This is one of the first cakes I made in culinary school.
It's funny how you learn and look back and see where you've improved.
1) I would now decorate the cake in a completely different way.
2) I would photograph it in an entirely different way.
The basket weave technique is an old one, but actually one of my favorites when using buttercream. It's not overly "elegant", but makes a cute cake.
I should do this cake again and see how it would turn out now.
My husband surprised me last night with a very early "birthday" he got me the Cannon EOS 50D camera and a Canon proffesional quality photo printer (up to 11x17), and a cake. Isn't he awesome? He wanted me to have the camera before our upcoming trip to Death Valley.
