Cerimonia per la posa della lapide
all’ex “Albergo Regina” - Comando Nazista 1943-1945
Via Silvio Pellico ang. Via Santa Margherita – Milano
Venerdi 22 Gennaio 2010, ore 14,30

Perche una lapide all’ex Albergo Regina?
Perche i Medaglieri dell’Ass. Naz. Partigiani d’Italia e della Fed. Italiana Ass. Partigiane?

Day 1: Pelling. Rabdentse Residency Hotel

Lonely Planet recommends this place. They were right about the service. The people who work there are very accommodating. The guy who worked the front desk always made sure My breakfast, lunch, and dinner was served at the exact time I specified, and even had his "man" find me fruit when my stomach couldn't handle the curry anymore. The first meal I ate in the restaurant downstairs, but it was awkward having the "in house servant" and manager watching and waiting on me hand on foot to the point of being uncomfortable. I ended up eating my meals in my room from then on. The manager also arranged a private driver for me at a lower rate than most were charging and always did everything with a smile on his face.

The Snake Charmer

The Snake Charmer

Byron Chak is the last surviving member of an ancient lineage with the ability to control snakes. He has used his gift for selfish personal gain, and left a trail of disappointment and misery behind him. Now, he is being pursued by a powerful force as mysterious as the origin of his own talents. His abandoned sons have their own problems, but they seek to find and protect him before they are all destroyed.

Chapter 1:
1955
Piste, Mexico

“Padre, we found the body of the woman,” croaked the exhausted and sweating man, standing in the priest's doorway. He had hitched rides and run all the way from the coast. “She was floating in the shallow water near Tulum, not far from the ruins. We pulled her out, but it looked like she had already given birth.” Tulum is an ancient city on the southern tip of the Costa Maya, where Mexico reaches the Caribbean Sea, and the last place that the woman had been seen. It was a place of visions that was once part of the proud Mayan empire. Now the sacred and beautiful temples and pyramids had become crumbling ruins overgrown with weeds.
“Thank you, my son. Was there any word on the child?” Asked the priest, expressionless.
“No Padre, we did what you said and went north, but there was no word. The last I heard, Jose and Pedro were tracking the old women who were seen with the lady we found in the water, and they might have had the child with them. The child might have drowned, too,” he added hopefully. Juan knew how important it was for the priest to find the child. The child was important to the “witches,” and the witches had been corrupting the local people with their old religion since before the church had come. The priest had branded the practitioners of the old religion as heretics, and the priests and priestesses as witches, pagans, and devil-worshipers. He warned the people of their sin, and that it was a crime against God to support them. It was the duty of his flock, as Christian soldiers, to stop the spread of the old religion.
“No Juan, the child is being hidden. It is our duty to find him and save him from the pagans. Without our intervention, he will be corrupted by their evil.” He knew the old religion was appealing to the local people, and every year he would lose a parishioner or two to the excitement of the ancient rites. The people of the region were mostly descendants of the Mayans, and many of the people kept small tokens of their historical religion. The history of the people sometimes drew them back to the worship of their old gods. Fewer and fewer followed the old religion, which the priest called “witchcraft.” This child, though, could change everything. He knew what kind of power could reside in the child. It was the same power that had resided in the child's father, before the priest had killed him.
He stood up and turned around. His robes hung loosely on his thin frame. His pale skin was almost translucent in the midday sun. He shook slightly, contemplating his failure. He knew he had been only minutes too late to pluck the child from the womb, but by the time he had arrived with his followers the child had been born and was already spirited away.
“Juan, stay focused on the goal. We must find the child. It is the will of God that we protect him.”
Juan nodded. “I am sorry, Padre. I will keep looking.”
“Leave immediately to join Pablo and Jose at the border. Perhaps you can still find the child. You do the work of the lord. Thank you, my son.”
Juan smiled with pride, and the priest smiled back at him. The priest knew that they were too late, now, to complete the task. He had worked for years to eradicate the child's bloodline. These were the temple guardians, and viewed as gods themselves by the people. This was as close as he had ever been to success, and as the minutes ticked by he could feel himself drifting farther away from his goal.

Anaheim Convention Center in Overcooked HDR - Hollywood style

The Anaheim Convention Center is going to have the PMA2010 (The worldwide community of imaging associations) expo starting tomorrow, so I went to pick up my badge today. This is an "overcooked" HDR on purpose--it looks very Hollywood from the outside... it is next to Disney... perhaps that's why. The HDR is composed of 3 pictures taken +/- 2 exposure stops apart. I used Photomatix to process the HDR and tonemapping.

Early Anaheim (CA) (Images of America)

As one of the largest cities in one of the nation's most populous counties, Anaheim anchors a host of Orange County attractions, not the least of which are Disneyland, the 2002 World Champion Anaheim Angels, and the Anaheim Convention Center. But Anaheim's early history followed the hardscrabble route, with fitful years of early cityhood steered in part by hardy immigrant German vintners who, with a civic-mindedness, advanced the establishment of the churches, schools, banks, civic services, and a Carnegie Library that made Anaheim thrive. This collection of more than 200 vintage images reveals the foresight of such men as John Frohling, Charles Kohler, George Hansen, John Fischer, August Langenberger, and others who shaped the beginnings of one of California's great cities.

Lifeblog post: Thoughts on Egypt

Lifeblog post: Thoughts on Egypt

Goodbye photo of the River Nile. First of all, I know it's sad that I haven't posted in 9 months, but whatever. Also, this is from my Nokia, so hopefully it doesn't come out crappy... :-) Now that I am sitting in the airport and I am getting ready to get back on the plane to go home to Cyprus (home? that sounds weird) I thought I should voice my thoughts on this old old country of Egypt.Pollution: this is the first country I've been in where I actually wish I thought to bring a SARS mask. My allergies were constantly on red alert. 18 million people in Cairo alone... So many emissions... Atchoo...Driving: as our driver pointed out, "you need steel heart to drive in Egypt". Lane markings are a suggestion only, and if a car can fit in a space, it will! The pedestrians are brave souls, and cross the street as if they have no regard for their own lives. One taxi driver told me, "if today is the day you die, that is Allah's will!". Yeah, okay.Tourism: things are not as clearly labelled as I would have liked, and the locals don't really speak english all that well... That being said, forking out the cash for a good guide is definitely worth it. Test his english! The guide I had was an old man, 55, so he was very knowledgable about all things Cairo and Giza. Only one tomb is worth seeing, but it is incredible. The ruins are beautiful, but it's easy to overdo it... I'm sick of ruins...Cost: cheap country. 1 USD = 5.5 Egyptian Pounds, so money goes far. However EVERYBODY will try to get money off of you. Beggars, doormen, train station workers, everyone. Don't walk into a shop without intent to buy. They know we have a lot of money compared to them and will wear you down with "discounts" till you finally believe you really need a statue of a scarab that glows in the dark! There goes $25...Pyramids: simply amazing. Photos aren't enough. You see them, you touch them, you climb them (if security isn't watching) and you breathe the same air that was breathed by the workers that built them 5,000 years ago... I was lucky and could even see the pyramids from my hotel balcony! Simply beautiful...People: I never felt scared in Egypt. The people are friendly and will do their best to help you even if they can't speak English. Just be prepared to be asked for compensation! I also didn't find any Cleopatras... The woman not that beautiful to be honest... Best looking was the tourists! :-)In all this is a country that should be visited by all, but make sure you have a plan! I didn't know about the boat trip from Aswan to Luxor... I really wish I had the time to do it. Also note that there are certain trains that are Egyptian only. Why, I don't know, so make sure you verify availability well in advance for the tourist trains (otherwise known as "First Class"). Another warning. The starting price offered by ANY seller is a blatant lie. That's why your starting price must also be a complete lie. If you think it costs $10, start at $2. Seriously. And if you don't need it, walk away. They have a way of making white elephants look completely necessary to your daily survival! I hope to go back someday to do the previously mentioned trip along the Nile... And the pyramids are worth seeing again. :-) goodbye Egypt!

The Sphinx At the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada

The Sphinx At the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada

This is a photograph that I took of the sphinx that guards the entrance to the Luxor Hotel in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. The hotel sits at the Southern end of "the strip" and is an interesting landmark.

The concept and the name of the hotel is based on the ancient Egyptian city of Luxor. Construction on the hotel began in 1991 at a cost of over 300 million dollars. The pyramid took over 2 years to build. The grounds of the hotel have a replica of the Nile River and numerous Egyptian statues.

Le Marais is a historic district in Paris, France. Long the aristocratic district of Paris it hosts many outstanding architectural buildings. It spreads across parts of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements in Paris (on the Rive Droite, or Right Bank of the Seine).
The rue des Rosiers is still a major centre of the Paris Jewish community, which has met a renewal since the 1990s. Public notices announce Jewish events, bookshops specialize in Jewish books and numerous restaurants and other outlets sell kosher food.
The Marais is one of Paris' main localization for art galleries. Following its rehabilitation, the Marais has become a fashionable district, home to many trendy restaurants, fashion houses and hype galleries.

Thursday

During my visit to Langkawi, I stay at AB Motel at Pantai Chenang, Langkawi. There were a lot of motel, challet, hotel and others for you to stay if you go there for a vacation. Just a reminder for you guys, please don't go to the cheapest price for you to stay there because you'll regret it. Believe me.

Pantai Chenang was full with people playing and activities during my visit there. There were people playing beach football, banana boat, photo shoot, sun bathing and a lot more.

One main different that i noticed between my hometown, Pantai Port Dickson and Pantai Chenang was the SAND. Pantai Chenang's sand was so soft and it's better to bare foot rather than walking using shoes or sandal.

This picture was taken around 6.00 p.m before sunset. Oh ya..at Langkawi, sun set at around 7.15 p.m. Kinda late. Later i'll upload the sun set picture.
