Amazon Exclusive: Business Tips from Authors David Lindhal and Jonathan Rozek
Think back to some great advice you received about something in your life. Let's just say for a moment that you had multiple job offers and “Bob” was urging you to go accept his. Now let's think how Bob might deliver that advice. If he were a typical internet marketer, this is how Bob would sound:
“I’ve got a closely-guarded secret that other big employers don’t want you to know about!!!!!”
“Oh, what’s that?”
“Well you just gotta accept our Chicago offer!!!!!! Why, the moment you say ‘Yes’ to our offer, you’re life’s gonna change! Trust me! I mean, it’s an absolute dream job! We’ll pay you so much money that you’ll tell us to stop. Plus, about the work—there won’t be any. Just show up and we’ll pay you….But you gotta decide right now because this offer won’t last long!!!!”
If Bob talked like that to you, we’re pretty sure that you’d slowly back away from old Bob and find an excuse to leave.
Why is it, then that so many internet marketers talk like Bob? They breathlessly talk about how they’re finally going to reveal the true secret to making mountains of cash from the Internet…how it’s “push-button easy” to set up sites in minutes that will crush your competitors and make you a bloody fortune with no work, no money, and no risk.
If you’re the kind of person who gets all excited by the Internet Bobs, and you’re looking for a true Silver Bullet to be revealed at last—don’t bother buying this book. Take your money and buy a fantasy movie through Amazon’s DVD department. They have lots of ‘em.
Our book, Six Figure Second Income, is much more like the solid advice you would get from a trusted friend. We’ll tell you the truth as we know it, and that means the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. We’ll tell you that success takes a certain amount of work, but that there are some handy shortcuts you can take to minimize that work and expense. We’ll tell you:
• How to follow a simple, straightforward path to finding your first product to sell online
• How to get a perfectly good website for just a few bucks or even for free—with no gimmicks, no spammy stuff, and no ads on your site •
• Exactly where to look for people who will buy your product
• How to create a relationship with your customers so they pay you again and again
This book is about clearing away the barriers that may have prevented you from making money online. It’s also about showing you the tested and proven tools you can use to start that income stream while you still have a day job.
No gimmicks and no fakery to seduce you. Just straight talk about what works. If that sounds like a breath of fresh air, then we invite you to get 232 pages of it in our book.

Welcome to Biotech Nation: My Unexpected Odyssey into the Land of Small Molecules, Lean Genes, and Big Ideas
As host of public radio’s Tech Nation, Dr. Moira Gunn has long been known for making all aspects of science and technology meaningful to the general listening public. For the millions of people who now listen to BioTech Nation, the rest is history.
Going behind the science and business of biotech, the book rides along with Dr. Gunn as she interviews an interesting and colorful cast of characters from the industry, including a DNA scientist with ego to burn and a pharmaceutical exec with a penchant for Viagra. Why has the biotechnology industry failed to perform up to expectations - despite all its promise? In "Science Business", Gary P. Pisano answers this question by providing an incisive critique of the industry. Pisano not only reveals the underlying causes of biotech's problems; he offers the most sophisticated analysis yet on how the industry works. And he provides clear s for companies, investors, and policy makers seeking ways to improve the industry's performance. According to Pisano, the biotech industry's problems stem from its special character as a science-based business. This character poses three unique business challenges: how to finance highly risky investments under profound uncertainty and long time horizons for R&D, how to learn rapidly enough to keep pace with advances in drug science knowledge, and how to integrate capabilities across a broad spectrum of scientific and technological knowledge bases. The key to fixing the industry? Business models, organisational structures, and financing arrangements that place greater emphasis on integration and long-term learning over shorter - term 'monetisation' of intellectual property. Pisano maintains that all industry players - biotech firms, investors, universities, pharmaceutical companies, government regulators - can play a role in righting the industry. The payoff? Valuable improvements in health care, and a shinier future for human well-being.

EQUITY INVESTMENT WITH - EQUITY INVESTMENT
Equity investment with - Investment ratio analysis.
Equity Investment With
- (Equity investments) Many companies offer us an opportunity to actually own a piece of their company. You can buy 'shares,' commonly known as stocks, in the company. Your investment returns are then related to how profitable and successful that company has been, and may go up or down.
- In accounting and finance, equity is the residual claim or interest of the most junior class of investors in assets, after all liabilities are paid. If valuations placed on assets do not exceed liabilities, negative equity exists.
- (equity investments) Ownership shares in a company. Also known as shares and stocks.
Guenter Herz hot on the trail for Jack Wolfskin investment
The outdoor apparel company has reportedly caught the eye of German invester Guenter Herz.
Operating 240 stores across Europe and Asia, Jack Wolfskin is Europe’s third largest outdoor wear manufacturer, with a turnover of 304m. German press have reported that Herz will bid through his investment firm Mayfair, with a price rumoured to reach EUR 600m.
Other potential suitors include private equity firm Blackstone and North Carolina based VF Corp. German sportswear makers Adidas and Puma are said to have withdrawn from the running.
The brand has recently seen a growth in popularity outside of its hiker roots with a cult following developing in urban German and Japanese fashion for ‘Wilderness Chic’.
PEVCs on a Roll With New Bill
It appears that there are more sympathetic listeners in Washington to the plea that hedge funds pose more systemic risk than private-equity funds, a view the private-equity industry has been advocating for some time. Want proof? Take a look at the revised financial-reform bill unveiled by Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd. The inescapable conclusion is that private equity and venture capital funds will have less regulatory shackles. Celebration time perhaps.

Customer Referral Cards [Front]
I started my customer referral cards last night! The only thing that I did not make myself was the swirly brushes in the white box. I made the line brushes and added the "worn" feel to them.
I still need to make the backside tonight which may prove a bit harder, but hopefully will not keep me up as late tonight!
If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would be glad to hear them!

The church is believed to have been started in the early part of the 13th century probably lasting for at least 75 years. The structure is believed to have replaced an earlier smaller Church on the site.
The earliest work is at the foot of the tower which has one and a half metre thick walls. The rest of the building was erected during the reigns of Kings Edward I and II, these dates being inferred from the styles of decoration. It is thought that the economic prosperity of the area was enhanced by Sir Richard de Bingham who then invested money into the construction. The Tomb of Sir Richard is marked by the effigy of a cross legged knight inside the church. Small fragments of another ancient tomb remain in the church and they probably relate to his son Sir William de Bingham.
The earliest record of a rector is in 1226 and by 1291 the town headed the Bingham Deanery. It was about 1320 that the church was completed.
Most of the masonry was quarried locally but some used in the tower is from the Ancaster quarries on the far side of Grantham.
Approximately a hundred years later a second flurry of building took place under the new Lords of the Manor the Rempstones who replaced the de Binghams.Sir Thomas Rempstone was buried in the Church after drowning in the Thames in 1406.
Elle swinging
The girls and I decided it would be fun to put up a rope swing. It was the best $ I have invested in a long time. We love it. This is my favorite of the pictures I snapped. I am not sure why, but for some reason it catches the feel for me.

The Quant Investor's Almanac 2011: A Roadmap to Investing
Quantitative investing has been shown to generate steady returns. Not surprisingly,
individuals and companies deploying quantitative investment strategies have closely
guarded their secrets. Some strategies have been published only in advanced academic
journals that required advanced mathematical skills beyond those of an average investor.
Until now.
The Quant Investor Almanac 2011 is the first book that makes cutting-edge quantitative
investment strategies accessible to all investors, large and small, institutional and
individual. Written in a straightforward style, this reliable guide puts quantitative investing in
perspective and provides the insights you need to manage a portfolio within such a
framework. And while the field of quantitative investing is extremely broad, the Quant
Investor's Almanac 2011 focuses on strategies associated with some of today's most
accessible financial vehicles, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded
funds, and more.
Opening with an informative Introduction that presents an essential overview of
quantitative investing, the twelve subsequent sections--each of which correspond to a
month of the year--include the dates, times, and projected impact of key macroeconomic
events scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, European
Union, and other countries. In addition to the calendar of economic events, each section
also outlines the latest quantitative investing strategies--explaining the key ideas behind
each one and enabling you to deploy them in various markets around the world.
There are ample opportunities to profit in today's market. But in order to succeed, you
need to know when and how to invest. The Quant Investor's Almanac 2011 can help you
achieve this goal and make more informed financial decisions in the process.

A view from Borestone Mountain, a bird conservation block
With a TogetherGreen planning grant, Maine Audubon is working with landowners who own very large parcels of land in areas that have been identified as “bird conservation blocks.” These forest blocks provide habitat for over 30 high-priority neotropical migratory birds, many of which have experienced extreme population declines over the past 40 years. Specifically, Maine Audubon will work with 800,000 acres of land managed by a variety of stakeholders, including an industrial forest landowner, a timber investment management owner, a real estate investment trust, a family timber harvesting operation, a traditional sporting camp owner, the State of Maine, three private conservation organizations, and others. This grant will support a series of meetings with these landowners, working to identify barriers and solutions to incorporating songbird management into future forest management plans.

Amazon in it for the long haul as profit tumbles
Leading online retailer has defended steep drop in profits as firm invests in expansion and employees.
Amazon reported earnings of USD 201 million, 44 cents a share down from USD 299 million, 66 cents a share from the same period a year ago. With Wall Street predictions at 61 cents a share the retailer’s results were way below expectations.
Chief executive Jeff Bezos told press this morning the figures are evidence of the retailer sacrificing short-term profit to ensure “long-term opportunities.” These include the company’s move into cloud computing and Kindle services.
With infrastructure investments taking priority over driving profit, Amazon’s expenses increased by 41 percent, adding 4,200 employees over the quarter. Amazon has said it expects revenues for the second quarter up to USD 9.65 billion, above Wall Street expectations. The etailer’s first quarter revenues came in at USD 9.86 billion, 38 percent higher than last year’s figures and also well ahead of Wall Street estimates.

Russia
Came from AmBAR event "Russian-American High-Tech : A Fresh Viewpoint"
on recent VC trip to Moscow tonight - did not take any pictures - will post some notes later.
Overall experience was very positive. Dmitry Medvedev was open and sincere (as panelists stated: "open for a political figure").
However, VCs will directly invest in Russia (hopefully) in 5-7 years...
Other thoughts: Corruption is not a major threat for start-ups in Russia (furthermore, it exists in other countries including US-CA and especially in China). Weak protection of Intellectual Property directs investments in the areas like IT, software etc. not so much in life-sciences. Russia has a very strong background in science and technology - technology commercialization and marketing can be done in SV. Russian entrepreneurs need exposure to SV culture and processes. One primary Russian weakness is law enforcement (exactly the same was a decade ago - I wrote some paper on foreign investments in Russia). This did not change in 10 years.
"Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will visit the United States on June 22-24, the Kremlin press service reported Friday.
Medvedev's agenda envisions a visit to California's Silicon Valley, which is seen as a model for the high-tech business zone Russia is creating in Skolkovo in the Moscow Region" Ria Novosti
"The new Skolkovo center's activities will focus on five priority spheres: energy, information technologies, communication, biomedical research and nuclear technologies." Ria Novosti
