Rear brake calipers on
When I first trial fitted the calipers a few days ago the discs were binding on them on both sides of the car. It made me wonder if the discs were the wrong thickness. I also noticed that the O/S hub was wobbling a bit at which point my heart sank as I thought the new bearing was damaged. After sleeping on it I thought I'd give winding the hubs in a bit further a go and I found another 3mm or so on both sides and no more wobbles. The calipers now fit well too. I suspect they'd settled a bit and were ready to take a little more tightening. Before I fit the drive shafts I'll give it another go just to be sure their as tight as they can go.
When spinning the discs I did notice some run out relative to the calipers. I hope this is because they're currently only held on by the screw and not the full wheel bolt set

B.M.W R1200GS Adventure
Left hand bar end weight which on the very early GS Adventure models like mine is a tad longer than the latter ones
If you make your own just copy from originals its quite easy and i only have a small lathe just one of those cheap Machine Mart ones but its good enough for my little tinkering jobs
i was told by my local BMW dealers that since the "Handguard Upgrade" ? all GS & GSA models now use the shorter 300g weights on the left and right !
So if your like me still running old handguards that have never failed ? "How do handguards fail" ? anyhow if you still run the old ones longer one to left shorter to right :)
Joy Pulley Wheels
My one successful roommate experience (aside from moving in with Dan, of course) was the year I lived with my friend Donna. We were both newly out of college, employed but broke, and always looking for cheap ways to have fun. Our friendship was originally forged by a series of road trips back home from school, and we kept up that tradition while we were roommates.
This shot is from one of those days, when we got in the car with a vague destination in New Hampshire (or maybe Eastern Vermont) and just stopped when the fancy struck us. One of our finds was a trainyard full of abandoned cars, and this equipment was on the ground nearby.

For any non 'gear-heads' ... the throttle is what opens up to let air in when you step on the gas pedal (accelerate). The more you push, the wider the throttle opens - letting more air into the engine to make it go faster...vrooom! Okay, I'm not as gear-headed as this may make me appear. I only happen upon this knowledge through association with my husband who I imagine is one of the biggest engine buffs out there.

Twister-Paksitan vs Australia 3rd ODI Super Challenge series GABBA Brisbane 2002
Pakistan were not at their best or their sharpest. There was a batting collapse in all three matches of the Super Challenge Series. Their fielding was at best patchy, and so was the bowling, more so in the first game. With Abdul Razzaq and Saqlain Mushtaq adding weight to their bank accounts by preferring to feature in county cricket than play for their country, it was not a full strength team either.
Furthermore, they had an elite and an Australian umpire to contend with too. At least three decisions went against them in the second game. The situation was even worse in the third, as the vast majority of verdicts quite inexplicably went against the visitors. So repetitive were the mistakes, regarding them all as cases of human error would require lots of imagination.
Yet the Pakistanis emerged victorious, beating the best team in the world quite convincingly in the third game to make it 2-1. So convincing was the win that with 31 overs still to go, the Aussies were down and out. Reduced to eight for 83, they didn't have a ghost of a chance. Before the last rites, they reached 165 but not without their highest scorer, all-rounder Shane Watson, benefiting from the umpires' largesse and two dropped chances. Ironically it was substitute Shoaib Malik and Younis Khan - otherwise the best of Pakistani fielders from the quartet that includes Imran Nazir and Shahid Afridi - who spilled the catches.
But it didn't matter. With the run rate spiralling up quickly, the Pakistanis were under no threat of losing the match and with it the series. Their grit had got them through in the second game, and in the series decider, despite some moments of madness especially while batting, they were all over Australia.
This series win is significant, in more ways than one. Pakistan have beaten indisputably the best team in the world, in an away series. They have done it in a manner, despite so many chinks in every department, that was quite impressive. Secondly, since the '99 World Cup final, the green shirts had lost all crunch games to Australia. Indeed, they had not just been defeated in those games - the 2000 World Series Cup finals and last year in the NatWest Trophy at Lord's - they were humbled and humiliated. It was not their skills that were in question, but their mental strength.
In the third, decisive match of the Challenge Series they handed the Aussies a dose of their own medicine. Needless to say, it wasn't very palatable for the hosts, but it should bury the bogey of Pakistanis lacking mental strength for quite some time to come. Especially if the doses are repeated in the three-nation one-day tournament and the Test series that Pakistan has to play against the Aussies later this year, though where these would be played, if at all, is a point of conjecture at the moment.
The best thing about the win, however, was the teamwork and the never-say-die spirit. They came from one match down, a bruising defeat that hurts the ego. In both the matches they won, Pakistan's wickets fell in a cluster. Yet Pakistan went on to win the second tie, though it went down to the wire, and post a highly competitive total in the third, and then bowled the Aussies out of the match well before the midway stage in the second innings.
While Younis Khan proved his tenacity and class once again at Melbourne, only one innings of substance was delivered by three of Pakistan's leading maestros - Inzamam-ul-Haq, Yousuf Youhana and Saeed Anwar. That said, in the context of the result of the series, Youhana's 65 off 85 deliveries was quite important, and he atoned for the two run outs he engineered to nearly complete Pakistan's collapse by doing a neat job on running out Adam Gilchrist.
Akram played a superb cameo, a 32-ball 49 which included two sixes off Glenn McGrath on successive deliveries in the penultimate over to take Pakistan soaring to 256. It was one of Akram's most memorable innings, and it reminded all of the 19-ball 33 which had decimated England in the '92 World Cup final as much as his two wickets in the middle of the innings then. And Akram's bowling too must have silenced quite a few doubters. He literally made the ball talk to set Pakistan on course to leveling the series in the second game, and got the first breakthrough in the third.
In both of Pakistan's victories, Shoaib Akhtar started skimming through the Aussie order once Akram and Younis were pulled out of the attack. Unarguably the best first change bowler in the world now, Shoaib's pace and accuracy was too hot to handle. Other than Jason Gillespie, four out of his five victims were top batsmen; three were either bowled or leg before. A testament to his precision. And the way he got Michael Bevan, shuffling back to freeze at the crease and guiding the ball to the 'keeper, reflects the awe he inspires even in the best batsmen.
Then, as if that trial by pace was not enough, there was Afridi wheeling away his fastish leg spin, enjoying the bounce off the wi

2009 Mercier Kilo TT
This is the Mercier Kilo as it came out of the box. I had to install some things to get it like this. The Decals do not come off with a credit card or a hairdryer. If you want one without the decals or the stock parts, get it from bikeisland.com. It's a good frame (double butted cromoly), better than something like a Pake.
If you plan on changing all the parts, get it as a frameset from bikeisland.com.
If you want a cheap bike that you can ride without any investment, get this one from bikesdirect.com
For slightly better parts, get the Kilo TT Pro from bikesdirect.com
For the best stock parts, get it as a KHS flite.
If you are changing all the parts and you don't just but it as a frameset, you are wasting money.
Stock Parts:
Chain - it's just a KMC Z chain 3/32. Keep it lubed and properly tensioned and it should be fine.
Wheels - They had to be trued. The guy below sai d the cones had to be loosened. He was right. The rear hub is made from soft aluminum and I expect the threads to eventually strip off.
Tires - fine so far, but I haven't ran over any glass either.
Cog/lockring - really soft. I pulled them off when I got the bike and threw some NJS stuff I had on it. The wrench I used to remove the lock ring deformed the metal.
Pedals - I had some spare Wellgos and I threw them on right away so I never rode with the stock ones.
Stem - Threw it on a bike I'm building with upright handle bars.
Handlebars - Ugly and feel cheap. I never used them because I was planning on using real track bars and a quill stem that I already had.
Seatpost - holds the seat up. It's plain.
Crank and chainring - they're fine.

Mattel Hot Wheels Don The Snake Prudhomme Plymouth Barracuda Funny Car
Just like the real funny car back in 1969 with the body up, Mattel Hot Wheels, Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, Barracuda Funny Car 1969 release date and Made in the USA. This is the original car that was given to me by a friend way back when without decals, SO as you can see I painted the side back then competition orange with testors enamel model car paint. I think it looks pretty cool, but probably ruins the value. I see poor examples with decals sell for over $300. The only problem besides the paint one of the front wheels comes off other than that it is mint. This is one of the first releases without the small inner bearing on the wheel then the axle, just a solid wheel and axle.

16/365: 1/16/09 - RENT
RENT is one of my all-time favorites. While I love the movie, it pales in comparison to the Broadway version. I wasn't lucky enough to see it on Broadway, but I did go to the Broadway Across America tour when it came through OKC. 7th row seats. It was incredible! The Broadway soundtrack is almost constantly in my CD player in the car, and has had the most plays on my iPod out of anything I own.

R. & W. Febry & Sons Ltd of Old Sodbury
Article Published in the Illustrated Bristol News 1967.
'From ‘Tin Lizzie’ to Rolls-Royce in two generations the story of R. and W. Febry and Sons Limited'
ONE MORNING IN 1921 a 17 year old Gloucestershire boy was given 10 minutes’ driving instruction on the road across a common near his home, and was then sent off at the wheel of a Ford ‘Tin Lizzy’ truck to deliver a load of coal.
It was a disastrous day — on the return journey the front tyre burst and the lorry ended on its side in a ditch. But the brief introduction to the new world of motor transport fired the imagination of the young man. Today, Mr. ‘Dick’ Febry, chairman and managing director of R. and W. Febry and Sons Ltd., of Sodbury, Gloucestershire, is head of a ?1 million transport business, the biggest private transport firm in the South and West of England and one of the biggest in Britain.
Febry Transport operates 150 heavy vehicles all over Britain and the value of the fleet alone is more than ?680 000. The firm works for many well known businesses, such as Imperial Smelting, Tunnel Cement, Newman Industries, Fisons, and Amalgamated Roadstone and the special-purpose vehicles in the Febry fleet include cement tankers each worth ?10,000.
Dick Febry’s father was head carter at Cross Hands Farm, Sodbury, and had about 15 men under him. His wage was 12/- per week and Mr. Febry remembers how his father used to take him with his five younger brothers and six sisters for their Sunday night walk to The Dog at Sodbury, where he would order a quart of beer and small glasses for the children.
Mr. Febry started work at 4 a.m. and the young Dick Febry used to rise at 5 a.m. to get the earthorses ready before going to school. After leaving school at 12 he was employed at Cross Hands Farm at 3/- per week, helping with the carting, and ploughing behind two huge horses. He took his lunch of bread-and-dripping to work in a red handkerchief and drank a bottle of cold tea with it. Mr. Febry’s first means of transport was a bicycle frame fitted with two pram wheels. Today it is a Rolls-Royce.
He worked for a number of local people as a driver before starting up on his own in 1929. His capital was ?100 and he obtained an ex-First World War Peerless chain-drive lorry for ?650, which he had to pay for in instalments over one year. He worked 22 hours a day sometimes in the first weeks doing local haulage jobs and paid for his lorry within six months.
At the end of his first year he bought a second lorry, a new Studebaker and the first and second drivers he employed, Mr. Alfie Boucher and Mr. Bert Seymour, are both still driving with Febry Transport. Mr. Febry’s five brothers have worked in the business at various times; and the man who taught him to drive on Sodbury Common, Mr. Frank Bees, is now the licensee of the George Hotel, Chipping Sodbury.
They drove together on that fateful journey in 1921 delivering coal to Marshfield police station. The lorry ended up twice in the ditch during the day, because on the outward journey, when Mr. Bees was driving, they turned over and had to manhandle the loose load of coal back onto the righted vehicle before they could go on.
Mr. Febry recalls that in those early days of motoring when pneumatic tyres were just coming in, a new tyre cost about 15 shillings, Today a new tyre for one of his giant vehicles can cost more than ?90. Those were the days too when the driver did all the unloading by hand on his own — and the loads might be as much as seven tons of tarred stone.
When the war broke out in 1939, Mr. Febry had 18 Leyland lorries, most of which were requisitioned by the Government. The post-war period has seen the greatest expansion of Febry Transport, despite nationalisation in 1948 and what Mr. Febry regards as the unfair terms of denationalisation later when firms who had lost their fleets for relatively small sums of money had to pay at the rate of ?200 a ton buying them back, to get their licences.
‘Despite these crises in the past I believe that business is harder and more worrying now than it has ever been’, says Mr. Febry. ‘All we are working for now is the Government and the men. You cannot leave a business any more, you have to be working at it all the time’.
He is still active in the business seven days a week from eight in the morning. The family directors in the business with him include his wife, his own son and daughter, Derek and Diana, and his brother, Mr. Bill Febry, his wife and their sons, Robin and Peter. The total payroll of Febrys is now more than 200, and the ‘Sodbury Queen’ motorcoach business forms part of the Febry operations.
The entire Febry lorry fleet returns to the Sodbury headquarters each weekend and all maintenance is carried out there. When drivers are out on long journeys during the week there is a standing arrangement for them to ring in every evening to receive their instructions for back-loading. The whole tone of Febry Transport is one of efficient organisation.

Making "Dim Sum" in Shanghai
From Wikipedia.
Dim sum is a Cantonese term for a type of Chinese meal that involves small individual portions of food, usually food is pushed around on carts by servers and served in a small steamer baskets or on small plates. The server stamps your card to mark your order. Going for dim sum is usually known in Cantonese as going to "drink tea".
Traditional dim sum includes various types of steamed buns such as cha siu baau, dumplings and rice noodle rolls (cheong fun), which contain a range of ingredients, including beef, chicken, pork, prawns and vegetarian options. Many dim sum restaurants also offer plates of steamed green vegetables, roasted meats, congee porridge and other soups. Dessert dim sum is also available and many places offer the customary egg tart. Having a meal in a Chinese teahouse or a dim sum restaurant is known as yum cha (yam cha, ??), literally "drinking tea", as tea is typically served with dim sum.
Dim sum can be cooked by steaming and frying, among other methods. The serving sizes are usually small and normally served as three or four pieces in one dish. It is customary to order family style, sharing dishes among all members of the dining party. Because of the small portions, people can try a wide variety of food.
Dim sum dishes can be ordered from a menu or sometimes the food is wheeled around on a trolley by servers. Traditionally, the cost of the meal is calculated based on the number, size, and sometimes color of the dishes left on the patron's table (more below). Some modern dim sum restaurants record the dishes on a bill at the table. Not only is this tidier, it also prevents patrons from cheating by concealing or stealing the plates. Servers in some restaurants use distinct stamps so that sales statistics for each server can be recorded.
