Traffic exchange !

A traffic exchange is a type of website which provides a service for webmasters in exchange for traffic. It is similar to the autosurf concept with the exception that traffic exchanges usually use a manual rotation.

A traffic exchange website receives website submissions from webmasters that join traffic exchange networks. The person who submitted the website then has to browse other member sites on the exchange program to earn credits, which enable their sites to be viewed by other members through the surf system. This increases the number of visitors to all the sites involved.
Exchanges enforce a certain credit ratio, which illustrates the amount of websites the surfer must view in order to receive one hit through the program for their promoted website. Many sites offer the ability to upgrade one's membership level for a more equal credit ratio.
As the viewers are all website owners or affiliates, it is possible that some might find certain member sites interesting and thus make note of them on their own sites, sending more traffic their way. Most traffic programs also impose a time limit when members are browsing, ranging from 10 seconds to 60 seconds. Some incorporate the use of captcha to ensure user interaction.
Almost all traffic exchange programs are free, although many of them offer special features to paid members and offer credits for purchase. Almost all traffic exchange programs encourage users to build their own referral networks, which in turn increases the referrers' amount of credits.
The traffic generated in a traffic exchange can be leveraged by using a downline builder to assist the user in building a referral network in the many different traffic exchanges.
In practice, traffic exchange programs are generally used by small business owners or marketers who either want free advertising or use the exchange programs for low-budget advertisement campaigns. Also, a small number of users may simply purchase credits because of their typically low price. Some are free, some ask you to pay. Some pay the members just for viewing the pages, while others provide faster browsing and good ratios like 1:1 for upgraded accounts and to make is easier to upgrade they have advertisers that will pay for a paid membership letting the member get better benefits for free.

Free Traffic from Yahoo

Place a link in Yahoo! Answers "sources".

At Yahoo! Answers, the people who answer provide free answers.

Answer some questions there. In your answers, you can list "sources"
(links) for more details.

The "asker" can vote a particular answer the "Best Answer" and that answer
is given special prominence. Other users can vote, too.

If you click on the "Report Abuse" link and check the available categories,
you'l see that "advertisements" are banned. However, I've spotted some
affiliate links posted as sources.

Rather than posting an affiliate link, I think it would be more useful - and
natural - to link to your own website, perhaps to a newsletter sign-up page
or to a page offering a free report.

Make visitors stay at your website

The very first thing which you should provide the visitors with is some free interesting reading material. So in order to read the content they will have to stay on your website. You can give some sort of bonus to the visitors for clicking some of your link. You can offer them some free books or small gifts to them for showing interest in your website.

You should always try to align the content on your website in such a manner that the readers are prompted to read the whole content for gaining the information. Another point regarding the contents is that it should be written such that people get involved into it and don’t get distracted by any other thing. Try to provide the visitors with interesting options such as searching etc which will make their work easy.

Provide the visitors with some sort of conference room where they can go and debate about some subject in which they are interested. Do not forget to add a FAQ (frequently asked question) column on your website so that if any visitor wants to know anything than he or she can either get the answer from there or he or she can write to you.

Your website should be such that surfing is very easy for any visitor. The visitor shouldn’t have to put in much effort to get what he or she wants or otherwise he or she will leave your website and switch over to some other one. You should also provide visitors with some other entertaining stuff such as game or books so that they don’t get bored while surfing your site.

Generally all websites have some links to other pages. But if these links get broken then they can really frustrate and irritate the visitor making him or her leave your site. The last but not the least point which you should always remember is that you should always try to design your website in such a way that it looks attractive to anybody who sees it. You can make use of bright colors and pictures to good effects.

Top Search Engines

Ok, so you may know how the Search Engines work and you may know that you need to be listed by them, but do you know which engines get you more bang for the buck? We will review the top Search Engines on the Internet today.
Google
http://www.google.com/
Google has increased in popularity tenfold the past several years. They have gone from beta testing, to becoming the Internet's largest index of web pages in a very short time. Their spider, affectionately named "Googlebot", crawls the web and provides updates to Google's index about once a month.

Google.com began as an academic Search Engine. Google, by far, has a very good algorithm of ranking pages returned from a result, probably one of the main reasons it has become so popular over the years. Google has several methods which determine page rank in returned searches.

Yahoo
http://www.yahoo.com/

Yahoo! is one of the oldest web directories and portals on the Internet today, and the site went live in August of 1994. Yahoo! is a 100% human edited directory, and provides secondary search results using Google.

Yahoo! is also one of the largest traffic generators around, as far as web directories and Search Engines go. Unfortunately, however, it is also one of the most difficult to get listed in, unless of course you pay to submit your site. Even if you pay it doesn't guarantee you will get listed.

Either way, if you suggest a URL, it is "reviewed" by a Yahoo! editor, and if approved will appear in the next index update.

AltaVista
http://www.altavista.com/

Many who have access to web logs may have seen a spider named 'scooter' accessing their pages. Scooter used to be a newer form of Scooter is now crawling the web. Whichever spider AltaVista uses, it is one of the largest Search Engines on the net today, next to Google.

It will usually take several months for AltaVista to index your entire site, although the past few months scooter hasn't been deep crawling too well. Unlike Google, AltaVista will only crawl and index 1 link deep, so it takes a good amount of time to index your site depending on how large your site is.

AltaVista gets most of its results from its own index, however they do pull the top 5 results of each search from Overture.

Lycos
http://www.lycos.com/

Lycos is one of the oldest Search Engines on the Internet today, next to Altavista and Yahoo. Their spider, named "T-Rex", crawls the web and provides updates to the Lycos index from time to time. The FAST crawler provides results for Lycos in addition to its own database.

The Lycos crawler does not weigh META tags to heavily, instead it relies on its own ranking algorithm to rank pages returned in results. The URL, META title, text headings, and word frequency are just a few of the methods Lycos uses to rank pages. Lycos does support pages with Frame content. However, any page that isn't at least 75 words in content is not indexed.

AOL Search
http://www.aol.com/

America Online signed a multiyear pact with Google for Web search results and accompanying ad-sponsored links, ending relationships with pay-for-performance service Overture Services and Inktomi, its algorithmic search provider of nearly three years.

Automated Linking & Link Exchange

In order to take advantage of the need for inbound links to rank well in the search engines, a number of automatic link exchange services have been launched. Members of these schemes will typically agree to have several links added to all their web pages in return for getting similar links back from other sites.

An alternative to the automated linking above is a link exchange forum, in which members will advertise the sites that they want to get links to, and will in turn offer reciprocal or three way links back to the sites that link to them.

Controlling web traffic

The amount of traffic seen by a web site is a measure of its popularity. By analysing the statistics of visitors it is possible to see shortcomings of the site and look to improve those areas. It is also possible to increase (or, in some cases decrease) the popularity of a site and the number of people that visit it.
[Limiting access
It is sometimes important to protect some parts of a site by password, allowing only authorised people to visit particular sections or pages.
Some site administrators have chosen to block their page to specific traffic, such as by geographic location. The re-election campaign site for U.S. President George W. Bush (GeorgeWBush.com) was blocked to all internet users outside of the U.S. on 25 October 2004 after a reported attack on the site.[1]
It is also possible to limit access to a web server both based on the number of connections and by the bandwidth expended by each connection. On Apache HTTP servers, this is accomplished by the limitipconn module and others.
[Increase web site traffic
Web traffic can be increased by placement of a site in search engines and purchase of advertising, including bulk e-mail, pop-up ads, and in-page advertisements. Web traffic can also be increased by purchasing non-internet based advertising.
If a web page is not listed in the first pages of any search, the odds of someone finding it diminishes greatly (especially if there is other competition on the first page). Very few people go past the first page, and the percentage that go to subsequent pages is substantially lower. Consequently, getting proper placement on search engines is as important as the web site itself.
There are a number of other things you can do to increase your web traffic, including but not limited to building link popularity, webrings, offering free e-books or articles and classified advertisements.
Of the above mentioned items, perhaps the easiest one to do is building link popularity. This can be accomplished by writing e-mails to sites similar to yours and asking if they would link to your site. The second way of increasing your web traffic is writing to e-zines or to free article sites. There are many sites which will accept your written material, the catch is that you are giving it away for free. The benefit however is that you get to include a link to your site in the article. Meaning every time someone clicks on your link, it brings free traffic to your site. Pixel ads can bring traffic to your site but usually will not get you a targeted audience.
[Organic traffic
Web traffic which comes from unpaid listing at search engines or directories is commonly known as "organic" traffic. Organic traffic can be generated or increased by including the web site in directories (such as Yahoo! and DMOZ), search engines (such as Google and Inktomi), guides (such as yellow pages and restaurant guides) and award sites.
In most cases the best way to increase web traffic is to register it with the major search engines. Just registering does not guarantee traffic, as search engines work by "crawling" registered web sites. These crawling programs (crawlers) are also known as "spiders" or "robots". Crawlers start at the registered home page, and usually follow the hyperlinks it finds, to get to pages inside the web site (internal links). Crawlers start gathering information about those pages and storing it and indexing it in the search engine database. In every case, they index the page URL and the page title. In most cases they also index the web page header (meta tag) and a certain amount of the text of the page. Then, when a search engine user looks for a particular word or phrase, the search engine looks into the database and produces the results, usually sorted by relevance according to the search engine algorithms.
Usually, the top organic result gets most of the clicks from web users. According to some studies [citation needed], the top result gets between 5% and 10% of the clicks. Each subsequent result gets between 30% and 60% of the clicks of the previous one. This indicates that it is important to appear in the top results. There are some companies which specialize in search engine marketing. However, it is becoming common for webmasters to get approached by "boiler-room" companies with no real knowledge of how to get results. As opposed to pay-per-click, search engine marketing is usually paid monthly or annually, and most search engine companies cannot promise specific results for what is paid to them.
Because of the huge amount of information available on the web, crawlers might take days, weeks or months to complete review and index all the pages they find. Google, for example, as of the end of 2004 had indexed over eight billion pages. Even having hundreds or thousands of servers working on the spidering of pages, a complete reindexing takes its time. That is why some pages recently updated in certain web sites are not immediately found when doing searches on search engines.

How the search and the ranking system works?

As important as it is to gain a listing in Yahoo, you won't profit much from it if you're listed in a way that makes it impossible to find your site. In order to be able to make your site more visible, you'll have to know a thing or two about how Yahoo works.

There are two ways a person can use to find your site at Yahoo. The first is to browse the categories and find the one your site is placed in. The other, often faster way, is to use the search feature located at the top of Yahoo's front page. In this chapter, we'll first examine how the order of sites in the categories is determined. After that, we'll move on to the search feature.

Categories
Yahoo arranges the sites in each of the categories with the same, relatively simple method. If you go and take a look, you'll notice that the sites are listed alphabetically by title. Even though the order is in most cases based on this rule, there are a few exceptions that you should be aware of.

Most popular
In many categories, there are a handful of sites listed under a heading called "Most popular". Being located among them has two advantages. One, in addition to that listing, you'll also get to keep your regular listing under the "Alphabetical" heading.

Two, sites under the "Most popular" heading are above all other sites, excluding possible sponsored ones. This makes it easier for people to find you, especially if the title of your site does not begin with an A, B or C.

So, what decides which site gets a "Most popular" status and which does not? Unfortunately, I've been unable to find a truly accurate answer to that question. However, click popularity has been said to play a large part in the process. Also, it has been noticed that the sites under "Most popular" tend to have a few things in common. They're usually well-known, large sites that have high link popularity and a high Google PageRank.

At the moment, there seems to be no "magic potion" for giving your site "Most popular" status. Fortunately, if you spend time creating a title that begins with a number or a letter that is close to the beginning of the alphabet, you'll be listed near the top anyhow.

If new information surfaces, I'll update this article. For now, I suggest working on your click popularity and link popularity / PageRank if you want to become one of the most popular.

Surf More Programs With Firefox

Surfing multiple autosurfs simultaneously is a potential hazzle - Unless you use Firefox with Google Toolbar.

The function tabbed browsing not only reduces the windows used to surf, but it makes it possible to avoid the browser to pop up every time a new page loads.
Just open a new tab - empty or with a static page - and be sure to leave that tab in front. Don't minimize the window, it will only pop back up. But this way, it will not pop up in front if left maximized.

Now, if your bandwidth and computer allows it, you are able to do pretty much anything you want, with out beeing disturbed by the never ending browser windows popping up.

The google toolbar - and many other plug ins and add ons - are available to download once you have installed the software.

Getting Traffic from Alexa

1. First and foremost, add the Alexa Site Stats Button to your site, if your site ranking is high, flaunt it in a visible spot. Even if your site ranking is not high, the toolbar will act as a constant motivator for you to be a active blogger.

2. Add Alexa Toolbar to your own site and let your readers know that it also blocks pop-ups!

3. Find out your competitor’s ranking. If yours is higher, display a comparative traffic graph proudly on your site with Alexa’s free traffic graph banner.

4. Alexa is owned by Amazon. The reviews done on Alexa can be a part of your Amazon profile. If you don’t have an Amazon profile, get it now!

5. If you have an associate ID, Amazon will include your ID in your link. Also, any purchases made at Amazon using the new Alexa toolbar will earn you commissions.

6. Thank your customers and well-wishers for writing good Alexa/Amazon reviews for you. You can also thank your customers by providing them a discount or a free gift. This might encourage them to be a repeat publisher for you!

7. Once you establish a friendly base with your new customers, you could request permission to re-publish the review on your own site as a testimonial. Even better if the individual/site who reviews your site is more reputed than yours, or at least as good as your own.

8. If your site traffic increased by adding affiliate products to your site, highlight it with the free dynamic Alexa traffic graph and encourage others to be your sub-affiliates. High traffic could translate into high sales.

9. Keep a track of the upcoming and current trends by visiting the global top 500 sites on Alexa’s homepage. If you want to capitalise on the difference in economies in different countries, I would recommend a thorough study of country-specific top sites.

10. Last but not the least, do visit Alexa at least once or twice a day!

More Surfers More Visitors

When you have surfed, surfed and surfed - You probably have a whole lot of credits saved up. It is time to allocate them.

Some of the traffic exchanges can deliver as many visitors as you want, but others don't have as many users. When you allocate your credits on these programs, you need to take close look on the activities on the traffic exchange
Before yopu allocate, you should do some surfing. Don't have to be much, just enough to get a general idea of:

Are you seeing the same page(s) over and over again?
This could be because it is only a few sites currently in rotation. If you allocate your credits now, odds are the others surfing will see your page to often. Of course you want every surfer to see your site - perhaps even a few times - but not over and over.

Are there few users currently surfing?
If there are to few users, the same as above will apply.

Take another minute to think about your own site:
Is everything in order?
Links working, images loading and so forth
Can you handle the traffic?
Having your credits blown on Bandwidth exceeded pages from your host won't do you any good.

Other than this, you need to look at your results. If the traffic recieved don't meet your excpectations - It might be time to change your tactics.....Or your pages.

Generate Traffic By Free Methods

Putting up a company would of course require a lot of things, to get straight to the point, you need a capital. To make money requires money as well. But of course, with the versatility the Internet offers, there are many ways you could find that could help optimize the potential of your site or business in generating traffic.

While there are ways to jumpstart your traffic flows, many sites don’t have the resources that others have to generate more traffic for your site. Well, you don’t have to spend a cent; all you need is the proper mindset and a lot of eagerness. You also must have the drive and perseverance to do hard work and research to generate more traffic for your site.

How sweet it is to have more traffic for your site without spending a single cent. Now it’s a sure thing that many sites have articles that offer tips and guidelines in how to generate traffic using only free methods. Because it is possible, you don’t need to speed a single cent, it may take time, to say honestly, I’m not going to beat around the bush with you. You get better chances by paying for your advertisements, but at least you get a fighting chance with some of these free methods I’m about to tell you.

Take advantage of online forums and online communities. The great thing about forums and online communities is that you can target a certain group that fits the certain demographic that you are looking for. You can discuss about lots of things about the niche that you represent or offer. Another great advantage is that you know what you are getting into and you will be prepared.

With online communities and forums you can build a reputation for your company. Show them what you are made of and wow them with your range of expertise about the subject, with that you can build a reputation and build trust with the people in your expertise and knowledge.

You can also make use of newsletters. Provide people with a catalog of your products and interesting and entertaining articles. If you make it really interesting and entertaining, more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it to other people. The more people who signs up for your newsletter, the more people there will be that will go to your site increasing your traffic.

While the first two methods above have been discussed briefly earlier, here’s another:

Another great idea is trading links with other sites. You don’t have to spend a cent. All you have to do is reach an agreement with another webmaster. With exchanging links, the efforts both sites do will benefit both sites. Every traffic that goes to the site could potentially click on the link of your site and visit your site as well. This works well especially when both sites feature the same niche.

Write articles that could pique the attention of people that have interest in your product. Try writing articles that will provide tips and guides to other aficionados. Writing articles that provide good service and knowledge to other people would provide the necessary mileage your traffic flow needs.

Many sites offer free submission and posting of your articles. When people find interest in your articles they have a good chance of following the track by finding out where the article originated. Include a link or a brief description of your company with the article and there’s a great probability that they will go to your site.

Write good content for your site. Many Search Engines track down the keywords and keyword phrases your site uses and how they are used. It is not a requirement that a content should be done by a professional content writer. You could do your on but you have to make content for your site that is entertaining as well as informational. It should provide certain requirements as well as great quality.

Use TE For Free Traffic

Traffic exchanges, or manual surfs as some call it are pretty much based on the same ideas as autosurfs.

The big difference being auto vs. manual surfing. When you are using traffic exchanges, you manually click a button to view next site.
Using these exchanges can be very tiresome, but in return you get traffic of much better quality than autosurf traffic.

Obviously the visitors viewing your site have to be in front of the screen.
If you are a little bit imaginative - you can easily convert some autosurf traffic to actual visitors from any of these exchanges.

If you don't do the obvious - actual surfing and clicking - you really need to promote the traffic exchanges for them to be really lucrative.
Using multiple traffic exchanges - giving them each a few hundred hits from each of your autosurfs will at the very least earn you credits, and at best build you a nice downline.

There are many different exchanges, offering similar services. What to focus on are a few things:
• Surf ratio
• Maximum outhits
• Surfing speed

If you are sending autosurf traffic their way, you also need to look at:
• Credits per unique referral hit
• Referral potential
Just as the autosurfs - The traffic exchanges will offer you to upgrade, gaining various advantages.

If you already are using these programs, you should consider adding the autosurf programs to your arsenal as well.

How to choose your site Meta data?!

The best tool you can use to find your site suitable key words is Google Adwords tool which contains a Key word tool.

You can let the tool to read your website content and choose the suitable key words for you (Website content option (recommended) ) or you write some key word that you think it fit in your site major (Descriptive words or phrases option).

The tool will generates some key words and give estimate average search volume in each word and the competition you may have if you used this word.

As a start I recommend you to use the words that have low competition (that means some of the site use the word or know about which will give some extra free visitors)

Getting listings

The leading search engines, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results. Pages that are linked from other search engine indexed pages do not need to be submitted because they are found automatically. Some search engines, notably Yahoo!, operate a paid submission service that guarantee crawling for either a set fee or cost per click. Such programs usually guarantee inclusion in the database, but do not guarantee specific ranking within the search results. Yahoo's paid inclusion program has drawn criticism from advertisers and competitors. Two major directories, the Yahoo Directory and the Open Directory Project both require manual submission and human editorial review. Google offers Google Sitemaps, for which an XML type feed can be created and submitted for free to ensure that all pages are found, especially pages that aren't discoverable by automatically following links.
Search engine crawlers may look at a number of different factors when crawling a site. Not every page is indexed by the search engines. Distance of pages from the root directory of a site may also be a factor in whether or not pages get crawled.
Preventing listings
To avoid undesirable search listings, webmasters can instruct spiders not to crawl certain files or directories through the standard robots.txt file in the root directory of the domain. Additionally, a page can be explicitly excluded from a search engine's database by using a meta tag specific to robots. When a search engine visits a site, the robots.txt located in the root directory is the first file crawled. The robots.txt file is then parsed, and will instruct the robot as to which pages are not to be crawled. As a search engine crawler may keep a cached copy of this file, it may on occasion crawl pages a webmaster does not wish crawled. Pages typically prevented from being crawled include login specific pages such as shopping carts and user-specific content such as search results from internal searches. In March 2007, Google warned webmasters that they should prevent indexing of internal search results because those pages are considered search spam.

How to get more backlinks?

Post comments in other blogs. When you add a comment in a blog and when you add your blog´s URL a new backlinks is created, but try to post comments only in those somehow related to what your blog is about, don’t start posting in each blog you find out there. Contribute with the community, that´s what the blogging business is all about.

Link Exchange. It is important that you exchange links only with related sites. If a site has nothing to do with your site a reciprocal backlink from it will serve little to no purpose. Post an entry and let people know that you are open for link exchanges.

Join forums. And contribute posting comments, use your URL as your signature, try to participate in the hottest threads, don’t start posting comments without content just to get backlinks because it is probably that your entry will be deleted by a moderator.

Link Baiting. If you don’t know what this means, it is when you write a controversial or a very interesting post or article that catches the attention of a large audience that wants to blog about that, this is going to generate automatic free backlinks. Write a creative post, this kind of links are very important because people are choosing to link to you, what gives your blog an extra value.

Submit articles. If you know a lot about something write an article for free distribution, or for reprint, and submit it to free article directories.

What's GoogleBot?

A Googlebot is a search bot used by Google. It collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google search engine.
If a webmaster wishes to restrict the information on their site available to a Googlebot, or another well-behaved spider, they can do so with the appropriate directives in a robots.txt file, and by adding the meta tag to the webpage. Googlebot requests to Web servers are discernible from their user-agent string 'Googlebot'.
Googlebot has two versions, deepbot and freshbot. Deepbot, the deep crawler, tries to follow every link on the web and download as many pages as it can to the Google indexers. It completes this process about once a month. Freshbot crawls the web looking for fresh content. It visits websites that change frequently, according to how frequently they change. Currently Googlebot only follows HREF links and SRC links.
Googlebot discovers pages by harvesting all of the links on every page it finds. It then follows these links to other web pages. New web pages must be linked to from another known page on the web in order to be crawled and indexed.
A problem which webmasters have often noted with the Googlebot is that it takes up an enormous amount of bandwidth. This can cause websites to exceed their bandwidth limit and be taken down temporarily. This is especially troublesome for mirror sites which host many gigabytes of data. Google provides "Webmaster Tools" that allow website owners to throttle the crawl rate.

Traffic Overload

Too much web traffic can dramatically slow down or even prevent all access to a web site. This is caused by more file requests going to the server than it can handle and may be an intentional attack on the site or simply caused by over-popularity. Large scale web sites with numerous servers can often cope with the traffic required and it is more likely that smaller services are affected by traffic overload.
Denial of service attacks
Denial-of-service attacks (DoS attacks) have forced web sites to close after a malicious attack, flooding the site with more requests than it could cope with. Viruses have also been used to co-ordinate large scale distributed denial-of-service attacks.
Sudden popularity
A sudden burst of publicity may accidentally cause a web traffic overload. A news item in the media, a quickly propagating email, or a link from a popular site may cause such a boost in visitors (sometimes called a flash crowd) that overwhelms the site.
Web sites have been forced to close after an unexpected mass increase of traffic, particularly those run by an individual leasing the bandwidth from an ISP or hosting site. Some sites backed by large companies running their own servers have also been caught out by the problems of overpopularity. When first announced, the Vision of Britain Through Time site, containing information taken from the 1901 UK census, was advertised on numerous television programmes and causing such interest that the site had to be taken offline until different arrangements were made to cope with the traffic. The site was hosted by a project at the University of Edinburgh and they had not foreseen the amount of bandwidth and the server load that would be required. Ironically, by the time the site was able to cope with the traffic both the interest and the free advertisements of the site had greatly slowed, giving them excess capacity.
