When you are asked by a client to put an initial on top of the cake, remember to ask some very important questions:

1. What initial is it? - some letters do not stand up straight such as P or J
2. How does the initial fix to the cake? - some letters do not have a spike or anything that digs into the cake

This couple brought me a wedding cake topper that they'd bought on line (this is a letter T believe it or not) especially for a wedding cake. It had no spike so that I could insert it into the cake, it didn't want to sit on the cake it was heavier one side than the other. It was brushed stainless steel and was very heavy and wouldn't stick to royal icing. Finally I managed to make something with florists wire wrapped around it in two places and jammed the whole lot in there with royal icing....what a fiasco.

By special request a drawing of Blackburn for Sleepy Valley, who lived there for 2 years and regretted never drawing there. Tiny unfinished sketch ( black lines not really so thick!), done in the car whilst husband nipped in for fish & chips, that old Lancashire stand-by, for our tea. Incredibly busy main road. Lorries and cars whizzing past my ear so close I kept jumping!!!
