Maximum Salmon: Fishing the West Coast from Alaska to California

Maximum Salmon: Fishing the West Coast from Alaska to California

Maximum Salmon is the only book you need to catch West Coast salmon in salt and fresh water. Focusing exclusively on salmon fishing techniques, D.C. Reid outlines strategies for angling, from Alaska to California. Reid presents the gear, tackle, techniques and essential knowledge of salmon behaviour that transform average salmon fishing into maximum salmon fishing.

Anglers will learn the nitty-gritty of rigging information crucial to success. They'll find out about specific fly patterns, hootchies, plugs, Apexes, spoons, bait heads and drift-fishing lures. They'll be introduced to techniques they may not yet have tried but should: power mooching; streamer stripping; sunk, skated, swung and dead-drifted freshwater fly tactics; and the baitcaster and open-face spinning techniques for bait and artificials.

This guide covers all six disciplines--gear, fly and spey in both salt and fresh water--and includes all major types of fisheries for all five species of salmon: sockeye, pink, chinook, coho and chum. Techniques are presented in clear language along with accompanying diagrams and photographs.

Hockey

Hockey

In Canada, everyone plays hockey; everyone. It took about 5 stores for me to find a decent pair of figure skates because all they had was hockey skates. And those hockey-playing girls are tough cookies (as are most women in Alberta). In Sylvan Lake, Alberta, the lake freezes solid in the winter and becomes the town's giant skating rink. It is so frozen, there is confidence in driving one's Dodge truck across the lake! I was astonished at how many people owned expensive snow mobiles, hockey gear, ice-fishing equipment, etc. Winter sports in Alberta is not a mere hobby.

The guys played so much hockey during the month I was there. Here, James Howes, Jonny Nash and Josh Ferguson pause for a "breather" at the goal. The ice wasn't in very good shape; the guys had to snowplow the rink, and even doing so, they played in a very small space. There were patched of frozen grass sticking up through the snow. I attempted to figure skate for a while, but it was so cold that I could hardly stand to take off my glove long enough to press the shutter. I ended up sitting in the car in no time at all.

SALMON GLACIER (CANADA – BRITISH COLUMBIA – STEWART)

SALMON GLACIER (CANADA – BRITISH COLUMBIA – STEWART)

The Salmon Glacier is one of the biggest glaciers of North America.
This glacier ?n Western British Columbia descends 1.320 m. from the mountains to be reborn as the Salmon River, well-known as the place where many bears gather to fish for salmons.
The only way to approach by car this imposing phenomenon is through the Alaskan territory of the United States.
From the small Canadian town of Stewart somebody enters to the USA in the small village of Hyder, from where a dust mountain road, passing by many old gold mines, leads after 40 km to the glacier.
If you are lucky, and the atmosphere is clear, the view from the top is really breathtaking.

PS :
a) The odd thing is that from this area of Canada, somebody enters the USA territory without any passport and custom control, as there is only a Canadian check point but not a USA one. The reason is that the whole area is completely isolated, as surrounded by very high snowy mountains.
b) The helicopter in this image was carrying technicians and equipment for a nearby gold mine.

The 2011 Import and Export Market for Fishing Vessels, Factory Ships, and Vessels for Processing or Preserving Fishery Products in Canada

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on fishing vessels, factory ships, and vessels for processing or preserving fishery products in Canada face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying fishing vessels, factory ships, and vessels for processing or preserving fishery products to Canada? How important is Canada compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of fishing vessels, factory ships, and vessels for processing or preserving fishery products vary from one country of origin to another in Canada? On the supply side, Canada also exports fishing vessels, factory ships, and vessels for processing or preserving fishery products. Which countries receive the most exports from Canada? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for fishing vessels, factory ships, and vessels for processing or preserving fishery products in Canada. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for fishing vessels, factory ships, and vessels for processing or preserving fishery products for those countries serving Canada via exports, or supplying from Canada via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Canada fits into the world market for imported and exported fishing vessels, factory ships, and vessels for processing or preserving fishery products. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Canada in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Canada is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Canada compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.
