In his consideration of the language of the fashion magazine--the structural analysis of descriptions of women's clothing by writers about fashion--Barthes gives us a brief history of semiology. At the same time, he identifies economics as the underlying reason for the luxuriant prose of the fashion magazine: "Calculating, industrial society is obliged to form consumers who don't calculate; if clothing's producers and consumers had the same consciousness, clothing would be bought (and produced) only at the very slow rate of its dilapidation."

A content management system (CMS) is a computer application used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a consistently organized fashion.[1] CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, versioning, and publishing industry-specific documentation such as news articles, operators' manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, and marketing brochures. The content managed may include computer files, image media, audio files, video files, electronic documents, and Web content.
A CMS may support the following features:
identification of all key users and their content management roles;
the ability to assign roles and responsibilities to different content categories or types;
definition of workflow tasks for collaborative creation, often coupled with event messaging so that content managers are alerted to changes in content (For example, a content creator submits a story, which is published only after the copy editor revises it and the editor-in-chief approves it.);
the ability to track and manage multiple versions of a single instance of content;
the ability to capture content (e.g. scanning);
the ability to publish the content to a repository to support access to the content (Increasingly, the repository is an inherent part of the system, and incorporates enterprise search and retrieval.);
separation of content's semantic layer from its layout (For example, the CMS may automatically set the color, fonts, or emphasis of text.).

The Castle Hotel is visible on the right, and in the background can be seen the White Cross Hotel. The White Cross Hotel is still operating, but the Castle Hotel is not.

The card was posted in Barnes on the 28th. September 1934 to a man whose address was The Governor's House, H.M. Prison, Wakefield, Yorks.

So what else happened on the day that the card was posted?

Well, Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot was born in Paris. Brigitte is a former French fashion model, actress and singer.

In her early life, Brigitte was an aspiring ballet dancer. She started her acting career in 1952 and after appearing in 16 films, became world-famous due to her role in her then-husband Roger Vadim's controversial film 'And God Created Woman'.

She starred in Jean-Luc Goddard's 1963 cult film 'Contempt'.

Bardot caught the attention of French intellectuals. She was the subject of Simone de Beauvoir's 1959 essay, 'The Lolita Syndrome', which described Brigitte as a 'locomotive of women's history', and built on existentialist themes to declare her the first and most liberated woman of post-war France.

She retired from the entertainment industry in 1973. During her career she starred in 47 films and recorded 80 songs.

After her retirement, Brigitte established herself as an animal rights activist.

At the time of writing (15 Sept. 2011) she is still going strong at the age of 76, shortly to be 77.

Dandies: Fashion and Finesse in Art and Culture considers the visual languages, politics, and poetics of personal appearance. Dandyism has been most closely associated with influential caucasian Western men-about-town, epitomized by the 19th century style-setting of Oscar Wilde and by Tom Wolfe's white suits. The essays collected here, however, examine the spectacle and workings of dandyism to reveal that these were not the only dandies. On the contrary, art historians, literary and cultural historians, and anthropologists identify unrecognized dandies flourishing among early 19th century Native Americans, in Soviet Latvia, in Africa, throughout the African-American diaspora, among women, and in the art world.
Moving beyond historical and fictional accounts of dandies, this volume juxtaposes theoretical models with evocative images and descriptions of clothing in order to link sartorial self-construction with artistic, social, and political self-invention. Taking into consideration the vast changes in thinking about identity in the academy, Dandies provides a compelling study of dandyism's destabilizing aesthetic enterprise.
