80's meets 50's Punky Skirt Here's a skirt I made for under five bucks. It's for Spike, the daughter of my bud, Annie. I am not sure how Annie feels about me dressing her four-year-old daughter in such a way that Spike will resemble a lampshade in a bordello. Of course, it's totally me to make sure Spike asks what a bordello is. In all seriousness, the skirt came out punky-cute. I wish I could sew her a pair of doc martins to wear with it. And if Spike doesn't like it, it can always be used for a lampshade. Ottobre #16 03/2005 pink corduroy skirt I quickly whipped up this skirt as compensation for totally mucking up a pair of cord jeans for Daisy the other day. Very easy to put together and the only mod I made was to add elastic inside the back part of the waistband. She's tall and skinny but still has a little pot belly so I knew the skirt needed elastic to stay on/up. You can also see the belt from the free patterns on the Ottobre site. I just used a single pink plastic buckle instead of two D rings they suggest. 1968 Mattel Hot Wheels Classic 31 Woody Trio 1968 Mattel Hot Wheels Classic 31 Woody. These three 1931 Ford Model A Woody Wagons I have owned all since brand new in 1968. They are all "Made in the USA" . All three of these are in mint condition and were among some of my favorite cars in the group. I always loved street rods so I would always look for these types of cars. Of course thinking back to being a little kid in 1968 these cars where the old ones and the Custom series was the new cars of the day. Who knew we were growing up in Warren Michigan at such a great time for cars. The muscles cars of those days are some of the most sort after American cars ever. The green Woody is different than the other two, it has a flat black roof with no texture on the roof and a dark tan or almost gold interior. You can see the red and gold Woodys have a swirl in the roof to give the affect of vinyl and white interiors. Even though these all have the same stamping I am thinking the green Woody is an early 1968 release. Coach Services Plaxton Excalibur Volvo B10M Lymm Truck Stop Monday 30 8 10 Plaxton replaced the long running Paramount coach range in October 1991, when it launched the Premiere and Excalibur. The new Plaxton coach range cost ?3.5 million to design and develope and were the first coaches to meet the new European R66 safety legiaslation, regarding roll over protection. The Paramount 4000 was the only version of the Paramount to remain in production. The Premiere was available in two heights: 320 (3.2-metres) and 350 (3.5-metres). The Premiere was built on Volvo, Dennis, DAF and Scania chassis. The Excalibur was Plaxton's flagship coach, available in one height: 3.5-metres and one length: 12-metres. At first the Excalibur could only be built the Volvo B10M, later it was built on the rear-engined Volvo B12T chassis and Dennis Javelin GX chassis. The Excalibur featured a raked back front windsreen, with the rest of the body structure was based on the Premiere. Some people say, that there was a hint of Duple styling about the Excalibur, this came about after Plaxton had bought the rights to Duple's coach range in 1989. Both the Premiere and Excalibur suffered from water leaks and other problems. Park's of Hamilton and Wallace Arnold had both taken the early production Premiere and Excalibur coaches and never bought any more for a number of years, in the case of Park's it was not until the latter part of the 90s that they purchased any more Plaxton coaches. In October 1999 Plaxton launched a new coach range the Paragon and Panther, thus replacing the Premiere and Excalibur, although both models did stay in production for a few more months, plus the Prima, based on the Premiere 320 stayed in production, until the Profile replaced. I was at Lymm Truck Stop yesterday and photographed this stunning Plaxton Excalibur Volvo B10M, owned by Coach Services of Gatley, Cheadle in Cheshire. The coach was new to Elcock Reisen of Telford, before Coach Services purchased it, Bullock's Coaches of Cheadle had owned it. The chassis is the MkIV B10M, this being the final version of the B10M. I got low down, to get this dramatic view of the Excalibur. It just shows what a nice livery, wheel trims and after market rear view mirrors can do for a coach. The owner told me, the coach had cost him ?50,000 and looks the part, when parked alongside new ?200,000 coaches. Shamrock & Rambler Duple Laser Leyland Tiger BPR 99Y Duple launched the Laser during the autumn of 1982. This new model was to be the replacement for the long running Dominant coach, which stayed in production for one more year, the Dominant bus stayed in production until late 1987. The Laser featured aerodramatic styling with a raked back front windscreen, which gave it a distinctive apperance. At first the Laser could only be built on the Leyland Tiger and Volvo B10M chassis, by 1983, it was offered on the DAF MB200 and Bedford YNT chassis. The state owned National Bus Company took a number of Duple's new Laser mounted on the Leyland Tiger chassis. Here we see a Shamrock & Rambler Duple Laser bodied Leyland Tiger BPR 99Y, named Falcon, wearing the local version of the NBC venetian blind livery and looking very smart indeed, the wheel trims just helps to finish the whole visual appearance. The coach was working on a National Holiday tour. Day 5 - Alloy Damage Today marks Day 5 of the project. With Spring here and the weather starting to improve, I decided that today would be the day I washed my car for the first time of 2010. Cleaning the alloy wheels, I realised why I used to wash them every couple of weeks. The grime is well and truly ground on, and I've got some bubbling damage... damn... Time to dig out the Supergard! This, rather embarassingly, is about as significant as today will get. alloys Yes. Those alloys are meant to be white... they are just dirty. I apparently hit a pot hole or something... or so I am told by the dude at the garage.... you can see the alloy is a bit bumped. Got new tyres this week to... when putting them on, they like to make as much dirt on the alloy as possible as you can see. Groupon let me take my Iraqi refugee friend to a pottery class! Dearest Groupon, Please find attached my submission for this month's photo contest. I've always wanted to try the pottery wheel since I love to do other forms of art, and I'm also always looking for ways to get my Iraqi friend, Yancy, out and about. I met Yancy about a year ago. She, her mother and her five grown siblings came to Phoenix as part of the U.S.'s refugee resettlement program. They are originally from Iraq, and the children have grown up in war while moving from place to place, trying to find safety in the Middle East. Finally, they are safe in Phoenix, but their life here is not at all easy. They often have my husband and me over for meals, and we try to help them with things like tax filing, finding jobs, applying for student financial aid, learning English, and getting out of their two-bedroom apartment to experience American life. I have to look for cheap opportunities to do fun things with Yancy, and since she used to work for a tile mosaic company after fleeing Iraq and moving to Lebanon, I thought she'd love this pottery class! A few other friends of mine bought the Groupon, so we all went as a group! It was SO much fun, and I really think Yancy had a great time...or else she was being polite. :) It was REALLY messy...but I think she liked it! Long ago, Eric helped me make a plate and a tea cup, but I think he put the arm on it the cup. I can't wait to see how it comes out after it's been fired. Also, Saturday was my final pottery class (sad face) but this week I get to go pick up all my pieces that have been glazed, and I can also finish up the pieces that hadn't been fired yet. Can't wait to see how everything comes out. I also can't wait until I can afford the membership, or just the next class, and then I can bridge (which means I can still use the studio) until the next class in January. Cheaper than a membership! Without some of the perks. Manzhoulli Station We arrived at Manzhoulli late in the day. We had travelled the last miles of China through the night. The train crossed the border to the Russian side and was pulled into a large shed where I recall it took almost eight hours to lift each car off of the wheels that had carried us from China and place the cars on bogies that would fit the width of the rails in Russia. The place had the feel of a frontier town... aside from the endless grasslands that spanned from horizon to horizon on the way in to the town itself...it had that gritty, dusty, shitty feel of someplace that existed only because of some circumstance that mandated its existence. I got the feeling that Manzhoulli was the place that they threatened to send misbehaving Siberians to. You'd know you pissed someone off bigtime if you got stationed here. Tumbleweeds wouldn't have been out of place in Manzhoulli. Inside the station was a restaraunt where the 'smugglers' who I shared a cabin with treated me to the first real western meal I had eaten in so many months. Beef Stroganoff... sweet delight... the creamy stroganoff and the wide noodles were like a beautiful angel dancing a dance of joy on my vagabond tongue... a culinary massage to my homesick taste buds...except for the fact that the heavy metal silverware... something I had not used in many months... it really imparted a sharp metallic taste in my mouth. I finished off the extraordinary meal with chopsticks I had retrieved from my bag... the ones Masami gave to me in Osaka Japan. That I missed Masami I already knew... but eating the stroganoff there in Manzhoulli with the chopsticks she had given me... I felt guilty that I had not been able to give her a proper goodbye. She really deserved it. She was never anything but good to me. She always gave more than she took and it always made me want to give her back. I had planned to travel with her during my last week in Japan and talk about the future. When I left the university and had my student visa pulled I wasn't given very much time to get my affairs in order... I wasn't even given twenty four hours to leave... the officials pretty much wanted me at the airport immediately. I had different plans. I slipped away quietly and told no one. There was no way I was going to tell my parents I had left school and that I needed money for a plane ticket right away. I spent most of the next day coming up with a plan to have my roommate forward mail to me and from me while I hung out in Australia for the rest of the semester that I was supposed to be a student in Japan. And I didn't feel like seeing the officials change their mind about letting me go... that's why I slept under the bridge in Kyoto that last night and hightailed it out of the port at Osaka. That was all behind me now... the heartbreak, everything really. I had made it this far... why look back? The only regrets I had were that a wonderful woman and I parted ways with a phone call. Now I stood at the doorstep of the hyphenated land of Eur-Asia... and if it didn't have a hyphen it was at least a hybrid. It was a middle ground between two worlds. I felt so ready to make passage there. I had to laugh when I recalled running into his accomplice in Beijing. Actually I didn't run into him at all. I was riding the bus when I saw that mother fucker standing on the sidewalk looking like a lost dog. I jumped off the bus at the next stop and followed him. It was Elan. I was sure of it.He never saw me and I followed him for awhile. Only an idiot couldn't tell he was being tailed by a westerner in China. For one... I didn't have black hair and secondly... I was about a foot taller than everyone else. Elan was an idiot. I found out where he was staying. There was a tiny cafe right there... I think it was called 'The Pink House.' I sat there and drank a beer or two and tried to figure out the best way to nail him. That prick was gonna get a smackdown. In a lot of ways it wasn't even my battle or my anger that made me want to do it. It was what he and his buddy did to my friend Joel... who was there for me at the Pig & The Whistle when I was in a backroom with the sharp edge of a Yakuza's knife pushing into my throat... we took turns saving each others asses it seemed. Not only did Joel extricate me from a situation where a very sharp knife was pressed into my jugular... he had the steadiness and presence of mind to grab my passport off of the table after he pushed those guys off of me. I didn't know a lot of Japanese at the time... certainly not enough to beg for my life... but that shit was serious... when the guy with a blade pressed in your throat tells his buddy to find a mop... well... that shit's serious. I felt bad that my mom would be getting a call from some low level State Department official asking where she wanted my body shipped to. I couldn't move the way that guy had that knife on me. That I got out of that one with my life was a blessing. The main light comes from the yellow sodium lampposts in the main square, and the end of the alley is totally dark, so I decided to give it a pinch of light with the flash. Here is an acrobatic exercise in white balance... of course the original shot was saved as RAW (are there other modes?). If I balance the white to have a good background the foreground becomes too yellow, while if I balance for the foreground the background becomes blue, as you can see in the small details. Some hours in post-production, using RawTherapee and GIMP, with half a dozen of masked layers, gave me an almost decent result. If I had to pay myself (and not even at photographer tariffs, but at the wage of an unskilled "deputy bricklayer", maybe clandestine) the cost of the manpower to fix this photo will be far higher than that of a set of gel filters for the flash, to give the flash light the same color of the main one. Conclusion: if you have to shoot with different light sources and some strobes, it is faster and cheaper to use gels. Who want the XCF GIMP image with all the masked layers (148 Mb) can mail me. Ecco un esercizio acrobatico nel bilanciamento del bianco... naturalmente lo scatto originale e stato salvato in RAW (ci sono altri modi?). Se io bilancio il bianco per avere un buon sfondo il primo piano diventa troppo giallo, mentre se bilancio per il primo piano lo sfondo diventa blu, come si puo vedere nei dettagli. Alcune ore in post-produzione, usando RawTherapee e GIMP, con una mezza dozzina di livelli mascherati, mi ha fornito un risultato abbastanza decente. Se avessi dovuto pagare la mia manodopera (e non a tariffa da fotografo, ma al salario di un vice-manovale, magari clandestino) il costo per sistemare la foto sarebbe stato di molto superiore al prezzo di un set di gelatine per il flash, da usare per avere la luce del flash dello stesso colore della luce principale. Conclusione: se dovete fare una foto con diverse sorgenti luminose ed alcuni flash, e piu rapido ed economico usare le gelatine. Chi volesse l'immagine XCF di GIMP con tutti i livelli mascherati (148 Mb) puo mandarmi una mail. 4 Wheel Parade Vehicle This is a parade vehicle I hand built in February 2006. It is powered by a 12.5 HP Briggs & Stratton motor and will run 25 MPH. It has natural finished oak flooring, 26" wheels & tires, and a 3 speed transmission with reverse. Springs on the car are valve springs from a 440 Dodge, differential is from a riding lawn mower as is the transmission, frame work is tubing from Honda four wheeler shipping crates. We have named this vehicle "The Briggs Buggy". It is a great grandbaby hauler. Cruising.... My wife and I bought my daughter a 4 wheeler (power wheels) and she has a blast on the thing... She was terrified at first, but now she puts it in high gear and runs all over the place.... DSX 2D - 1966 Jaguar E Type 4.2 Coupe Another stunning example - sold for ?62,000 The last E-Type Jaguar rolled off the production line in 1974, yet the model still has a unique ability to excite enthusiasts of all generations, its Malcolm Sayer-penned lines thought by many to be among the most striking ever to adorn a motor car. Indeed, only three years ago the Daily Telegraph ranked the E-Type top of the '100 most beautiful cars of all time'. Like the XK150 before it, it was born of Jaguar's competition successes on the race tracks of Europe. This was no ordinary motor car - it was a true thoroughbred. The E-Type, or XK-E as it was known in the USA, made its debut at the Geneva Salon of 1961. From birth, the car was available either as a Fixed Head Coupe or a two-seat Roadster. Like the XK120, at launch the new Jaguar was the fastest production car of its time - its 3.8-litre straight six engine allowing a 0-60mph acceleration time of a whisker over seven seconds and a top speed of circa 150mph. Despite this, the engine size was increased from 3.8 to 4.2-litres in October 1964 and, with the change, came a sweeter all-synchromesh gearbox, better brakes and more comfortable seats. With Jaguar's enviable racing history it was only a matter of time before the E-Type took to the tracks. In fact it happened almost immediately after the launch: the venue was Oulton Park and the drivers were Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori. The result was victory first time out, with Hill winning in the Equipe Endeavour car ('ECD 400') and Salvadori in the Coombs example ('BUY 1') coming home third behind the Aston Martin DB4 GT of Innes Ireland. A few weeks later the E-Types of Salvadori and Jack Sears outstripped the Ferrari 250 GTs of Whitehead and Parkes at Crystal Palace. The dye was cast and after gaining useful experience through the 1961 and 1962 seasons, the factory decided to get more serious for 1963 and build a run of 12 lightweight competition E-Types - the majority of which were Roadsters with hard tops. Piloted by a mix of amateurs and such aces as Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori, Jackie Stewart, Briggs Cunningham, the cars achieved numerous national victories but, unlike the illustrious C-Types and D-Types, were denied the development required to beat the all-conquering Ferraris in international events. Though the 1966 Fixed-Head Coupe on offer would probably more than match those early racers for performance, it has been upgraded for fast road use rather than out and out competition. The shell was refurbished by RS Panels with new floors, inner and outer sills (complete with additional stiffening), back panel and bonnet. The doors were reskinned, the arches flared to admit wider wheels and additional axle cage mountings added to the monocoque. The finished body was then reprayed in Opalesecent Blue and the interior trimmed in red leather. The engine was increased in capacity to 4490 cc, and equipped with a tuftrided crank, balanced rods, big-valve head and genuine D-Type camshafts. Additional upgrades included: a four-core alloy radiator; alloy header and expansion tanks; 16 in Kenlowe fan; 13-row oil cooler; a competition distributor; modified sump baffles and engine mountings, and a large bore competition exhaust from front to rear. The resulting ouput is said to be 320 bhp. The transmission comprises an AP competition clutch cover and plate, a five-speed Getrag gearbox and a limited slip differential with uprated power lock and competition cradle mountings. Front braking is courtesy of vented discs and four-pot calipers, while the thicker-than-standard rear discs are operated by Series II calipers and a modified servo system. The front suspension features genuine Lightweight E-Type torsion bars, Koni dampers, XJS front uprights, thicker stub axles, anti-dive geometry and a thicker anti-roll bar. The rear has 325 lb springs, adjustable Koni dampers and an anti-roll bar. The E-type rides on Magnesium peg-drive wheels - 6.75 inches front and 7.5 inches rear, which are shod with Pirelli P 6000 tyres. The fuel and oil lines are fully Aeroquipped and the wiring loom has soldered connections throughout. The owner regards this rapid cat as having "excellent" coachwork, paintwork, transmission and interior and tells us it has covered 21,000 miles since the restoration / upgrade programme. If you like the idea of giving latter-day Porsches and Ferraris a shock with a 1966 Jaguar, this could be just the car for you!
