  • (Power Filters) These are usually external filters attached to the back of the tank. With its own power motor, it sucks water from the tank, passes the water through a sponge (or glass wool and activated carbon), and pumps the filtered water back into the tank.

Inside is a homemade opto-coupler. A pair of ir photosensors and ir LED's form a bridge to isolate the micro-controller from the 24VAC thermostat lines.

The signal is not filtered as well as it should be, so the micro-controller had to be programmed for some heavy duty debouncing (single rectified AC creates a flashing light which the controller is fast enough to miss).



Photo of all the parts including the powersupply. At the bottom is the angled piece of PVC which is cemented to the intake of the DC fan. The output has a plate screwed on to it. Attached to this plate is a filter to remove the noxious gases.
