Madame Madeleine Castaing
Madame Madeleine Castaing Castaing, who died in 1992 at 98, camouflaged her unreconstructed face with Folies-Bergere flair, recklessly deploying bold red lip liner, false eyelashes so long they compromised her vision, and a pageboy-bob wig held in place with a startlingly obvious black elastic chin strap. This photo was made in the summer of her 96th year. She sat in this chair in her shop nodding at people. The chin strap and the painted on eyelashes became more of an attraction than her shop itself.
