McDonalds Come On
See, in Perth, Western Australia, the McDonalds served roast chicken to complete with the likes of Red Rooster and Chicken Treat. Apparently in WA, roast chicken is very popular. Anyhoo. I went to this drive thru and asked what the difference was between the Quarter Chicken Pack (shown with a serve of fries) and the Chicken and Chips Pack (shown with the exact same picture, but .30c cheaper. I asked for some salt and pepper, not to eat with the chicken, but to have on my toast for breakfast in the motel room, as I had bought some tomatoes to go on top. I chatted with the girl at the window, whilst her manager tried to find out what the difference was. He ended up not knowing. She asked if I wanted a drink, I said I couldnt afford it, she said "Im not selling you one, I just asked if you wanted one", and proceeded to give me a large drink. She then said to go wait in the waiting bay whilst they cut up a fresh chicken. I pulled the car out but couldnt find the waiting bay, so I just parked. About 15 mins later she came out with my food, and said that she had been looking for me for ages, and that the waiting bay is weird here, it located back next to the speakerbox where you place your order (Ie, you have to drive around the building again....weird). She then chatted to me for about 10 mins then said she had to get back to work. Then when I got back to the hotel room, this is what I found.........
morrilton
wow. what can i say. i'm a little freaked out. i made pretty good time today, despite a slow start yesterday, putting my car in park on 66 at 2.30 in the afternoon for no apparent good reason, and then running into a truly impressive storm somewhere in the middle of virginia that once again put me in park on a highway. and now. i'm in morrilton. arkansas.
i pulled off at about 8. im not a huge fan of driving after dark, and i did put in 11 hours today. i tried four hotels before finding one wedged between a liquor store, gun store and the highway that wasn't completely full of white chevy trucks and sold out. sold out? morrilton? apparently the boiler broke down at the paper mill, so every able-bodied boiler cleaner from the surrounding states is here to clean and fix it. i've never seen so many MEN in one place at a time, and definately never so many mullets. they're draped off the backs of trucks and over the railings of every motel in the area. i really don't know what to think of it. i'm not sure if i'm amused or scared out of my wits. perhaps a little of both.
i'm staying at yet another fine establishment, the Scottish Inn, run by another indian dude, and likely given the "it's getting dark, you're alone, obviously tired and the next town isnt for another 30 miles" price. it's not nearly as much fun staying skeezy places when you pay too much for them. but hey, i got internet.

Moises 2
This is Moises. He works in the restaurant at the Radisson Hotel in Chatsworth, CA, where my mother and I have stayed for our many trips down to see my brother, Ben. Every time we come down, we get to see our pal Moises. Not only is he spectacularly helpful, but he's a genuinely nice, hardworking guy, doing what he has to do to care for his family. Don't get me wrong, I have no true concept for his family other than what he's told me, but this is the impression that I get.
He moved to America 16 years ago, and has been working multiple jobs just as long. For many years, he's worked on multiple restaurant jobs to help care for his family, which includes 4 sons and his wife. His sons are Antonio - 12, Daniel - 15, Ricardo - 18 and Eduardo - 19. Eduardo also works in the hotel restaurant. We've never seen him the past few years, as he usually works nights, but he was working a couple morning shifts for the holidays.
One thing Moises mentioned was that Daniel, his 15 year old son, is autistic. He mentioned that it was sometimes tough and that he had to go to a special school for autistic people, but what could he do? Daniel is his son.
Anyway, that's my friend Moises. I've been wanting to take his picture for almost 2 years, and I've finally done it. :) I'm thinking about doing some family portraits or a photo essay on his family on a future trip, and maybe a small video interview or written essay/interview.
Oh and one last thing...he's pretty funny! He's fun to joke around with, and I'm happy to see him whenever we're here.
Restaurant Girona
A restaurant we ate in just outside Girona with typically catalunian food... I can recommend this place to anyone ! Super food and fantastic service, and above all the real catalunian atmosphere !

HOTEL ROOM SECURITY. ROOM SECURITY
Hotel Room Security. Grand Mayan Hotel Nuevo Vallarta.
Hotel Room Security
- a bedroom (usually with bath) in a hotel
- A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short-term basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in times past, consisting only of a room with a bed, a cupboard, a small table and a washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities, including en-suite
- Hotel Room is a three episode 1993 HBO television series produced by David Lynch (who directed two of them). Each drama takes place in the same New York City hotel room (number 603 of the Railroad Hotel) at different times (1969, 1992, and 1936, respectively).
- Procedures followed or measures taken to ensure such safety
- defense against financial failure; financial independence; "his pension gave him security in his old age"; "insurance provided protection against loss of wages due to illness"
- freedom from anxiety or fear; "the watch dog gave her a feeling of security"
- The state of being free from danger or threat
- The safety of a state or organization against criminal activity such as terrorism, theft, or espionage
- the state of being free from danger or injury; "we support the armed services in the name of national security"
Atlantis Casino Resort
Rather than being narrow and long, like most hotel rooms, this room was shallow and wide, with the bathroom to the side. The bedroom had two small windows, and the bathroom (through the door) had a window.
It had a wide-screen LCD HDTV. Instead of a closet or an alcove for hanging clothes, it had a large, lighted wardrobe cabinet. For some reason, I forgot to take a picture of the side of the room with the wardrobe cabinet and the desk/table.
One change from my previous stay was that they now stock the room with wrapped plastic cups, rather than drinking glasses. I actually prefer this, as you don't have to worry about whether the glasses were properly washed and sanitarily handled.
Another change was that they no longer equip each room with a network cable, although the jacks are still there. The hotel offers free wireless. I asked for a network cable anyway, because I figured it might offer better performance and security.
Beijing JianGuo Hotel
My room in the Beijing JianGuo Hotel. Top notch amenities, great security (i.e. they won't allow females into the hotel with you if they're Chinese, unless you pull the 'foreigner card'). Highly recommended hotel. Nearby lots of things, pretty central near the 3rd Ring Rd.

Betws-y-Coed
Betws-y-Coed is North Wales' most popular inland resort. It is where the River Conwy meets its three tributaries flowing from the west, the Llugwy, the Lledr and the Machno. Much of it was built in Victorian times and it is the principal village of the Snowdonia National Park.
Set in a beautiful valley in the Snowdonia Forest Park, it is ideal for outdoor activity holidays. Numerous Craft and outdoor activity shops are in the village with the popular Swallow Falls nearby.
It’s has a wonderful setting surrounded by dense woodland and magnificent mountain country is only part of the answer. The beauty of the area is enhanced by cascading waterfalls, hill-top lakes, river pools and ancient bridges. Ever since the Victorian artists flocked to the area and formed the first artist colony it has been a mecca for those that appreciate its unique natural beauty.
The main street, Holyhead Road, has numerous inns and bed-and-breakfasts. Shops specialise in outdoor clothes and the tourist center provide maps and advice on day trips in the area.
At the railway station is a Museum with a miniature railway, shop and restaurant. The old 14th century church of St Michael's is one of the oldest in Wales and is worth viewing.
Of exceptional interest are the many bridges in the area. Pont-y-Pair (the bridge of the cauldron), built in 1468, is buffeted by foaming water after heavy rain. A number of sign-posted walks in the surrounding countryside start near this bridge. A mile or so away is the Miner's Bridge, on the road to Capel Curig, where the miners crossed the river on a steep ladder to their work
Thomas Telford's iron Waterloo Bridge built in 1815, which carries the A5 across the River Conwy, bears the cast iron inscription "This arch was constructed in the same year the battle of Waterloo was fought". Also worth visiting are the awesome Conwy Falls off the road to Pentrefoelas and the beautiful Fairy Glen off the A470 where the River Conwy flows through a narrow gorge.

Piacenza-San Damiano Military Airport
The Piacenza San Damiano is a military airport located in the common of San Giorgio Piacentino. The airport is ca 15 km far from Piacenza and is the base of the 50 Stormoof the Aeronautica Militare Italiana.
The runway is ca 3 km long and is equipped with the PAPI system.
The PAPI is an instrument helping to carry out a correct approach (in the vertical plan) on an aerodrome or an airport. It is generally located approximately 300 meters after the beginning of the runway.
The Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) is a light system positioned beside the runway that consists of two, three, or four boxes of lights that provide a visual indication of an aircraft's (fixed wing or rotor wing) position on the glidepath for the associated runway. The FAA standard for the PAPI is the same as the ICAO's standard Visual Approach Slope Indicator.
The PAPI is usually located on the left or right side of the runway(at 90? to the runway centre line which are typically spaced at 9 metres apart.) Units are identical and can be seen up to five miles during the day and twenty miles at night. It has two or four lights installed in a single row instead of far and near bars that would be characteristic of Visual Approach Slope Indicator (VASI).
Each box of lights is equipped with an optical apparatus that splits light output into two segments, red and white. Depending on the angle of approach, the lights will appear either red or white to the pilot. Ideally the total of lights will change from white to half red, moving in succession from left to right side. The pilot will have reached the normal glidepath (usually 3 degrees) when there is an even split in red and white lights. If an aircraft is beneath the glidepath, red lights will outnumber white; if an aircraft is above the glidepath, more white lights are visible.
During aircraft descent, this system, along with other airport lights, may be activated by the pilot by keying the aircraft microphone with the aircraft's communication radio tuned to the CTAF.
The Precision approach path indicator is based on the Fresnel Lens principle.
Piacenza – Il duomo
The construction of the cathedral of Piacenza, high example of Romanesque architecture, was begun in 1122 and completed in 1233 over the ruins of the former church of Santa Giustina, destroyed by an earthquake in 1117. Equipped with a gabled facade, the bottom in red Verona marble and in sandstone in the upper with blind galleries, it is divided into three areas withh semi-cylindrical pillars and it is moved by loggias at half height. It is enriched by a great rose window and three inputs with statues. Below, between the two columns and the main door, two lines of stone were made to show the local unit of length.
The structure of the church is on a Latin cross and it is extend, unique case in Italy, on the hall with three naves intersected by imposing a tripartite transept.
The bell tower was built a century later and in 1341 at the peak there was placed a bronze angel, affectionately called "Angil by Dom ", like a symbol of the city.

THE STAR INN : THE STAR
THE STAR INN : HOTELS GARE LYON.
The Star Inn
- The Star Inn is a restaurant located in Harome near Helmsley in North Yorkshire, England. The pub has been in the village since the 19th century and the building dates back to the 14th century. It has been known for the quality of its food since the 1970s.
Nights of Rain and Stars
In a tiny Greek village, tourists enter a hilltop tavern, alone and in pairs, for a casual lunch. But a sudden tragedy in the harbor below causes these perfect strangers to become unlikely friends as their lives begin to entwine.
Fiona left her nursing career in Ireland to be with the man everyone thinks is wrong for her. Elsa fled Germany and her high-powered television job once she learned what the man she loved was hiding from her. Thomas mourns his failed marriage and misses his young son in California, while David yearns to reconcile with his family in England without having to go into the family business. Chance has brought them together, and together they will find new ways of looking at the lives they left behind.

A fine Hostelry and the home of the
First sunday.
The first sunday is
you know when you get older and the only time you see all your mates you grew up with and the lads you used to drink with is at funerals.
Well eight years ago we were all at a funeral of one of the lads and we said that it would not happen again we will all meet once a month on the first Sunday of the month.
We picked this day because its easy to remember and Sunday just gone 3/7/2008 was our eighth anniversary and twenty seven lads turned up.
More people should get one going then they don't loose touch.
Walk 29 The Star Inn
The Star Inn was built in the 14th Century as a hostel for pilgrims travelling between the Abbey at Battle and Chichester Cathedral. Today it is a pub and hotel.
The red figure that you can see on the right of the photo was originally a ship''s figurehead. It used to be on the left hand corner, very close to the road junction.
In 2002 the Rev Frank Fox-Wilson (at that time the Rector of St Andrew's Church) restored the figure and it was moved to the north end of the bruilding for its own safety.

Here is an irresistible collection of recipes for every meal and every season, from the proprietor of Loaves and Fishes, the distinguished catering and prepared-food establishment in Sagaponak, Long Island, and The Bridgehampton Inn.
At The Bridgehampton Inn, Anna Pump pampers all of her guests as if each were a personal friend, which is, no doubt, why they return year after year. At Loaves and Fishes, each dish seems exactly as though it had been created in a regular home kitchen.
Now, with Country Weekend Entertaining, she shares her secrets so that home cooks, too, can soothe and pamper guests with simple, elegant, and delicious meals, from breakfast through dinner, all year long. In fact, instead of waiting for company, you can treat yourself and your family like guests and enjoy dishes such as Anna's Scrambled Eggs with Cream Cheese, Fresh Chives, and Popovers; her Grilled Veal Chops with Peach and Coriander Relish; and her Crumb-Topped Coffee Cake. Impressive enough for any formal event, every dish in this treasure trove of original recipes is nevertheless simple enough to prepare at whim, without waiting for a special occasion.
Arranged by season and illustrated with beautifully evocative color photographs, the more than 175 recipes in this book are certain to become the favorites of discerning home cooks everywhere.
Anna Pump grew up on a farm in Germany, near the Danish border, surrounded by a bounty of fresh vegetables, fruits, home-baked bread, and hand-churned butter. After moving to the U.S. in the 1980s, Pump established Loaves and Fishes, a catering and take-out shop in the seaside yet rural part of Long Island, New York, known as The Hamptons. She then opened a bed-and-breakfast called The Bridgehampton Inn in 1994.
Pump's cooking relies on excellent fresh ingredients in season, so her 175 recipes are grouped as Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. Grilled Chicken Salad, succulent from breasts marinated with soy, sesame oil, and white wine; Potato and Corn Salad with unexpected fresh herbs; and Spinach Salad with Sliced Peaches are typical Spring/Summer dishes Pump offers. Reflecting Scandinavian influences in her cooking, dessert might bring the luxury of fresh currants and raspberries transformed into Red Grits with Cream. (Once made with barley meal, hence its name, corn or potato starch is now used to thicken this ruby jewel of a dish.)
Fridays, year round, Pump bakes a huge ham glazed with marmalade, apple cider, and mustard. Guests enjoy slices of it with their eggs at breakfast and in sandwiches later in the day. You may prefer it for dinner, accompanied by Pump's cauliflower, mashed and roasted with garlic and olive oil. Complete the meal with a Macadamia Nut Tart, cranberries studding its pecan pie-rich filling. Sixteen color photos and short poems and quotes praising the good life punctuate this book with charming thoughts. --Dana Jacobi

I have seen old pictures of this beach...there used to be a long pier extending out from the middle of the beach, but it was removed a long time ago...now just sand and surf. Two restaurants and a luxury accommodation resort, with tons of expensive houses overlooking the bay.
