Lodge Logic L8SK3 10-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet
Seasoned, ready to use. This skillet is a kitchen's most essential item. The even heating of cast iron is necessary for golden, tender, perfectly pan-fried chicken. What other cookware can rival the heat retention, versatility, value and durability of cast iron.. 10-1/4 inch diameter.
The American-based company Lodge has been fine-tuning its construction of red, cast-iron cookware for more than a century. No other metal is as long-lasting and works as well for spreading and retaining heat evenly during cooking. Lodge's Logic line of cookware comes factory pre-seasoned with the company's vegetable oil formula, and is ready to use right out of the box. After cooking, simply scrub the cast iron with a stiff brush and hot water, no soap, and dry immediately.
Breakfast in particular somehow tastes extra hearty when cooked in a heavy cast-iron skillet. Cast iron loves a campfire, a stovetop, or an oven, and can slow-cook foods without scorching and sear meat at higher temperatures. A good all-purpose size at 10-1/4 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep, this skillet can fry up eggs, pancakes, steaks, chicken, hamburgers, and can bake desserts and casseroles as well. A helper handle aids in lifting, and the looped primary handle allows hanging. Two side spouts pour off grease or juice. Even though the pan comes pre-seasoned, applying a little vegetable oil before use helps prevent food from sticking. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations and is covered by a lifetime warranty. --Ann Bieri
3 inch 20cwt Anti-aircraft gun
3 inch 20cwt Anti-aircraft gun, Mark III British Dated 1918
This was the first British artillery piece to be designed exclusivley for anti-aircraft use during the First World War. It was relatively sucessful and was used mounted on a pedastal, as shown here, or on a Peerless lorry during both the First and Second World Wars. The earlier versions were fitted with a semi-automatic breech, it closed up automatically behind it, making loading much faster. The gun was adopted for naval use and it was used widely for air defence in Britian during the Second World War.
This type of gun was used by 70 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment (HAA), a predecessor of 103 Regiment (V) during the Second World War.

The R H Forschner by Victorinox Paring Knife features high carbon, stainless steel blade, hand finished at Victorinox in Switzerland by skilled craftsmen. A special tempering process is used to produce an edge that can be resharpened over and over again, so the knife can keep its original sharpness throughout the entire life of the blade. Victorinox handles are ergonomically designed to minimize wrist tension. They provide a natural fit. A good heft and comfortable, positive grip are indications of a well-made knife. Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of the handle minimize crevices what would offer hospitality to bacteria.

The Allis-Chalmers Story: Classic American Tractors
The signature orange of Allis-Chalmers tractors symbolizes
the reliability and innovation of the company, its sales
methods and its products. Today, tractor and farming
equipment enthusiasts continue to be fascinated by
Allis-Chalmers and the history behind its success. This
remarkable pictorial history leads them through 150 years of
tractor and farm equipment production from one of the top
names in the industry.
This tour through Allis Chalmers history begins with the
founding of Gate Iron Works in 1842, and ends with the final
Deutz-Allis merger in 1985. All Allis-Chalmers equipment
produced within that period is featured in over 1,500 detailed
photos and captions. The book also covers the firms absorbed
by Allis through their history including Advance-Rumely,
Monarch, and LaCrosse.
? Over 1,500 detailed photos of all Allis-Chalmers equipment
Allis Chalmers started out as a small burr millstone maker in 1847. By 1979 they had grown into a $2 billion corporation and were one of the important machinery and tractor manufacturers in the United States. The original company, known as "Edward P. Allis & Company" was built by E. P. Allis of New York after acquiring a shop called "The Reliance Works". The Reliance Works' list of products included French burr millstones, portable mills, water wheels, shafting, hoisting screws and much more.
In 1869 the company expanded into steam power and soon after followed the first Allis steam engine. The company line-up grew to include steam pumps including the largest centrifugal pump in America in 1884 and the first triple expansion pumping engine two years later.
In 1901, the "Allis Chalmers" company was formed by merging the Edward P. Allis Co., Fraser and Chalmers Company and Gates Iron Works. Shortly after, a large chunk of land was purchased in what became West Allis, Wisconsin. Wanting to diversify, Allis Chalmers built its first farm tractor in 1914. The tractor business grew, and in 1928 a line of crawler tractors was started. The acquistion of several additional companies in the upcoming years, such as the LaCrosse Plow Company and Advance-Rumely added an extensive line of tillage implements, threshers and combines to the line-up.
When Allis Chalmers decided to focus on the small and medium sized farmer, they came up with new designs that turned out to be one of the most popular series of tractors ever produced. The WC tractor was first built in 1933 as a prototype tractor. Soon to follow was the Model B tractor which was very popular. Next in line was the Model C tractor which ame on the market in 1940. Followed by the Allis Chalmers CA tractor in 1950, the WD tractor in 1948 and the Allis Chalmers WD45 tractor in 1953.
Allis Chalmers continued to modernize their tractors throughout their history.
Allis Chalmers Type B (1949)
The Allis-Chalmers model B was produced by the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing company from 1938 to 1957. With over 125,000 units produced, the model B became one of the best selling tractors for Allis-Chalmers and most loved tractors of its time. Known best for its versatility and adaptability, the model B was also one of the longest production tractors for Allis-Chalmers as well. Over the years of production the B came in several different variations including the asparagus B, Potato special, as well as an industrial model known as the IB. It was designed by Brooks Stevens an industrial designer and graphic designer.
In the early thirties, Allis-Chalmers tractor division manager Harry Merritt studied the farm census figures and discovered that of the nearly seven million farms in America, some four million were of 100 acres (0.40 km2) or less. Furthermore, the million or so tractors at work on American farms were nearly all on the larger ones. Merritt concluded that there was a need for four million small, inexpensive tractors to fill the needs of the small farmers still using horses. Merritt set out to build the tractor that would finally put the horse out to pasture.
The Model B was not Allis-Chalmers' smallest tractor, however; they produced a Model G from 1948 to 1955 with only about 10 drawbar horsepower.

Get a rare, inside look at one of Americas most historic farm companies in this book from ASAE. Allis-Chalmers Farm Equipment 1914-1985 uncovers the interesting behind-the-scenes stories surrounding A-Cs tractor and equipment line.

car under ice ridge on driveway
This is not my usual Flickr post, I know.
We had a 4 or 5 inch snow a few days ago, followed by a little freezing rain. (Thank God, no one in our area seemed to have lost power, which often happens with freezing rain, as the power lines snap from the weight, or branches break and fall and break the lines.) Much of the snow, at least what isn't in the shade, has melted. But a lot of the ice hasn't. (Probably because it's transparent, and doesn't absorb much energy.) My wife had the brilliant idea of using this ice ridge, where there used to be a snow ridge, but the snow melted out from under the ice, in our driveway, to show this phenomenon, using some of the toy cars we keep for when little ones come to visit. Here's one of the results.
Thanks for looking.

Interpreting Zheng Chenggong
Zheng Chenggong (1624 - 1662) was sired by Chinese merchant-pirate in Hirado, Japan. A general at the end of the Chinese Ming Dynasty, he was a prominent leader of the movement opposing the Manchu Qing Dynasty, and in recovering Taiwan from Dutch colonial occupation in 1661. Honored as a hero in Japan, China, and Taiwan, he has been dramatized in many plays in various theatre forms in Japan (since about 1700), China (since 1906), and Taiwan (since the 1920s). Yet his portrayals in these plays are drastically different, depending on the dramatists' intention of writing, view of history, and artistic tools. This book, in order to demonstrate the cultural and political construction of this historical figure, examines the history of the dramatization of Zheng, by comparing selected texts from Japan, China, and Taiwan, written between 1700 and the 1960s, with regard to the historical contexts.

Wheelie saying something
The booty from Sunday's Mini Show. 4 3.5 x 10 Mini wheels before they go for a good blasting, especially the one that's in the right middle. Yes I know it's a bit boring compared to some of the other alloy wheels you can get for Minis (though I like Dunlop D1s, Minilites/rosepetals or Cosmics on a Mk3 Mini), but I'm going for a reasonably original look for Felix (I like the understated look). :) Also it's cheaper than S rims, which I did consider for a long time (because Felix has S brakes), but in the end I decided that in cost terms, it was hardly worth it. Once I'd factored the cost of blasting and paint/lacquer, the total outlay would roughly be around ?30 per wheel maximum. Bearing in mind that a brand new S rim is around ?60-70 without tyres, I may as well put the money saved towards tyres, then hopefully make my money back (at least) when I flog the Wellers with tyres currently on the old lad.
And this is why I think it was never meant to have a front brake. The side of the rim is too shallow to allow decent braking. I have ordered some cream Delta cruiser tyres as these are badly cracked in places.
Tempting to fit a cheap alloy wheel to improve braking.

MCNY - America’s Mayor: John V. Lindsay and the Reinvention of New York
America’s Mayor: John V. Lindsay and the Reinvention of New York on view at the Museum of the City of New York from May 5 through October 3, 2010.
On February 10, 1969, New York City was hit with 15 inches of snow, the worst in 8 years. On the first day, 14 people died and 68 were injured. Within a day, the mayor was criticized for giving favored treatment to Manhattan at the expense of some areas of The Bronx, Staten Island and Queens. Charges were made that a city worker elicited a bribe to clean streets in Queens Over a week later, streets in eastern Queens remained unplowed, enraging residents. Lindsay traveled to Queens, but his visit was not well received. His car could not make its way through Rego Park, and even in a four-wheel-drive truck, he had trouble getting around. In Kew Gardens Hills, the mayor was booed; one woman screamed, “You should be ashamed of yourself.” In Fresh Meadows, a woman told the mayor, “Get away, you bum.” During the mayor’s walk through Fresh Meadows, a woman called him “a wonderful man,” prompting the mayor to respond, “And you’re a wonderful woman, not like those fat Jewish broads up there,” pointing to women in a nearby building who had criticized him. The blizzard, dubbed the "Lindsay Snowstorm", prompted a political crisis that became "legendary in the annals of municipal politics" as the scenes, captured on national television, conveyed a message that the mayor of New York was indifferent to the middle class.

To Have and Have Not (To Have & Have Not Hre)
Harry Morgan was hard, the classic Hemingway hero, rum-running, gun-running and man-running from Cuba to the Florida Keys in the depression. He ran risks, too, from stray coastguard bullets and sudden double-crosses. But it was the only way he could keep his boat, keep his independence, and keep his belly full. "This active, passionate life on the verge of the tropics is perfect material for the Hemingway style, and the reader carries away from the book a sense of freshness and exhilaration; trade winds, southern cities and warm seas all admirably described by the instrument of precision with which he writes." - "New Statesman".
First things first: readers coming to To Have and Have Not after seeing the Bogart/Bacall film should be forewarned that about the only thing the two have in common is the title. The movie concerns a brave fishing-boat captain in World War II-era Martinique who aids the French Resistance, battles the Nazis, and gets the girl in the end. The novel concerns a broke fishing-boat captain who agrees to carry contraband between Cuba and Florida in order to feed his wife and daughters. Of the two, the novel is by far the darker, more complex work.
The first time we meet Harry Morgan, he is sitting in a Havana bar watching a gun battle raging out in the street. After seeing a Cuban get his head blown off with a Luger, Morgan reacts with typical Hemingway understatement: "I took a quick one out of the first bottle I saw open and I couldn't tell you yet what it was. The whole thing made me feel pretty bad." Still feeling bad, Harry heads out in his boat on a charter fishing expedition for which he is later stiffed by the client. With not even enough money to fill his gas tanks, he is forced to agree to smle some illegal Chinese for the mysterious Mr. Sing. From there it's just a small step to carrying liquor--a disastrous run that ends when Harry loses an arm and his boat. Once Harry gets mixed up in the brewing Cuban revolution, however, even those losses seem small compared to what's at stake now: his very life.
Hemingway tells most of this story in the third person, but, significantly, he brackets the whole with a section at the beginning told from Harry's perspective and a short, heart-wrenching chapter at the end narrated by his wife, Marie. In between there is adventure, danger, betrayal, and death, but this novel begins and ends with the tough and tender portrait of a man who plays the cards that are dealt him with courage and dignity, long after hope is gone. --Alix Wilber

In 1918 Ernest Hemingway went to war, to the 'war to end all wars'. He volunteered for ambulance service in Italy, was wounded and twice decorated. Out of his experience came A Farewell to Arms. Hemingway's description of war is unforgettable. He recreates the fear, the comradeship, the courage of his young American volunteer, and the men and women he meets in Italy, with total conviction. But A Farewell to Arms is not only a novel of war. In it Hemingway has also created a love story of immense drama and uncompromising passion.
As a youth of 18, Ernest Hemingway was eager to fight in the Great War. Poor vision kept him out of the army, so he joined the ambulance corps instead and was sent to France. Then he transferred to Italy where he became the first American wounded in that country during World War I. Hemingway came out of the European battlefields with a medal for valor and a wealth of experience that he would, 10 years later, spin into literary gold with A Farewell to Arms. This is the story of Lieutenant Henry, an American, and Catherine Barkley, a British nurse. The two meet in Italy, and almost immediately Hemingway sets up the central tension of the novel: the tenuous nature of love in a time of war. During their first encounter, Catherine tells Henry about her fiance of eight years who had been killed the year before in the Somme. Explaining why she hadn't married him, she says she was afraid marriage would be bad for him, then admits:
I wanted to do something for him. You see, I didn't care about the other thing and he could have had it all. He could have had anything he wanted if I would have known. I would have married him or anything. I know all about it now. But then he wanted to go to war and I didn't know.
The two begin an affair, with Henry quite convinced that he "did not love Catherine Barkley nor had any idea of loving her. This was a game, like bridge, in which you said things instead of playing cards." Soon enough, however, the game turns serious for both of them and ultimately Henry ends up deserting to be with Catherine.
Hemingway was not known for either unbridled optimism or happy endings, and A Farewell to Arms, like his other novels (For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Sun Also Rises, and To Have and Have Not), offers neither. What it does provide is an unblinking portrayal of men and women behaving with grace under pressure, both physical and psychological, and somehow finding the courage to go on in the face of certain loss. --Alix Wilber

This contraption looks home-made. I wated to talk to the owner of the bike to find out some more information about these.
When he was riding off, they appeared to be lifted off teh ground, so perhaps they are just a parking aid.

Power Wheels Drivable Dollies - Wide--The Economical solution for all of your snowmobile moving needs. Power WheelsTM are both drivable and steerable. The oversized five inch wheels are constructed out of tough rubber with sintered bushings. These Big Wheel Dollies easily drive over most surfaces including grass, asphalt, concrete or most other surfaces and allow you to drive your snowmobile into your garage, up a trailer, or even reverse into tight spaces! For non-motorized use simply place the included rear caster plate under the track and slide your sled anywhere. Size: Wide Fits 7" - 10" snowmobile ski widths.
Airplanes, Bobhouses, and Snowmobiles, Oh My!
This photographer would humbly like to sest that a square mile that sits on top of a frozen lake and includes:
1) an active landing strip for airplanes
2) lots and lots of snowmobiles, ATVs, and SUVs speeding around
3) ice-fishermen and bobhouses
...is, to say the least, a fairly interesting place to gawk at.
After I built my Alpine Commando, I pieced together a snowmobile for quick escapes.
snowmobile wheel dollies
The V Slide dolly system is ideal for all snowmobiles and fits all ski widths. Our dollies come with "Easy Roll" casters for both the front and rear plates. These casters have oversized 3" wheels with two ply construction and a sintered steel center bushing. This makes the wheels both tough and easy to move. In side by side comparisons our V Slide system reduced pushing effort by 50%. Our heavy duty front plates have double lock straps to assure that the ski stays firmly attached on any surface or direction. The front plates measure approximately 8" long x 10" wide x 4" tall. The rear plate measures approximately 8" across x 4" tall. Color: Silver 2 Year Warranty

High-Speed Signaling: Jitter Modeling, Analysis, and Budgeting (Prentice Hall Modern Semiconductor Design Series)
New System-Level Techniques for Optimizing Signal/Power Integrity in High-Speed Interfaces--from Pioneering Innovators at Rambus, Stanford, Berkeley, and MIT
As data communication rates accelerate well into the multi-gigahertz range, ensuring signal integrity both on- and off-chip has become crucial. Signal integrity can no longer be addressed solely through improvements in package or board-level design: Diverse engineering teams must work together closely from the earliest design stages to identify the best system-level solutions. In High-Speed Signaling, several of the field’s most respected practitioners and researchers introduce cutting-edge modeling, simulation, and optimization techniques for meeting this challenge.
Edited by pioneering experts Drs. Dan Oh and Chuck Yuan, these contributors explain why noise and jitter are no longer separable, demonstrate how to model their increasingly complex interactions, and thoroughly introduce a new simulation methodology for predicting link-level performance with unprecedented accuracy.
The authors address signal integrity from architecture through high-volume production, thoroughly discussing design, implementation, and verification. Coverage includes
New advances in passive-channel modeling, power-supply noise and jitter modeling, and system margin prediction
Methodologies for balancing system voltage and timing budgets to improve system robustness in high-volume manufacturing
Practical, stable formulae for converting key network parameters
Improved solutions for difficult problems in the broadband modeling of interconnects
Equalization techniques for optimizing channel performance
Important new insights into the relationships between jitter and clocking topologies
New on-chip measurement techniques for in-situ link performance testing
Trends and future directions in signal integrity engineering
High-Speed Signaling thoroughly introduces new techniques pioneered at Rambus and other leading high-tech companies and universities: approaches that have never before been presented with this much practical detail. It will be invaluable to everyone concerned with signal integrity, including signal and power integrity engineers, high-speed I/O circuit designers, and system-level board design engineers.
We Choose to go to the Moon...
President Pitzer, Mr. Vice President, Governor, Congressman Thomas, Senator Wiley, and Congressman Miller, Mr. Webb, Mr. Bell, scientists, distinguished guests, and ladies and gentlemen:
I appreciate your president having made me an honorary visiting professor, and I will assure you that my first lecture will be very brief.
I am delighted to be here and I'm particularly delighted to be here on this occasion.
We meet at a college noted for knowledge, in a city noted for progress, in a state noted for strength, and we stand in need of all three, for we meet in an hour of change and challenge, in a decade of hope and fear, in an age of both knowledge and ignorance. The greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds.
Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today, despite the fact that this Nation's own scientific manpower is doubling every 12 years in a rate of growth more than three times that of our population as a whole, despite that, the vast stretches of the unknown and the unanswered and the unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension.
No man can fully grasp how far and how fast we have come, but condense, if you will, the 50 thousand years of man's recorded history in a time span of but a half-century. Stated in these terms, we know very little about the first 40 years, except at the end of them advanced man had learned to use the skins of animals to cover them. Then about 10 years ago, under this standard, man emerged from his caves to construct other kinds of shelter. Only five years ago man learned to write and use a cart with wheels. Christianity began less than two years ago. The printing press came this year, and then less than two months ago, during this whole 50-year span of human history, the steam engine provided a new source of power. Newton explored the meaning of gravity. Last month electric lights and telephones and automobiles and airplanes became available. Only last week did we develop penicillin and television and nuclear power, and now if America's new spacecraft succeeds in reaching Venus, we will have literally reached the stars before midnight tonight.
This is a breathtaking pace, and such a pace cannot help but create new ills as it dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new dangers. Surely the opening vistas of space promise high costs and hardships, as well as high reward.
So it is not surprising that some would have us stay where we are a little longer to rest, to wait. But this city of Houston, this state of Texas, this country of the United States was not built by those who waited and rested and wished to look behind them. This country was conquered by those who moved forward--and so will space.
William Bradford, speaking in 1630 of the founding of the Plymouth Bay Colony, said that all great and honorable actions are accompanied with great difficulties, and both must be enterprised and overcome with answerable courage.
If this capsule history of our progress teaches us anything, it is that man, in his quest for knowledge and progress, is determined and cannot be deterred. The exploration of space will go ahead, whether we join in it or not, and it is one of the great adventures of all time, and no nation which expects to be the leader of other nations can expect to stay behind in this race for space.
Those who came before us made certain that this country rode the first waves of the industrial revolution, the first waves of modern invention, and the first wave of nuclear power, and this generation does not intend to founder in the backwash of the coming age of space. We mean to be a part of it--we mean to lead it. For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace. We have vowed that we shall not see space filled with weapons of mass destruction, but with instruments of knowledge and understanding.
Yet the vows of this Nation can only be fulfilled if we in this Nation are first, and, therefore, we intend to be first. In short, our leadership in science and industry, our hopes for peace and security, our obligations to ourselves as well as others, all require us to make this effort, to solve these mysteries, to solve them for the good of all men, and to become the world's leading space-faring nation.
We set sail on this new sea because there is new knowledge to be gained, and new rights to be won, and they must be won and used for the progress of all people. For space science, like nuclear science and all technology, has no conscience of its own. Whether it will become a force for good or ill depends on man, and only if the United States occupies a position of pre-eminence can we help decide whether this new ocean will be a sea of peace or a new terrifying theater of war. I do not say that we should or will go
The Tiger Strikes Back 30th Anniversary Ellen Smith of Rochdale Duple Dominant IV Tiger FTD 758W
This week folks, marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Leyland Tiger. The launch took place during the middle of March 1981 and what a launch it was. Rather than launch the Tiger in Leyland, Lancashire, which is not the most glamorous location at the best of times. Leyland Bus top brass decided to hold the most fabulous launch ever for a vehicle outside of the UK. Rob Orchard, who master minded the launch, claims, it was cheaper not to have launched the Tiger in the UK, but he did not pick the bill up. The big launch took place over five days at Gibraltar and Tangier. Two groups of the trade press and operators were treated to the most expensive launch ever, the cost was over one million pounds, of tax payers money. In my eyes, it was a waste of money, my reason is: the three main customers for the Tiger, NBC, SBG and Ulsterbus, who between them purchased 350 Tigers each year, never needed to be told to purchase the Tiger, because they would be buying it! A large number of the operators flown over to Gibraltar, were buying DAF and Volvo coaches and would never buy a Tiger. By the end of 1981, only 100 Tigers were on the road, why launch a coach in March, when operators place orders for new coaches during the Autumn. Bedford launched their new YNT chassis at the 1980 Motor Show, with the first entering service with operators during the first four months of 1981, so Bedford got it right. After the big launch, Leyland ran ''the Tiger Strikes Back'' campaign and more money wasted. Leyland should have invested more money into the the deveopment of the Tiger and a better back up, more so in Europe. The glorly years for the Tiger was 1983,84 and 85 when it was the top selling coach chassis in the UK, selling 500 each of these years, apart from 1983, when sales topped 700 that year, most for the NBC. By 1986, the Volvo B10M knocked the Tiger of its number one spot. In 1990 only 98 Tigers were sold, the reson for this, the two main customers the NBC and SBG had being privatised. When production of the Tiger ceased in 1991 a grand total of 4,450 had been built. My photograph shows an Ellen Smith of Rochdale Duple Dominant IV Tiger, which was one of the first on the road in 1981.

The TL11 engine was under developed, main faults- oil leaks, piston liners weak, also under powered with only 218bhp on tap, towards the end of 1981 the Tiger 245 was announced. The TL11 engine originally had a one speed governor, this resulted in a surge of power when pulling away, great for the semi-automatic transmission, but not good with the ZF maunal transmission. When the Tiger 260 was announced in 1984, it used an all speed governor, which was later fitted to all the versions of the TL11 engines. The TL11 engine sat high in the chasis, which made removing the fuel injectors a problem, from 1986, the TL11 engine sat lower down. Other problems that the Tiger suffered from: Eaton rear axle suffered from cown wheel weakness, early Tigers used ram power assited steering shared with the Leopard, great when you have a large steering wheel like the Leopard, not good with the small Tiger steering wheel. The semi/fully automatic Hydracylic transmission was troublesum and took many years before all the bugs had been shaken out it. Without doubt, the Tiger had the best air suspension fitted to any mid-engined single deck chassis. The suspension was based on the Danish DAB system, DAB at the time were part of British Leyland.

Annalong Cornmill was built in the 1800s and operated until the 1960s and was one of the last working watermills in Northern Ireland. It contains a grain drying kiln and three pairs of millstones. It is powered by a 15 ft water wheel and a 1920s Marshall "hot-bulb" 20hp engine. Restoration began in 1983 after it was acquired by Newry and Mourne District Council, and it reopened in 1985.
Annalong harbour has received some regeneration over the past number of years. It dates back to the early 1800s and in later years was made bigger to receive schooners carrying granite to English cities and to import materials used to build the nearby dam at the Silent Valley. The harbour was enlarged in the 1880s to cope with the increased granite exports. A purpose built standard gauge railway was built from Annalong to transport almost all of the material for the construction of the reservoir. In recent years the harbour has been deepened and a pontoon added making it easier for small fishing boats and cruisers to dock at all states of the tide. In one of the neighbouring gardens the leading light for directing boats into the harbour remains.
