Cushman Silver Eagle overhead valve engine, 1965 model
Cushman had been the king for many years with its best selling model, the Cushman Eagle with its either 4.8 bhp Husky engine (street legal) or its larger partner, the 8 bhp Husky engine. All of the Husky engines had been cast iron flat head models. This model was Cushman's late attempt to recapture market share. Some historians of Cushman write that it was just too little and too late but its probably not one single thing that destroyed the American motor scooter. It was probably very complex and owed much of its demise to changing dynamics that no one understood well then, possibly not now.
