I got these cute squeaky miniature textured dog balls for Desi to chase from the pet store, of course, with ulterior motives of snapping a pic of them. I loved their texture. But darn it if Desi didn't gouge a hole in one within 3 minutes! Stupid plastic toys! I'm returning the lot of them the next time I go back! At least I got a pic out of the deal! Hmph! :o)

Hearing officer said the actions of Stacey Champion, 39, of Minneapolis, were "disgraceful." The dog may be put up for adoption as early as next week.

The puppy that almost ended up in the U.S. mail will stay at an animal shelter for at least another week after an administrative hearing officer ruled Monday that it should not be returned to its owner.

On Monday, city administrative hearing officer Fabian Hoffner ruled against returning the dog to owner Stacey Champion, 39, of Minneapolis, calling what she did "disgraceful."

The 4-month-old Schnauzer-poodle mix was nearly sent in a cardboard box to Georgia last month before it was intercepted by alarmed postal workers. Postal authorities said it almost certainly would have suffocated or died of exposure in the unpressurized belly of a cargo plane.

Champion admitted at the hearing that she put Guess in a box without food on Jan. 25, saying it was supposed to be a birthday gift for her son in Atlanta.

Because delivery was halted, Champion said, "I was deprived of my son not receiving his gift for his birthday. I felt really, really bad as a mom."

The case was so unusual that Postal Service employees weren't sure at first if the shipment was illegal, according to Postal Inspector Jesse Swanson. He said at Monday's hearing that on the day the dog was discovered, he got a call from the Loring Post Office station manager asking if Postal Service rules prohibited the mailing of puppies. He had to check the rules himself before learning that it was not permissible

Suspicions about the shipment first arose when employees at the Loring Station post office in downtown Minneapolis saw the box move on its own and heard breathing inside. Champion had told clerks that the box contained a toy robot, according to Swanson.

Postal clerks then called Swanson and held a phone up to the box. "I could hear panting," he recalled. Concerned that the panting was getting "slower and less frequent," Swanson allowed the box to be opened.

The Postal Service will ship some live animals such as bees, certain small and harmless cold-blooded animals, chicks and ducklings. But sending live dogs and cats through the mail is not allowed.

During Monday's hearing, Champion told Hoffner, "I did my best with the procedures and everything," adding that she didn't see any signs at the post office indicating what could or could not be shipped. She said the box had air holes and held water bottles.

Postal officials said that the box's air holes were covered by packing tape and that it did not contain water bottles.

At the end of Monday's hearing, Hoffner zeroed in on Champion as she gave halting, partial answers to his questions.

"Why did you say it was a toy robot?" he asked.

"Because the lady, she just kept throwing the box around, kept throwing the box around, so I just told her it was a toy robot," Champion said.

"The fact that you didn't tell her the truth must have meant that you didn't want her to know," Hoffner said.

"Yes, I didn't want her to know," Champion said.

Many Want to Adopt Puppy.

Surrounded by news cameras and reporters, Champion left City Hall and declined to comment on her defeat.

The dog, which has been housed at the Minneapolis Animal Care and Control shelter since its discovery, is still owned by Champion but now moves closer to adoption, perhaps as soon as next week.

Animal control manager Daniel Niziolek said Champion will be asked to post a bond to pay for Guess' care at the shelter from now until Feb. 28, the date of Champion's Hennepin County District Court hearing on two misdemeanor animal cruelty charges the city filed against her for her attempt to mail Guess.

If she doesn't post the bond within five days of it being requested, she'll lose ownership of the puppy, making it available for adoption.

If she posts the bond, Guess' ultimate ownership will hinge on the result of the animal cruelty charges.

In the meantime, "Guess is doing well," Sgt. Angela Dodge, who has been handling the case for the Police Department, said Monday afternoon. "Despite the trauma he endured, he appears to be a healthy and happy puppy who likes to play and receive attention from staff."

Dodge said the city has been receiving "several inquiries each day" from citizens interested in adopting the puppy.

Anyone wishing to adopt from the city shelter must appear there in person. If more than one person wants an animal, shelter staff hold a lottery. If Guess does go up for adoption, Niziolek said, he will notify the media first to give interested people time to plan accordingly.

During the ceremony Michael and Christine's 5 month old baby boy kept looking intently at me. Christine claimed it was because he like girls, Michael noted the same, especially Asian women (i.e. when they travel together on the subway). I tooted that it was probably because their baby thought that those Asian women were his mommy (to which Christine said something about the mammary glands. Eeeks!).

Anyway, after the ceremony I notice it wasn't as much me, as it was my CAMERA that baby was staring at! When he later saw Lisa's (I'm so embarassed if I got her name mixed up) camera (so much more impressive than my P&S) his big eyes opened wider and he stared so intently. You should have seen his little hands! One was holding on to the other in attempts to hold back from temptation. I asked Lisa to hold out the camera to the little guy to see if my theory was correct, but by the time I was able to capture the shot, he already got out of that guilty look and was ready to grasp a hold of the "toy." What a cleaver little fellow, he knows what gadgets to go for. Mommy and daddy will have to be careful about the high end/high tech gear this little guy will be asking for in a few years. :O

Mui-chan and these three, can you imagine the photo opportunities? XD Poor little boy, I'd better make sure to prepare a hideaway for him, with proper toys and gadgets, safely out of reach from those pesky girls. ;) Clearly not amused!

And yes, I was not going to get a Lati, being more concerned about the posability of the tinies than of the cuteness of the doll - but as a Belle owner, who am I to resist that pout?

Joseph Colton was the '94 Mail-In in honor of the 30th Anniversy of the GI Joe brand. The headsculpt on this figure is a brilliant reproduction of the vintage 12 inch Joe head right down to the scar. Also of note is the right-hand trigger finger.
Unfortunately his original rifle was ill-fitting for the style of this figure so I've equiped him with accessories better fitting of the Classic 1960's toy.

New Star Wars

Occasionally star Wars still interests me though I often can't find the figures I want.

The other weekend I found at least three I was really interested in. Grevous is totally awesome though he could use real elbows.

I have this Fett mold already i think, but it's still solid. The colors could be more brilliant to help make it look more cartoonish.

Starkiller Hero aka "Girl Luke" is part of the McQuarrie series. I'm not trying to get all of these but there are many I'm interested in. So far I've got Boba Fett and the Stormtrooper. Han Solo is one I want but I'm thinking I may pass on Vader.

I believe there are also a few exclusives like the droids and Yoda/ Obi Wan plus Chewbacca, none of which I particularly want.

Star Wars Republic Comic Pack

I don't get too many Star Wars figures these days but I've seen this set twice now and it's absolutely beautiful in package. Trust me, this crap picture does it no justice. It's a shame I'm not a MISP collector. I did open it carefully to be saved.

The paint apps on these comic packs are exceptionally well done compared to main line figures and considering the two pack costs less than two single figures it makes me wish all of the Star Wars figures looked this nice.

Srsly, though. I find it difficult to get any privacy in my home. Someone is always around. Even in the bathroom, and I don't only mean when I'm showering. With 2 boys, aged 4 and 35, and a very needy kitteh (whom I adore) in the house, it seems they *always* need me for something. I'll be taking a much needed shower when one of them will come in to ask me where something is...Owen for some toy, or specific marker and the Hubster for a pair of socks one of his technological devices. Oscar just sits at the shower door meowing me to death because he wants me to turn the bathroom sink faucet on for him.

Um, hello? I'm in the shower. I don't keep track of all of your things, I barely know where *my* things are at any given time. Use your eyes, I say. I need to shave my legs.

Strawberry Shortcake

The original design of Strawberry Shortcake and her cat, Custard was done in 1977 by Muriel Fahrion during her time as a greeting card illustrator at American Greetings' Juvenile & Humorous card department. After the idea was presented to Bernie Loomis of General Mills and became a licensing entity, Fahrion designed a subsequent thirty-two characters for Those Characters From Cleveland (American Greetings' toy & licensing design division).

Cindy Moyer Patton and Janet Jones designed the other later characters of the classic Strawberry Shortcake line. Lyn Edwards was the editor of the line and along with brainstorm group developed the personality profiles and the story line and philosophy. The first doll was a rag doll directed by Muriel Fahrion and created by Susan Trentel, Fahrion's sister.

The Strawberry Shortcake line of characters each had their own fruity or dessert-themed name with clothing to match, and they each had a dessert- or fruit-named pet. Like the Strawberry Shortcake doll, all the other characters' dolls had hair scented to match their dessert theme. The characters lived and played in a magical world known as Strawberryland.

You are never too old for toys right? At the antique store today I found this model of a red Ford, and although my truck is only an F-150, it sure looks like mine.

And the difficulty level is the lowest possible. I have memories of those plastic model kits when I was a kid- the photo on the cover looked stunning, and it was not until in it that you realize it has to be spray painted and skillfully assembled with knife and not drippy glue skills to even get it close to looking like the cover picture.
