmony, caused by diseases upon diseases emerging and reemerging amidst endless complicating factors, interferes in public health with their orderly conquest, one by one, in any kind of anticipated pattern or ratio on a cosmic scale.
