Crazy train

Crazy train

Ozzy Osbourne Crazy Train

Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate

Mental wounds not healing
Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds still screaming
Driving me insane
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words
Yeah

Heirs of a cold war
That's what we've become
Inheriting troubles I'm mentally numb
Crazy, I just cannot bear
I'm living with something that just isn't fair

Mental wounds not healing
Who and what's to blame
I'm going off the rails on a crazy train

august 22, 2009 - i have to teach one kindergarten general music class this year. since april has nearly every other kindergarten class (tracy also has one), i'm pretty much just going along with her plans. which means lots of guitar playing. which is something i could not do AT ALL a few days ago. tracy is letting me borrow her very first guitar (a 3/4 size, because 17 years of classical violin playing have ruined my hands for the guitar) and i've been plucking away ever since. i "officially" know how to play four chords (to get me through my first few hello songs and the modified doors song i'm doing with my 5th/6th graders), but i've been teaching myself to play the beatles' "blackbird" and john mayer's "comfortable" (and iron & wine's cover of "such great heights") ever since i got the instrument. every bit of teacher knowledge/instinct in me is screaming NO because this is so not the correct way how to learn to play a new instrument, but i don't even care. I AM SO HOOKED.

I thought that the Isul could be like a young Jorg Michael or something.

painting with light

painting with light

Life's been keeping me way too busy lately so unfortunately I haven't had much time for photography. Therefore I was quite happy today to find a moment to pick up my camera and try something new. I've heard about painting with light before but wasn't paying much attention to it until today when I came across a very inspirational shot on the internet.
It's taken me quite a few attempts and lighting techniques to get to this result but I had fun and learned a lot. I will definitely practice some more and also use different objects.

1260 and a 2016 alignment

1260 and a 2016 alignment

1260 X 3 = 3780 divide 21 (numbers used; 0=zero so not included) = 180 ; 3780 - 180 = 3600

3780 divide 12 = 315

I used 3 circles = 3 X 360 = 1080.
1080 divide the 8 compass points = 135 which is the diagonal opposite to 315 as shown above

1080 divide 60 = 18
In comments below you'll see a gif where there is an alignment between 18th hr/degrees and axial tilt. This is standing out significantly

Our new house has all kinds of perennials in the garden. It sounds nice but they're actually a hassle for people like us, pretty ignorant of how to care for horticulture and not really that keen on it either. Indoorsy. One of the nice things is every so often some unremarkable green mess turns all colorful and flowery, and that happened just today or yesterday to produce this trumpet flower (I think that's what it's called).

One had fallen on the grass and Leo heard us calling it a trumpet. He's cute, but he doesn't really know which end of a trumpet you blow into. It looks here more like he's playing the pan flute.

More or less unrelated: today he said, "Vaginas make me sad."

Violin shaped Chladni plate 145.2 Hz

Violin shaped Chladni plate 145.2 Hz

A thin metal plate shaken vertical by a post in the centre will vibrate in a certain mode pattern. The pattern can be made visible by sprinkling white sand or salt on the plate. The grains are shaken off the areas where the plate is moving most violently (the anti-nodes) and collects on the non-moving regions (nodal lines). This technique was originally invented by Robert Hooke, but made famous by Ernst Chladni in the late 18th century.

Violin makers use Chladni Figures to tune boards used to make violins. Here the violin is a sheet of aluminum about 1 meter long.

39/365: Violin bridge

39/365: Violin bridge

dps weekly assignment "bridges"

So I'm excited about this photo for a couple of reasons. The first being that I thought of this mid-day at work (I was contemplating how to make a guitar cake for my nephews birthday party this weekend, and it reminded me of my fathers collection of violins...which just so happen to contain a part called a "bridge") so I had been thinking of how I wanted the lighting (after work with the evening sun shining through the window), the angle I wanted to shoot, etc. etc. I was actually envisioning more shadows, and a longer view, but I really liked the look of the strings, so I went with this one. I usually wander around looking for something to shoot, but this one came to me and I was able to plan.

Another reason I am quite excited about this, is that it is my first time experimenting with RAW format. I don't quite understand all of the functions I am using yet in the editing program, but I learn better by experimenting, and then reading up on it, versus reading about things first then trying. Kind of backwards, but it's just how I prefer.

The back of Jose's violin

The back of Jose's violin

The sunlight was beautiful.
Jose was schlepping up the road for a performance at the Hippodrome in Baltimore ("the Disney shows, they pay the bills," but Jose doesn't think much of the music; he says he can practice the entire Lion King show in part of one afternoon). This is his pride and joy (which costs more than my house; I'm not joking). I was hoping the grain might catch the light nicely, but this pic still comes up short..
He had just finished playing a piece for me when in came Liz. Now here I have to mention that Jose has played for me MANY times over the years, which is why I couldn't help but notice--my mouth hanging open--that when he played the same piece a second time for Liz he played like nothing I've ever heard, like he found a whole new gear!

After he left I said to Liz, "Does he always play for you like that?" Liz said, "What do you mean?"

In-ter-est-ing . . .

The bows for these things look flimsy as shit, they weigh just ounces, but Jose's, which is cracked and repaired, still goes for about 30K (the one he really wants costs twice that).

GUNNE SAX CORSET SUN DRESS
Striped Rose Wallpaper Print -- S

Just think of tea-dyed fabric and antique wallpaper -- I really love the yesteryear print of the dress. Victorian was really big in the early 1970’s! This dress has all the classical Jessica styling -- the row of lace around the bodice and down the bust, the crocheted cotton for the ties. Nylon zipper in the back. This dress was loved -- it displays the wear of washing…no hole or tears, but slight fading and a little pilling on the top lace. Just imagine you’ve owned it all along!
Label: Gunne Sax by Jessica San Francisco.: washable. I would guess it’s cotton/poly mix.
