Ribbon:
8” Certainly Celery 5/8” Satin Ribbon
4” Old Olive 1/8” Taffeta Ribbon

Directions

1.Fold base card in half and crease with bone folder.

3.Whisper White - Measure 3-1/8” on one end, trim from the 5-1/4” to the 3-1/8” making the diagonal edge. Then trim ?” off the bottom.
•Then working from the right edge of the paper (the 5” edge), measure 2-3/4” and trim for the largest panel (it will measure 2-3/4” x 5” with the diagonal top).
•Then trim ?” off the end of the remaining white (larger piece); this is how you gradually make each panel smaller to fit the Pink Pirouette.

Marl / Germany: Wolf Vostell's sculpture "La Tortuga". Pump and wheels

Marl / Germany: Wolf Vostell's sculpture

This is not a scrap heap but a work of art: The German artist Wolf Vostell (1932-1998) created this sculpture (or installation, better to say). It mainly consists of a steam locomotive from the WW II era. He turned the engine upside down, placed it in a huge concrete tub and named it "La Tortuga" (because it looks like a huge tortoise which is helplessly lying on its back). Resting in front of the city theater of Marl / Ruhrgebiet the engine is slowy rusting and dilapidating. It is an impressive symbol for a whole era of world history: The locomotive belongs to the BR 52 class of Deutsche Reichsbahn which played an important role in WW II and in the holocaust. The Nazi administration planned to build 15.000 of these engines (only 7.000 were finished before the end of war). The locomotives were intended to haul supply trains to the front lines in eastern europe. Moreover they pulled the long lines of waggons in which jewish people and other victims of the Nazi regime were transported into the concentration camps.

What I like about this work of art is that it deals with a very serious topic in quite an unagitated way. There is only one single phrase coming out of a hidden loudspeaker which refers to the deportation even of children and elderly jewish people which indicates what the sculpture is all about. Apart from that Wolf Vostell leaves it to the beholder to "read" this work as a anti-totalitarism and anti-war monument. The work is in no way heroic; instead it solemn in a very decent way.

The original metal steering wheel was sanded, cleaned and sprayed with gloss white Rustoleum paint. I wanted to use the original chrome bezel that positions the wheel at 35 degrees instead of the Teleflex 20 degree mount but did not have time to make this. Since no mounting bracket exist to hold a teleflex helm at 35 degrees, I designed one that would hold the helm under the console. I made several prototypes and finally got one that worked. Now I have to fabricate and weld up. I will have by spring 2004 because I don’t really like the teleflex plastic bezel. I sprayed chrome to make it look like chrome. I want to get the boat back to original as much as I can. Because the original steering wheel cap nut is too big to hold down to the wheel to the helm shaft, I made a fake cap nut to cover the real teleflex nut that holds the wheel to the helm shaft. I made a mold of the original cap nut and cast it with a white liquid material from Smooth On. With a rotary tool, I routed out the interior of the casting so it would sit over the teleflex helm nut. I sprayed chrome, applied adhesive and installed. The Teleflex cable used was 9’ long.

Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show

Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline
Starin' up the road
Pray to God I see headlights

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I'm a hopin' for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Runnin' from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now

Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin' me now
Lost my money playin' poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain't a turnin' back
To livin' that old life no more

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Walkin' to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he's a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

And I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby callin' my name
And I know that she's the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Dead Bear Beers

Dead Bear Beers

buddy bear (fair and balanced consumption/perspective)

**************************** *********************************

Posing with Dead Bears

No sane person would seek out a dead bear to pose with. No sane person would kill a bear to pose with it - but many do.

They pose with the poor beast after killing it, proudly brandishing their weapon of choice.

To kill the bears they bait the area for years, allowing the bears to be accustomed to the source of easy food, creating paths to and from their tragic bounty.

The Hunters return when the bears are hungry after their winter's hibernation, or before the hibernation, as they try to bulk up for the long sleep.

The Hunter's sit high up in the trees, armed as though they are overtaking a small country.

The Hunter waits, and eats and drinks in comfort until the hapless beast wanders by for his daily munchies - AND THEN BLAM!

...the bear is dead.

Now the hunter's celebrate their machismo, pose with the murder victim, discuss how they plan on stuffing and posing the bear, and what illegal body parts they plan on harvesting.

...and the bear is skinned.

...and the carcass is dragged out into the woods to rot. Meat and all.

...and for weeks all I hear is how big and strong they are.

...and around camp all I hear is "fag" this and "n*g*r " that.

...and I stand up to their offensive behaviours, only to be shouted down by an army of armed and bigoted killers.
(You can't just walk home out here)

...and I am restricted from taking photos after they realize that I'm not taking Bear Murder Glorification photos like they wanted.

...and I am forced to hide my film while they sharpen their knives outside my tents door.

...and I am forced to sneak photos while they are off killing.

...and I tried to think of ways to capture the hypocrisy of these freaks and their "sport" - and one of my ideas is to memorialize the dead bears in other ways than murdered, and skinned.

...and I posed them.

...and I was flown out of camp by helicopter, earlier than agreed. Kicked out of camp, not because of the posed photos (they never knew) - because of the skinned photos.

It was a horrible time - but the opportunity had presented itself to me.

When would hunter's allow you to photograph stuff like this? Where do you find photos of this?

I felt it needed to be done.

Go Bears !!!

Go Bears !!!

I thought I'd do one for the Chicago Bears, so out to the lakefront I went tonight. And boy was it cold! It was freezing, snot's dripping down my nose. Actually you can see the ice on the frozen lake. Stayed about 20 minutes and by the time I'm done, there was nobody else there. Some people would run out of the car take a snapshot or two but that was it. I couldn't get rid of the noise but I don't think it's that bad. By the time I got back in the car, my fingers were numb I could barely feel the steering wheel. One thing's for sure. The beers gonna be cold tomorrow.

GO BEARS !!!

1:35 (Inspired by) Maschinen Krieger - PzKl. HX-39

Manufacturer: Metallunion AG
Chassis Nos.: 19100-001 to -599
Crew: 2
Weight: 10.800kg
Length (hull): 3,47m
Width (hull): 1,85m
Height: 2,53m
Engine: Magna MTU-3488c
Radio: FuG 50/c-M
Speed: 30km/h
Range: 280km
Armament: PWM.47/Sd. Laser Gun, 6x IR smoke petard
Armor: Early Police models 15mm Tungsten. Army use models 25mm Tungsten + 12mm Special Heatproof Ceramic Armor. Late models often carried individuals upgrades
and modifications.

Description and History
The HX-39 "Krampus" was one of the first quadrupedal tank designs conceived for the SDR forces. Designed in 2874, this compact, manned tank was originally intended as a lightly armored riot control and urban combat vehicle for the National-Defense Army Police Battalions.

Speed and armor were of secondary priority - the HX-39 was rather focussed on high mobility in difficult and confined terrain, and consequently a compact overall shape was the result.
Beyond the Police use, the Krampus (lending its name to a fiendish mythological figure) also saw sparse use with the Strahl National Defence Army as a light scout and training vehicle.
These vehicles featured upgraded armor and a 15mm machine gun instead of the Police version's water cannon. In 5 years of production, about 600 of these vehicles were built.

With the start of hostilities on Earth in 2882 and the quick advances in A.I. technology, which lead to unmanned scout vehicles like the Gans tank or the Neuspotter, the Krampus was quickly withdrawn from SDF front service. Yet, the small tank's design still proved useful for training, landing units and special operation groups, where it was kept in service in small numbers.

The Krampus' hull offered, thanks to its simple but sturdy construction and the original design's water tank, room for constant improvement and the development of special purpose versions.
Popular field modifications in the 2880ies were upgraded armament. The 15mm machine gun was often replaced by a compact laser, and/or Neu Panzerschreck missiles were added, too. An additional flame thrower in the turret was also a popular choice as a close range weapon and means of defense. With an internal tank, this weapon would allow fourty bursts with a range of up to 60m.
In some cases with special ops teams, parts of the original Tungsten steel hull were replaced by or lined with ceramic pieces - which massively improved survivability in the changing battlefield. In some cases even indirect sight systems like the KgZF4 were installed, what got the 'Krampus' up to date with modern contemporary combat suits like the P.K.A Ausf. M 'Melusine'.
The famous Skull Combat Team kept four H-39F as support units in this configuration, and a handful of other Krampus tanks still served with similar equipment in late 2886.

Beyond this development potential, its ability to retract its legs for minimum width also made it useable in scenarios where larger and especially wheeled or even tracked vehicles would either get stuck or could not use the terrain to their benefit. It would, neverthless, be rarely encountered in large scale battles.

Effectively, the small 'Krampus' tank saw service behind the front lines in small numbers for a long time. One was, for example, used at Bomvol & Zionel for artificial intellgence experiments in early 2883, and a battalion of modified HX-39 was employed in the SDR raid on Torifujiograd in December 2884 in a command task, where it fought alongside PKA units in an urban battlefield.

Well, I will admit that this story is totally fake, but based on the vague, semi-official Ma.K material which is available out there. This mecha was inspired by three things: one aspect was my faint interest for the Ma.K universe and its original mecha designs. Then there was the inspiration through the KV-2X walking tank from MiG Productions, which looks impressive but which I never liked for its (IMHO) poor technical design. And then there was the fact that I got hold of a box with collectible Melusine combat suits in 1:35 scale. There were so many of them, I seriously considered a diorama - but at 1:35 scale only a few Ma.K mecha designs are actually available as a kit. Hasegawa's Nutcracker tank would have been an option - but it was too big for my taste and the space available. So, traditional scratch-building was the only valid option!

This was also the starting point for a model and diorama for a model kit contest of a German SF modelers' internet forum (much like starshipmodelers.com). At this early project stage I had the idea of an urban PKA mass scene, rushing forward between ruins with the support of a small armored vehicle, soemthinmg like the Gladiator. Consequently, I wanted a (small) tank for an urban or tight setting, and keep the construction as compact and simple as possible. Four legs were a must, and I wanted to use a single stock kit for

Four legs were a must, and I wanted to use a single stock kit for the hu

Church on the hill – Hedley BC

Church on the hill – Hedley BC

St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church east of Hedley BC at Chuchuwayha, the Indian village. Build 100 years ago along Great Northern Railway. It's not easy to find if you are going east on Highway 3 but can't miss it going west. It's on the reserve so telephoto lens is useful … and photoshop – electrical wires all over the place.
I have taken this image returning home after visiting my friend Rick ( Flickr - Chilliwack Jack ) at his place east of Osoyoos. Great few days with Great Friend and wonderful locations . I have to work on quite a few images from there. I will try to find time .
