Simply Fly This tells of the journey of a boy from a remote village, that went from riding a bullock cart to owning an airline. It narrates in gritty detail Captain Gopinath's incredible journey: quitting the Indian Army in the late 1970s with a princely gratuity of Rs. 6500, going back to his farm land inundated by the river, converting of piece of barren land to set up a farm for ecologically sustainable silkworm rearing, and winning a Rolex award for it. From there he went on to launch an airline that would make $1.1 billion dollars in less than four years. (15) Air Deccan's change in strategy Being an aviation professional and having spent over 14 years in working and shaping the aviation sector in India, I am often called and asked by the media for my views. Recently, when Air Deccan, posted results which were not too good, i personally felt that LCC's need to focus on creating an effective market base as passenger traffic in India's growing at a frenetic pace and one needs to create a differnciator in terms of offering. I hope you find this article informative and insightful. Aviation is a sector where comments and views are always appreciated. Therefore, I look forward to hearing from you. mustangmain2 Our top of the range best plane is the Art-Tech P-51D Mustang. Not to be confused with similar looking planes on the market, this is a high spec high performance radio controlled aircraft from one of the best rc plane manufacturers in the world. As with all Art-Tech models the Mustang is super reliable, built to strict standards and the attention to detail is unbeatable There are three versions of the Art-Tech Mustang on the market. The smaller 3ch, the standard 4ch and then this one, the top of the range brushless version with its high power brushless motor and lithium polymer battery pack. The extra power means the plane is capable of most stunts and is a nice stable flyer. The plane comes almost fully built, pre-painted with decals already applied. The finishing touches such as attaching the wings and undercarriage is very easy and can be done in minimal time. Everything you need is included in the kit apart from 8 normal AA batteries for the radio equipment. The kit even includes a flight simulator. For those who think they may need a bit of practice first you can attach your transmitter to your PC via the included simulator cable and virtually fly the plane through the included simulator software package! The plane now comes with a 4ch transmitter featuring the new 2.4GHz technology. 2.4GHz systems offer many benefits over traditional radio systems such as greater reliability, elimination of interference, automatic and unique selection of free frequency and faster response times. 2.4GHz is more expensive and better than traditional FM radio sets so please remember this when comparing our prices. One of the most important features is the brushless system that offers several advantages over normal DC motors, including higher efficiency and reliability, reduced noise, longer lifetime (no brush erosion) and overall reduction of interference. The system gives the plane a lot more power to let you do things you would not be able to do with a normal brushed motor plane. The 11.1v 1300mah lithium polymer battery is a high capacity high power pack. The kit includes a special balanced Li-Po balanced charger and when fully charged will provide about 15 minutes flight time. Specifications: Wingspan: 960mm Length: 780mm Weight: 550g Transmitter: Upgraded 2.4GHz 4Ch Battery: 11.1v Li-Po Flight time: 15 mins Features: 1. Beautiful Scale War bird 2. Mythbusters Forces of Flight "With the Mythbusters Force of Flight science kit, kids ages 9 and up can uncover the wonders of flight. People build all sorts of machines to overcome the forces that normally keep us earthbound but which ideas soar and which ones crash and burn? The Mythbusters science kit that explores the ideas behind flight can help you solve these questions and many more in a compact science kit that weighs 1.5 pounds with dimensions of 12.5L x 3.63W x 10.25 H (made in China) and contains the following science experiment ingredients: (14) Pelicans - effortless flight Brown Pelican [Pelecanus occidentalis]. They may appear comic book material when peched atop a piling but once in flight they are masters of the air, big bills and all. Wave after wave, formation after formation of the pelicans flew south to north along the beach I was walking north of Lincoln City, Oregon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We took a four day, 950 mile counter clockwise looping “road trip” through Oregon (August 3-6th, 2011). The weather was outstanding. The trip included a little “quality” penny slot machine time for my wife at three Oregon Native American casinos: Spirit Mountain at Grand Ronde; Chinook Winds at Lincoln City; and Kah-Nee-ta at Warm Springs. For me I got some barefoot beach hiking along the Oregon Coast. Together we took the five mile version of the waterfalls loop hike at Silver Falls state park (our first visit there). Driving highway 213 to and from Silver Falls State Park from Salem, we came across many large farms raising colorful flowers for the packaged flower seed business. We met some really nice people, when we stopped to ask permission at these flower farms, to enter their private property to take photographs. Lots of fun! We drove the McKenzie Pass highway for the first time. We really enjoyed that scenic drive and for me it was a reconnaissance for future hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail in the Three Sisters Wilderness, with McKenzie Pass serving as the north trailhead. We had one of the best Mexican dinners we have had in long time at Mazatlan’s in Redmond, Oregon and I managed to convince my wife that we needed a short shopping trip stop at the nice REI store in Bend, Oregon. We drove some scenic back roads, we had never before traveled, when we visited the Warm Springs reservation for a casino stop for my wife (I read Backpacker magazine under the shade of a tree, sipping on an ice cold lime diet Pepsi). Our new Honda Fit got a respectable 40 mpg on this trip, with the A/C running much of the time…so we were happy with that. I’m now spoiled by the USB port in the glove box that let’s us play all of our “oldies” favorites from music folders loaded onto a small flash drive. Nothing like lots of good traveling tunes to make a road trip just that much more fun. Once again, with just the two of us…..a great time was had by each and all. I hope you enjoy some of the photographs we took along our way. OMT August 2011. 0000 365.044: Travel Book-ing 20100213 - Booked our flights to Barcelona in time for my birthday next month. They grasp the basic concepts, but find that writing effective use cases turns out to be more difficult than they expected. One factor contributing to this difficulty is that the community lacks objective criteria for judging the quality of use cases. This new book articulates the qualities of effective use cases by applying the proven patterns concept of development to this requirements-gathering technique. The authors present a catalog of thirty-six patterns that help the reader become proficient at judging the quality of their (and other's) patterns. These patterns represent solutions to recurring problems that application developers have faced in writing use cases. Each pattern is presented with examples that help the reader understand the benefit of the pattern, and just as importantly, the consequences of ignoring its proper use. UNHCR News Story: UNHCR begins to register displaced Pakistanis in urban centres Workers from Sharp, a partner of UNHCR, register an internally displaced man in Pakistan. © UNHCR/A.Shahzad UNHCR begins to register displaced Pakistanis in urban centres BAHARA KAHAU, Pakistan, April 21 (UNHCR) – The UN refugee agency has begun to register thousands of people who fled fighting in Pakistan's rugged north in recent months and sought shelter in Islamabad and other urban centres. The exercise began on Monday, when UNHCR registered displaced families in the suburban settlement of Bahara Kahau, located just a few minutes drive from the refugee agency's Islamabad office. They have been trying to earn enough to live on by working at brick and cement works, building sites and markets. UNHCR began the exercise, at the request of the Pakistani government, to establish the number of people who have moved to urban areas after fleeing fighting between the army and militants in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and the Swat district of North West Frontier Province (NWFP). The focus of the humanitarian response to the displacement crisis has been in NWFP, where most people have fled, but more attention is turning to those who have moved further afield, including towns and cities. It has been a challenge to identify the displaced among the existing ranks of the urban poor. According to a preliminary survey carried out last month, an estimated 82,500 internally displaced people (IDPs) are living in major urban centres, including 7,500 in the capital, Islamabad. Over the next two months, registration teams from UNHCR's partner agencies will work with community elders to identify and register uprooted people in the capital, Lahore and other cities of Punjab province. They will move to Karachi at a later stage. While the IDPs tend to reside in the cheaper areas of cities, rents are still high for the displaced who are away from their homes and traditional support networks. Amir* from Mohmand Agency in FATA was one of the first to be registered in Bahara Kahau on Monday. Sitting on coloured straw mats in an otherwise spartan room, the 35-year-old said he had fled his village six months ago. He had a relatively good life in Mohmand, owning his own house, growing wheat and vegetables, and digging wells for extra income. Now, he struggles to find poorly paid work as a daily labourer. "If we get work, good; if not, we just pass the time," Amir explained. But Amir is only just scraping by – he has to buy food for his family of 10 and pays 3,500 rupees (US$50) per month to rent a three-room house. He cannot afford to send the children to school. He said he had come forward to be registered in the hope that it will lead to assistance in the form of food or money. UNHCR Assistant Representative in Pakistan Kilian Kleinschmidt said the registration exercise was a critical step in finding out more about the displaced living in cities. "As the IDP crisis continues, we need to find out more about where people have fled beyond the main areas around [the city of] Peshawar and the lower parts of NWFP, where our assistance is focused," he said. "From our preliminary assessment, it seems that in addition to the newly displaced, longer-term settlers from FATA have recently been joined by their families who are fleeing the current conflict. These families will also be eligible for registration," Kleinschmidt added. He said the registration process would be an essential tool in helping people return home when the security situation improved. Despite peace agreements in Swat and FATA's Bajaur Agency, many are not ready to go back. Meanwhile, Amir listens avidly to the radio for news about the situation in his native Mohmand Agency. "We have land at home and livestock, which we are worried about. But I don't want to go home until it is safe," he stressed. The Pakistani government, with UNHCR help, has registered more than 550,000 people in NWFP since last October. More than 80 percent of them live in rented accommodation or with host families, while the remainder live in 11 camps. * Name changed for protection reasons. Ariane Rummery In Bahara Kahau, Pakistan 100. OHAI France. Long time no see. January 16th. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome in Charles De Gaulles airport on French ground. The time is roughly 5pm, Bastien's train for Nantes, his hometown is leaving at around 6:30pm. Oh, and it's freezing cold. Sorry. I cruised slowly to the train station under the airport. Met Helene there. We took the same train but it parted halfway (cause she doesn't live in Nantes - I know, how sad). I traveled in first class, cause it's that cheap. Reunited with my family at the train station, my grandparents were there even though it was close to 9:30pm. I don't want to think of Australia as a done deal. We're not done. Not even close. Mandarin Duck at Bird Kingdom Niagara Falls Male Mandarin duck Scientific name: Aix galericulata Family: Anatidae Order: Anseriformes Class: Aves PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: The average length for the Mandarin Duck is between 43-51cm, wings folded 22.1-22.6cm. They have a tail length of 10.2-10.4cm and an average bill length of 27.9mm. In full plumage, the male Mandarin is the most beautiful of all ducks. The males have an iridescent crown extending to a long crest and chestnut cheeks. The breast is maroon with black and white vertical stripes; the abdomen and underside are white with gold and black flanks. The back and tail are olive brown, the upper tail coverts are blue/green, and the scapulars are iridescent blue. The outer tertials are orange and gold on the inner web and form a sail shape and the upper wing surface is mostly olive brown. This sail shape feature along with the white-eye stripe that extends from the bill and tapers toward the back of the head distinguishes the male from all others. Their bill is red and they have whitish legs with yellow feet. The females, however, are less colorful. Their color vary from gray and white, to brown and greenish brown. The crown and sides of the head and neck are gray with a white-eye ring and streak that tapers off towards the neck. The throat and fore neck are white and the breast and sides of body are buff and gray. The back is gray brown and there are a series of white spots on the under parts. The wings are similar to the males but without the sail feathers. The bill is grayish black and the legs and feet are reddish yellow. The female bears a strong resemblance to the female Wood Duck but can be distinguished by the narrow eye stripe; the Wood Ducks is shorter and more blunt. Differences between the sexes are obvious, the males have a crested head and chestnut/orange wing and sail feathers that are raised vertically above their back. The females are duller in color and lack the crested head. The juveniles resemble the females but the males have a pinkish bill. During molting periods when the Mandarin sheds its feathers, the males resemble females but can be distinguished by the red bill. DISTRIBUTION and HABITAT: The Mandarin Duck originated in China but can be found almost anywhere there is a suitable habitat. They are believed to be semi-migratory and semi-colonial. They are scattered throughout Southeast Russia, Northeast China, Japan, Southern England and Siberia. Mandarins were introduced to the west for breeding purposes by aviculturalists and can be found in zoos around the world. The fall migration ranges from China, Japan, Manchuria, North Korea, to the central and southern islands east of the Sea of Japan. Mandarins prefer to live in woodlands next to water that has many trees with holes for nesting. They favor mountain areas with streams, marshland and forests. BEHAVIOR: The calls of the Mandarin sound similar to ge,ge, wooing and bifu. The Mandarin Duck hunts by head-dipping in shallow waters. In the wild, Mandarins will forage for their food. Feeding occurs during both day and night, but during the daytime they spend much of their time in shady areas. Males display an aggressive courtship flight for females. They are also one of the few who guard hens and ducklings until the ducklings are able to fly. Mandarins are highly social but males have been observed spontaneously fighting with one another. The male produces a nasal; whistling note during display, whereas the female makes a high pitched courtship call that sounds like "keet". The male also makes a high-pitched staccato bark, a barely audible whistle and heard least often, is the grunting sound, similar to that of a wild pig. Courtship begins in the fall and involves very elaborate, complex behavior such as shaking movements, display drinking and preening. Females take the initiative in choosing their mates by inciting behavior toward the preferred male. She will initiate copulatory behavior by performing head pumping movements then extending prone on the water. The male performs bill dipping movements before mounting and then swims away from the female while orienting the back of his head in her direction. If the same partners are still alive through two breeding seasons, they typically re-form old bonds rather than establish new ones. Because of their devotion to one another, they are regarded in China and Japan as a symbol of love, happiness and marital fidelity. In early summer their molting period begins and ends around late September. During the molting period they typically seek protection of forested lands or areas well hidden by heavy branches. The females molting period is determined by her condition at the time. If she is nesting the molt is delayed. Fortunately the males loss of color acts as a camouflage and protects them from predators. DIET: The Mandarins diet consists of seeds, acorns, grain, aquatic plants, insects, land snails and fish. The diet is seasonal, in the fall Mandarin Duck at Bird Kingdom Niagara Falls Male Mandarin duck Scientific name: Aix galericulata Family: Anatidae Order: Anseriformes Class: Aves PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: The average length for the Mandarin Duck is between 43-51cm, wings folded 22.1-22.6cm. Being with Dying: Cultivating Compassion and Fearlessness in the Presence of Death The Buddhist approach to death can be of great benefit to people of all backgrounds—as has been demonstrated time and again in Joan Halifax’s decades of work with the dying and their caregivers. Inspired by traditional Buddhist teachings, her work is a source of wisdom for all those who are charged with a dying person’s care, facing their own death, or wishing to explore and contemplate the transformative power of the dying process. Her teachings affirm that we can open and contact our inner strength, and that we can help others who are suffering to do the same. The Duel: Pakistan on the Flight Path of American Power Now in paperback, from a writer with unrivalled access and knowledge, a riveting portrait of America’s closest ally in the war on terror as it spirals into political chaos. The sixth most populous country in the world, Pakistan is the only Islamic state to have nuclear weapons. Its border with Afghanistan extends over 1,000 miles and is the likely hideout of Osama bin Laden. Yet it is the linchpin in the United States’ war on terror, receiving over $10 billion of American aid since 2001 and purchasing more than $5 billion of U.S. weaponry in 2006 alone. With unilateral incursions into Pakistan by U.S. troops pursuing Taliban fighters, and surveys indicating that more than seventy percent of Pakistanis fear America as a military threat, relations between the two countries remain tense. The scion of a famous Punjabi political family, with extraordinary contacts inside the country and internationally, Tariq Ali has long been acknowledged as a leading commentator on Pakistan. In The Duel, he combines deep understanding of the country’s history with extensive firsthand research and unsparing political judgment to weigh the prospects of those contending for power today. (7) Sheikh Chilli’s Tomb, Thanesar The site of Kurukshetra is synonymous with the Mahabharata war. It is situated south of the now dried-up bed of the river Saraswati, modern Sarsuti and north of the river Drshadvati, which ormed the holy land of Brahmavarta. Thanesar (ancient Sthanis/v/ara) was the capital of the Vardhana or the Pushyabhuti Dynasty who ruled over a major part of North India. The great Sanskrit poet Banabhatta, in his Harshcharita has also described the association of Harsha with Thanesar in detail. He mentions in his text, the defence wall, a moat and the palace with a two-storied dhvalagriha. The present town of Thanesar (760 49'; 290 30') is located on an ancient mound, which is quite large both in terms of its height and area. It is about 163 kms, North-West of Delhi, between Ambala and Karnal. To reach Kamal one takes the Grand Trunk Road to Pip Ii from where it is approx. 8 kms further west. In the Historical period, the Grand Trunk road must have passed through the town of Thanesar, as there still exists an old Bridge and Sarai adjacent to the Sheikh Chilli's Tomb which probably is datable to the reign of Sher Shah Suri or slightly later. This beautiful tomb and attached Madarsa are associated with the Sufi Saint Abd-ur-Rahim, alais Abd-UI-Karim, alais Abd-ur-Razak, popularly known by the name of Sheikh Chehli, believed to be the spiritual Guru of the Mughal Prince, Dara Sikoh (A.D. 1650). The architectural plan shows considerable Persian influence. Due to its unique and higWy sophisticated architectural value is ranked second only to the Taj Mahal is Northern India. The monument was protected and declared as of National importance under section 4 of the Ancient Monument and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958; Vide No. 8516, dated 27-03-1919. Close to the western gate of the Madarsa, is the small yet elegant Pathar Masjid of red sandstones. It is remarkable for its fluted minarets, which are attached to its back wall. The ceiling of the mosque, resting on pillars is decorated with floral designs carved in low relief. The pillars are also profusely decorated with floral designs, while the bases over the mouldings show chaitya-window motifs. The qibla in the centre of the western wall is flanked on either side by two arched niches inscribed with verses from the Quran. The masonry terrace forming the front court was added at a later date. The masjid is assignable to the seventeenth Century A.D. Adjoining the southern flank of the complex (i.e. north of the tomb of Sheikh Chilli) is a large sized building which on account of both stratigraphic evidence and style of construction appears to be a garden complex following the pattern of a typical Mughal Garden and is divided into four equal, symmetrical parts (the charbagh pattern) with a square hauz in the centre. Water to the hauz (tank) was supplied by terracotta pipes from the east, concealed within the wall. On the eastern side of the central hauz there is a small rectangular tank connected with a raised open drain coming from further east. The tank had on the northern side a small cistern having cusped patterns on both longitudinal ends and a copper fountain in the centre. The water used to run through a concealed conduit pipe provided below the lime plastered surface, meant for the flow of water from the cascade. The Park now popular as the Harshvardhan Park is entered through an elaborate double-storeyed gateway, located in the centre of the eastern wall from which one of the paths leads to all its four sides, hosting on the exterior, a series of double- roomed chambers, on three sides i, e, the east, north and west respectively with provision of niches and alcoves on its walls. The western wing of this sarai however had double storeyed chambers which could be reached through a flight of steps provided at the centre and towards the extreme south-western corner. Exactly opposite to the main entrance gateway was another majestic structure, constructed just like the main entrance gateway. However this structure didn't carry any entrance from the ground floor, but had an opening towards the west on the upper storey. This opening on the upper floor gave a direct accessibility from the Raja Harsha-ka- Tila located west of the sarai and the chamber is constructed in such a way that probably this was the place from where an authority used to address the gathering below within the sarai. West of the tomb are the ruins of Harsh-ka- Tila. Excavations conducted at this site revealed a continuous habitation at the site from about the first century A.D. to the late Mughal period. The findings of a few sherds of painted Grey Ware along with associated plain grey, black-slipped and red wares in pre-Kushana levels also suggest the inhabitation of the site in the first millennium B.C. On the basis of various identifiable remains, the excavations revealed a sequence of six cultural periods. Bahamas Memorial Picture taken of a service commemorating United Nations servicemen who died in WW2 including my gran's cousin Flight Sergeant Fred Pearce. I believe this picture was taken at a memorial in the Bahamas near to where Fred's flight was lost but can find no record of the memorial. Man in white suit was the Governor of the bahamasSir William Lindsay Murphy. Typing on back of photo says "The governor, aide and family stand at attention during the last post 11th of november 1945. The memorial leads from the entrance directly opposite the lychgate The two tree's at the back are laurels which in about a year will meet directly over the centre of the memorial. A small closely growing vine climbs over the stonework. A vine, Pink Bandora is trained over the memorial and will eventually meet over the centre" on the way to the bahamas our view from the plane. this flight was SO turbulent that my bum left the seat several times even though i was strapped in, and people's hands, and books, were regularly thrown into the air involuntarily. at one point, i considered prayer. Living nativity scene - a late entry for LEGO BCN And what's behind the final door of the advent? It's a living Nativity scene! Complete with Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus, 2 Shepherds with a little lamb, the 3 Magi with presents and a camel and last but not least an angel with sparkly wings. I would have loved to add a brown cow (as ox) but the part maximum of 20 pieces didn't allow a 5 part cow to participate. Just imagine a cow standing behind the shepherds :p. I used a total of 20 pieces. Which was really hard considering I wanted all the characters, plus the animals and some essential little details. Live Action Busy PJ Dress - This outfit is made from the same MOD fabric as the last Living Barbie swimsuit and skirt outfit. Doll - The body is from a European Western Barbie doll. These had the living/live action body style, except that also had "busy" hands to hold things. The head is from a TRUS Barbie and Friends set (Barbie/Ken/PJ) and PJ was listed as Barbie's Doll's Cousin on the box. Alexandra Paul - Baywatch Babe PICT0106xjpg ALEXANDRA'S BAYWATCH DIARY Thursday, September 26th, 2002 Last night I had a call from the 1st Unit AD (assistant director) saying they were moving my call time from 10:45am to 11am, and a second call from the Polly, the 2nd Unit director, needing me at 6am. I didnt mind the earlier call, as this is the last day, and I want to work as much as I can! I am also glad to be first up for 2nd Unit, because that means that they will definitely get my shots in and I wont have to work on Friday, although apparently we have to be done today, the higher ups (Fox TV) mandates it. There are three units filming today, to get everything done. All our shots today are outdoors daylight shots, so I know we cant go until 2:30am like they did last Friday with Yasmine and Billy (that 22 hour workday added over $40,000 to the budget. A big rescue scene the following Monday was changed to save $20,000, to make up in part for the overage). But we do have alot of work to do... It is a beautiful, sunny morning and the ocean is calm for the first time in a week. I work with our water director, Greg Barnett, who is the Baywatch stunt coordinator, but who also has done stunts on Waterworld, Blue Crush, Mel Gibson movies, you name it. He is the most energetic, positive man you could ever meet. He looks exactly the same as he did ten years ago, and I attribute it to his wonderful attitude, a loving family, a job he loves and excels at that also keeps him in phenomenal shape, and a deep faith in a god. Brian Kealanu is also working on the water stuff - he is the son of Buffalo Kealanu (famous surfer and lifeguard) - and is a pioneering lifeguard in his own right. We shoot more swimming shots, which of course I love doing, and a shot where I am attacked, and then I am done for that unit. I get to go home to rinse off, and they call me back in at 2pm for my scenes with 1st Unit. Yikes - we are a little behind and there are only 4 1/2 more hours of light left... The scene is one of the last in the movie- and the last one on our filming schedule: a fight scene with David, Jeremy, Nicole, Gena and me. The fight is choreographed by Barnett, and is mostly David, but Gena has to punch me out and I get to handle a gun. Guys are used to fight scenes, but we women dont get them nearly as much, so I need some tips on how to carry the gun in a real manner and how to take a screen punch. I have played several law enforcement people in my career, but it has been a while. My last roles were lovers, not fighters! Gena is worried she is going to hit me for real, as I guess on her series, "Sheena", she by mistake connected her fist with many a costar. I am having trouble remembering to drop the gun, react properly to the punch and fall to the ground in camera range. Sigh. This is no time to need extra takes, as the sun is setting, but I screw up two takes. We get it on the third one, thank goodness. It is getting dark, so they need to light our part of the beach a bit. While they are doing that, I go to 3rd Unit and see if I can slip in a title shot. Title shots are the shots each actor gets under their credit in the opening of the show. Slow-mo, heroic, sexy etc. They are shooting Brande's title shot when I get to that set (just 100 yards away from 1st Unit). She was Playmate of the Year recently, I think, but she doesnt want to wear a bikini, so she is wearing a rash guard (a skin tight long sleeve turtle neck for surfing). I am not clear if this is because she doesnt feel comfortable with how she looks to wear a suit, or if she wants to shed the Bikini Babe image and that is why she is wearing something more modest. I reassure her that she looks great, and she agrees tie up the rash guard to show a bit more skin. Believe me, beautiful women focus on and worry about their body flaws as much as any other American woman, and I know that because I see it every day on this set. Brande is very beautiful, and I cant see a flaw on her, but she does. David shoots his title shots and he looks fabulous, too. The best he has ever looked, I think. David just turned 50, and that sober living has obviously contributed to his fine form. I want a title shot, but because of the complexity of my character (I cant reveal the plot, but you'll see...), the general feeling among the muckety mucks is that, even though I have a large part in the movie, a title shot for me doesnt totally fit. My credit will be there' "and Alexandra Paul as...", but they want rescue footage under it. I understand their point of view, but I looooove title shots - they make you look cool, which I love being! The director, David Hagar (who has edited every Baywatch montage), wants to shoot me, and we figure they dont have to use it if they dont want to. It is dark out now, but we shoot me running out of the ocean towards camera anyway. As David says, it works with my character. We will see if they use 109/365 This is what happens when you spend 27 hours travelling. Landed from Morocco an hour late, and then had to wait 50 minutes for luggage to come through. By the time we'd driven back to Southampton it was midnight. Quick re-pack of bags and sleep, and then up at 5.30am to catch the National Express back to Heathrow Airport. Then a 10.5 hour flight (TEN AND A HALF HOURS!!! no-one told me it was going to be that long!!) to LA, an hour and a half layover in LA, then on to Honolulu. Shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel in Waikiki, and unsurprisingly, this is how interested I look in life. A teaser. Anyway, this is just a short teaser of a story I'd been working on since I was 12, I believe. And not to worry, this is a much better version from last year, I was a horrible writer when I was 12 xD lol. Good at planning plots just a horrible writer, haha. Please, enjoy and comment! Midnight Flight "Ariel are you coming or not?" Moira asked her best friend, giving a frusterated sigh. Ariel bit her bottom lip anxiously, her caring grey eyes darting around her and Moira's room. "They'll know..." she hissed, looking out the window which Moira was perched on the ledge of. "No they won't, Ariel." Moira rolled her dark brown eyes at her friends hesitation to join her. Ariel didn't like to sneak out of school after hours. She used to, when her and Moira were younger, about fourteen, but one night when they had planned on sneaking out with a small group of friends, Ariel got caught by one of the schools Gaurds and had gotten detention for an entire week. Only because they had discovered her alone, trying to sneak out; the rest of the group had hidden in time. And even though they had suspected other students had been involved, they didn't know who had been involved and Ariel wasn't about to rat out on her friends just because she didn't hide in time. Nevertheless Ariel hadn't tried to sneak out again, since then. For fear that she'd get caught and this time expelled instead of given a small tap on the wrist. "But I just have this...feeling, like something might happen." "You always have those feelings, Airy." Moira sighed, staring down at the empty cobbled street thirteen stories below her. A street lamp on the corner was the only light provided for the still lane. "Well, it's more than a feeling, Moira, it's...Urgh! I know it's a vision of somekind; I just can't get all of it, it's...fuzzy." "Maybe we'll meet up with a woolly mammoth?" "I don't mean that kind of fuzzy. It's blurry, unclear, vague, indistinct --" "Yes, yes, I get it. The P.T.B sent you a dud vision. So what?" "But it's not just a 'dud vision' it's the sensation that comes with it...it's eerie. You shouldn't go out there, tonight, please." Moira rubbed her temples, closing her eyes. She could see the vision, too, a great big blob of colors. Green, brown, blue...like a forest and sky mixed together. It gave her a headache just to close her eyes and catch a glimpse of the hazy image. But Ariel was right; the eerie sensation was there, nonetheless. Still, it would take alot more than that to keep Moira from exploring the night. "Fine, if you don't want to go..." Moira tipped herself off the windowsill, dropping into freefall. Moira! Ariels usually soft voice, was now a furious scream echoing in her head. Moira turned upwards at the last minute, hovering only a few inches above the cobbled lane and drifted up to the fourteenth window, Yes? Moira glared at her friend. Do you enjoy almost giving me a heartattack? Ariels voice was back to it's soft tone, but with an acidic edge to it. I wouldn't know..haven't given you one, yet. Moira smirked. But you're bound to kill yourself if you freefall like that again! "Whatever, Airy..." Moira waved her hand dismissively, and with that she headed up over the roof, Ariel's voice litterally nagging in the back of head. Finally her voice faded into nothingness and Moira knew she'd reached the limit to how far they could be apart while using telepathy. Moira closed her eyes, enjoying the nights cool air nipping at her face as she flew through the silent empty night. Behind the closed lids of her eyes, Moira saw the vision forming once again, the blurred image of what she took to be a forest, the night surrouding her and...something else...an orange-yellow light, speeding betweent the trees, too fast for her to register. Moira opened her eyes just in time to see the exact same light, swerving inbetween the many trees of the thick forest beneath her. It sparked Moira's interest, though that wasn't very hard to do. Moira dived down, the night's air no longer felt pleasant as it whipped across every inch of skin that wasn't clothed. Her bare feet hit the forests floor, hard and cold beneath them. She looked around, eyes searching wildly for that mysterious light. She caught a quick glance of it rushing through the darkness. She ran after it, dodging, ducking, jumping over roots and in the way branches. Her heart pumping fast as she chased after the light that had caught her eye, her breathing fast and shallow, pulse ridiculasly rapid. Moira halted to a skidding stop when she came across a pratically solid w Eddie August Schneider (1911-1940) makes record flight east Schneider Makes Record Flight East. Pilot, 18, Cuts Goldsborough's Junior Coast-To-Coast Mark By 1 1/2 Hours. Lowers Round-Trip Time. Jersey City High School Boy Arrives From Los Angeles In 27 Hours 19 Minutes, Dodging Storm On Way. Roosevelt Field, Long Island; August 24, 1930. In his trim little Cessna monoplane Edward Schneider, 18-year-old high school student, roared across the field here this afternoon, descended in a series of tight spiral turns and touched his wheels at 4:03 to establish new junior transcontinental flying records. Despite two setbacks, one over Kansas when his compass refused to function, and another when a storm overtook him over the treacherous Alleghenies on today's non-stop leg from Columbus, Ohio, the youthful pilot set his flying time between Los Angeles and Roosevelt Field at 27 hours and 36 minutes the former mark of 29 hours 55 minutes set by Frank Goldsborough, who was killed recently in a crash in the White Mountains. Schneider was greeted by his father, Emil A. Schneider, of 114 Carleton Avenue, Jersey City, others of the family and 2,500 enthusiastic Sunday visitors to the field here. He started from Los Angeles last Thursday and made three overnight stops en route. On landing, he said that the storm was on its way here, and stood by while mechanics hurried his plane into a hanger. He said that he was too hungry to talk about his trip. Then when his hunger had been partially appeased by a sandwich the young pilot related his experiences on the last leg of his flight. Weather reports had not been too good when he was ready to take off from Columbus. He counted on an even chance to ‘get through,’ however, and pushed on with the knowledge that he was on the air mail route, with its emergency landing fields and better sectional airports at frequent intervals in case he were forced down. As he neared Uniontown, Pennsylvania, he had to leave the course about thirty miles to the south, he said, to avoid a severe storm which was then over Pittsburgh. As he came up over the Alleghenies, approaching Middletown from the west, a strong headwind was encountered which brought with it s strata of low-hanging clouds. He could not see the ground for a while, he said, as he flew above the clouds rather than hitting one of the mountains. With no landmarks to check by and no radio guidance, he headed for New York by compass and got his next land check near Stroudsbourg, Pennsylvania. Keeping the mail route under him, again he headed for New Brunswick and, finding visibility fair beneath him, he continued on over the flats of New Jersey, the Hudson and East rivers and the outlying sections of New York City. He maintained high attitude so he would be able to wheel and run from thickening weather which was approaching. A few moments after he landed here the skies darkened and mechanics and others on the field rushed their planes into hangers or took precautions to prevent them from being damaged in the approaching storm Schneider and his family left the field almost immediately and motored to their home in Jersey City. In addition to lowering Goldsborough’s record for the trip from Los Angeles to New York Schneider also broke the junior records for the east-west trip last week and the record for the round trip journey concluded today. He left Westfield, New Jersey, last week and, with several overnight stops en route, landed at Los Angeles in 29 hours and 55 minutes of flying time, 4 hours and 22 minutes faster than Goldsborough’s time over the same route. His flying time for the round trip was therefore 57 hours and 14 minutes, against his predecessor’s record of 62 hours and 58 minutes.
