ACCOMMODATION IN BANGKOK

Today is Cooktown to Mareeba and beyond if we can find accommodation
:ovely sealed roads 100-110km. Hardly any other traffic. We met a couple on a Harley at the garage who we met again later at one of the scenic lookouts. They were doing and overnighter in Cooktown and home to Townsville in the next day or two.
There were a few caravans, 4 wds and motorhomes but all so well spaced that you didn’t see them unless you stopped.
Mareeba for lunch at a coffee shop. Quick hour at the local internet cafe to try and get some computer stuff sorted , but no luck, wouldn’t let us upload or download.
While we were there we found another couple of possible accommodation sights so decided to push on towards Normanton and see how far we could get.
Came through Atherton, beautiful wee place, lovely state forest, with great winding roads. Signs now telling us to watch out for 30metre road trains. Unfortunately just after this we got separated. I took a turn off the route – that was what the sign said and Trevor went straight on. After a lot of panic and a couple of non existent cell phone calls, due to bad cell reception and a dead battery we crossed each others path ? hr later in Ravenshoe. Panic over , next stop probably Mt Garnet for the night. We reached there about 4pm, found another caravan park, Take away burgers from the local shop and settled for the night. Signs here are now saying watch out for 53metre road trains.

Cooktown lies on the Endeavour River Estuary. The town, named after Captain Cook and the estuary, his boat. A days journey by inland road from Mossman and Cairns, Queensland, Australia. An excellent town, worth a visit or stay due to its relative isolation and history. An excellent museum and botanical gardens.
