From a pamphlet we got from the Cabot Creamery Outlet store in Vermont, this corn pudding has corn, eggs, cream, cheddar cheese, onions and finely diced red peppers.

It was good - warm, comforting, unassertive.

Would I make it again?

Probably not - for the number of calories this brings to the table, it would have to be a bit more spectacular to make it worth the dietary setback. For another family though, this would probably be a really good Thanksgiving side-dish. I can imagine it going really well with turkey and gravy.

It's become my 7 Days tradition to post at least one picture of one of my cocktails. This one is a concoction I came up with - Dole's Pina Colada Mix, Vodka, Triple Sec, and Peach Schnapps. Very tropical! Care to join me?

If you are a little observant, you might notice in this picture that I'm not wearing my wedding ring. Don't worry - I'm still married! But one day last week at work, I suddenly noticed the diamond was missing from my ring. I looked all around my desk, in my chair, under my keyboard, etc., to no avail. I looked in my car and at home too, not being sure when it fell out. I had pretty much given up on ever finding it - it could have gone down the shower drain, fallen out in the parking lot, or have been just about anywhere. The next day, I was working, and got up to go take a break. When I came back to my desk, I glanced down at my chair and saw something small and somewhat shiny in it. There was my diamond! I have no idea how it got there, because I'm sure I checked my chair the day before. Soooo...I'm going to have it reset after Christmas sometime. And I think this time I'll be buying a personal articles insurance policy on it!

Fred is 7 years old now, and he only has one eye. I recently started teaching him some tricks, and I'm really surprised he's picked them up, since I'm not the best trainer. But, he gets so excited about the "treat" part of doing tricks, that he's not too focused. He's pretty funny though.

Loved this run of 7 Days, but then I always do! What a great group of people! I tried to do better with commenting this time - still have a lot more to do though. See you all next time!

to exercise and lose weight!

I went to the doctor a few days ago for a check-up. It's been 2 years since I've been and I had gained 20 lbs since my last visit. Yeah, 20 lbs!!!! Also my blood pressure was a little elevated. When I went 2 years ago my tests were perfect. In fact, the doctor, who is a female a few years younger than me, said she wished her test results were as good as mine. Anyway...I knew I had gained weight. I've gained about 10 lbs in the last 6 months. I don't exercise and I like cookies so it's really catching up with me. You can't sit around and eat when you're 44.

I'm not going to document my "journey" but I will post pics and updates once in awhile.

The tape I'm exercising to is "10 Minute Solution. Dance If Off & Tone It Up." I liked the "10 minute" part. :O) It has 5 different work-outs and comes with a work out band. I did 2 work-outs... Sexy Slim Down and Dancer's Abs.... I THOUGHT I had rhythm... I was WRONG!

Another week of good weight loss, but not for a good reason. I have a sinus infection and have been unable to exercise for 2 weeks now due to it. Been sleeping most of the time. But for better or worse, it is still allowing me to lose weight. On antibiotics now, so hopefully all of this will be cleared by Monday or Tuesday and I can start biking again.

My oldest love's fried chicken. I was on a quest to make her the perfect fried chicken to her and the rest of my families liking.

This is a combinationof 3 differant recipe's i found.Took what we liked out of the 3 recipes and combined them into one GREAT chicken recipe.I then went about the task of making it a little bit healthier for us and substituted whole wheat pastry flour for the white flour,Egg beater's for the egg's,bad artery clogging oil for a healthier choice with out loosing the flavor.And TA DA!! We have a lower fat, heathier choice that even my Mom can eat & she has heart problem's.

This does have bit of spice to it but we LOVE it this way.You can always omit the cayenne pepper &/or the hot red pepper sauce if you like.

Another great trick i learned is instead of frying the chicken untill it is done..Is to fry untill it is lightly browned then place it in the oven.Put a meat rack in your pan then place the chicken on it so that the fat drips off your chicken and not back into it.Work's out great, & no one will never know you did not "deep fry" it :)

1-1/2 cups Whole Wheat pastry flour
2-1/4 teaspoons garlic powder
1-1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
1-1/2 teaspoons paprika
1 1/4 teaspoon Celery salt
1 1/2 teaspoon Seasoning Salt
1 1/4 teaspoon Onion powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning

2/3 cup whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 teaspoon salt substitute( i use no salt)
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 Cup egg beater's
3/4 Cup Miller light (beer)
1/3 Cup hot red pepper sauce or to taste(optional,but we love this addition)

2 cups vegetable or peanut oil oil for frying
4 Boneless (skinless) chicken breast

In one medium bowl, mix together flour, onion powder,celery salt,garlic powder,black pepper, paprika,cayenne pepper and poultry seasoning. In a separate bowl, stir together 1 1/3 cups flour, salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, egg beaters,hot red pepper sauce and beer. You may need to thin with additional beer if the batter is too thick. If it is to thin add 1 tablespoon more flour untill it reaches the desired consistency.

Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or deep skillet to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Moisten each piece of chicken with a little water, then dip in the dry mix. Shake off excess and dip in the wet mix, then dip in the dry mix once more.

Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil. Fry for 15 to 18 minutes, or until well browned. Smaller pieces will not take as long. Large pieces may take longer. Serves four.

Remove and drain on paper towels before serving. This makes a great "picnic chicken" or just a great fried chicken for dinner :)

1 pound ricotta
1/2 pound Genoa salami
1/2 pound pepperoni
1/2 pound boiled ham
1 pound mozzerella
1/2 pound mild provolone
1/2 pound swiss cheese

You can use egg beaters instead of real eggs or a combo of real and egg beaters. You can use low salt and low fat or fat free cheese. I have done it every kind of way and even made a vegetarian version using soy salami, soy ham and soy pepperoni. It all tastes good.

As you can tell, this is NOT a low fat recipe. That is why we only make it once a year~Easter. The actual recipe calls for this to be baked in a pie crust. I don't happen to like pie crust and I figure you can really cut a lot of calories there, so I just bake it in aluminum pans, without the crust and it tastes great anyway!

Edinburgh Zoo has two Jaguars, a male and a female. Mowgli, our male, was born in October 2004 and came to us in 2005 from Beauval Zoo, France. Mowgli has a black coat and is very bold and curious.

In June 2007 we received our female, Tina. Tina is a spotted jaguar, with a beautiful golden coat covered with “rosettes,” or groupings of black spots. Tina was being kept in a circus in Belgium, but was seized by customs because it was illegal for the circus to have her. Tina was assigned to Edinburgh Zoo so that she could become a part of the European breeding programme.

We believe Tina is between six and eight years old. Because she was overfed in her former home, she is overweight. Tina’s diet is now being monitored. She has already lost some weight and is on a gentle exercise regime that is incorporated into her training. The weight loss has to be done very slowly so her liver and kidneys are not affected. Tina is quiet but enjoys attention from her keepers. Our two jaguars will be kept apart until it is the right time for them to breed.

Jaguars in the wildJaguars (Panthera onca) were once found both in North and South America. However, habitat loss and persecution of this species has lowered its numbers almost to nonexistence in North America and much of its territory in South America. It can now mainly be found in the rain forests of the Amazon Basin.

The largest cat of the Americas, jaguars are stocky, muscular and very strong for their size. Male jaguars are generally 10 – 20 percent larger than females. Males typically weigh 125 – 210 lbs (55 – 95 kg), but larger males have been known to weigh up to 350 lbs (159 kg). The size and weight of these animals varies depending on location; jaguars in more northerly regions tend to be smaller, while those in more southerly regions are typically larger.


The jaguar’s spots provide very effective camouflage in its jungle habitat. This species also exhibits a condition known as melanism, which causes some jaguars to have a black coat. Melanism occurs in about 6 percent of the jaguar population. Black jaguars are sometimes also called “black panthers.” Jaguars resemble the leopards of Asia and Africa in appearance, but the jaguar is larger and sturdier.

Jaguars are excellent hunters, stalking and ambushing their prey rather than chasing it. Their muscular strength also makes them outstanding climbers and swimmers. The jaguar has an extremely strong bite, and often drags its kill long distances or even up a tree to keep it safe from other predators.

The number of jaguars in the wild is in decline. Some of the major threats to the jaguar include habitat loss from deforestation and habitat fragmentation throughout Latin America. Jaguars also suffer from human persecution; they compete with humans for prey animals, and are often shot for killing cattle. Commercial hunting of jaguars for the fur trade has declined drastically since protective programs like the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) were enacted the mid-1970s. However, jaguar teeth, claws, paws, and other products are still sought after in some countries.

Because of these and other threats, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed the jaguar as Near Threatened, with the likelihood of being listed as Vulnerable in the near future. This means that the jaguar will be facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.

Why are you writing the book now?
I have been asked for the last 15 years to write a book, and it is only now that I feel the time is right. Tell us about the first time you met George Harrison.
Working as a model, I occasionally went for castings, mainly for television commercials. I went for an interview with one of the directors I had worked with in the past, and he cast me in his first movie, A Hard Day’s Night, to play the part of a schoolgirl. When I first saw George on the set, I thought he was the best-looking man I’d ever seen. I was so surprised when he asked me out on a date at the end of my first day of filming.
Tell us about the first time you heard George Harrison's song, "Something."
George said he had written a song for me, and he played it on the guitar at home without the words. Then when I heard the song after it had been recorded I couldn’t believe how utterly beautiful it was. It was released on a single in October 1969, and I felt so thrilled and flattered.
Tell us about the first time you heard Eric Clapton's "Layla."
Eric invited me to his band's flat one day and played a rough recording of "Layla" on a cassette recorder. I was sitting on a sofa and he on the floor as it played, and he kept looking up at me for a reaction. I was stunned; the intensity, passion and tenderness came across so strongly--I knew, as he said, it was written for me.

First off, thank you for giving me the opportunity to vent.

All weekend my ears (especially my right one) have been bugging me. Achy and feeling like someone was covering them....today at school...I couldn't hear. The pain is gone but my left ear was maybe at 80% capacity...my right one? maybe MAYBE 10-15% :(

I sign. Meaning I can converse in ASL (American Sign Language). This is great because me and my friend P. can communicate at school with no problems and without him having to write everything out or having an interpreter there (and I don't have to use my voice which is nice sometimes, too...sometimes I just don't want to talk/listen to people) but today....today I RELIED on signing because my ears were no good. I was ok in 1-on-1 conversations with my hearing friends...but as soon as I was part of a group I had a super hard time trying to keep up with what was going on, to the point where I just ended up being frustrated and didn't even try anymore. It was kind of interesting to realize how well two ears work together and how surround sound is a gift.

By the way, I have decided that the cafeteria is a HORRIBLE place...I have noticed before that I have trouble understanding everything that is being said when the background noise gets loud (like at iHop the other day) but today was just...not cool....

I ended up retreating to the library where it was quiet and no one talked so I liked that...that's where my friend P. found me a little after and asked me what's wrong...of course, I was preaching to the choir complaining to him (in ASL) about hearing people and how they talk too fast and don't look at me while talking etc....P has hearing aids but they don't help him too much.
He just smiled and said "Welcome to the Deaf world." and "I feel so connected to you today" his humor is awesome and he cheered me up. I tried to tell him how much I respect all he goes through in a school-environment with so many people talking and talking and not slowing down...but he said, it's different for him, because he's used to it, and my brain is wired to receive input from my eyes and ears...his brain completely focuses on gathering info from what his eyes see.

my insulin pump, phone etc have been on vibrate for a while now...I just can't hear things beeping anymore...I haven't heard the oven preheated signal for a months...

Once my ears clear up, I'll still have to go and have my hearing checked (like I had planned to do last week) because I have noticed that I just don't do well in environments with a lot of background noise in general and to me 70% of people mumble. I'm kinda scared...I don't want to have to rely on yet another battery operated gadget. My insulin pump is enough....but I do feel very blessed because even if I should lose my hearing one day...I know ASL, so I know it wouldn't be the end of the world. But it's still scary...a good of amount of diabetics experience hearing loss and I can't help but think of a connection there...I'll see....

The Culver City City Park is laid out in three levels; the first level is mainly shrubbery and trees (and a small parking lot), with a wooden ramp leading up the hill to the second level, which holds a parking lot and the main baseball field (as well as a sundial big enough to choke a horse). (I...uh...don't know what that means.) Another set of stairs leads from the second level to the third level, which holds another parking lot, and the other main baseball field. The third level is the most defensible position, having only three paths leading to it. But we'll make our stand on the second level; and I'll tell you why: it's all the climbing; my knees can't take it. I'm not as spry as I once was. The second level is well defended, what with the enormous sundial (it's not very useful, but it sure does make a statement), and the drinking fountains. We'll show those mµ!h%^rfµ?#@s what we mean when we say please don't invade us with your extraterrestrial army of mutant aliens with lasers and things; we just had the place redone. And, if we're lucky, the leader of the aliens will say "Yes, we will not destroy your fine park, out of respect for your gigantic and kitschy sundial. Direct us please to your finest Ramada Inn." And then we will all have a very nice picnic on the lower level, with barbecued meats and green salad. Then, inevitably, someone will pull out a cookbook called "To Serve Man: Lo-Carb Edition" and that's when the trouble will start.

A recipe in process. Working my way towards a lower calorie, home made granola bar kind of snack. I'm not working off of any recipes for this one, just going out of my own head. And I'm definitely discovering that a baking recipe (opposed to a meal type of a recipe) is much harder to do from scratch. I've always known baking was more of a science and requires a lot of detail and exactness, I've just never approached from this much of an open starting point before, so this is definitely an interesting process. Tonight's were much closer to what I'm trying to do than last nights batch. So at least I'm on the right path. They're tasty, I just need to figure out the texture part a bit better.

Day 051. Almost late to class today! Finished my lab and hw at the last second and ate lunch and was out the door. Still kind of confused in class. Thought I was doing well. Lost another pound so my % loss is now 1.85%. however, mm is at 1.9% and aw is at 2.1%! only did one hour of racquetball with myself today. Compensated for my lack luster work out by eating veggie soup for dinner and a gigantic bowl of fruit for dessert. I see fruit and veggies as negative calories so we will see what tomorrow looks like. I have lots to do tommorow so we will see what tommorrow brings.

Durian hang while pomelos are arranged in neat stacks. Pomelos have a sweeter milder flavor than the grapefruit. I just learned that the grapefruit is the cross between the pomelo and the orange, while the tangelo is the cross between the pomelo and the tangerine.

There you have it....I am not smiling LOL was waiting to see if the dang camera would fire.....but nonetheless here we are.

She and I share Forty Four years of friendship at the end of a piece of paper and pen...and here's hoping we have another forty four years to go through!

Our vacation is nearly over. I am printing a couple of photos for them to take back and making a dvd so figured that I would post a photo of us for you to see. We are heading back over to Wolfe Island this evening for a bite of dinner and some good conversation over a pint or two...maybe drive around the island a bit and then home to get ready to shed tears at the airport tomorrow.

Ash's plan to help Ember burn out her Guardian has failed...

Emberen Twine moans softly, her eyes fluttering open before her arm weakly flops beside her hoping to make contact with water. Her fingers feel the bottle Emiko left for her and she grasps it and brings it sloppily to her lips, again spilling more than she drinks. She coughs as the water trickles it's way down uncomfortably before mustering what little strength she has to roll over and crawl out of the bed. She tries to get her vision to focus, straining to sit up and look around for her axe before haltingly rising to her feet with a moan of pain. She grasps the axe, finding it easily having dropped it next to the bed, and stumbles out into the main room, before staggering to the door and leaving without acknowledging whoever might be around.

Ashur Kentoku perks her ears in surprise at seeing Ember emerge from the center and hops down to the lower roof, wincing in pain, then to the ground, hand clutching at her bandaged stomach....

Emberen Twine: "Ash," she mews softly, her skin pale, lips pastey. She whimpers, tears flowing down her face again, before flopping painfully to the ground.

Ashur Kentoku crouches painfully in front of her and lays a hand gently on Em's.....

Emberen Twine looks up at Ash through her pained haze. "I...I don't know. I didn't want to be there. I needed you."

Ashur Kentoku lays her ears back and looks away...."You don't need me," she merrs. "I hurt you...I failed you...you need someone who knows how to help you and be good for you..."

Emberen Twine begins to cry....."I need you cuz you care about me..." she concentrates on breathing for a moment before continuing. "And...you need me. Do...don't leave...me."

Ashur Kentoku leans foward and rests her weight on her knees, bringing her right up against Em and puts her arms around her, holding her gently and resting her head against her shoulder..."I don't want to leave you," she murmers...."but if this is what comes from my attempts at helping you, then maybe I should. I cause more harm than good. I'm broken, kitten...and I break other things too..."

Emberen Twine whimpers, her firey hair sticking to her tear soaked face.
"Ash," she whispers..."We are all broken....I...I'm broken...and," she swallows hard before continuing..."I need you. I love you and that....means...more...than anything."

Ashur Kentoku: Ember's words wash over her and bring long buried emotions to the surface...she clings to the young woman that means everything to her and buries her face in her shoulder, tears streaming form her eyes, and begins to sob, little choking and gasping sounds....

Emberen Twine mewls softly, bringing a weak hand up to pet Ashur's hair. "Shhh..." She feels Ash's energy, a flood of emotion like memories in a slide show sped up and flashing before her eyes. She cries with her, welcoming Ash's release...finally.

Ashur Kentoku makes little clawing motions like a kitten as she cries, hugging Ember to her, all of her pent-up emotions over time flooding from her....her gasping little sobs the only sound she makes...

Veth Heliosense whistles, almost skipping as he heads toward the community center. He suppose Emberen was right, he really must smell terrible. Heh, that actually looked like Emberen righ-oh, fuck. Her and her friend....Jesus, what the hell? Was that blood? "Em..." he begins cutting himself off just as quick, just staring.

Emberen Twine: "Gods Ash," she whispers as she kisses the top of the kitten's head. "It's gonna be ok now..." she says before her attentionis averted to Thunderstorm. She offers him a weak smile, closed lips quivering as tears stream down her face. "H...hey," she says in a raspy voice, unsure of even where to begin with an explanation and not wanting to get to deep into it while Ash was finally letting go.

Ashur Kentoku immediately stops crying when she hears someone nearby, her survival instincts and training kicking in....she lifts het tear-streaked face, raven hair matted to it in strands and growls warningly, even as she blinked her eyes clear to see who was there...

Veth Heliosense just stares, dumbstruck, "Jesus...." he mutters, stepping back. He figures....well...he doesn't really know what to figure. He starts to draw his knife, but stops, remembering Ashur as the sort of bitchy cat from yesterday. He brings his hands up in a gesture of mild compliance, "Uh....Emb...Emberen? Is...is everything...." he trails off. What the shit?!

Emberen Twine gasps a bit as Ash growls, recoiling as she gets fierce. "Ashur," she starts, mustering her strength to bring her voic

Day 050! Lost a pound and a half since yesterday even with killing that cake so it's out of the fridge. 1.1% weight loss so far! Went to the YMCA duck crap lake and did 10 laps. The first three were with the couch to 5k podrunner podcast. It went great and was really happy with it. Walked the rest and used a gps app to find out each lap is about 0.77miles. So I did about 7.5 miles today!!!! Made super yummy veggie soup! Zucchini, tomato, potato, carrot, onion, garlic, spinach soup. Yum!
