Michelin Guide 2009 New York (Michelin Guide New York City) (Michelin Guide New York City) (Michelin Guide New York City) (Michelin Guide New York City (Red Guide))
MICHELIN Guide New York City 2009 helps those eating in the Big Apple solve the New York City culinary paradox of corner diners and exquisite star-rated restaurants. Covering 565 recommended restaurants for all budgets and cuisines including 100 new listings this year the 2009 Red Guide is the ideal resource for both locals and visitors looking for that perfect spot. All establishments covered in the guide are recommended by Michelin s expert inspectors, so you can book reservations to any listing with confidence; you don t have to wade through confusing or mediocre reviews to try to determine which place is worth your time and money.
The MICHELIN Guide New York City follows a proven formula that has withstood the test of time. Michelin employs full-time local professional inspectors that work anonymously so they are treated the same as other diners. Michelin inspectors check back on previously reviewed establishments and the guide s content is updated accordingly. Starred restaurants are inspected several times a year. Since few culinary honors are as prestigious as a Michelin star rating, restaurants that earn them are sure to consistently offer a superior dining experience so they retain their star rating from year to year.
The guide describes ambience and cuisine for all entries, while restaurants that merit a Michelin star rating will also have a menu selection and color photos. For those with less than a three-star budget, a Bib Gourmand category includes the inspectors favorite places to eat for under $40; that s about 80 restaurants in this year s guide.
In addition to top restaurants, the MICHELIN Red Guide also reviews places to stay, from budget to deluxe. The 2009 Guide features approximately 60 hotels, each held to the same high standards that have made Michelin famous for over a hundred years.
Features: Expert reviews of 565 restaurants across the five boroughs and 60 Manhattan hotels to suit every budget. Anonymous, professional local inspectors recommend each establishment. New color map format makes finding the location you need easier than ever. Star-rated restaurants feature both menu highlights and full-color photos. Neighborhood and regional overviews illuminate local history and culinary traditions. Detailed descriptions of each listing provide the reader with a picture of everything from the ambience to the cuisine. The Bib Gourmand category indicates the inspectors favorite restaurants for good value.

- Office is the nerve-centre of British government administration in Northern Ireland. Until recently, it was responsible for the running of all government departments in Northern Ireland.
- A province of the United Kingdom that occupies the northeastern part of Ireland, comprised of six counties of Ulster; pop. 1,570,000; capital, Belfast. It was established as a self-governing province in 1920, after refusing to be part of the Irish Free State. Domination by the Protestant majority and discrimination against the Roman Catholic minority led to violent conflicts and, from 1969, British army units were present in an attempt to keep the peace. Terrorism and sectarian violence by the Provisional IRA and other paramilitary groups, both Republican and Loyalist, resulted in the imposition of direct rule from London in 1972. Multi-party talks begun in 1996 led to an agreement between most political parties in 1998. In 1999, a devolved parliament was inaugurated, with representation from both Nationalist and Unionist groups

Belfast - Base Of The Ring Of Thanksgiving
Description
This sculpture is one of the tallest in Ireland measuring 19.5 metres. It celebrates the spirit of thanksgiving and regeneration symbolic of Belfast's future. The female figure holds a ring of thanksgiving and the globe at her feet refers to universal peace and harmony and the names of the cities which the people of Belfast migrated to.
Artist Biography
Sculptor Andy Scott graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1987. He is a figurative sculptor who works in steel and bronze, combining traditional figurative symbolism with contemporary fabrication techniques.
The City Hall, was finished in 1906 and was built to reflect Belfast’s City status, granted by Queen Victoria in 1888. The Dome is 53 metres (173 ft) high. Figures above the door are “Hibernia encouraging and promoting the Commerce and Arts of the City”. Among the city's grandest buildings are two former banks: Ulster Bank (1860), in Waring Street and Northern Bank (1769), in nearby Donegall Street. The Royal Courts of Justice in Chichester Street are home to Northern Ireland's Supreme Court. Some of Belfast's oldest buildings still remain in the Cathedral Quarter area, which is currently undergoing redevelopment as the city's main cultural and tourist area.
The world's largest dry dock is located in the city, and the giant cranes (Samson and Goliath) of the Harland and Wolff shipyard, builders of the Titanic, can be seen from afar.
The four star Europa Hotel, located in the City Centre, was bombed twenty-seven times during the troubles and is among one of the most bombed hotels in Europe. Across the street, the ornately decorated Crown Liquor Saloon in Great Victoria Street is notable as being the only bar owned by the National Trust. The panels used in the restaurant on the first floor were meant for Brittanic, the sister ship of the Titanic. It was made internationally famous as the setting for the classic film, Odd Man Out, starring James Mason.
Belfast also contains the tallest building (as distinct from structure) on the island of Ireland. Windsor House stands at 80 metres (262 ft) and has twenty-three floors. Once completed, the Obel Tower will surpass Windsor House, although a taller building than this has been given planning permission in Dublin. In January 2007 plans were submitted to build the Aurora Tower on Great Victoria Street, which will be 37 storeys high. At 109m (358 ft) high it will house 290 luxury apartments and be 28m (92 ft) higher than the Obel Tower.
The Albert Clock stands at the end of High Street, and was designed by William J. Barre and built in memory of Queen Victoria's Prince Consort, Prince Albert. The clock stands 35 m high, was built on land reclaimed from the river, and leans 1.25 m off the vertical. The Linen Hall Library in Donegall Square North is Belfast’s oldest library, founded in 1788 to acquire 'philosophical apparatus and such productions of nature and art as are calculated to enlarge knowledge'.
St George's Market, built between 1890 and 1896, is Belfast's last surviving Victorian covered market. It was restored at a cost of ?4.5 million in 1997, and hosts regular Friday and Saturday markets.
Near the Market is Saint Malachy's Catholic Church. Built between 1841 and 1844, it is built in the Tudor Revival style and is unique in Ireland. It is also one of only two buildings remaining in Belfast which was constructed with hand-made bricks. Hamilton Street is a Georgian terrace in the Markets Area, originally built in the 1830s, which was restored in 1988 by Hearth.
Belfast has several venues for performing arts. The Grand Opera House was completed in 1895 was bombed several times during the Troubles but has been restored to its former glory. The Ulster Hall (1859-1862) was originally designed for grand dances but is now used primarily as a concert and sporting venue. Lloyd George, Parnell and Patrick Pearse all attended political rallies there. It holds 13 paintings of Belfast History. The Mulholland organ costing 3000 guineas was donated and named after a local wealthy industrialist. The Waterfront Hall was opened in 1997 as part of the redevelopment of the Laganside and already has become an icon of modern Belfast.
The Victoria Square in now completed.
Belfast The Capital Of Northern Ireland
During my visit to Belfast I did notice that a number of new high rise buildings are currently unoccupied (it would appear that they were never occupied).
The buildings and structures of Belfast comprise many styles of architecture ranging from Edwardian through to state-of-the-art modern buildings like the Waterfront Hall. The city's beautiful Edwardian buildings are notable for their display of large numbers of sculptures. Many of Belfast's Victorian landmarks, including the main Lanyon Building at Queens University in 1849, were designed by Sir Charles Lanyon.

Key to Happiness
I absolutely LOVE the Pine Burr Inn. You should go. I don't give a damn where you live. You need to get the f**k in your car, drive to Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, and get yourself a room right now. Four stars. Five stars. However many stars your rating system goes to, give it one more.

Scotland: The Autobiography2,000 Years of Scottish History By Those Who Saw It Happen
A vivid, wide-ranging, and engrossing account of Scotland's history, composed of timeless stories by those who experienced it first-hand. Contributors range from Tacitus, Mary, Queen of Scots, and Oliver Cromwell to Adam Smith, David Livingstone, and Billy Connolly. These include not only historic moments--from Bannockburn to the opening of the new parliament in 1999--but also testimonies like that of the eightyear- old factory worker who was dangled by his ear out of a third-floor window for making a mistake; the survivors of the 1746 Battle of Culloden, who wished perhaps that they had died on the field; the breakthrough moment for John Logie Baird, inventor of television; and, the genesis of great works of literature recorded by Conan Doyle, Stevenson, and the editor of Encyclopaedia Britannica. From the battlefield to the sports field, this is living, accessible history told by crofters, criminals, servants, housewives, poets, journalists, nurses, politicians, prisoners, comedians, sportsmen, and many more.

Axon View
A design for an urban design competition for the area east-southest of Termini Station in Rome. We change the program on the north of the site with a new University, mostly reusing the architecture with some new buildings inserted. (new buildings are greenish metal color)
We cap the gap caused by the station as much as possible with buildings and city blocks to pull this area back into the fabric of the city. In this scheme, we move the tracks back out next to the freeway to the west of the site. The program of the cap would be hotels, meeting areas, and other uses associated with a travel hub.
(copper color) We use the aurelian wall as a boundary/identifier of the district, and pull a wall of buildings around to continue this edge definition to give the area a presence with buildings for start up companies and other businesses.
Competition completed in 2000 with Varrki George, Kurt Baumgartner and Kevin Hinders.
