Challenges (Bicyclist) Art Poster- 16x20 custom fit with RichAndFramous Black 20 inch Poster Hangers

A challenge is a difficult task, especially one that the person making the attempt finds more enjoyable because of that difficulty. The bicycle, bike, or cycle is a pedal-driven, human-powered vehicle with two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other. Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number about one billion worldwide. They are the principal means of transportation in many regions. They also provide a popular form of recreation, and have been adapted for such uses as children's toys, adult fitness, military and police applications, courier services, and competitive sports. The bicycle has had a considerable effect on human society, in both the cultural and industrial realms.

3 kids- 3 seats

I built up this 3-seated jalopy from donated bikes. The chain set up needs some help. I am picking up more bikes this Saturday. I didn't have enough crap parts around to set it up properly. It does however ride as is. The kids didn't like it at first. Once they got the hang of it on the 2nd ride they were stoked. Until it came time to stop. They fell over and Johnny landed in the gutter water. He wasn't too happy.

Threads: The Reincarnation of Anne Boleyn

Threads: The Reincarnation of Anne Boleyn

In 1536, Henry and Anne are at the mercy of influences outside their control, explosively incompatible, and caught in a marriage that ends in betrayal so shocking that Anne requires lifetimes to recover.
Henry, seemingly in defense of Anne (but more likely acting out of "stubborn perverseness," she observes), terrorizes England and decrees widespread political murder in order to protect her. Ultimately, to Anne's horror, this once passionate husband turns on her and has her executed as well.
Threads, a reincarnation fantasy, opens with Anne's execution. Her fury at her husband s betrayal has enough momentum to survive centuries, but in Threads she learns that she has been assigned a hard task: she must review their history together through a number of past lives, and find it within herself to forgive him. This may prove difficult and take some time. The husband in question is Henry Tudor, the notorious Henry VIII. The narrator is the stubborn, volatile Anne Boleyn, who is not at all inclined to forgive.
It is a very unusual love story.
William Faulkner Competition finalist for best novel.

Threads [NON-USA FORMAT, PAL, Reg.2&4 Import - Great Britain]

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2.4 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: English ( Mono ), English ( Subtitles ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, SYNOPSIS: Originally produced by the BBC, Threads is a shattering speculative tale the onset of World War III, and the horrors of the post-apocalyptic society that struggles for survival. The film takes place in the ruins of Sheffield, a British working class town. Despite the fact that the world seems to be falling apart all around them, a young couple (Karen Meagher, Reece Meagher) intend to go ahead with their upcoming wedding. As the date draws near, however, simmering international tensions soon erupt into global thermonuclear war. In the devestation that follows, the apocalyptic erosion of society sends mankind hurtling back hundreds of years into an age where famine, strife, pestilence, and death wash over the land like an unrelenting flood of venomous bile. The central theme of the film seems to be that the adage "Life Goes On" just isn't good enough in a world doomed to a slow death by radiation. Without resorting to shock or sensationalism, this one makes The Day After and Testament look like kids' stuff. Though not picked up by any of the major American networks, Threads was widely distributed in the US through the auspices of cable mogul Ted Turner. SCREENED/AWARDED AT: BAFTA Awards, ...Threads

noreen's writing

noreen's writing

I hear adults talking about the end of the semester blow out coming soon. I can't wait for the raunchy Cleveland Low Life winter parties. PBR and salt stained jeans.

I saw real people today. At any given moment - still - an album cover. I belong here, I feel comfortable here, inside myself. Cigarette in yr ear. My ear gill spores being compressed.

It's so picture perfect and all the characters are characters who live in homes.

Maureen's songs play tribute... All the lovin. Swaying inside and down through the tunnel of my being.
Twisting through Ben. Transcend self and become part of something larger.
Can't be objective tonight? Can't be objective ever!
"I'm with her"

Represent... Drinkin cold beer in winter time is heinous, only; it doesn't feel cold for long. Sway inside LIVING music.

Here's to the Cleveland Junkie:
To an entire generation of kids who ate so many mushrooms they can't concentrate on anything productive by anyone else's standards -
only LOVE.
Here's to the incestuous circle of high school friends, graduates.
To the old man who wants the teenage girl to sit on his face.
Here's to those kids dancing so hectically to the mellow music that it would make any stiff-jointed adult nauseous.
To fitting u-locks in yr back pants pocket.
Here's to Sachsenheim and Davis' fresh avocados and cilantro in the middle of winter in the middle of the rust belt... (oh globalization!)

Here's to creativiity .
To the manifestations of your subconscious - that we rediscover (dusty on the basement floor) and flip through with our majestic, nothing fingers.
To the girl who only feels distant enough from her consciousness to read her words out loud when she's stoned. But she's practicing and I'm practicing (the affection and the smiles and the rubbing of arms - surrounded by tulip petals.)

Here's to the better half (of the better half) of intoxicated time: when we forget about the guilt and the obligation and nothing IS a bad idea.
Stepping outside to the abandoned night time ghost streets with ice silently falling and the orange haze street lights.
Playing a theremin. Watching Picasso make his layers.
Here's to old boyfriends, who are 1/2 a velvet underground album cover and 1/2 a cartoon turtle.
Here's to ganja making us buy 3 gallons of powdered electric lemonade.
Cellos to slide fingers down,
memories to destroy.

Spiralling down the vortex of music and installing new cogs in yr brain.

I'm fucked up when I'm not and I'm not when I am.
So, here:
is to discovering how to sit inside of music. Here's to fucking yr pursuits and feeling ok about it.
To integrating maternal love with that forced time spent with people your own age.
Drunken, head-phoned, night-time bike riding... watering yr roots.
To seeing lumps of nouns and neurons and mnemonics float through space.
To arriving at the redwoods, but more for the hoping and the planning and the dreaming.
Here's to forgetting the sober, dry truth and living what you want every now and then.
Here:
is to the surreal, granular movement in the trees
(which are my dresser)
and to the present, time-lapse growth of jades.
Here's to the empathy and
to the day you cried because you didn't mean to decapitate the dandelion!

Here's to the family that can take seriously: YR REPENTANCE.

I'm So Not Happy

I'm So Not Happy

Yesterday - I pulled the bike out from the cupboard to find I had a flat. It was cake day at work so I though I'd put in a new tube, and get to work quickly. I'll fix the old one at lunch time, so stuffed it in my bag. My track pump was playing up; hurling it down the hallway and swearing at it didn't help. I use my hand pump which is like hard work.
Half way to work I hear this funny noise, No one behind me, no one in front of me, then I realise it was my rear wheel. I'm ridding on a flat - sudden decompression. Luckily I have the old tube, so I walked to the top of the hill and fix the old puncture on a park bench outside a pub.

This morning it's like groundhog day. I pull the bike out the cupboard to find the back tire flat again. Again the nozzle has been sheared. How has this happened? I got all the way home on it. It some how did this over night.

My friend Reba commutes by bike from near my house. It is surprising how infrequently I see her. She is quite a fast rider, especially considering recent surgeries to her back and knee. She's an experienced cyclist with one character flaw. She doesn't know how to change a flat tire! I showed her how today. I hope she bought a pump and tube on the ride home.

summaryday5

summaryday5

Today was a harder day to keep working due to the humidity, bugs, and disappointing polishing wheel which made a TOTAL mess of the bike after I finished with the clutch/crank covers.

That really set me back, seeing the bike covered in black polish specs... really felt like I had taken two steps forward and ten steps back, the ENTIRE bike was covered. Somehow, even on the OTHER side of the bike there was specs covering it. Rubbing with a clothe only smudged everything.. the bike looked like ass.

I'm glad the other cars weren't nearby at the time, or I would've gone ballistic having to clean all of them. I ended up cleaning and waxing all the painted metals and plastics... it looks better now, but it was frustrating having my first real 'set back'.

Work completed:
- Clutch cover polish = DONE
- Crank cover polish = DONE
- Rear rim lip polish = DONE
- Front rim lip polish = DONE

Things started
- Sanding/testing polish and pulse generator cover, will hopefully finish that off this weekend
- More polish testing on the valve cover.. it's looking good, but will require a lot more work to finish. Will look into removing the cover this weekend so I can finish it without having to leave the bike valve coverless overnight.
- Looked at the exhaust pipes... they're rougher than I remember, and the left one has a bit of rash from my drop last year. Replacements are hard to come by, atleast in decent condition. I know Cobra has the F1 slip ons, but they run over $200 USD and don't really appeal to me.

I really want high mounts, I think it'd toughen up the already stout rear end. The header-exhaust piping is 4-2-1, so I'd probably still stick to two cans. The way I've envisioned it is to remove the rear pegs/mounts and just run the piping up so the cans run at a parallel angle with the tail section. Welding is something I'd like to learn, but I'm not sure if a full exhaust system is something a beginner should try... I'll look into how to refinish pipes, I have a feeling that'd be the best bet at this point.

The more I work on the bike, the more I want to have it on the street next season. I know I've planned on getting something with smaller displacement as a street-runner, but after all this work I'm putting in, it almost feels weird to not get to appreciate it on the street. I'll get some quotes for insurance, and I guess we'll go from there. I still want a new bike... maybe I'll insure both? hah.. let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Plans for the weekend:
- Finish pulse generator cover
- Look into valve cover polishing
- Look into refinishing pipes from header back
- Check clutch to see wtf is going on, will probably bleed the lines and go from there
- Check all the wiring, see if anything past the master fuse to the solenoid was affected in the burn out. All the fuses are good, so I guess only the wires could be something at fault. I hope my battery didn't change polarity due to my lack of maintenance.

I'm starting to get these crazy ideas... I think once I have the carbs tuned I'll have the bike as a rolling chassis as I spruce up the frame and graphics. I'm pretty set on not going with a front fairing (bikini or otherwise).. it doesn't seem right, this bike is a retro hotrod, it needs to be treated as such. I think dual lamps (ala Triumph Speed Triple) should give me enough space to hide the wiring and still use the stock tach.. we'll see, the street fighter fairing I have now should fetch a decent amount of coin on eBay.

I could easily put the money I've set aside for a new bike (about 5k) towards the Nighthawk.. get a stroker kit, ohlins all round, new OEM graphics, new cluster, tires, and still have enough money for me to build a custom highmount setup..... (EDIT: After some thought, and staring at this photo, dual shorty pipes would look hella gangster and I'd be able to keep my rear pegs. Hot!! ). Or I can just get a used GSXR1000. Hmm.

Almost midnight, should probably get to bed. DEFLUV OUT! (hahaha, lame)

IMG 0226

IMG 0226

This was a Dawes 531 (or was it 501? I can't remember) 12 speed racing bike with drop bars. According to the seller it was a time trial bike - seeing how short it is, I'm inclined to agree.

I bought it off eBay in 2006 when I was very naive, quite skint, and desperate for a road bike. Paid about ?95 including postage - various people said that it was certainly not worth that - especially due to the dent in the toptube(!). I have to agree. I should have bought a better bike for less money from my local bike shop, but what can I say -- I was desperate!

It had a nice (but very girly) purple & white paint job which i was so embarassed about that I quickly painted it with blue house interior paint.... that looked so bad that I covered it all up with gaffer tape. About a year later, I wanted to try and revive the bike, so I tried to remove the gaffer tape. However, the paint underneath is matt, so the glue stuck really good. It's a shame really because I only rode this bike for a few months. Would have been nice to respray it black and get some red, yellow and green parts for it - turn it into a 'rasta bike'....

I removed the derailleurs, cranks, bottom bracket and chain, the rear brake and the brake levers, and cut the bars. The cranks are old bent ones off my work bike. Both of the original wheels got damaged and have been replaced. The rear wheel has been re-dished and the axle has been re-spaced, so it's now 120mm rather than 130. However... the chainline at the rear is too small (where a fixed sprocket would sit, is about 1cm too far towards the centre of the bike). A thinner axle cone locknut will help sort that out, and perhaps a shorter cone too.

EROS 1998 Bomb Shelter

EROS 1998 Bomb Shelter

Painted in 1998, Quick Freestyle, at the Bomb Shelter wall in Minneapolis. One of those real hot weather days that everyone else wanted to go to the beach or chill out at in their air conditioned home. Instead of doing that, I decided to go get my tan on and rock a piece. I grabbed some ill ass American Accents and Rusto colors as well as my Krylon Ultra Flat Black and headed out. At this time I was going over a lot of people and expected to be rolled on, once or twice by writers at the wall. Fortunately, it never happened. I always was prepared though. Keeping a little something nice & handy for any would be suckers, trying to start some shit. One time when I was out at this wall, painting by myself in one area but with Logik painting in another area, I saw this group of 13-15 year olds on the tracks with their Bmx's. I didn't pay it no mind at first and just kept doing my thing. I knew that they were up to something though, just by how sneaky they were acting and shit. So, I decided to keep my eye on them and kept turning around slightly to see what was up out of the corner of my eye. I just had one of those gut feelings that something was about to happen. All of a sudden I noticed that the large part of the group started to roll out and they began to yell something. I couldn't make out what they were saying and when I turned around, I saw this 14-15 year old black kid pointing a gun in my direction. I don't know why but I just kind of froze for a second then turned back around towards the wall slowly when he started to buck shots at the wall. They hit about 10 feet above my head and I quicky ducked down and behind a small bush. I was in shock. I couldn't believe this little fucker. He jumped on his bike after poppin' off about 3 caps and rode off. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't trying to shoot me, just act tough in front of his friends. I thought about running to my vehicle and tracking him down but quickly dismissed that when I realized, what was I going to do with him after I caught him. I pretty much just packed my shit up, told Logik what had just happened and headed home for the day. That was in the middle to the end of the summer of 1998 and pretty much one of the last times I painted that wall. I figured that it was time to look elsewhere for spots. If you can't burn on a wall without being shot at by some ignorant little fuckers, then it was time to move on.

an amazing art form i recently learned using spray paint
this can be done in three minutes with three cans of spray paint, a bowl, a bottle cap, and a magazine page.

spray your red and set the magazine page on it, lift for texture, place a bowl over it, spray your paper black and blue and platter white on by spraying and flicking your gloved fingers. for a commet, set the nozzle of the can upside down on the paper and press the can down.

Inspired to compete
Valley woman entering triathlon to honor officer killed in accident
By Mary Manning
LAS VEGAS SUN

WEEKEND EDITION

August 20-21, 2005

Melissa Lardomita plans to endure as much as she can to try to help a family that has to endure more than any family should.

Lardomita, a Metro Police corrections officer, is training for a triathlon Nov. 13 in Southern Nevada to honor and raise funds for the family of a fallen colleague.

On May 29, on his last day of training before becoming a police officer, 26-year-old Freddy Hernandez headed home on his Harley-Davidson, which was a graduation gift from his wife. Blocks away from his home, Hernandez was killed when he struck the rear of a tanker truck turning right off Vegas Valley Drive into a water treatment plant, police said.

Lardomita has set a goal of raising $25,000 for Hernandez Family Contribution Fund when she participates in the Nevada Silverman Full Distance Triathlon this fall.

"I want to raise this money for pre-paid college tuition for his kids and to help her pay the bills," Lardomita said.

Hernandez left two children, 6-year-old son Angel and 1-year-old daughter Laura behind as well as his wife, Lizette, said Lardomita, who befriended Lizette.

"I didn't want him to ride, but oh, my God, he loved them," Lizette Hernandez said of her husband's attraction to motorcycles.

When he died, Hernandez had been within two weeks of having life insurance coverage in place.

"That was our next step," said his widow, "especially with him riding a motorcycle."

Metro has offered support, adopting her like a family member and helping her recover through the Police Protective Association, Hernandez said through her tears.

"I've worked since I was 14 and now it's more important than ever for the kids," Lizette said of her job at Camden Property Management.

"He and I were planning our future together, and he always had a lot of goals," she said.

Hernandez had served in the Marine Corps before attending the Metro Police academy.

"Becoming a policeman was his dream," Lizette Hernandez said, describing how they fell in live and were sweethearts at Valley High School. They had been married almost seven years.

After her husband died, Lizette said, she met Lardomita and was impressed with her determination.

"She calls me all the time," Hernandez said.

Participating in a full distance triathlon event has been Lardomita's dream.

Lardomita is the daughter of a Hawaiian Ironman triathlete, who conquered the island's event 23 years ago, followed by a Cape Cod, Mass., triathlon a year later for another officer.

Her father, Carl Thomas, a retired police officer in Windsor, Conn., inspired her to become a police officer and a triathlete.

"Dad has always been athletic," she said.

"It's because as long as I can remember I have always looked up to my dad," Lardomita said.

The entire town of Windsor came to the airport after Thomas completed his first triathlon, she said.

Thomas was ready to stop participating in triathlons after Hawaii until he heard of an officer killed in the line of duty in East Hartford, Conn.

"He said to me, 'He can't go to work every day to support his family. I can do another triathlon,' " Lardomita said.

When she told her father about trying to raise $25,000 for the Hernandez family, she was surprised to learn that he had raised the same amount in the 1983 Cape Cod triathlon.

Lardomita said she'll train six hours a day for 16 weeks in preparation for the triathlon.

She got her first sponsor, Tony's Pizza II, located at the corner of Horizon Ridge and College Drive in Henderson, last week.

The Nevada Silverman Full Distance Triathlon is in its inaugural year, making history by celebrating the 100-year birthday of Las Vegas.

Lardomita will attempt to complete a 2.4-mile swim in Lake Mead that begins and ends in Hemenway Harbor, a 112-mile bike course around the lake and through Henderson and a 26.2-mile run through Henderson.

The Nevada Silverman Triathlon is believed to be the longest, most difficult single day event for individual athletes to ever take place in Nevada, said Trish Gumina, a spokeswoman for the event.

A portion of the event's proceeds will benefit Project Sunshine, a nonprofit organization that provides free programs and services to children with life-threatening illnesses.

Despite training long hours, Lardomita said she still puts her children first.

"No. 1, I'm a mom," she said. "With the training, I have to take a step back and make sure my kids are No. 1."

Eleven-year-old daughter Taylor, 8-year-old daughter Mia and 3-year-old son Isaiah enjoy watching mom ride the stationary bicycle in the backyard of their Green Valley home and spending summer days with her before she goes

Back around 1996 a bunch of friends were really on a single-speed kick. About a year later I had this frame built by a friend at Rocky Mountain. The tubeset was from a 97 Vertex T.O. if I recall correctly, drop-outs were custom too and the serial number was/is "Andrewski". I ended up racing it in a couple of the 12-hour team classics in Campbell River and then used it on the Shore a few times.

I think it's time to bring it out of retirement! Commuting SS here I come!

I've been using this for almost a full year now. I've biked almost every day this winter in Ottawa. It's still working very well. I have had 2 shimano hubs die from the cold (I'm too lazy to winterize them), but the tensioner has continued to work through all the snow/ice/slush/rain and SALT! Speaking of which, I will be back on the bike in 7 hrs, I'd better get some sleep!

You can have access quickly to point of view and get to place of difficult access. Now a step further for me:
Using a gps watch you can review your ride on google earth or MS live and the exact location from where you took a picture. Another way to find the location is to synchonize time between the watch and the camera.

I geotagged this picture using a gps watch garmin 305 getting the coordinates from the gpx files (previously exported with sportTracks) opened with notepad.
you can click on the map to see the place and look at the next two satellites screenshots

Stopping A Fixed Gear Bike

stopping a fixed gear bike

    fixed gear
  • a cog attached to a hub without a freewheel; it always turns with the wheel---no coasting

  • A fixed-gear bicycle (or fixed-wheel bicycle, commonly known in the USA as a fixie) is a bicycle that has no freewheel, meaning it cannot coast — the pedals are always in motion when the bicycle is moving.

  • A direct drive system, used on track bikes, in which the chain ring and rear cog are linked, so that the pedals turn constantly while the bicycle is moving, and coasting isn't possible.

    stopping
  • (of an event, action, or process) Come to an end; cease to happen

  • fillet: fastener consisting of a narrow strip of welded metal used to join steel members

  • (stop) the event of something ending; "it came to a stop at the bottom of the hill"

  • Abandon a specified practice or habit

  • Cease to perform a specified action or have a specified experience

  • the kind of playing that involves pressing the fingers on the strings of a stringed instrument to control the pitch; "the violinist's stopping was excellent"

    bike
  • motorcycle: a motor vehicle with two wheels and a strong frame

  • bicycle: a wheeled vehicle that has two wheels and is moved by foot pedals

  • bicycle: ride a bicycle

  • A bicycle or motorcycle

A bicycle messenger falls in love with a fellow-messenger who has become involved with a drug-dealer.
Genre: Feature Film-Action/Adventure
Rating: PG
Release Date: 7-DEC-2004
Media Type: DVD

A hotshot stockbroker bets it all--and loses it all--in one day, effectively ruining all his customers while ending his career. So, naturally, he turns to that old stockbroker standby: he becomes a bicycle messenger. Kevin Bacon may have made this film simply to extend the strands of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game; it's hard to imagine any other reason. Otherwise, this mid-'80s film stands as yet another example of a movie influenced by MTV without understanding what MTV does. Eventually, Bacon leads the exploited masses of messengers in an uprising against unfair labor practices by the evil bosses. There's an original concept. Notable as yet another film to give a role to the dazzlingly untalented Jami Gertz. --Marshall Fine

Fixed Gear

Fixed Gear

I don't put cards in my spokes. I follow traffic laws. I don't do tricks. I've even started wearing a helmet for the first time in my life.

A few years back I was fixing a messed up deraileur and decided I didn't like having things that brake easily on my bike. I turned my bike into a single speed. I liked it a lot but I still wasn't satisfied.

I saw a messenger riding by and noticed he didn't even have brakes. I loved how his bike looked and the idea of having even less on my bike. I didn't even know it was called fixed gear. When I went home I got online and searched the internet until I found Sheldon Brown's guide to fixed gear bicycles. That was around 2002 I think.

I soon fixed my bike and loved it. At the time, when I was stopped at traffic lights people in cars would lean out their window and ask me about my bike.
"You're bike looks sweet, but you've got no brakes. How do you stop?" Ordering this one, the UPS driver said "You're one of those fixie guys, huh? I keep trying to get my son to put a brake on his." Don't suppose I'll have to explain it anymore.

I didn't have brakes until I came back from Korea and my dad told me someone on a fixed gear got a ticket for not having one. From Korea I never even realized how popular (and hated) fixed gear had gotten.

I have two now.

I really think it's great that so many people love fixed gear bikes, as long as they aren't being total asses. Riding a bike isn't like your favorite underground band - it's better for you, as a cyclists, to have as many other people enjoy cycling as possible. I saw someone compair fixed bikes to SUVs the other day- actually fixed bicycles are the opposite of SUVs. More bikes = less pollution/less traffic/more aware drivers.

Longbownsnyper took my photo with my camera. I had to have a camera around my neck, so I used his Pentax Spotmatic as a prop. We were touring the Indiana Dunes from Michigan City to Portage, IN on our fixed gear bikes. Here, we are at Portage Lake Front Park. The Chicago Skyline is in the distance and the wonderfully designed park pavilion in the midground. We each had totally manual 35mm cameras with 50 mm lenses and no light meters. The combination of fixed gear bikes and manual film cameras made for a fine Vintage day.

Photographed on Kodak Tri-X 400 film using a Nikon F with a Yellow Wratten 8 filter and polarizer on a Nikkor 50mm f/2 lens. Exposure was by Sunny 16 -2 stops to account for the filters. The camera was at f/5.6 for this shot for better depth of field control.

Lower back pain, hip problems, sciatica, and bad knees
Carpal tunnel syndrome and even some forms of arthritis

Shin splints, varicose veins, sprained or weak ankles, and many foot ailments
Bursitis, tendinitis, and rotator cuff problems
Plus special preventive programs for maintaining health through the entire body.
With this book in hand, you're on your way to regaining the greatest gift of all: a pain-free body! With the help of Pete Egoscue's revolutionary program of quick stretches and strength-building exercises, you can cure chronic pain, and do it naturally.

Pete Egoscue has shown thousands of individuals, corporations, schools, and championship sports teams how to eliminate pain without investing in expensive ergonomic devices or resorting to surgery or drug therapies. His groundbreaking book, with nearly 50,000 hardcover copies sold, shows readers how to:

Relieve lower back pain
Improve hip problems, sciatica, and bad knees
Relieve migraines and other headaches, stiff neck, fatigue, sinus problems, vertigo, and TMJ
Relieve painful problems, like carpal tunnel syndrome, often misdiagnosed as arthritis
Prevent injuries and maintain health through stretching programs for the entire body
Filled with easy instructions, photos, and line illustrations throughout, this book will provide quick, effective pain relief.

Pete Egoscue learned a lot about pain when, as a Marine officer, he was wounded in Vietnam. He segued from patient to physical therapist, and now runs a famous clinic in San Diego, where he claims he's helped 95 percent of his patients cure chronic pain--including Jack Nicklaus and Charles Barkley, whose athletic careers he helped prolong. At the heart of his program are stretches and motion exercises to restore proper function to muscles and joints. His methods are often surprising and counterintuitive. For example, for foot pain, he suggests a series of hip exercises. In fact, this is one of the most startling books you'll read about the human organism. Egoscue has strong opinions about how modern life is changing the way our bodies function, reducing the tasks we must perform and thus reducing the functional range of motion of our muscles and joints. Fortunately, he offers movement exercises to restore what nature meant us to have.
